Hi,

I take the liberty of basing this post on a blog written by Richard North which reads as follows:

UK politics: a brighter future?

Richard North, 02/01/2015

“As for Ukip”, says David Cameron, writing for the Daily Telegraph, “all they can deliver is Ed Miliband into Downing Street“. He goes on to say:

A vote for Ukip is a vote to prop up a failing Labour government – a government that would refuse to give people a referendum on Europe and that would take us back to the days of open-door immigration, an out-of-control welfare budget and a something-for-nothing society …

Then up pops an oft-repeated promise: Labour’s Human Rights Act would be scrapped, and thence for emphasis, Mr Cameron again tells us that: “an in-out referendum on Europe [will be] delivered”.

Needless to say, there is no reason to trust that Mr Cameron will keep his promises. But then trust is not an issue. Our best judgement is that, if he again reneged on a promise of a referendum, the Conservative party would rebel, and he would quickly be deposed as a leader.

Furthermore, come the 2020 general election, with no referendum having been delivered, the Conservative Party would be unelectable. Mr Cameron would have wiped out any chance of a further Conservative government for the foreseeable future.

But then, if you want to quibble, is Mr Cameron’s statement any more or less credible than this from Mr Farage?

Ukip is no longer seen as the “protest vote”, but rather as an opportunity to look outside the Westminster bubble for real solutions, devised by real people, with real life experience. We will fight the upcoming elections believing that our potential is still underestimated, and that the balance of power is within our grasp.

If you believe that, frankly, you will believe anything. But, of the two, I’m more prepared to take Mr Cameron at his word – not because I trust him, but because he’s boxed himself into a corner, and has no realistic option other than to deliver, if he again becomes prime minister after this year’s general election.

That notwithstanding, sooner of later, we are going to have a referendum. And the better prepared we are to fight the campaign, the better our chances are of winning it. Thus, whether or not Mr Cameron delivers on his promise, we should still be preparing for a referendum campaign.

And, with even greater emphasis, that’s what we’re going to be doing on this blog.

and even more specifically in response to his comment on his Forum:

All too often, the eurosceptics offer what amount to “lies” (i.e., untruths), which means that we end up trading lie with lie. It would be helpful if we could isolate the truth and then spread it.

  • Hi,

    perhaps lie is a little strong, as Enoch Powell made clear in his speech in the HoC, the EU was telling the truth but it’s sales force, in the form of paid hirelings like MEPs, MPs, broadcasters & Civil Servants were all too willing to obfuscate the truth with spin.

    Currently we have Cameron promising a referendum IF the Tories are returned with a majority and offering to resign IF he then does not deliver a referendum – an easy out from his promise, based not on lies but on obfuscation.

    I note that there seems no clarity of such a promise from any other political leader of consequence and Cameron’s promise seems in isolation in that none of the front runners for his job should he stumble and fall has either endorsed his promise or promised an EU IN/OUT Referendum of any clarity. In fact none of the front runners for the governance of OUR Country would seem to wish to hold a fair, informed and balanced referendum – each feeding the mill with grit rather than grain!

    Alternatively we have the spin and obfuscation of Ukip who after 22 years of ‘claiming’ to wish to Leave_The_EU are milking the tax payers for all they are worth through the EU bribe system and delivering nothing – not even aresponsible, honourable, clear EU eXit & survival strategy, in fact no strategy or plan whatsoever after 22 years!

    Ukip’s devotion to populism without proper policy is so well a trodden path it is risible. Consider Adolf Hitler, Oswald Moseley, both of whom sought to blame outsiders and to thus sweep the gutters of politics choosing unsavoury allies and ill informed supporters over responsible researched policies of substance and gravitas and they like Nigel Farage were also pronounced man of the year, in 1938 & 1934 respectively.

    That The SNP, Plaid and the Greens are trolling the same pool dependent on ignorance for their support and transient achievements casts a sad light on the body politic, where Ukip’s good fortune has been enhanced by gathering in the support of BNP members, even their deposed leader Nick Griffin, and supporters now they have collapsed leaving Ukip as the most clearly racist party left with which to protest. Much as Hitler’s early battle was with the Communist Party in Bavaria, a battle he won by denouncing the Jews, Gypsies and disabled – just as Ukip do regarding Romanians, Bulgarians, Roma and other immigrants!

    The difficulty faced by those of us seeking to Leave_The_EU is that it is an immensely complex process and FUD can be all too easily used by those who have incrementally forced upon us the EU scam, with salami slicing of our fundamental human right of self determination and its obscene costs and down side risks.

    The EU has woven a complex quilt of regulation, by the use of a massive unelected bureaucracy that includes the Civil Servants of all its vassal states aided by their police, politicians and much of their military whilst the tax payers have been left unrepresented and poorly, led mostly by opportunists unwilling to put in the hard slog of research and fine tuning as they expend their energy and our cash seeking selection and election so as to feed on the gravy train they claim to reject!

    Indubitably FleXcit offers a way forward, even perhaps the way forward, but already it extends to some 370 pages, well researched as it is and clearly striving for joined up thinking, will enough people read it. More importantly will enough members of the electorate understand it or will it continue to be run away from by the LibLabUkipCon herd mentality?

    The LibLabUkipCon seem not to wish to lie but clearly they have no desire to tell the truth with clarity and integrity or we would have left the outmoded, obfuscating, self serving bureaucrats of the un democratic EU long ago, even assuming we had been duped into its clutches originally, as we unarguably were; then as now based on spin, unbalanced funding, corrupt publicity and FUD – little changes!

    We have a long and arduous road ahead to repatriate our democracy and salvage our right to self determination and justice. Without education of the electorate in at least some of the details of FleXcit our aim of EU eXit is likely to fail, as the EUroPhiles have no need to lie merely to obfuscate and employ FUD to rattle the ill informed into the ballot box with a ‘stay in’ vote cast in fear and ignorance.

    Ignorance that comes of never having had explained to them the clear benefits of Britain resuming its independent status as a Global trading nation, with a reputation of integrity and justice, though the latter has been much tarnished by what were indubitably lies that emanated from the likes of Edward Heath, Geoffrey Rippon and latterly the indisputable corruption of Blair & Brown’s 13 unlucky years of self enriching misgovernment and economic illiteracy.

    Whenever the referendum comes, as it surely will, the hard work starts here and now and must be relentless if we are to have any hope of restoring our democracy in any meaningful terms.

    How about starting out with the relatively simple task of explaining how the EU works by promoting Richard North’s excellent book ‘The Great Deception’; followeed by the simple fact that the EU makes very few laws, it merely rewrites the laws of The WTO, Codex, The WHO, The IMF, The UN and the like with the seal of approval and wording of The Enarcs and the imprimatur of the EU.

    It will be long, it will be hard and it may well be bloody but we must work for freedom rather than be distracted by the obfuscation of the so called wars to grant freedom to many who as a majority wish to live by other standards be they Islam or the centralised dictator committees of Russia or The EU.

    If we are ever again asked if we wish to be governed by a centralised foreign and very alien power and the choice is that or the open sea and restoration of our global trading role and spheres of influence in the Anglosphere and beyond clearly we should, as an island Nation of United Kingdoms choose the open sea with control of our own trade, our own laws and freedoms and our own borders.

    Sadly one is forced to ponder whether Nigel farage has merely adopted the role of being yet another Judas Goat!

    Greg_L-W.

Hi,

let us not forget that in selecting The Man Of The Year some years ago Adolf Hitler was selected due to his influence and the changes he was bringing about in the balance of power in Germany – There is little surprise that Nigel Farage was selected by The Times when they used the same criteria, though I believe that Alex Salmond outstripped Farage during 2014 though Farage’s damage to the likelihood of Britain Leaving The EU may well prove more damaging in the long run, all be it more insidious at this stage.

Ukip rising star and right-wing fanatic who helped Nigel Farage rake in £1MILLION

Przemek Skwirczynski, who is bidding to become an MP in the general election, was photographed smiling alongside Polish far-right leader earlier this year

Far-right problems: New links revealed

A rising star of Ukip poses for a snap with a Polish far-right leader – who defended Hitler and said women are too stupid to vote.

Przemek Skwirczynski, who is bidding to become an MP in the general election, was photographed smiling alongside Janusz Korwin-Mikke earlier this year.

Korwin-Mikke is head of Poland’s Congress of the New Right party – and was crucial in helping Nigel Farage’s party gain a £1million funding jackpot from the European Parliament.

The Pole agreed to one of his MEPs, Robert Iwaszkiewicz, joining Ukip’s parliamentary alliance – Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy.

His move pushed Mr Farage’s group over the threshold to achieve official status and a cash boost.

To qualify, an alliance must have 25 MEPs from seven countries. Mr Farage had 47 MEPs but needed Iwaskiewicz to give him a seventh nationality.

The group consists of supposedly like-minded Eurosceptics.

But Mr Farage is so keen to shore up his position in Brussels and pocket millions in funding for UKIP that he has jumped into bed with extreme right parties.

Przemek SkwirczyÀski
Meeting: Przemek SkwirczyÀski and Janusz Korwin-Mikke

He has publicly insisted he never met Korwin-Mikke and has described him as “utterly reprehensible”.

And last month the Pole bragged his new deal with Ukip would allow him to “blackmail” the Brit.

He said: “We are Eurosceptics and felt obliged to help… also now we can always blackmail him, he will have to help us.”

Previously Korwin-Mikke, 72, insisted Nazi leader Adolf Hitler probably knew nothing of the Holocaust and claimed women were “dumber than men” and should not be allowed to vote.

Yet Mr Skwirczynski – prospective parliamentary candidate for Tooting, South London – was happy to pose with the Polish bigot, who has also spouted vile opinions about disabled people.

Labour MP John Healey said: “It is very worrying a Ukip politician is associating with a group pushing such vile views – and not for the first time. Ukip deliberately courts these far-right parties to secure more cash for its coffers.

“Ukip must explain why it has chosen a candidate who keeps this unsavoury company.”

Mr Skwirczynski, a Canary Wharf banker, arrived from Poland in 1999. He is a member of his party’s Friends of Poland group.

While he was willing to pose with Korwin-Mikke, the extremist’s views are so repugnant even French National Front leader Marine Le Pen shunned an alliance with his party.

The deal between Ukip and the Polish Congress of the New Right was sealed last month.

A month earlier, the snap of Westminster hopeful Mr Skwirczynski with Korwin-Mikke appeared in Polish newspaper Dziennik Polski.

Mr Farage, who enjoys fine food and wine in restaurants like Il Pasticcio near the European Parliament, has been making equally dubious allies.

They include two MEPs from the Swedish Democrats, which was launched in 1988 as a white supremacist party.

Another is independent Joelle Bergeron, 65, an ex-stalwart of the French National Front who is now said to be flirting with the ultra-right Parti de la France.

Mr Farage’s bizarre alliance also includes former Lithuanian president Rolandas Paksas – the first modern European leader to be removed from power by impeachment amid concerns over his ties to organised crime.

When he formed the group in June, Mr Farage said he was proud of the way they came together despite strong opposition.

He said: “Expect us to fight the good fight to take back control of our countries.”

And the UKIP leader insisted the alliance was a force for good and boasted: “I am very proud to have formed this group with other MEPs and we undertake to be the people’s voice.”

Mr Skwirczynski insisted he simply had a picture taken with Korwin-Mikke, but would not comment further.

Nigel Farage
Nigel Farage: Fresh problems

A source close to the candidate said: “Someone took a photograph of the two of them together while they were at a meeting of politicians of Polish origin.

“David Cameron has his picture taken with Vladimir Putin but it does not mean Britain collaborates with the Russians.”

The source added: “Przemek insists he had no idea of this man’s views until he read them in British newspapers.

“He says that anyone with more than two brain cells would disagree with the views attributed to Korwin-Mikke.”

Ukip faced further embarrassment as Martyn Heale, chairman of the party in Thanet South, spoke of his “regret” at having been a member of the National Front in the 1970s.

Mr Farage is standing for election as an MP in the Kent constituency.

Since 2008 the party’s constitution has banned new members who were part of extreme right-wing groups such as the BNP, the English Defence League and National Front.

> GUEST POST re Nigel Farage’s Corruption of Ukip in the light of The BBC’s Panorama program.

.

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
FARAGE, Nigel 94 ORCHESTRATING A DEFECTION 01Nigel Farage has for over 15 years personally hand picked his leadership team, rigging and orchestrating internal elections and placements; fulsome in the praise of those he selected, clearly in the hope that he could derive personal gain from the placements he made.
These are the very people he condemns as ‘Dregs and Rejects’ as soon as they see the light and realise his self serving and self enriching corruption and dishonesty’, those who see through his willful self aggrandizement in the adulation of the ill informed and largely dispossessed – the very same underbelly of society which Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party built their rise to power on and to which Alex Salmond turned when he tried to build his destruction of these United Kingdoms, ‘The Dregs and Rejects’ they had gathered around them in efforts to enhance their positions, who like Hindenberg and many others were vilified when no longer ofuse’.
THE NIGEL FARAGE SHOW: A 360 degree Panorama of cloak and daggers
cigarageRegardless of the evident bias in last night’s BBC documentary on Farage, the reporter’s assessment of the UKip leader was entirely justified by the evidence.
The gap between human expectation and eventual outcome produces one of two things: humour or tragedy. Personally, I find the hopes people have for Nigel Farage and UKip hysterically funny – at times, even difficult to understand. But there are growing signs (they’ve been growing for the best part of five years now) that those expecting any sort of functional radicalism are tragically wide of the mark. Last night’s 30-minute BBC Panorama demolition of Mr Farage summed up his real being with painful accuracy.
The programme produced nothing those of us who are on Farage’s case didn’t know already; and for all its clinical study of UKip’s bizarre history, that it had an agenda towards the Left the came out pretty much in every observation and conclusion. For these reasons alone, it will be rejected out of hand by the UKippers as an unpleasant mélange of Establishment vengeance and sour grapes. But ultimately, any programme throwing a cap at some villain’s head will only succeed if the cap fits. And I’m afraid Nigel Farage’s head zoomed towards the cap with every attempt to interview him.
The main trouble with the UKip leader is that he is barrage balloon of a target for anyone who’s even half awake. For when it comes to the acid Slog test – listen not to what they say, but watch instead how they behave – our Nige falls at every fence. The dimensions of evidence for the case against St Nigel the Redeemer could be summed up as his crude bluster, controlling nature, devious personality, doubted honesty, and tendency to use the means in order to disguise the ends. But ultimately, the programme established one thing beyond reasonable doubt: he is a man hiding in a cloak full of daggers.
The best filmic part of the Panorama episode was without question the juxtaposition of early speeches praising his appointees, followed by later remarks of gutter nastiness. It’s not especially dignified to refer to former colleagues as “the dregs of the rejects”, but given he both chose and then heaped plaudits upon them at first, it isn’t very smart either. I’ve spoken with people over the years who are anything but the dregs of anything, but they all say the same thing: become a threat to Farage’s leadership, and you’re dead meat in very short order.
In this and other areas, various historical events demonstrated the essentially devious nature of the man’s character. He clearly promised the Beeb an interview, and then hid away until they got bored….and made this programme. Again, not very smart. Having started off wading about in Devon floodwaters, he became evasive the minute people began asking which way he had voted, as an MEP, on the issue. The fact is, he didn’t turn up to vote; and his ‘principled’ assertion that UKip doesn’t vote because it doesn’t accept the Parliament’s legality is cant. The Party votes on several issues there – but to get oneself elected with the sole intention of doing nothing is a complete abrogation of the democratic foundation of representation.
As Ukip’s support grows and the General Election gets closer, the man at the top of the UKip heap is already toning down his anti-Camerlot rhetoric, saying he be prepared “to prop up David Cameron” after May 2015, but the price would be an EU in/out referendum by July. So we hold the referendum, and vote ourselves out: what then? He has no intention of propping up Dave: he is vitriolic about the PM in private, and his sole intention the minute it becomes possible is to have him replaced. It’s not hard to see what sort of approach we’re going to get after that.
In the middle of the half-hour slot, however, doubts were raised about Nigel Farage’s financial honesty. In that context, interviewing his former colleagues was entirely justified, as they presented compelling Treasury evidence that the Leader was taking the lion’s share of UKip funds for his own political ends. Another assailant who pointed out that some £120,000 had been collected – but only £18,000 had finally appeared – left not just a bad taste in the mouth: it suggested that said assassin knew he could provide evidence to show this. He had no fear of being sued….and neither did the BBC.
To that, one has to add how Nige has been gaily tweeting over recent weeks about all these fat donations he’s getting from obscure rich people of whom one has never heard. He is a keen supporter of the existing, utterly corrupt, system of raising Party funds, as a result of which Ed Miliband must listen to dreary Trade Union syntax ad nauseam, and the Conservatives continue to preside over a “justice” system that has let Newscorp off almost entirely, absolved bankers from even trial let alone prison, and covered yet more of our growing land in houses thanks to a bribe from the construction industry….after which, the Chancellor offered up a blatant bonus for the same sector – Help to Buy – at almost entirely the taxpayers’ risk.
This inevitably takes one back to Nigel Farage’s profession, and what he thinks about the City and its regulation. The short answer is, he loves the City and he doesn’t want any regulation: “The banking collapse was caused, more than anything, by bad government policy and the total failure of bad regulation, rather than by greed,” he told an interviewer a few years ago. Tell that to the shareholders in the Midlothian, the SME victims of RBS…once you’ve picked yourself up off the floor. For Farage, it’s as if Libor, gold manipulation, Diamond’s dubious deals and Freddie Goodwin’s rapacious mishandling of the ABN Amro takeover had never happened. If Mr Farage doesn’t call taking a £340,000 bonus while losing taxpayers’ money, it’s hard to know what he would attach the definition to.
Even when talking (accurately) about what a disaster the euro has been, UKip’s führer is careful to keep his keepers away from the limelight. Talking about Greece in 2012, he remarked, “Greece isn’t a democracy now, it’s run through a troika – three foreign officials that fly into Athens airport and tell the Greeks what they can and can’t do.”
“Three foreign officials” is a gross and deliberate distortion of of the Troika’s identity. They were the IMF (a thinly-veiled agent of the State Department and Wall Street), the bondholders (carpetbaggers working for the same Mafia) and the European Central Bank – which wound up with most of the haircuts, stumped up by EU taxpayers. What Greece wound up with was a debt it can never repay: thanks to the irresponsible lending policies (aka greed) of the members of a community of which Nigel Farage is a proud and unapologetic member. His suggestion that Greece’s ignominy is down to three obscure bureaucrats is nothing more than obtuse bollocks.
What we have to remember about Farage is that he is radical along one narrow dimension: the European Union, and its potential to nobble the City of London’s power base. It is the single belief we share. But in all other dimensions of radicalism at this blog, he is as reactionary and dismissive of ordinary people as a Michael Fallon or a Jeremy Hunt.
Nigel Farage is not opposed at all to the dominance of Bourses in the raising of capital. It’s his own heartland, why would he be? He doesn’t want financial regulation, and shares the same arch insouciance as Dan Hannan on the subject: “The regulators we have are hopeless, so let’s have no regulation at all”. He is an avowed globalist and – as we’ve seen on two occasions recently – quick to morph into Fido Farage whenever the gargoyle Murdoch snaps his grubby fingers. Last Sunday, he declared “…there is a role for the business people in the NHS”. He approves of private health cover. He is not a mutualist.
If the Surge for Nige continues, then the UKip boss will indeed change the face of Britain: he will make it an even uglier stream of neoliberal vomit than it is now. I urge all of you who veer in his direction, or merely that of the nonentities with whom his ragbag army is replete: think again. This man will, if given half a chance, make things much worse.
In short, he will be revealed as the effluent in the room.
Nigel Farage is heading for government – but his Ukipper capers would be a menace to Britain
Sunday People political editor Nigel Nelson urges voters not to give Nigel Farage a crack at government
PAINS ON AN ASSPAINS ON AN ASS
Some intelligence reaches me which I might avoid sharing with my children – each generation has been brighter than the last.
Denmark has carried out the same IQ test on 18 year olds since the 1950s to check their suitability for military service.
And the Danes found IQ went up three points a decade.
Then something odd happened. Scores peaked in 1998 and are now 1.5 points lower. UK and Australian studies produced similar results.
Scientists don’t know why we’re getting dumb. And dumber. Just that we are.
Which takes me to the North Kent coast and the South Thanet constituency where I suspect Danish IQ testing would show an even sharper decline in intelligence.
That’s because Nigel Farage has been selected as Ukip parliamentary candidate there.
South Thanet voters would need the IQ of donkeys to send the Ukip leader to Westminster. And those in Clacton would be asses to allow Tory defector Douggie Carswell to remain their MP.
PA Farage: your having a laugh
Farage: your having a laugh
This Nigel likes that Nigel. I enjoy his company, and admire his political savvy.But Ukip MPs would be a bloody menace if David Cameron or Ed Miliband end up leading a minority government next year.
Coalition deals would have to be done, and if Ukip had any part in them it would be a deal with the devil.
Ukip is no party of government. Its manifesto looks as if Nigel wrote it on the back of one of his fag packets.
Ukip’s only answer to complex issues like terrorism, immigration, and fuel poverty is to leave the EU.
The Kippers even claim, bizarrely, that exiting Europe would put more fish in the sea.
John Chapa / Barcroft USA Ukip's pledge: more fish in British waters
Ukip’s pledge: more fish in British waters
 And then there Nigel’s own IQ to consider. He’s offering to buy a pint for the winner of the Ukip conference prize draw, a modest financial commitment.
I’ve read the small print which says the competition “is open to individuals aged 16 or over who are resident in the UK.”
But 16 year olds can only drink legally in a pub if they are bought a meal as well.
And I wouldn’t trust Britain’s economy to a man who spends five times more than he originally intended.
Yes all too easily this can be shown to be the frippery of the media but the very fact that Ukip is laid open to these criticisms whether of failing to explain how their move to leave the CFP might give rise to more fish and how abrogating on Treaty Undertakings can be achieved or encouraging 16 to 18 year olds to break the law, when it comes to the national licensing laws.
How may the idiots in Ukip’s leadership team be considered suitable for any position in Governance when their entire policy seems to revolve around policies and clever weezes dreamed up on the spur of the moment and endless ill thought out band wagon jumping is no substitute for gravitas, reliability and responsible intelligent planning.
After 21 years with the core policy of Leave_The_EU neither Nigel Farage nor Ukip in general have managed to provide a credible, honourable and ethical exit and survival strategy – little wonder they lost their last representative MP at Westminster so rapidly when Bob Spink saw through the smoke and mirrors and comic behaviour of Ukip’s leadership to its core of racism, anti homosexuality and criminal corruption.
Little wonder Ukip after 21 years has but a miniscule spattering of Councillors and that includes the all but irrelevant Town & Local Councillors and absolutely no one within so much as a sniff of election in a General Election as they pin their desperate hopes on a Tory turncoat hanging onto his seat in a by election!
Like Alex Salmond in Scotland Ukip is desperately trying to enrich and empower itself without any credible structure or plan, dependent on stirring up fear and hatred amongst the least well educated and those who feel dispossessed by the relentless march of modern life and the unarguable effects of the global increase in population, communications, mobility and technology hand in hand with undeniable increases in temperature and changes of weather patterns that this planet has always been at the mercy of as our local star pulsates on what seems to be a cyclical basis over the eons!
I note today a Ukip press release written for Jill Seymour that endeavours to make much of the efforts of Staffordshire to ring fence expenditure for its cancer patients and end of life patients – yet as ever with Ukip they capitalise on criticism funded by the public purse but have, like Alex Salmond, no plan B.
For those interested in the subject of cancer care, the NHS and end of life care may I suggest you CLICK HERE for some FACTS! I suggest Jill Seymour reads this too before letting Ukip write more press releases for her!
Hi,
further to my article explaining why Clacton is so perfect a constituency for Ukip at CLICK HERE Matthew Parris clarifies the point showing just how dispossessed the electorate of Clacton are and just how this plays into the hands of those who depend on stirring up fears, hatred and failure amongst the less well educated to feed on that negative energy and dupe the people into believing that they have the answers when all they have is simple presentations and jingo bereft of vision – dreams of ephemeral transiency without substance best sold to those least able to critique or constructively analyse the lack of solid data in the glitzy sales pitch of such as Farage and his cult following in Ukip who like the YES campaigners of Alex Salmond in Scotland increasingly expose their vile bullying and abuse as their desperation for glory and greed for power becomes more transparent.
Tories should turn their backs on Clacton
Published at 12:01AM, September 6 2014
The seaside town represents a Britain that’s going nowhere. The future belongs to places with more ambition and drive
At Stratford railway station in East London they’re a bit sheepish about the line to Clacton-on-Sea. Directed to platform 10a, the intending passenger easily finds platform 10; but of 10a there is no trace. It transpires that 10a is elsewhere, down a staircase at the far end of the platform. On 10a there are no train indicators and no staff. But you may just spot a “Clacton” sign on the train as it pulls in.
By the time you get to Clacton, most passengers have fled at intermediate stops. You walk almost alone through a well-kept station built for busier times, past a tidy canteen with a good range of meat pies at £1.50, and past a welcome-to-Clacton artwork constructed sweetly of glazed tiles picturing the resort. A red plastic litter-bin is prominent in the composition.
This is not a dirty or un-self-respecting town. Evidence of local pride and municipal effort is everywhere. The pier and the Princes Theatre struggle gamely on. On September 14 they welcome Ken Dodd and his Diamond Anniversary Happiness Show; later, Nights on Broadway with a group called the Bee Gees Story.
I met nothing but helpfulness there. Clacton-on-Sea is a friendly resort trying not to die, inhabited by friendly people trying not to die. Clacton is the constituency in England and Wales with the highest proportion of retired residents, almost the lowest proportion of residents aged 25-44 and the highest proportion of single elderly person households.
These are not wealthy retired professionals (almost 40 per cent of residents have no qualifications at all) and if you associate tattoos with youth, Clacton will surprise you. Father Time is busy with his scythe here: I counted 19 estate agents on Station Road, and you can get a three-bedroom detached bungalow for £94,995.
Only in Asmara after Eritrea’s bloody war have I encountered a greater proportion of citizens on crutches or in wheelchairs.
Shops tell you so much. Though at Burton’s they are offering “Free shoes when you buy a suit! (from £99)”, Lycra is the textile of choice and I saw not a single woman under 70 in a skirt, still less a dress. I was able to stock up on reading glasses at £1.99, and in Holland & Barrett the “Serious Mass Muscle Gainer” came in bucket-sized black plastic tubs at the checkout for the impulse purchaser. There are ten tattoo parlours and no Waterstones.
Enough. Don’t buy the too-easy media picture of a rancid or untended town, or of bitter people; but understand that Clacton-on-Sea is going nowhere. Its voters are going nowhere, it’s rather sad, and there’s nothing more to say. This is Britain on crutches. This is tracksuit-and-trainers Britain, tattoo-parlour Britain, all-our-yesterdays Britain.
So of course Ukip will do well in the by-election. Pollsters say they’ll win easily, though I found the Tories (busily repainting their constituency office) in defiant mood, and I do wonder if Douglas Carswell’s self-portrait as Man of Honour and Genius will entirely survive the campaign.
My aim, though, is not to deny Ukip its likelihood of victory. They make a good fit for Clacton. Somebody has to represent the static caravans and holiday villages, and the people and places that for no fault of their own are not getting where a 21st-century Britain needs to be going.
Nor do I deny that we Conservatives, if we tried hard enough, could get some of these voters back. There are many in a place like this who might be attracted again to the Tories by a noisy display of hostility towards immigration-and-Europe, political correctness and health-and-safety: hostility to a Britain that has forgotten the joys of Ken Dodd, meat pies, smoking in pubs and the Bee Gees.
No, my aim is to ask this: is that where the Conservative party wants to be? Is it where the Tories need to be if they’re to gather momentum in this century, rather than slowly lose it? Or do we need to be with the Britain that has its career prospects ahead and not behind, that can admire immigrants and want them with us, that doesn’t want to spend its days buying scratchcards and its evenings smoking in pubs, that’s amazed at all the fuss about whether gays should marry, that travels in Europe and would hesitate to let those links go?
I am not arguing that we should be careless of the needs of struggling people and places such as Clacton. But I am arguing — if I am honest — that we should be careless of their opinions.
A besetting sin of democratic politics is that party politicians, like religious evangelists, must seek clients. The weak, the unlucky, the resentful, the fearful, the old and the poor will always be the easiest to enlist as clients, for they have nowhere else to go but into the arms of politicians promising them sympathy.
It’s harder for politicians and priests to enlist successful people, busy people, people who want to go places, because these people are less likely to be looking for the crutches — practical or moral — that politics or religion can offer. So, often without meaning to, a political party seeking not only votes but self-affirmation is drawn towards a town called Hopeless.
This is the terrible, I would say fatal, mistake that the left made in the 20th century with Christian Socialism. Marxian Socialism is about success, not failure, and elevates achievement, not suffering. But the British left lost its way and ended up with the politics of victimhood, subsidy and the soup kitchen.
When Tory canvassers describe as “good areas” the streets where support is strong, they mean “good” in both its senses. But for Labour canvassers their good areas are the bad areas. Ukip, if it prospers, will find the same. More and more, their hopes will lie in Lycra not tweed.
Some of the Tory right want to drag the Conservative party the same way: to invest our political future in the disappointed, the angry, the nostalgic and the fearful. This is not a crazy strategy, because the market in pessimism is easy to capture, and easier to hold on to than the market in optimism; there will always be millions of pessimists.
But the truth from which the right hides is this: you cannot have both. You cannot look like a party for the resentful and still appeal to the cheerful. If you want to win Cambridge you may have to let go of Clacton.
From the train leaving Stratford at platform 10a, you can see Canary Wharf, humming with a sense of the possible. You must turn your back on that if you want to go to Clacton. I don’t, and the Tories shouldn’t.
To view the original article see today’s Times {Now hidden behind a paywall on the internet!}
Dr. Tim Stanley the historian who specialises in the history of America with a new book on Hollywood coming out next May has made some prescient points on Mathew Parris’ smug self satisfaction, right as he may well have been.
The academic Tim Stanley in his immaturity of genuine experience has of course over simplified and taken issue with Parris on the wording Parris presented wherein Parris talks of the people of Clacton as some sort of ‘working class’ seemingly unwilling to go that extra step and talk of the ‘dispossessed’ who have, largely due to educational failure, failed to keep up with society and its changes and technology. That this body of dispossessed may well be decent folk they are no less an easy group to bestir and are those self same people on whom Adolf Hitler built his power base just as Alex Salmond has done in Scotland and Nigel farage is currently doing south of the tartan curtain.
Irresponsibly building on the fears of these people, with no real working solution, is all too easy as Farage has shown with his endless band wagon jumping soft racism and hard core failure to provide a realistic and responsible, let alone honourable, exit and survival strategy. Being rude to those in authority has always been an easy route to the support of those who know they have no hope of ever being amongst tghat elite and it is essential that such as Alex Salmond ensures his following never get wind of his diletante interests and art collection just as despite his intake of fine wines and self indulgence in excellent restaurants Farage ensures his PR photos are of him ostensibly swilling yet another pint of beer along with the chavvery in the pub ‘fag’ in hand:
Dear Matthew Parris: if the Tories abandon the working class to Ukip, they will deserve to lose 2015
I’m writing this blog at midnight: the angry hour. The hour when you’re only awake because you’ve spotted something that infuriates you and – damn it – you have to put every furious thought down. They teach this process in anger management, apparently. Talk through what went wrong from beginning to end and maybe it’ll all make sense.
What went wrong is that Matthew Parris wrote an article for The Times. A very ugly article indeed. He took a trip to Clacton, the seat being contested in a by-election by Tory/Ukip defector Douglas Carswell, and Matthew was not impressed by what he found. He found a bit of Britain that isn’t London.
By the time you get to Clacton, most passengers have fled at intermediate stops. You walk almost alone through a well-kept station built for busier times, past a tidy canteen with a good range of meat pies at £1.50, and past a welcome-to-Clacton artwork constructed sweetly of glazed tiles picturing the resort. A red plastic litter-bin is prominent in the composition.
Yes, it sounds like Hell, Matthew. Not a Starbucks in sight – and car parking spaces that would barely fit a limousine. How our intrepid reporter coped with the natives I cannot say, although it’s quite obvious that he didn’t like them. Really, his language is shockingly rude about people who are – lest we forget – human beings.
Clacton-on-Sea is a friendly resort trying not to die, inhabited by friendly people trying not to die… These are not wealthy retired professionals (almost 40 per cent of residents have no qualifications at all) and if you associate tattoos with youth, Clacton will surprise you. Father Time is busy with his scythe here: I counted 19 estate agents on Station Road, and you can get a three-bedroom detached bungalow for £94,995. Only in Asmara after Eritrea’s bloody war have I encountered a greater proportion of citizens on crutches or in wheelchairs.
The conclusion to all this nastiness? That the Conservatives should abandon Clacton to the Neolithic Ukippers and reach out instead to aspirant urban middle-classes and hard-working immigrants (because anyone who pays less that £1 million for their house has clearly not been working very hard all their life – the peasants).
“I am not arguing,” argues Matthew, “that we should be careless of the needs of struggling people and places such as Clacton. But I am arguing — if I am honest — that we should be careless of their opinions.” So, yes, he is saying that the Tories should be careless of their needs. Because what they need is what they ask for – respect. And Mr Parris can’t bring himself to give that to tattooed simpletons on crutches.
Why am I so angry about all of this? For philosophical and personal reasons. Philosophically, I cannot see that Matthew is a democrat if he thinks national leaders should dismiss an entire class and its opinions. I cannot see that he is a patriot if he dislikes his own people so much. And I cannot see that he is a Tory if he does not feel a responsibility to serve them. After all, the essence of Toryism is to seek to assist all the people regardless of background. It is the Left traditionally that separates people by sectional interest – the desire to become “the masters now”. By contrast, the One Nation Tory tradition seeks to forge a spirit of national community that promises aspiration and compassion for all. Even Margaret Thatcher – yes, Margaret Thatcher – did that. After all, she let those working class people buy their own houses, never privatised the NHS and united the nation in liberating the Falklands. To be a Tory, at its best, is to serve. Not to dismiss and ignore. Conservatism stripped of compassion is just nasty social Darwinism.
And Matthew’s column grinds my gears on a personal level because I, too am “ordinary”. I know the kind of people he’s describing; there are a lot of them in my family. And although I may have grown up into something that could perhaps be described as “exotic”, I’ve retained a deep love of the ordinary. I love seaside towns like Clacton: the piers, the fish’n’chips, the crappy shows (more impersonators of the Bee Gees than there were Bee Gees), the fag ash, the “family tattoo emporiums”, the loud families, the tired old gramps falling asleep on the bench, beer in plastic cups and merry-go-rounds that electrically hum Black Lace classics. It might not be pretty by 5 star London standards – but it’s Britain. Those people who Matthew dismisses built this country. They have survived world wars, recessions, depressions and 16 Eurovision humiliations in a row. They are indomitable – and no Westminster bureaucrats or clever-clogs writers will ever change them. I love them. I love them because I have to as a Christian and I want to as a fellow Briton. We are family. And you don’t turn your back on family.
Matthew seems to imagine that he’s handing out sage advice to David Cameron about how to build a Tory majority, but he’s dead wrong. On the contrary, columns like this suggest to people from my background what they’ve always suspected: that Tories are laughing at them. By and large that isn’t true, but Matthew has come to represent a segment of liberal opinion that defines itself by a perceived superiority to everyone else. And if David Cameron follows that strategy at the next election, he’ll be left with just one segment of the population enthusiastically backing him: Matthew Parris.
Now it’s 12.50am and I must go back to sleep, if I can. I’m still very, very angry. I may well be so for some time.
But I do contend that Matthew Parris most clearly out maneuvers the notably light weight Tim Stanley’s all too simplistic rush to self publicity, with his regular column in The Times:
A Tory schism is now all but inevitable
Douglas Carswell’s defection is part of a strategy to scupper the EU referendum and take over the Conservative party
Never trust a man in love with his own probity. On the BBC yesterday morning Douglas Carswell made three references to himself as “honourable” within 35 seconds. “Putting my principles on the table,” he has claimed. The language should arouse immediate suspicion.
Ignore the weekend’s cooings about Mr Carswell: “honourable man”, “intellect”, “man of principle”, “no ordinary rebel”, etc. Just consider what he has done. Here is a politician who, to get himself elected, wrapped himself in the mantle of the Conservative party, spent years at Westminster undermining the Conservative party and now renounces his party at a moment chosen to inflict maximum injury.
Yet he brays about his principles while admirers gush about his intellect. Where is the principle, where is the intellectual integrity, where is the honour in this? Mr Carswell professes shock that David Cameron hopes to negotiate a European deal that can be recommended to the British people. What other kind of deal does he think a prime minister should aim for?
Mr Cameron never did claim that he wanted to leave the EU. But if the Conservative party has changed at all since Mr Carswell last flew its colours in 2010, it has grown more Eurosceptic, not less.
He is one of those characters who sometimes briefly thrives in the thin soil of Commons philosophising — a stupid person’s thinking person with a gift for making shallow oversimplifications sound wondrously deep. He will find it a sullying business being Ukip’s philosopher king to the man on the Clacton omnibus.
He calls himself a libertarian — and joins a party the limits of whose libertarianism would be to allow smoking in pubs (and, for all I know, bear baiting) on the grounds of personal freedom. He will tire of playing king of the kids for Ukip, and they will tire of him — as happened to Enoch Powell after his defection to the Ulster Unionists.
So much for the man himself. But to scorn the individual is not to trivialise the damage he can do. The damage could be immense. The campaign by the ultras on the Tory right to wreck then remake their party is well on track.
There is a decent chance that Mr Carswell will win his by-election and some possibility that a couple of other Conservative zealots may try to follow him. A “Ukip surge” and the momentum that could be created by a series of awful by-election results for Tories in the months before a general election could be grave. Mr Carswell’s move will hearten 30 or more Conservative MPs on the party’s right; they are with him in spirit already and are waiting for their moment. I fear that moment will come.
Ukip and the Tory irreconcilables are perfectly relaxed about the possibility that Mr Cameron could lose the next election; they do not want the EU referendum that would follow his victory. They want the present Tory leadership to stumble and fall, and, from the internal battle that would follow, they see the emergence of a new kind of party led by a new kind of leader from the anti-European right.
My fellow columnist Tim Montgomerie could not have been more wrong when he wrote in yesterday’s Times Red Box blog that “Ukip voters don’t believe that the Tory leader is serious about the referendum”. The “let’s-get-out-now” brigade in British politics have a very different fear. They fear that Mr Cameron would indeed hold his referendum and win it.
Accordingly they will do all they can to derail this referendum; and they know that if Mr Cameron gets his mandate in next year’s general election, this will be hard to do. They therefore aim to derail the Tory campaign, starting now.
It’s no good us moderates bleating that this could only lead to a Labour victory and no referendum. The right know that. And if a Labour victory (which they believe would be short-lived) is the price that has to be paid for their take-over of the Conservative party, then many would be content to pay it. Their eyes are fixed on the longer view.
I hope, but cannot be confident, that we can stop them. The seismology of British politics awaits a major quake. Ukip and the Tory right aim to trigger this quake. From the rubble they believe a party of the right that looks very like themselves will emerge. The more liberal and centrist Tories, they think, could make common cause with some Liberal Democrats and even Blairite Labour politicians. Their ultimate aim, then, is for Ukip and the Tories to merge under the banner of a new Conservative party.
This is a logical, if odious, plan. It may prove achievable. But it’s not a plan that — for all their bluster about honour and principle — the irreconcilables dare admit to. So they will continue to protest their loyalty but moan about Mr Cameron’s weaknesses, casting him — he whose personal ratings are well ahead of their party’s — as the problem and remaining ready with the sly shin kick or the sudden access of personal conscience whenever Tory fortunes seem to be rising. Mr Carswell’s “principled” resignation is part of that strategy.
I now see schism in the Conservative party as all but inevitable, whether in government after 2015 or out. Perhaps it will be healthy for democracy. There are plenty of nutters out there and maybe the nutters do need a party to represent them, though the slow-dawning disappointment that awaits the Tory right in the coming decades is that there will never be quite enough nutters to form a government.
For the rest of us Conservatives there emerges just one imperative, and Douglas Carswell’s departure should fix it in our minds. We must have nothing to do with these people. No concessions to Ukip, no more rightward creep, no fluttering of eyelashes and no dogwhistled calls for anyone to come back. These people don’t want a compromise — Mr Cameron has already thrown them too much meat — and the more you give them, the more they’ll demand.
Douglas Carswell’s departure is an early warning of what may be to come. So now is the moment to dig in. If a schism is coming, we moderates must draw our own battle lines. And about this there must be no question: we aren’t shifting. We, the old, battered, wary, pragmatic, often-compromised, one-nation Conservative party, are the Tories. If divorce looms we must make sure the breakaway zealots don’t get the house, the car, the company, the client list, the trademark or the brand.
So I finish as I started, with this message to Mr Carswell and his crew. Go to Ukip by all means. And stay there.
You may well consider reading up on my earlier take on this issue of the division of the Tories as it seems Stuart Wheeler sees it, by placing Douglas Carswell in a position to ensure Ukip is more acceptable to Tory EUrosceptics so that Boris Johnson can fracture the Tories and bring the two together distanced from the overburden of baggage brought to the union of the two parties without Farage or his ego and insecurities at CLICK HERE
Hi,
sadly this is not only all too plausible, but having been subject of Ukip lies and aware of just how dishonest, corrupt and vituperative they can be, I incline to believe the full basis of Lee Jasper‘s reporting of the facts in the case of the abuse of Jasna Badzak.
Ukip are not only unfit for purpose they are a disgrace to the body politic and as self serving and evil as the war criminals Tony Blair & his cabinet and as destructive to Britain as Alex Salmond has been for Scotland – and all in pursuit of their own vain glory and enrichment!
Regards,
Greg_L-W
UKIP, the Metropolitan Police Service and high corruption .
Over the past year or so, I have found myself in the rather strange position of supporting a woman, originally a staunch Tory, who defected to UKIP and has now returned, to the Tory party fold.
For me, a black, socialist activist, who is usually to be found defending poor people, facing institutional racism and gross injustice, this was very strange territory, indeed.
In the course our discussions it became apparent to men that Jasna appeared to be the victim of a concerted, organised smear campaign designed to completely discredited her, led by leading members of UKIP.
What makes this case so compelling is their appears to be a strong prime facie evidence, of the existence of a small cell of UKIP supporters, certainly based within the Metropolitan Police Service, maybe within the Crown Prosecution Service and the possibly the Judiciary.
I can’t say for certain what’s going on, but my long experience and professional instinct, tells me that there is something rotten at the core of this peculiar and often bizarre story.
An uncommon friendship.
BADZAK, Jasna 01Jasna Badzak is a former press officer for UKIP. She started work for Nigel Farage and Gerard Batten MEP in November 2010 and around a year ago; she was convicted of defrauding UKIP of some two thousand five hundred pounds in October 2013. Around a year ago Jasna rang me, seeking support for what she claimed, was a miscarriage of justice.
I was intrigued and decided to meet Jasna. I must confess, on one level I was definitely interested in anything that might expose UKIP, a party infested with racists. On the other hand, I was simply curious as to what an ex Ukipper and former, now returned to the fold true blue Tory, could possibly want to see me, of all people, about?
We met on a lovely spring day over coffee. Jasna, arrived, a tall woman with definite sense of fashion. We chatted and she told me a little of her background. She had fled former Yugoslavia as a refugee some 20 years ago. Her family includes Nazi holocaust victims.
She had reached out to me in desperation, hoping that I may be able to see the injustice she had suffered and help her in some way. The stress she was suffering was clearly etched in her face but what struck me was her determination and obvious strength of character. She intrigued me.
Jasna began to tell me her story and what I heard amazed me. As an experienced campaigner, in my time I’ve heard some outlandish conspiracy theories and what I heard that day, would shock me to the core.
A criminal conspiracy.
Jasna believed she was the victim of a possible criminal conspiracy to set her up, orchestrated she suspected by Gerard Batten MEP in an alliance with officers within the Metropolitan Police Service, aided by the Crown Prosecution Service and the Judiciary. I had to ask the obvious question; How is it, she didn’t know that UKIP was a racist party?
BATTEN, Gerard 11
She told me that when she joined UKIP, she assumed the accusations of racism, were just the overblown claims of a hostile press. However as the months passed she became increasingly concerned. Once she read the draft of Gerard Battens UKIPs Charter for Muslim Understanding, Dismantling Multiculturalism, a rancid and deeply disturbing document, that amongst other things, required all Muslims to be required to sign a code of conduct,
At that point she was left in no doubt about the core beliefs of UKIP and the awful truth dawned on her. From then on, she knew precisely what Gerard Batten was all about and she was rightly appalled and disgusted.
BADZAK, Jasna 02 with FARAGE
Confronted with claims of racism Farage did nothing
Naively, she began to complain bitterly to Nigel Farage whom she assumed would share her disgust about Batten’s obvious racism. She told me that although Farage was both frustrated and apparently sympathetic, in the end, Farage did nothing.
Jasna told me that Farage had eventually told her, that nothing could be done as he and Batten shared ‘mutually destructive information about each other’, that ultimately meant that Gerard Batten couldn’t be touched.
That would certainly explain why Farage, a politically savvy operator, has long tolerated Batten. Good sense and political expediency suggests he should have been sacked, representing as he does, a distinct and dangerous electoral liability. I suspect that Farage failed to act because he fundamentally shares Battens deeply offensive views.
As a social justice campaigner, I’ve been around long enough to know, that sometimes such claims, can be claims the product of mental health conditions such as deep delusion or depression, paranoia or conspiracy theory fanatics.
Nevertheless, I listened intently to her story and though I was very skeptical of her claims and not entirely sympathetic, given her politics, nevertheless she struck a chord with me.
What I concluded was here was a deeply damaged, credible and sincere woman, whose life has been utterly destroyed, the victim of what appeared to be false and malicious accusation and a concerted smear campaign. Her character, her demeanor and steely determination to prove her innocence and expose UKIP racism and corruption impressed me. I knew what she was taking on in seeking to challenge her perceived injustice.
Going up against UKIP, Farage, Batten and the police, was very brave thing to do. Putting aside my own political prejudice, I decided I should explore her claims further.
What she told me that day blew me away. Transcending party politics, we connected on a human level, as two people who shared a commitment to challenging injustice. Jasna experience in Yugoslavia cemented her hatred of racism and fascism. She knew first hand the dangers of allowing racism and fascism to take root. I did however had to let a wry smile slip, when she told me of her previous role on Boris Johnsons 2008 Mayoral campaign.
Despite my obvious reservations, what was absolutely crystal clear to me was there were several unexplained facts, which gave some credibility to her claims. Whilst at that stage I did not agree with some of her conclusions, I had to agree that something’s just didn’t add up.
Here I must apologies in advance of the length of this article. It’s a complex story and necessarily needs some detailed explaining, but bear with me dear reader, it’ll be worth it.
First, it’s important to understand the sequence of events that preceded and then led up to Jasna’s eventual arrest.
Background.
Ukip logo + Farage
Jasna started work for UKIP in November 2010 after defecting from the Tories. By the spring of 2011 Jasna discovered, what she describes as the ‘racist and fascist underbelly’ of UKIP. She says that UKIP was producing material she believed, constituted a criminal offense i.e. incitement to racial hatred. She was aware that Gerard Batten was meeting with European extreme right wing racists. She was also concerned at what she described as ‘ monumental EU expenses fraud’ taking place within UKIP.
Here in the UK, she became increasingly aware of Battens association with the now, all but defunct, English Defense League and British National Party. With the evidence mounting Jasna was so concerned that she made a number of official complaints to the Met, citing what she believed, were a range of potentially serious criminal offences.
In March 2011 she formally complained to the Met, that the Charter of Muslim Understanding and Dismantling Multiculturalism taken in concert with Battens association with extreme racist and fascist’s organisation, constituted a clear incitement to racial hatred.
As UKIP press officer, Jasna claims that, over time, her day-to-day work experience proved beyond any doubt that UKIP was both a ‘racist and proto fascist party’. In May that year she provided the police solid evidence that backed up her UKIP EU expenses fraud allegations. That same month she reported another leading member of UKIP for possession of child pornographic images.
Annabelle Fuller
Finally in July 2011 she then provides a devastating witness statement that alleges that UKIP Annabelle Fuller, Nigel Farage’s personal press officer, knowingly made false allegations of sexual attack in relation to Tory MP Andrew Bridgen.
Violent intimidation.
It was then that Jasna and her family then begin to suffer direct violent intimidation. From October 2011 to November 2012 she intermittently endures a series of visits to her home, by random groups of strangers, who threatened her and her son. She believes that this was organised harassment by EDL supporters with whom Batten was meeting seeking an EDL/UKIP alliance.
She reported this intimidation to the Met and was surprised to find out that yet again these complaints were being refereed to a Detective Sargent Shaun Reardon, the very same officer who had failed to investigate her initial complaints of UKIP racism and EU fraud.
Worried about escalating violent intimidation and seeking to cope with her own failing health, Jasna then seeks a restraining order court injunction against Batten in Feb 2012.
Met officer supports UKIP.
Here’s where the begins to get interesting, MPS Detective James Galvin turns up at court, embraces Gerard Batten proceeds to tell the court that the MPS has no record of any allegations against Batten nor were there any current, active police investigation into him. That was a lie and, as the MPS has now admitted Galvin, had no authority to represent the Met or attend court. Her case was eventually dismissed as a result.
Gerard Batten, then formally wrote to the MPS on October 5th 2012 reporting his fraud allegations against Jasna. He actually wrote his allegation on UKIP letterhead, which must constitute and attempt to politically influence the investigation. The Met having failed to investigate any of Jasna serious previous allegations, then acted immediately upon receipt of Battens complaints. .
Jasna was subsequently arrested on 29th November 2011, when surprise, surprise, Detectives Constable James Galvin and Detective Sargent Shaun Reardon both, attended her home. They wanted to arrest her there and then, but she Jasna was so ill, it was decided to take her to hospital instead.
The Met formally denies the existence of two serving police officers misleading the Prime Minister David Cameron.
https://ukipvseukip.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/6f810-scotland-yard5b15d.jpg
Subsequent to her eventual arrest and charging, Jasna wrote to the Met Commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe asking, why her many complaints to the MPS had not been investigated? This was in sharp and total contrast to the Mets, swift and immediate response to Battens complaint.
This lead to another key question, why had DC Galvin had turned up at the injunction hearing, defending Batten?
The answer, when it came, was as shocking as it was unexpected. The Mets Department of Professional Standards informed her that the Metropolitan Police Service employed no such named police officers. Shocked and alarmed she persisted and again she was told again that no such officers were employed by the Met.
She then wrote to the Independent Police Compliant Commission who after some time, wrote back, confirming, that after discussions with the Met, they too can confirm that no such officers existed.
https://ukipvseukip.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/04c98-images.jpeg
Jasna at this stage was completely frustrated and wrote to Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and Prime Minister David Cameron.Both then wrote to the Met and both were told, in writing, that no such officers worked for the Met.
Prime Minister was mislead.
The fact is the Prime Minister, the Mayor of London and the IPCC, were mislead and possibly willfully mislead, by the Met DPS about the existence of these two officers.
This begs they very important questions as to precise circumstances that led to two of the most senior Tory politicians in the land were provided with inaccurate and misleading information?
I then looked at the evidence against Jasna and came to conclusion that the prosecution evidence seemed incredibly flimsy. The only evidence offered was a bank statement, which Jasna is alleged to tampered with, she denied this allegation and points to the timing noted on her on line bank statement that indicated that both statements offered in evidence were printed off within one second of each other.
Evidence produced in court proved that Jasna logged on to her bank account at exactly 8:11:02 and her bank statement was printed 8:11:03 as recorded on her computer and accepted by the police. Did she really amend her own bank statement in one second?  Unlikely to say the least.
Jasna has consistently contended that she was the victim of malicious counter complaint by Batten as a result of whistle blowing about UKIP’s racism and EU expenses abuse. Further she told me that the EU always paid late and they never knew from one month to the next, when they would get paid. Batten and UKIP at that time were in the eye of a media storm focusing on the racism of their candidates. As a result UKIP were in utter disarray and an administrative shambles.
She points to this culture of incompetence and confusion by way of explanation. In short, this was an administrative error and as soon she realised she offered to pay the full amount back. This was rejected in favour of prosecution. In addition and hampering her ability to defend herself in the months prior and after her arrest Jasna was recovering from major heart surgery.
Another interesting fact was that her court date was brought forwarded, because the lead investigation Metropolitan Police Officer, Mr. Shaun Reardon’s reported that his father was near imminent death.
This change of date resulted in the case being heard by Recorder Michael Gledhill (Recorder therefore not a fully fledged Judge)
These things happen, you might say, however we were to learn later, that this Recorder had a direct connection to Gerard Batten MEP, which he failed to declare. He should have dismissed himself once he knew the detail of the case was and the identity of the defendant.
It would later transpire that Gledhill has consistently worked as an barrister alongside Gerard Batten’s best friend, the deeply homophobic and Islamaphobic Paul Diamond, on a range cases for the Christian fundamentalists extremist organisation, Christian Concern or Christian Voice, such as the seeking actions to close down the West End musical Jerry Springer: The Opera. Christian Concern is an organization that has an extremely close alliance with UKIP.
Gledhill, during this most extraordinary trial made a series of political and factually incorrect statements and seemed hell bent on securing a conviction.
During the trial, he wrongly alleged that Jasna was a serious criminal wanted in a number of EU states. This was factually incorrect and without foundation. Jasna was a person of good character, without previous convictions or even any minor civil infringements and had been in the past whilst in Yugoslavia,working for the British Foreign Office and had been in possession of highest security clearance
Gledhill, in an unprecedented outburst for a Recorder, went further and praised UKIPs Charter of Muslim Understanding and Dismantling Multiculturalism that contained proposals to ban the religions of both Islam and Judaism. He described this charter for racism as ‘perfectly reasonable documents anybody would agree with’. These deeply offensive reports were to subsequently appear on the front pages of a range of national newspapers, condemned as racist and echoing fascist politics in both tone and tenor,
This document was rightly condemned by a broad range of national newspapers and was subsequently condemned by all serious British Parliamentarians.
Gledhill also then suggested that Jasna was mentally ill and ordered a psychiatric evaluation (which subsequently proved Jasna was quite sane). With virtually no substantive evidence and under challenge from Jasna’s Counsel, Gledhill refused to dismiss the case.
Then to Jasna’s total surprise, the very same officers who we had previously been told, did not work for the Met, DC James Galvin and DS Shaun Reardon appeared in the Court and testified against the Jasna.
At the trial they said they had no idea why we, the PM, the Mayor and the IPCC had received written confirmation that they were not serving police officers. They produced their warrant cards and Gledhill simply dismissed the matter.
After a three days trial, Gledhill began to sum up to the jury. What happened next proved to be yet another extraordinary twist in this complex tale. Gledhill’s summing up went on went for an incredible two hours, thirty minutes during which he pressed the jury to find Jasna guilty. When printed this summing up ran onto 78 pages of transcript. The jury, after being pummeled into submission by the Recorder found Jasna guilty by majority verdict after 2 days of deliberating.
0n the 7th October 2013 she was given a 1-year suspended jail sentence for 2 years and 4 months, plus an unsupervised curfew order. For a woman with no previous convictions this sentence seems excessively harsh. This gives to rise to the serious question of whether Jasna court date was actually moved to ensure that a judge sympathetic to UKIP would hear the case?
Why did Gledhill not declare a conflict of interest in this case given his strong association with Paul Diamond, Christian Concern and UKIP?
TOWLER, Gawain 05 advert
That same day as the verdict was announced, Gawain Towler, UKIP Chief Press Officers feeds inaccurate stories to Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail to further destroy Jasna now battered credibility.
In January 2014 Jasna Badzak then receives a written witness statement from UKIP insider, stating that Batten had been openly boasting, of stitching up Jasna Badzak for fraud in order to destroy her credibility, as well as reporting that Gawain was heard boasting about the coverage the story received. He is reported to have said he was pleased at the reception of the article he had actually wrote in September 2012, almost a year prior to Jasna’s conviction.
The Met finally takes action against suspected officers with links to UKIP.
During the spring of 2014 I start raising questions and highlighting the details of this case. I conducted a long radio interview with Jasna and started tweeting my concerns and my general support for her. Then in March 2014 Jasna is suddenly contacted by Superintendent David R Manning from Charing Cross police station who indicates that they are intending to now act on Jasna earlier complaints, that pre dated Battens fraud allegation and were now reopening a total of five separate UKIP investigations.
The following month both Jasna and I attend Charing Cross Police Station where we are told that the Met now plans to open a formal police investigation in conspiracy to pervert the course of Justice against DC James Galvin, DS Shaun Reardon.
Subsequently we have found out that DC James Galvin appears to be a member of UKIP and has attended UKIP rally.  His name is also on leaked BNP list as well as name of his wife
At this meeting we gave the MPS additional evidence in relation to a Detective Inspector Fleming and another officer, DC Tony Holden. We had strong witness evidence that both contacted prominent journalists threatening them with arrest if they published any negative stories about UKIP. This group of officers is now being investigated on suspicion of the harassment of journalists, perverting the Course of Justice and there may be a possibility of abuse of office by Recorder Michael Gledhill.
Met police harassment continues despite their assurances.
Then in June 2014, Jasna while at the cardiologist and attached to an ECG, Jasna receives series of emails DS Christopher Page sent to Badzak’s lawyer Atkins ordering her to surrender herself by 10 July 2014 to Charring Cross Police station to answer ‘very serious allegations’. This date also happened to be Jasna’s son’s 16th birthday adding to the family’s harassment and distress.
Later she receives a telephone call from the DS Christopher Page again demanding she come in for interview under caution for the ‘twitter harassment of Gerard Batten’.
Jasna is then called to a meeting with the Mets, Department of Professional Standards with Inspector Fran Polllard and DS Helen Thomas. Superintendent Manning was relived and replaced by these two officers. We are told later that Manning had been moved after Bernard Hogan-Howe received direct orders from MOPAC and Boris Johnson to get to the bottom of this case.
Jasna and Atkins attend police interview under caution with DS Christopher Page.  DS Page full of himself reads MIRANDA to Badzak and then hands over to Graham Atkins A4 page note containing following statement:
 “Jasna Badzak has been harassing Gerard Batten with false newspaper stories, tweets that he stole £51k with help of Police in January, 09 May 2014 article in Sunday Times saying perverting the course of Justice, tweets about Islamophobia, lies about Batten attending 1st Counter Jihad Conference in Brussels in 2007 and talking to Lee Jasper.”
Jasna solicitor Graham Atkins stunned at the nature of the accusation asks for disclosure. Page refuses saying that is only disclosure he will get. Page asks Jasna about background to Batten’s complaint.  Refusing to be intimidated Jasna states for the record
‘UKIP is criminal fascist organization.  I stand 100 % behind that and under Article 10 of European Convention of Human Rights incorporated in British law as Human Rights Act 1998 I have a right to freedom of speech and there is nothing you can do about that.  You can also not order me to keep quiet or not to tweet.  I know you would like to silence me completely, to muzzle me but you can’t despite your telephone threat not to tweet’.
Page then lies, saying that he never ordered Jasna not to tweet about Batten. Fortunately Jasna recorded his telephone call and tells a stunned Page that she has irrefutable evidence that he did order her not to tweet about Batten or talk to me. Page is immediately subject to an investigation
Conclusion.
In summary, I suspect that there may have been an active conspiracy involving members of UKIP, Metropolitan Police Service, possibly the judiciary to falsely criminalise and character assassinate Jasna Badzak. If true this would represent the most serious threat to the very basis of our democracy and law and order.
Should it be that UKIP members or sympathisers in statutory agencies are conspiring together to criminalise, harass and intimidate people UKIP disagree with, then this would require the most urgent intervention from the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister.
Along with the Plebgate revelations of deep systemic corruption within the MPS, this case raises the most profound concerns about the nature and accountability of the Metropolitan Police Service. If Police Officer’s are engaged in targeting moderate political activists from both the left and right, then that has to be an issue of acute concern for us all.
With evidence of the Met spying on families campaigning for justice such as the Stephen Lawrence, Sukedv Reel or Rolan Adams families to name just a few, the Plebgate incident, undercover officers having sexual relations, fathering children in the line of duty alongside rampant institutional racism and the routine abuse of stop and search powers, such allegations if proven, would be so serious as to require the resignation of the Commissioner and Deputy Mayor Stephen Greenhalgh.
We will await the outcome of the Mets internal disciplinary investigations. Such investigations have no real credibility with police investigating themselves and we believe there is strong and compelling case for IPCC to conduct an independent investigation into these matters.
The Met, The Mayor and the Lord Chancellor Office really need to answer the serious questions raised by this incredible tale. Whatever our personal politics, I think we can all agree, this case raises fundamental questions and there is a strong and compelling case to answer.
  • Nikki Sinclaire, a former UKIP MEP who left the EFD fascist group in the EU Parliament because she disagreed with sitting with fascists and has been very vocal critic of UKIP was arrested in January 2012 and charged 23 July 2014, as soon as she changed lawyer to Graham Atkins.
    We believe that arresting officer in this case Officer DC Paul Griffiths may be a member of UKIP.
    UKIP’s surge into lead rocks Tories
    Cameron defies his Eurosceptics
    Nigel Farage’s UKIP has a three-point lead over Labour in the EU elections,
    with the Tories third
    (JOHN STILLWELL)
    DAVID CAMERON will refuse to make any further concessions to Eurosceptics despite UKIP surging into its first lead in the polls this weekend.
    The prime minister was struggling to contain a growing Eurosceptic tide last night as he faced calls from Conservative MPs and the public to take a tougher line with Brussels to counter the UKIP threat.
    Senior Tory backbenchers disclosed that they would visit Downing Street after the vote on May 22 to demand that Cameron outline much more extensive plans for the repatriation of powers from Brussels.
    But Cameron will put himself on collision course with his party after privately dismissing their concerns and vowing not to give an inch — even if the Tories are humiliated in the European elections.
    Tory jitters will be stoked by today’s YouGov poll for The Sunday Times on the EU elections, which puts UKIP in the lead for the first time, with the Conservatives trailing a distant third.
    Despite a week of controversy, Nigel Farage’s party has risen to 31%, three points clear of Labour, with the Tories languishing on a lacklustre 19 points.
    In another blow to the prime minister, the former Tory donor now backing UKIP has indicated that he will bankroll the party at the next general election — boosting Farage’s chances of winning seats at Westminster for the first time.
    Paul Sykes, who is worth £650m, according to next month’s Sunday Times Rich List and is among the 200 wealthiest people in Britain, also revealed that he had funded “at least another two waves” of UKIP adverts before the European elections.
    “I’m not giving up,” he said. “That will warn the Conservatives what’s going to happen. We will get more democracy in Britain if it skints [sic] me.”
    The prime minister, in a newspaper article last month, detailed the powers he wanted to reclaim from Brussels before his proposed in/out referendum in 2017.
    They included demands to stop “mass migrations” when new countries join the EU, curbs on benefits for EU migrants and “red card” powers for national parliaments to join together to block future EU laws.
    But senior backbenchers on the Eurosceptic right, such as Bernard Jenkin, Gerald Howarth, John Redwood and Bill Cash, are all preparing to tell the prime minister that he must address the issue of border controls for existing EU migrants, the European Commission’s attempts to impose the Charter of Fundamental Rights on Britain and the need for national vetoes of existing European laws.
    Howarth, a former defence minister, said: “It’s very important that the prime minister comes out with a specific programme on Europe. Everything we touch, we find that Europe wants to influence or, worse, control us.”
    Another senior backbencher said: “Cameron needs to flesh out in greater detail what the deal is going to be . . . He doesn’t talk about changing freedom of movement, which is a red line for most of us. He has suggested it for new entrants. Why can’t we have it now?”
    But a senior figure in Downing Street has revealed that Cameron will refuse to spell out further red lines on the grounds that an “endless list of demands” will not fit on campaign leaflets.
    In a move that will enrage many, Cameron has privately stated that he has no intention of placating the Eurosceptics. “Some people will never be satisfied whatever you say,” he said. A source familiar with his thinking said: “We won’t be saying more about the renegotiation after the elections. He has spelt out where he wants to see changes and that’s what we are sticking with.”
    Cameron and William Hague are also under fire from Cash, chairman of the Commons European scrutiny committee, who is demanding a response from ministers to proposals by the panel for national parliaments to gain “red card” veto powers of EU laws. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has yet to formally respond to the proposals as it is required to do. “This report is important because it calls for veto and repeal of existing legislation in the national interest,” Cash said.
    Conservative MPs also want more action to defend the City after the Treasury lost a court case against an EU directive on short selling that could drive hedge funds away from Britain. Another ruling, which could usher in a City transaction tax by the back door — opposed by the Treasury — is expected next week.
    The new poll shows that it is the MPs not the prime minister who have public support: 42% of voters do not think his plans for renegotiation go far enough, against 25% who say they are about right. A total of 56% of voters think curbing immigration should be the top priority for Cameron’s new deal with Brussels — a view that Farage has exploited effectively.
    While Cameron has dismissed UKIP as “fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists”, the poll suggests the party has now broken through as a significant political force with a sizeable chunk of the electorate: 57% of all voters regard them as a protest party, 71% of UKIP’s own supporters regard them as a serious party.
    Sykes told The Sunday Times that if Cameron did not grant a referendum in this parliament “to give the people a say on Brussels and our relationship with it” then he would help fund UKIP candidates at the general election.
    “If we get a really good result in Europe and it looks promising . . . we can put some pressure on by fielding candidates, rolling our sleeves up and putting a professional campaign on. They will certainly win some seats.”
    Sykes indicated that UKIP would be sending text messages to all voters next month as part of his spending blitz. “Technology kicks off in about a week’s time,” he said. “That will go out to all mobile phones. You’ve not seen anything like this!”
    He warned Cameron that “the result of the European elections is going to be a challenge to his leadership”.
    UKIP could profit from further Tory troubles this week because the disgraced MP Patrick Mercer is set to quit and force a by-election over a cash for questions scandal.
    The Commons standards committee will meet on Tuesday to ban him from parliament for six months. The MP for Newark, a winnable seat for UKIP, has told friends that if he is suspended for more than a month he will have to stand down
    Tim Shipman and Dipesh Gadher seem to have misunderstood Nigel farage’s relevance and even more so that of the party he so rigidly controls, just as Farage has misunderstood his relevance to Labour.
    UKIP’s status is most clearly thaty of a suitable dustbin for the protest vote – a protest against the indifference of the body politic to the wishes of the people and even more so to their aims, values and concerns.
    That UKIP has experienced no decline in its fortunes in spite of the revelations of its corruption, irresponsibility and racism facts that make the protest ever more meaningful the more befouled and sordid the dustbin is.
    as for Farage’s belief that he is a great threat to Labour and attracting their vote is misunderstanding the polls as the BNP collapses and Plaid’s fortunes wane it is the natural Labour drifters who would all too normally vote Plaid or BNP and even a substantial number of Labour voters who may have voted SNP but realise the limited depth of political understanding of Alex salmon and those, particularly women, put off by his bullying, snearing, hectoring and offensive stridency and lack of a viable team it is these three groups of Labour voters and the protest vote of both Labour & Tory that are providing UKIP’s false dawn.
    Yes of course, unless more of the truth about Farage’s team become understood in time and the relevant arrests are made, Farage will do well in the utterly irrelevant EU elections but as ever they are of absolutely no consequence in domestic politics being unlikely to gain any seats at Westminster let alone a significant enough number to have influence.
    Like the SNP UKIP is so dependent on their leaders, a sound team or recognisable associates making them both look like one mann bands and as with commerce there is no man more vulnerable than the indespensible man even if it destroys the cause!, distasteful as many find them
