Hi,
here is a GUEST POST

Ukip Team Up With Travel Agent To Milk EU Taxpayers

The wife of Nigel Farage yesterday barred The Telegraph from a Ukip fringe meeting instructing MEPs how to secure taxpayer-funded holidays for their friends and supporters.
FARAGE, Kirsten 03
Kirsten Farage asked this newspaper to leave a fringe meeting outlining an EU scheme that subsidises holidays for political activists to Brussels and Strasbourg.
The European Union spends £25 million on the subsidies for tours arranged through Euro-MPs’ offices.
Under the scheme, holiday makers are handed a subsidy of up to £200 in cash if they include a short visit to the European Parliamentary in their itinerary. That money can then be used to pay for hotel rooms, meals and transport.
Ukip’s use of the scheme comes despite Mr Farage’s party being ostensibly opposed to wasteful spending in Brussels.Mrs Farage helped organise the briefing for the party’s new MEPs, which was held in a suite overlooking the track at Doncaster Racecourse at the party’s conference.
“Oh dear,” she said as The Telegraph arrived at the event, which had been advertised in the conference schedule handed to delegates. “We didn’t really want the press.”
“I’d much rather not have any press here. It’s an internal event.
“I’m afraid I’m going to have to send you away.” She said the meeting was to instruct new MEPs of the “logistics” of booking trips.
Asked about the scheme, she said: “Every MEP is allowed to take visitors’ groups over from their constituency or region, or councillors, or business groups they are supporting, or supporting them. It’s an EU scheme.”

She added: “It’s a nice thing to do.”

One five-day package advertised on a stand at Ukip conference, organised by a private tour operator, included a visit to the castles of Koblenz, a tour of Strasbourg Cathedral and a boat trip along the Rhine. The visit to the Parliament in Strasbourg lasts two and a half hours. After the EU subsidy, the holiday costs £389 a head.
Another seven-day Ukip tour takes in Verona, Lake Garda, an excursion to Venice and a tour of Vicenza, known as the City of Gold, before driving on to Strasbourg for a short visit to the Parliament.
Other taxpayer-subsidised tours incorporate visits to the tapestry at Bayeux and Monet’s garden in Giverny before visiting the European Parliament in Brussels.

Here is The Telegraph’s take on the story:

She added: “It’s a nice thing to do.”

A colleague added: “We are not doing anything clandestine.”

One five-day package advertised on a stand at Ukip conference, organised by a private tour operator, included a visit to the castles of Koblenz, a tour of Strasbourg Cathedral and a boat trip along the Rhine. The European Parliament says the scheme allows voters to see their elected representatives at work regardless of wealth.

A Ukip spokesman said the party bans its MEPs from taking party in fact-finding trips organised by the European Parliament to exotic destinations and said they are not in it for “personal gain.”

“Information trips to Brussels for members of the public are open to and used by every political party,” he added.

Hi,
can you imagine an organisation of stature with responsibility behaving like this let alone one that pretends to a status participating in Governance of our country and arbitters of our future.
BUT Ukip IS A One Man Band
FARAGE, Nigel 94 ORCHESTRATING A DEFECTION 01The Showman & His Ukip One Man Band
Nigel Farage has yet again shown that when the chips are down Ukip is just a vehicle for his personally controlled one man band.
Nigel Farager gave Patrick O’Flynn his MEP position by placing him in number one position on his MEP serlection list, in return for Patrick O’Flynn’s despicable underhand betrayal of what little credibility journalists have managed to retain by acting as a senior political reporter for the sleazy Express newspaper without telling his readers, in the run up to the sham of EU elections, that he intended to jump ship just in time to claim his ill gotten reward for misleading them!
Patrick O’Flynn may well have pretentions to lead Ukip and although he is duplicitous, a poor public speaker, uncharismatic and has shown no leadership skills one may well argue he is the best of a particularly uninspiring and unprepossesing bunch at the top of Ukip – But be in no doubt he will have to fight Nigel Farage for leadership.
Patrick O’Flynn has learned yet another lesson this conference and that uis that although Ukip ‘claims’ to make policy democratically and puts forwar so called spokesmen on various subjects – when the chips are down Nigel Farage will nmot only undermine his team, as he lacks any leadership skills, whether he does this by making policy for them to present t6o members at their conference or arbitrarily whipping away the policies they had agreed to announce, when it suits Nigel Farage personally!
Whether it is undermining his spokesmen in his leadertship teram as he so clearly has with the inept and inadequate Patrick O’Flynn or by jumping on to rolling band wagons as he does when usurping any concept of democratic party participation when he sumarily dismisses constituency candidates without so much as a personal meeting to surplant them with his Tory chums or merely for publicity.
Then again no one in the know would describe Nigel Farage to be a believer in the concept of loyalty is a two way street whether that is his wives, his staff, his team mates, his backers or his supporters and ostensible friends they are all merely grist to the mill in the advancement of his self serving one man band.
The facade put forward by the showman is nothing more than an act – an act that can be cast aside at a moments notice if there is gain for Farage personally. Consider the Ukip Manifesto that Farage had presented and signed off when it suited him yet cast aside dismissing it as drivel, out of expediency when called to account on it and passing the buck to others!
To openly describe ones biggest and most consistent backer Paul Sykes as ‘The Yorkshire Dwarf’ seems a poor way to run a principled organisation an organisation that pretends to power and claims to represent the people!

Nigel Farage yesterday ruled out a tax on designer shoes and handbags just 48 hours after the idea was floated at his party’s conference.

The Ukip leader slapped down Patrick O’Flynn, the party’s economics spokesman, over a proposal to introduce a “wag tax” of 25 per cent on luxury goods.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s dead,” Mr Farage told the BBC. “It was a discussion point yesterday, it isn’t going to happen.”

The Mail offers on line readers a more comprehensive eviceration of the unprofessional incompetence of Nigel Farage’s fiefdom:

Farage kills off UKIP’s plans for 25% levy on luxury shoes, handbags and cars after just two days

Nigel Farage today dramatically dumped a flagship UKIP policy to introduce a ‘Wag Tax’ on designer shoes and handbags.

FARAGE, Nigel 96 No Racing Certainty DONCASTER 01
The UKIP leader tore up the plan, unveiled by his chief economic spokesman on Friday, insisting: ‘It’s dead.’
The idea of a 25 per cent VAT rate for top-end goods had been unveiled in an attempt to woo Labour voters at the Ukip annual party conference in Doncaster.

Farage says ‘Wag Tax’ was never in the UKIP manifesto

The party’s economic spokesman Patrick O’Flynn had announced that it made ‘no sense’ to levy VAT on everyday goods at the same rate as luxury items unaffordable to all but the very richest.
He said there should be an extra 5 per cent tax on £200 shoes, £1,000 handbags and £50,000 cars, amounting to a tax on the items favoured by the Wives and Girlfriends – or WAGS – of premier league footballers.
Mr O’Flynn said the party would also look to scrap a loophole which allows foreign visitors from outside the EU to claim back VAT on shopping sprees in London and elsewhere.

We’ll bring in UK-only passport queues say UKIP… as Farage vows to take fight to Labour’s key heartlands
But in an interview recorded yesterday and aired this morning, Mr Farage dramatically consigned the idea to the dustbin.
He told BBC One’s Andrew Marr show: ‘I am very happy to give the freedom to our spokesmen and spokeswomen to float ideas but I’m pretty certain that while I’m leader that will not be in our manifesto.
‘As far as I am concerned it’s dead. It was a discussion point yesterday. It isn’t going to happen.’
The move will raise further doubts about UKIP as a serious political party, despite claims they are now part of the mainstream.
As far as I am concerned it’s dead. It was a discussion point. It isn’t going to happen
UKIP leader Nigel Farage on a Wag Tax
UKIP chairman Steve Crowther tried to put a positive spin on the debacle, claiming that part of the party’s appeal was that it was ‘shambolic’ and did not attempt to be as slick as its rivals.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Pienaar’s Politics: ‘My feeling is we have to clearly make clear that we are capable of having ideas and being able to deal with all of the aspects of government that we might be asked to deal with following the next general election, and we do that.
‘But if sometimes we are a little bit hard-edged or sometimes we stub our toe, I don’t think that’s a problem.
‘It’s part of our brand, frankly, it’s part of what Ukip is.’
He added: ‘I haven’t said being shambolic is something I wish to boast about.’
But he continued: ‘I believe that it is true that Ukip is … liked by its electorate because it is not always as slick and as polished as the other political parties.
‘I think it’s very important. It is the slick polish and nothing ever apparently going wrong, that leads to, frankly, torpedoes hitting you below the waterline.’
The tax – which has been dubbed a ‘wag tax’ – would hit the Ryder Cup golfers’ wives and girlfriends,

The tax – which has been dubbed a ‘wag tax’ – would hit the Ryder Cup golfers’ wives and girlfriends, or ‘Gwags’, led by Amy Mickelson (second right) yesterday
Mr Farage had promised that the appointment of a series of new spokesman would set the party on course to draw up a sensible manifesto for the 2015 election.
In January this year he dismissed the 2010 manifesto as ‘drivel’ and claimed he had not read it, despite having written the foreword.
‘It was a nonsense. We have put that behind us and moved onto a professional footing,’ he said at the time.
But he has moved quickly to abandon the idea of a Wag Tax, despite it being seen as an obvious attempt to woo left-leaning Labour voters in the north.
Under the plans announced by Mr O’Flynn, the personal income tax allowance would also rise to the level of the full-time minimum wage. This would mean no-one paying income tax until they earn over £13,500 a year.
The party would also cut the 40 per cent rate of income tax to 35 per cent for earnings between £42,000 and £55,000. Inheritance tax would also be scrapped altogether.
Mr O’Flynn told the conference: ‘I want it to investigate the feasibility of imposing a luxury goods rate of VAT.
‘It makes no sense to me that VAT is levied at the same rate on budget items purchased by the hard-pressed as it is on premium ones that are the preserve of the very well heeled.
‘And it seems to me that a luxury goods rate of 25 per cent could raise substantial extra funds from the wealthiest people.
‘I would suggest such a rate be built around simple thresholds such as £200 for a pair of shoes, £1,000 for a bag or £50,000 for a new car.’

Hi,
I doubt if Henderson Chambers head of Chambers, Charles Gibson QC, can be too impressed with this chappie judging by his track record of delivering fraudulent lectures in China (for more facts CLICK HERE) and inept recruitment of Tory MPs for Ukip, where to date they have only managed to recruit two turncoats and neither of them were of much significance, all be it one of them isa also a somewhat unprepossesing Barrister unlikely to hang onto his Tory seat as a Ukip candidate at the General Election next year.

Carless & Rechwell can hardly be mistaken for value for money converts – rather just easy target disgruntled and passed over Tory back benchers of little note.

Ukip’s man in the Commons bars woos Tory defectors over pint of beer

A Ukip official has been approaching a number of Conservative MPs to encourage them to defect to Nigel Farage’s party

Ukip's legal officer Matthew Richardson

Ukip are attempted to recruit Conservative MPs from under the noses of the Whips over glasses of beer on the House of Commons terrace.

A number of Tory MPs have been approached to defect to Nigel Farage’s party by a senior Ukip official working in the office of a member of the Lords.

Matthew Richardson, a barrister and Ukip’s legal officer, has approached a series of Tory backbenchers as they enjoy drinks in the autumn evening sunshine by the river Thames.

While Ukip does not have any MPs, Mr Richardson is able to access the corridors and cafes of the Palace of Westminster because he is a member of staff of Lord Willoughby, the Ukip peer.

Senior Ukip sources confirmed he had recently tried to recruit two Conservative backbenchers suspected of being sympathetic to Ukip: Adam Holloway, a former Captain in the Grenadier Guards who represents the Gravesham constituency; and Philip Hollobone, the MP who Kettering.

Mr Hollobone holds the record of the most rebellions against a party whip so far this Parliament, but he insisted that he would not be defecting. Mr Holloway did not respond to messages.

The terrace, running along the bank of the Thames, is packed in the summer months with MPs enjoying drinks from subsidised bars.

It was at the centre of allegations of sexual impropriety by MPs who had over-indulged.

Mr Richardson, a bon viveur in his early thirties, is also understood to spend several afternoons each week drinking coffee beneath the glass atrium of Portcullis House, the MPs’ office block, in order to approach potential defectors.

He is thought to have triggered panic in Tory ranks after boasting to targets of the number of Conservative MPs he had lined up to follow Douglas Carswell, the MP for Clacton, in quitting.

At Oxford, Mr Richardson studied engineering and was Treasurer of the Union. He made headlines as a student after he bluffed his way to China to deliver a series of lectures on economics at Beijing University, despite having no knowledge of the subject.

He was mistaken invited to speak on the course, and only gave up after nine hours of lectures, when he ran out of material from pages ripped out of an A-level text book.

Mr Farage is understood to have endorsed the operation but was incandescent after it came to light, threatening to “kick him in the b—s.” Mr Richardson declined to comment.

On Friday Mr Carswell was cheered by Ukip activists in Clacton, as he warned the “full weight of the Westminster machine” including Cabinet ministers been sent to hold the seat for the Tories.

Senior Ukip sources admit that no further defections are likely until Conservative and Labour MPs see the result of the Clacton by-election on October 9.

One senior figure said that by setting a precedent of calling a by-election after quitting, Mr Carswell may have “set the bar too high” and discouraged others from following suit.

On Friday Mr Farage said that he does not expect to be the leader of Ukip in ten years’ time. He suggested his successor would be a woman, saying Ukip is more likely to adopt a female leader than any other party.

Suzanne Evans, the party’s communities spokesman, is thought by members to be a front runner. Told about Mr Farage’s comments, she laughed before adding: “Leadship is a heck of a role.”

MERCHANT, Piers 21-Sept-2009 – IN MEMORIAM

Posted by Greg Lance - Watkins (Greg_L-W) on 21/09/2014

21-Sept IN MEMORIAM Piers MERCHANT – THREE YEARS ON!

———————————————-

———————————————–

Piers Merchant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Piers Rolf Garfield Merchant
(born: 2 January 1951) & (died: 21 September 2009)
aged 58

Piers Merchant was a politician in the United Kingdom.
He was Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Beckenham, but resigned in October 1997.

Before he became an MP he was a journalist and marketing officer.

Merchant was educated at Nottingham High School and the University of Durham where he was Senior Man of University College’s JCR. He was first elected to the House of Commons at the 1983 general election, for the Newcastle Central constituency, he lost the seat at the June 1987 general election. He stood for Beckenham at the 1992 general election and won.

MPs cannot technically resign; instead he took the offices of Steward of the Manor of Northstead, which automatically led to his disqualification.

In the 2004 European Parliament election, Merchant stood for the UK Independence Party in the North East England constituency, at the top of their party list. He was not elected.

Piers Merchant worked for some years, in various capacities, for UKIP, having been at one time political advisor to Roger Knapman the UKIP leader during their sucessful 2004 election and also for a short time acted as UKIP General Secretary until a suitable individual could be found full time.

In 2005, Merchant relocated to Great Torrington in North Devon. Merchant is also a member of Mensa.

News

It is with regret that I inform you that in early July 2009 Piers was diagnosed as having advanced multi site metastatic cancer, the prognosis being bleak. His wife Helen supported by their two children is with him at this time. (07-Jul-09)

It is with regret that I inform you that on 21-Sep-2009 Piers Merchant died after a short terminal illness. The cause of death was multi site metastatic cancer.

Piers Merchant leaves his wife Helen and their daughter and teenage son. Piers had faced his illness with courage, supported by his family, and leaves many friends and colleagues, Piers’ brother will find it particularly hard as their Mother had died only a matter of a few months ago after a brief terminal illness, though at a much more acceptable age.

The EUroRealist movement has lost an indefatiguable campaigner and a well informed advocate, whose contribution in UKIP has been immense. He will be remembered with affection by his many colleagues in UKIP and before that from his days as a Conservative MP and before.

It is sad that his colleagues in UKIP did so little to defend his name when he was lied about and defamed by Mark Croucher, Douglas Denny and others who claimed he had betrayed the party by being Junius when clearly he was not nor ever wrote as part of that team as proven when he died. There were even lies put forward that he had tampered with UKIP web site to send copies of eMails to him for publication on Junius.

This was clearly all too typical of the dishonesty of UKIP’s leadership team and its odious claque of self serving low lifes.

Not ONE of UKIP’s leaders or followers spoke out in his defence, either before or after his demise!

My personal condolences to their children Alethea and Rolf and to his widow Helen Merchant (nee Burrlock) whom he married in 1977. Helen loyally stood by Piers throughout the visicitudes of a colourfull and productive life, whilst maintaining a high powered career in her own right.

Much of Piers’ life was was spent in service to British liberty and democracy, though he will be remembered by many for his colourfull private life – a life too soon lost!

Further details of his life can be found in The Telegraph if you CLICK HERE

It is terribly sad. Piers will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him, to whatever degree. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Hi,
minded that during the period in question ALL Ukip MEPs accounts were under the direct scrutiny of Nigel Farage’s directly appointed staff and the details known of the dishonesty of sometime Ukip appointee staff member John Ison I am of the informed belief that in reality there is no case to answer for Nikki Sinclaire who has seemingly been set up!
It is also proven public knowledge that senior members of Farage’s leadership team have frequently lied about Nikki Sinclaire and Nigel Farage and Ukip have more than once been found guilty of af abuse of Nikki Sinclaire, whilst one time Ukip deputy leader and MEP Mike Nattrass acted on uncorroborated information supplied by the liar John Ison who worked in collusion with Nigel Farage’s sewer rat Mark Croucher!
That all three members of Nikki Ainclaire’s staff who were arrested originally based on the false premise of acting to money launder for Nikki Sinclaire were released with no case to answer despite their names being made public, yet no public appology was made by the police.
Further the false claim of money laundering accounted for around half of the police allegations.
Further the EU whom the police belatedly claim were defrauded by Sinclaire has made no complaint and seemingly has provided no evidence to support the West Midland’s police claims which it took them 29 months to construct.
It is also a matter of public record that Nikki Sinclaire’s auditted accounts show that she has paid in in cash, of her own money, to do her job and carry out her political campaigning during the period in question in very substantial excess of the sums she is, in my opinion, falsely accused of stealing!
Knowing thwe willingness of Ukip’s leade4rship team to lie to satiate their personal ambitions and personal enrichment and also their proven association with certain police officers that are believed to be corrupt I incline to believe that this entire case is a tissue of lies – that is not to say that she will not be found guilty and even spend time in prison.
Such an outcome would not surprise in our country where democracy is dead viz the fact that only 4% of the electorate have had a say in the possible destruction of these United Kingdoms and in a desperate attempt and without any democratic debate both Labour & Tory leaders have made promises to buy the result of Scotland’s independence vote. without ANY Parliamentary debate or mandate!
We are, as the last Government constantly claimed, living in a post democratic era – clearly one in which the occupying forces of the supra national state have an utterly corrupt police force which has never brought to justice on a murder charge one of its own who has chosen to slaughter a citizen on the street with lethal force in direct contrtavention of British law which prohibits a death penalty for ANY crime.
Further let us remember that irrefutable fact that the police have proved they are prepared to liue to defend their own criminal members and select which crimes they will or will not prosecute viz Rotheram police failure to defend children from industrial level sexual abuse known to them in their capacity as ‘Law Enforcement’ a term the modern police  bring shame upon – just as Bailiffs act outside of the law to steal goods, often far in excess of the value of any debt claimed!
I do not believe that the alleged case against Nikki Sinclaire has any more validity than the pack of lies presented regarding Jasna Badzak and that the case is just as corrupt as were the lies and allegations regarding me made by Ukip MEP Gerard Batten and his police puppets – one wonders if Batten also abused his position to make enquiries with Interpol to further his lies regarding me as he did regarding Jasna Badzak!
It would seem a great evil stalks the body politic and its name is Ukip who IF they ever reached any real position of authority could, based upon their track record, be expectedf to abuse that authority and participate in industrial level corruption and obscene levels of abuse and bullying using their dishonestly obtained office for personal gain!
I believe that Nikki Sinclaire is and has consistently been abused by Ukip and is innocent of any charge of deliberate instances of fraud – misrepresented by the police as ‘Money Laundering’ to make the offence seem greater – ‘Money Laundering’ is an offence specifically designed to deal with drug and terrorist processing of cash and also the proceeds of major criminals.
It is clear that the police claims are dressed up to make them seem greater than they actually might have been had they ever occurred and IF they occurred there would seem to be no connection with Nikki Sinclaire but much to do with the original crimes Nikki Sinclaire personally reported to the police long before her arrest! Crimes that would have proved to be embarrassing to Ukip and the Farage leadership team!

Former MEP Nikki Sinclaire appears in court on fraud charges

First published 09:21 Wednesday 17 September 2014 in News by Gema Bate

A FORMER West Midlands MEP will appear before magistrates today (Wednesday, September 17) accused of money laundering offences after an inquiry into her expense claims.

Nikki Sinclaire, who lost her seat in the European Parliament earlier this year, also faces an allegation of committing misconduct in a public office.

Sinclaire was charged in July this year after a long-running inquiry by West Midlands Police and the European Anti-Fraud Office.

Two of the three charges against Sinclaire, brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act, allege that she converted criminal property between October 2009 and December 2010.

Prosecutors further allege that Sinclaire committed misconduct between October 2009 and July 2010 “in that she made or caused to be made” false and dishonest claims for travelling expenses.

Sinclaire lost her seat as an MEP for the West Midlands in last May’s European elections after leaving Ukip and standing for the We Demand a Referendum Now party.

The 45-year-old, who lives in Shirley, near Solihull, has described the allegations as “ludicrous and unfounded”.

In a statement issued in July, Sinclaire said: “I strongly refute these charges and will be firmly defending myself.”

FORMER Canvey MP Bob Spink has rejoined Ukip.

Mr Spink said “the time was right” to rejoin the party, although he said he had no plans to stand in an election.

He said: “Ukip is a completely different animal from what existed in 2008 when it was pulling 1.8 per cent of the vote.”

Mr Spink was elected as Conservative MP for Castle Point in 1992 before he lost his seat in 1997, and regained it in 2001. He defected to Ukip in 2008.

He lost his seat again in the 2010 elections to Conservative Rebecca Harris.

One is forced to wonder if Douglas Carswell will also prove a fair weather friend having it seems quit the Tories in a fit of pique at being allocated a room for the confernce some.distance from the conference hotel, rather clearly showing his status within the Tories!
I believe he will challenge Farage for the leadership of Ukip sponsored by Stuart Wheeler and have his election campaign funded also, challenging Farage in his personal fiefdom may prove to leave blood on the carpet under which so much has been swept over the years!

Ukip Notably Absent In Intellectual Opposition to The EU  having no representation of any gravitas, nor credible policies for an honourable exit & survival strategy despite 21 years of ‘claimed’ opposition to EU membership!

.
Hi,

some twenty of the country’s leading economists and economic commentators have backed calls for an In/Out referendum on the subject of Britain’s relationship with the EU.
In default of honourable patriotic leadership, in these United kingdoms, willing to restore the supremacy of the peoples over Westminster as the authority in Britain and restore respect for our borders and British Justice under British law in respect of our Monarch.
The peoples of Britain deserve to have their voices heard, in a free, fair and informed referendum equally funded in respect of democracy voting on Britain’s membership of the EU, which is long overdue.
The informed signatories of the letter, published in the Daily Telegraph, added that Britain had nothing to fear from leaving the EU, an argument self evident in the light of the damage to our industry economy and democracy that membership of the EU has proved to be, as warned of by Enoch Powell 25-Feb-1970 CLICK HERE whilst Edward Heath and his Government betrayed the peoples of Britain based on their lies, misrepresentation and Government funded spin and propaganda promoted by a largely subservient press..

The letter below was released to mark the launch of Economists for Britain, which under the leadership of Dr Ruth Lea, aims to provide an intellectual sounding board for the research.

The text of the letter follows:

Dear Sirs,

As economists and economic commentators we are writing to add our voices to the growing demands for a new relationship between Britain and the European Union and to express our support for an In/Out referendum.

For too long the debate over Britain’s EU membership has been characterised by half-truths and outright fabrications. The wholly misleading claim that millions of jobs would be lost if the UK were to leave the EU has been comprehensively disproven and refuted.

Research shows that British business wants and needs a substantial change in our relationship with the EU. The Prime Minister’s own Red Tape Task Force has warned that EU red tape is holding back job creation and business expansion. However, before thinking about leaving the EU, we must see if the British Government can first secure better terms of membership. But if the negotiations do not deliver, there is nothing to fear from leaving.

The UK’s future prosperity increasingly depends on its ability to trade with the whole world, not just its European neighbours. In 1980 the EU accounted for over 30 per cent of world GDP, today that figure is less than 19 per cent. The share of UK exports to the rest of the EU has fallen by 10 per cent in the last ten years alone. We need to move beyond a 20th Century economic mind set and be free to develop our links with the rising economies outside Europe.

Just as “little Englanders” are wrong to argue for protectionism, so too are “little Europeans” who only focus on Britain’s trade with its next-door neighbours. We need a global vision, a vision that looks beyond the limits of Europe and sees the opportunities that the wider world offers.

Will Nigel Farage’s arrogance, hubris & corruption fail him? As he faces a leadership election in November with possible more credible challenges to his cult status, that will make Ukip’s way forward smootyher!

.

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
one has to wonder at this article from Nigel Farage’s puppet paper; where it seemed all too clear that Patrick O’Flynn was rewarded for his sycophantic and promotional articles, where he failed to have the integrity to tell his readers of his bias, and was rewarded, as a newcomer to Ukip, with first place on their list and a near certain placement as an MEP (EU Democracy, I think not), for his corruption as a journalist!
The question is whether Nigel Farage has given this interview in arrogance, hubris or outright contempt for Ukip members based on the fact that so much of Ukip’s internal actions and both selections and elections have been undeniably corrupt and rigged.
Nigel Farage totally dismisses tyhe fact that his leadership term ends in November and by the 15-Sep-2014 nominees for positions in the new leadership election must be put forward – no doubt Ukip have already selected who will go forward to give the impression of a democratic process, which is unlikely based on Ukip’s tarck record of corruption and dishonesty eg CLICK HERE
One also has to be aware that not only is Patrick O’Flynn positioned, and by some mooted, to return Nigel Farage’s generosity in giving him the position and income of MEP but now we have Stuart Wheeler’s protege Douglas Carswell as a likely contender as the new leader to make an amalgamation with either a split Tory party or a Tory party led by Boris Johnson, which Wheeler has mooted, bewtween the New Tories and a New Look Ukip.
Will the undeniably corrupt and self serving abuses of democratic process and the bullying and whisper campaign so common in Farage’s Party cult succeed this time or will Farager be ousted sooner than he expects?
Nigel Farage says he will lose Ukip leadership if he doesn’t win South Thanet seat
NIGEL Farage has admitted he could be ousted as Ukip leader if he doesn’t win a seat at next year’s general election.
Published: Wed, August 27, 2014
Nigel Farage says he will be ousted as leader if he doesn't win seat Nigel Farage said: “If we fail the party will pick someone better than me” [PA]
Mr Farage has been chosen as a prospective parliamentary candidate for South Thanet in Kent, the constituency he finished fourth in back in 2005.When asked on Good Morning Britain if he would quit as leader in the event of an unsuccessful election, he said: “In all of life, if you succeed you get the laurels and the champagne and if you fail you get booted out. “That applies to Ed Miliband, to David Cameron, to Nick Clegg and to me.
“If we fail next year the party will pick someone better than me. But we won’t.”
Addressing his dismal result in 2005, where he garnered just five per cent of the vote, Mr Farage said: “10 years is a long time in politics – 10 years ago people did not see the Ukip message being relevant.”
Mr Farage will now seek to win the Conservative-held seat against Craig MacKinlay, the former Ukip leader chosen to stand for the Tories, as incumbent Laura Sandys stands down.
He said he has “not one ounce of complacency”, and said that Ukip is making gains by taking votes from across the three main parties.
Ukip’s recent strong performance in Kent in this year’s European elections has made victory in the seat appear a more realistic prospect.
Across the Thanet District Council area Ukip topped the poll, with 16,492 votes, more than double the votes cast for the second-placed Tories.
Speaking to supporters last night, Mr Farage said: “We can’t for one moment afford to be complacent because we swept the board in 2013 and we swept the board here in 2014.
“We did and that was magnificent. But don’t think that the heavy artillery from the Conservative and Labour parties will not be fired on this constituency.
“They will, they will, they will try very, very hard. They don’t want Ukip breaking through into Parliament and they most certainly do not want me breaking through into Parliament.
“Somebody said I’m David Cameron’s worst nightmare. Well, that’s not good enough. I want to be Ed Miliband’s worst nightmare, too.”
Nigel Farage is heading for government – but his Ukipper capers would be a menace to Britain
Sunday People political editor Nigel Nelson urges voters not to give Nigel Farage a crack at government
PAINS ON AN ASSPAINS ON AN ASS
Some intelligence reaches me which I might avoid sharing with my children – each generation has been brighter than the last.
Denmark has carried out the same IQ test on 18 year olds since the 1950s to check their suitability for military service.
And the Danes found IQ went up three points a decade.
Then something odd happened. Scores peaked in 1998 and are now 1.5 points lower. UK and Australian studies produced similar results.
Scientists don’t know why we’re getting dumb. And dumber. Just that we are.
Which takes me to the North Kent coast and the South Thanet constituency where I suspect Danish IQ testing would show an even sharper decline in intelligence.
That’s because Nigel Farage has been selected as Ukip parliamentary candidate there.
South Thanet voters would need the IQ of donkeys to send the Ukip leader to Westminster. And those in Clacton would be asses to allow Tory defector Douggie Carswell to remain their MP.
PA Farage: your having a laugh
Farage: your having a laugh
This Nigel likes that Nigel. I enjoy his company, and admire his political savvy.But Ukip MPs would be a bloody menace if David Cameron or Ed Miliband end up leading a minority government next year.
Coalition deals would have to be done, and if Ukip had any part in them it would be a deal with the devil.
Ukip is no party of government. Its manifesto looks as if Nigel wrote it on the back of one of his fag packets.
Ukip’s only answer to complex issues like terrorism, immigration, and fuel poverty is to leave the EU.
The Kippers even claim, bizarrely, that exiting Europe would put more fish in the sea.
John Chapa / Barcroft USA Ukip's pledge: more fish in British waters
Ukip’s pledge: more fish in British waters
 And then there Nigel’s own IQ to consider. He’s offering to buy a pint for the winner of the Ukip conference prize draw, a modest financial commitment.
I’ve read the small print which says the competition “is open to individuals aged 16 or over who are resident in the UK.”
But 16 year olds can only drink legally in a pub if they are bought a meal as well.
And I wouldn’t trust Britain’s economy to a man who spends five times more than he originally intended.
To view the original of this article CLICK HERE
Yes all too easily this can be shown to be the frippery of the media but the very fact that Ukip is laid open to these criticisms whether of failing to explain how their move to leave the CFP might give rise to more fish and how abrogating on Treaty Undertakings can be achieved or encouraging 16 to 18 year olds to break the law, when it comes to the national licensing laws.
How may the idiots in Ukip’s leadership team be considered suitable for any position in Governance when their entire policy seems to revolve around policies and clever weezes dreamed up on the spur of the moment and endless ill thought out band wagon jumping is no substitute for gravitas, reliability and responsible intelligent planning.
After 21 years with the core policy of Leave_The_EU neither Nigel Farage nor Ukip in general have managed to provide a credible, honourable and ethical exit and survival strategy – little wonder they lost their last representative MP at Westminster so rapidly when Bob Spink saw through the smoke and mirrors and comic behaviour of Ukip’s leadership to its core of racism, anti homosexuality and criminal corruption.
Little wonder Ukip after 21 years has but a miniscule spattering of Councillors and that includes the all but irrelevant Town & Local Councillors and absolutely no one within so much as a sniff of election in a General Election as they pin their desperate hopes on a Tory turncoat hanging onto his seat in a by election!
Like Alex Salmond in Scotland Ukip is desperately trying to enrich and empower itself without any credible structure or plan, dependent on stirring up fear and hatred amongst the least well educated and those who feel dispossessed by the relentless march of modern life and the unarguable effects of the global increase in population, communications, mobility and technology hand in hand with undeniable increases in temperature and changes of weather patterns that this planet has always been at the mercy of as our local star pulsates on what seems to be a cyclical basis over the eons!
I note today a Ukip press release written for Jill Seymour that endeavours to make much of the efforts of Staffordshire to ring fence expenditure for its cancer patients and end of life patients – yet as ever with Ukip they capitalise on criticism funded by the public purse but have, like Alex Salmond, no plan B.
For those interested in the subject of cancer care, the NHS and end of life care may I suggest you CLICK HERE for some FACTS! I suggest Jill Seymour reads this too before letting Ukip write more press releases for her!
Hi,
further to my article explaining why Clacton is so perfect a constituency for Ukip at CLICK HERE Matthew Parris clarifies the point showing just how dispossessed the electorate of Clacton are and just how this plays into the hands of those who depend on stirring up fears, hatred and failure amongst the less well educated to feed on that negative energy and dupe the people into believing that they have the answers when all they have is simple presentations and jingo bereft of vision – dreams of ephemeral transiency without substance best sold to those least able to critique or constructively analyse the lack of solid data in the glitzy sales pitch of such as Farage and his cult following in Ukip who like the YES campaigners of Alex Salmond in Scotland increasingly expose their vile bullying and abuse as their desperation for glory and greed for power becomes more transparent.
Tories should turn their backs on Clacton
The seaside town represents a Britain that’s going nowhere. The future belongs to places with more ambition and drive
At Stratford railway station in East London they’re a bit sheepish about the line to Clacton-on-Sea. Directed to platform 10a, the intending passenger easily finds platform 10; but of 10a there is no trace. It transpires that 10a is elsewhere, down a staircase at the far end of the platform. On 10a there are no train indicators and no staff. But you may just spot a “Clacton” sign on the train as it pulls in.
By the time you get to Clacton, most passengers have fled at intermediate stops. You walk almost alone through a well-kept station built for busier times, past a tidy canteen with a good range of meat pies at £1.50, and past a welcome-to-Clacton artwork constructed sweetly of glazed tiles picturing the resort. A red plastic litter-bin is prominent in the composition.
This is not a dirty or un-self-respecting town. Evidence of local pride and municipal effort is everywhere. The pier and the Princes Theatre struggle gamely on. On September 14 they welcome Ken Dodd and his Diamond Anniversary Happiness Show; later, Nights on Broadway with a group called the Bee Gees Story.
I met nothing but helpfulness there. Clacton-on-Sea is a friendly resort trying not to die, inhabited by friendly people trying not to die. Clacton is the constituency in England and Wales with the highest proportion of retired residents, almost the lowest proportion of residents aged 25-44 and the highest proportion of single elderly person households.
These are not wealthy retired professionals (almost 40 per cent of residents have no qualifications at all) and if you associate tattoos with youth, Clacton will surprise you. Father Time is busy with his scythe here: I counted 19 estate agents on Station Road, and you can get a three-bedroom detached bungalow for £94,995.
Only in Asmara after Eritrea’s bloody war have I encountered a greater proportion of citizens on crutches or in wheelchairs.
Shops tell you so much. Though at Burton’s they are offering “Free shoes when you buy a suit! (from £99)”, Lycra is the textile of choice and I saw not a single woman under 70 in a skirt, still less a dress. I was able to stock up on reading glasses at £1.99, and in Holland & Barrett the “Serious Mass Muscle Gainer” came in bucket-sized black plastic tubs at the checkout for the impulse purchaser. There are ten tattoo parlours and no Waterstones.
Enough. Don’t buy the too-easy media picture of a rancid or untended town, or of bitter people; but understand that Clacton-on-Sea is going nowhere. Its voters are going nowhere, it’s rather sad, and there’s nothing more to say. This is Britain on crutches. This is tracksuit-and-trainers Britain, tattoo-parlour Britain, all-our-yesterdays Britain.
So of course Ukip will do well in the by-election. Pollsters say they’ll win easily, though I found the Tories (busily repainting their constituency office) in defiant mood, and I do wonder if Douglas Carswell’s self-portrait as Man of Honour and Genius will entirely survive the campaign.
My aim, though, is not to deny Ukip its likelihood of victory. They make a good fit for Clacton. Somebody has to represent the static caravans and holiday villages, and the people and places that for no fault of their own are not getting where a 21st-century Britain needs to be going.
Nor do I deny that we Conservatives, if we tried hard enough, could get some of these voters back. There are many in a place like this who might be attracted again to the Tories by a noisy display of hostility towards immigration-and-Europe, political correctness and health-and-safety: hostility to a Britain that has forgotten the joys of Ken Dodd, meat pies, smoking in pubs and the Bee Gees.
No, my aim is to ask this: is that where the Conservative party wants to be? Is it where the Tories need to be if they’re to gather momentum in this century, rather than slowly lose it? Or do we need to be with the Britain that has its career prospects ahead and not behind, that can admire immigrants and want them with us, that doesn’t want to spend its days buying scratchcards and its evenings smoking in pubs, that’s amazed at all the fuss about whether gays should marry, that travels in Europe and would hesitate to let those links go?
I am not arguing that we should be careless of the needs of struggling people and places such as Clacton. But I am arguing — if I am honest — that we should be careless of their opinions.
A besetting sin of democratic politics is that party politicians, like religious evangelists, must seek clients. The weak, the unlucky, the resentful, the fearful, the old and the poor will always be the easiest to enlist as clients, for they have nowhere else to go but into the arms of politicians promising them sympathy.
It’s harder for politicians and priests to enlist successful people, busy people, people who want to go places, because these people are less likely to be looking for the crutches — practical or moral — that politics or religion can offer. So, often without meaning to, a political party seeking not only votes but self-affirmation is drawn towards a town called Hopeless.
This is the terrible, I would say fatal, mistake that the left made in the 20th century with Christian Socialism. Marxian Socialism is about success, not failure, and elevates achievement, not suffering. But the British left lost its way and ended up with the politics of victimhood, subsidy and the soup kitchen.
When Tory canvassers describe as “good areas” the streets where support is strong, they mean “good” in both its senses. But for Labour canvassers their good areas are the bad areas. Ukip, if it prospers, will find the same. More and more, their hopes will lie in Lycra not tweed.
Some of the Tory right want to drag the Conservative party the same way: to invest our political future in the disappointed, the angry, the nostalgic and the fearful. This is not a crazy strategy, because the market in pessimism is easy to capture, and easier to hold on to than the market in optimism; there will always be millions of pessimists.
But the truth from which the right hides is this: you cannot have both. You cannot look like a party for the resentful and still appeal to the cheerful. If you want to win Cambridge you may have to let go of Clacton.
From the train leaving Stratford at platform 10a, you can see Canary Wharf, humming with a sense of the possible. You must turn your back on that if you want to go to Clacton. I don’t, and the Tories shouldn’t.
To view the original article see today’s Times {Now hidden behind a paywall on the internet!}
Dr. Tim Stanley the historian who specialises in the history of America with a new book on Hollywood coming out next May has made some prescient points on Mathew Parris’ smug self satisfaction, right as he may well have been.
The academic Tim Stanley in his immaturity of genuine experience has of course over simplified and taken issue with Parris on the wording Parris presented wherein Parris talks of the people of Clacton as some sort of ‘working class’ seemingly unwilling to go that extra step and talk of the ‘dispossessed’ who have, largely due to educational failure, failed to keep up with society and its changes and technology. That this body of dispossessed may well be decent folk they are no less an easy group to bestir and are those self same people on whom Adolf Hitler built his power base just as Alex Salmond has done in Scotland and Nigel farage is currently doing south of the tartan curtain.
Irresponsibly building on the fears of these people, with no real working solution, is all too easy as Farage has shown with his endless band wagon jumping soft racism and hard core failure to provide a realistic and responsible, let alone honourable, exit and survival strategy. Being rude to those in authority has always been an easy route to the support of those who know they have no hope of ever being amongst tghat elite and it is essential that such as Alex Salmond ensures his following never get wind of his diletante interests and art collection just as despite his intake of fine wines and self indulgence in excellent restaurants Farage ensures his PR photos are of him ostensibly swilling yet another pint of beer along with the chavvery in the pub ‘fag’ in hand:
Dear Matthew Parris: if the Tories abandon the working class to Ukip, they will deserve to lose 2015
I’m writing this blog at midnight: the angry hour. The hour when you’re only awake because you’ve spotted something that infuriates you and – damn it – you have to put every furious thought down. They teach this process in anger management, apparently. Talk through what went wrong from beginning to end and maybe it’ll all make sense.
What went wrong is that Matthew Parris wrote an article for The Times. A very ugly article indeed. He took a trip to Clacton, the seat being contested in a by-election by Tory/Ukip defector Douglas Carswell, and Matthew was not impressed by what he found. He found a bit of Britain that isn’t London.
By the time you get to Clacton, most passengers have fled at intermediate stops. You walk almost alone through a well-kept station built for busier times, past a tidy canteen with a good range of meat pies at £1.50, and past a welcome-to-Clacton artwork constructed sweetly of glazed tiles picturing the resort. A red plastic litter-bin is prominent in the composition.
Yes, it sounds like Hell, Matthew. Not a Starbucks in sight – and car parking spaces that would barely fit a limousine. How our intrepid reporter coped with the natives I cannot say, although it’s quite obvious that he didn’t like them. Really, his language is shockingly rude about people who are – lest we forget – human beings.
Clacton-on-Sea is a friendly resort trying not to die, inhabited by friendly people trying not to die… These are not wealthy retired professionals (almost 40 per cent of residents have no qualifications at all) and if you associate tattoos with youth, Clacton will surprise you. Father Time is busy with his scythe here: I counted 19 estate agents on Station Road, and you can get a three-bedroom detached bungalow for £94,995. Only in Asmara after Eritrea’s bloody war have I encountered a greater proportion of citizens on crutches or in wheelchairs.
The conclusion to all this nastiness? That the Conservatives should abandon Clacton to the Neolithic Ukippers and reach out instead to aspirant urban middle-classes and hard-working immigrants (because anyone who pays less that £1 million for their house has clearly not been working very hard all their life – the peasants).
“I am not arguing,” argues Matthew, “that we should be careless of the needs of struggling people and places such as Clacton. But I am arguing — if I am honest — that we should be careless of their opinions.” So, yes, he is saying that the Tories should be careless of their needs. Because what they need is what they ask for – respect. And Mr Parris can’t bring himself to give that to tattooed simpletons on crutches.
Why am I so angry about all of this? For philosophical and personal reasons. Philosophically, I cannot see that Matthew is a democrat if he thinks national leaders should dismiss an entire class and its opinions. I cannot see that he is a patriot if he dislikes his own people so much. And I cannot see that he is a Tory if he does not feel a responsibility to serve them. After all, the essence of Toryism is to seek to assist all the people regardless of background. It is the Left traditionally that separates people by sectional interest – the desire to become “the masters now”. By contrast, the One Nation Tory tradition seeks to forge a spirit of national community that promises aspiration and compassion for all. Even Margaret Thatcher – yes, Margaret Thatcher – did that. After all, she let those working class people buy their own houses, never privatised the NHS and united the nation in liberating the Falklands. To be a Tory, at its best, is to serve. Not to dismiss and ignore. Conservatism stripped of compassion is just nasty social Darwinism.
And Matthew’s column grinds my gears on a personal level because I, too am “ordinary”. I know the kind of people he’s describing; there are a lot of them in my family. And although I may have grown up into something that could perhaps be described as “exotic”, I’ve retained a deep love of the ordinary. I love seaside towns like Clacton: the piers, the fish’n’chips, the crappy shows (more impersonators of the Bee Gees than there were Bee Gees), the fag ash, the “family tattoo emporiums”, the loud families, the tired old gramps falling asleep on the bench, beer in plastic cups and merry-go-rounds that electrically hum Black Lace classics. It might not be pretty by 5 star London standards – but it’s Britain. Those people who Matthew dismisses built this country. They have survived world wars, recessions, depressions and 16 Eurovision humiliations in a row. They are indomitable – and no Westminster bureaucrats or clever-clogs writers will ever change them. I love them. I love them because I have to as a Christian and I want to as a fellow Briton. We are family. And you don’t turn your back on family.
Matthew seems to imagine that he’s handing out sage advice to David Cameron about how to build a Tory majority, but he’s dead wrong. On the contrary, columns like this suggest to people from my background what they’ve always suspected: that Tories are laughing at them. By and large that isn’t true, but Matthew has come to represent a segment of liberal opinion that defines itself by a perceived superiority to everyone else. And if David Cameron follows that strategy at the next election, he’ll be left with just one segment of the population enthusiastically backing him: Matthew Parris.
Now it’s 12.50am and I must go back to sleep, if I can. I’m still very, very angry. I may well be so for some time.
But I do contend that Matthew Parris most clearly out maneuvers the notably light weight Tim Stanley’s all too simplistic rush to self publicity, with his regular column in The Times:
A Tory schism is now all but inevitable
Douglas Carswell’s defection is part of a strategy to scupper the EU referendum and take over the Conservative party
Never trust a man in love with his own probity. On the BBC yesterday morning Douglas Carswell made three references to himself as “honourable” within 35 seconds. “Putting my principles on the table,” he has claimed. The language should arouse immediate suspicion.
Ignore the weekend’s cooings about Mr Carswell: “honourable man”, “intellect”, “man of principle”, “no ordinary rebel”, etc. Just consider what he has done. Here is a politician who, to get himself elected, wrapped himself in the mantle of the Conservative party, spent years at Westminster undermining the Conservative party and now renounces his party at a moment chosen to inflict maximum injury.
Yet he brays about his principles while admirers gush about his intellect. Where is the principle, where is the intellectual integrity, where is the honour in this? Mr Carswell professes shock that David Cameron hopes to negotiate a European deal that can be recommended to the British people. What other kind of deal does he think a prime minister should aim for?
Mr Cameron never did claim that he wanted to leave the EU. But if the Conservative party has changed at all since Mr Carswell last flew its colours in 2010, it has grown more Eurosceptic, not less.
He is one of those characters who sometimes briefly thrives in the thin soil of Commons philosophising — a stupid person’s thinking person with a gift for making shallow oversimplifications sound wondrously deep. He will find it a sullying business being Ukip’s philosopher king to the man on the Clacton omnibus.
He calls himself a libertarian — and joins a party the limits of whose libertarianism would be to allow smoking in pubs (and, for all I know, bear baiting) on the grounds of personal freedom. He will tire of playing king of the kids for Ukip, and they will tire of him — as happened to Enoch Powell after his defection to the Ulster Unionists.
So much for the man himself. But to scorn the individual is not to trivialise the damage he can do. The damage could be immense. The campaign by the ultras on the Tory right to wreck then remake their party is well on track.
There is a decent chance that Mr Carswell will win his by-election and some possibility that a couple of other Conservative zealots may try to follow him. A “Ukip surge” and the momentum that could be created by a series of awful by-election results for Tories in the months before a general election could be grave. Mr Carswell’s move will hearten 30 or more Conservative MPs on the party’s right; they are with him in spirit already and are waiting for their moment. I fear that moment will come.
Ukip and the Tory irreconcilables are perfectly relaxed about the possibility that Mr Cameron could lose the next election; they do not want the EU referendum that would follow his victory. They want the present Tory leadership to stumble and fall, and, from the internal battle that would follow, they see the emergence of a new kind of party led by a new kind of leader from the anti-European right.
My fellow columnist Tim Montgomerie could not have been more wrong when he wrote in yesterday’s Times Red Box blog that “Ukip voters don’t believe that the Tory leader is serious about the referendum”. The “let’s-get-out-now” brigade in British politics have a very different fear. They fear that Mr Cameron would indeed hold his referendum and win it.
Accordingly they will do all they can to derail this referendum; and they know that if Mr Cameron gets his mandate in next year’s general election, this will be hard to do. They therefore aim to derail the Tory campaign, starting now.
It’s no good us moderates bleating that this could only lead to a Labour victory and no referendum. The right know that. And if a Labour victory (which they believe would be short-lived) is the price that has to be paid for their take-over of the Conservative party, then many would be content to pay it. Their eyes are fixed on the longer view.
I hope, but cannot be confident, that we can stop them. The seismology of British politics awaits a major quake. Ukip and the Tory right aim to trigger this quake. From the rubble they believe a party of the right that looks very like themselves will emerge. The more liberal and centrist Tories, they think, could make common cause with some Liberal Democrats and even Blairite Labour politicians. Their ultimate aim, then, is for Ukip and the Tories to merge under the banner of a new Conservative party.
This is a logical, if odious, plan. It may prove achievable. But it’s not a plan that — for all their bluster about honour and principle — the irreconcilables dare admit to. So they will continue to protest their loyalty but moan about Mr Cameron’s weaknesses, casting him — he whose personal ratings are well ahead of their party’s — as the problem and remaining ready with the sly shin kick or the sudden access of personal conscience whenever Tory fortunes seem to be rising. Mr Carswell’s “principled” resignation is part of that strategy.
I now see schism in the Conservative party as all but inevitable, whether in government after 2015 or out. Perhaps it will be healthy for democracy. There are plenty of nutters out there and maybe the nutters do need a party to represent them, though the slow-dawning disappointment that awaits the Tory right in the coming decades is that there will never be quite enough nutters to form a government.
For the rest of us Conservatives there emerges just one imperative, and Douglas Carswell’s departure should fix it in our minds. We must have nothing to do with these people. No concessions to Ukip, no more rightward creep, no fluttering of eyelashes and no dogwhistled calls for anyone to come back. These people don’t want a compromise — Mr Cameron has already thrown them too much meat — and the more you give them, the more they’ll demand.
Douglas Carswell’s departure is an early warning of what may be to come. So now is the moment to dig in. If a schism is coming, we moderates must draw our own battle lines. And about this there must be no question: we aren’t shifting. We, the old, battered, wary, pragmatic, often-compromised, one-nation Conservative party, are the Tories. If divorce looms we must make sure the breakaway zealots don’t get the house, the car, the company, the client list, the trademark or the brand.
So I finish as I started, with this message to Mr Carswell and his crew. Go to Ukip by all means. And stay there.
You may well consider reading up on my earlier take on this issue of the division of the Tories as it seems Stuart Wheeler sees it, by placing Douglas Carswell in a position to ensure Ukip is more acceptable to Tory EUrosceptics so that Boris Johnson can fracture the Tories and bring the two together distanced from the overburden of baggage brought to the union of the two parties without Farage or his ego and insecurities at CLICK HERE
