.

Hi,

it seems Ukip’s collapse is now inevitable after their abject failure in the Stoke by-election despite squandering £99,000 on a hopeless, hapless and risible candidate – that Ukip’s leaders sequentially resigned and their candidates dropped out, with the loss of their primary backer and donations in collapse with no credible leader and their only MP, the turncoat Tory, defecting and Mark Reckless, Douglas Carswell and a slew of councillors defecting or standing down we now see Ukip’s contention for seats in the upcoming May election in freefall.

Ukip’s challenge for seats in May is down below half the numbers they contested last time, in fact their challenge has fallen behind even that of the implausible, near leaderless and largely discreditted Greens!

In real terms with Ukip ever more a political joke it is time for them to try to take the high ground in the pretence that they delivered BreXit, a contention which does not sustain much scruting, their claim would be less challenged if they withdrew from politics having largely failed in domestic policies before they become yet more of a laughing stock, befouling what little credibility they can sustain amongst the gullible.

Of the some 19,000 electable offices in British politics at their high water mark under Nigel Farage’s control his party fell short of 200 office holders 150 of whom were councillors at various levels and one turncoat Tory was elected as an MP

bereft of Arron Banks’ ego and dubious funding and with the one man band leadership

dismantled

It seems likely that Ukip could well end up with around 50 council seats zero MPs and around half the MEPs they originally had elected after the May elections, with even Tim Farron’s risible little clique gaining greater credibility than Ukip.

Ukip Overtaken By Green Party In Number Of Council Seats Contested, New Figures Show

Further evidence of the party’s slow demise?

06/04/2017

UKIP will contest fewer council seats than the Green Party in the coming May elections in England, new figures have revealed.

In what critics will see as fresh evidence of the ‘post-Brexit vote blues’ for Paul Nuttall’s party, it will stand candidates in just 48% of wards, a dramatic slump from the 73% it fought just four years ago.

The Greens, in contrast, will put up candidates in 53.9% of wards, up significantly on their 37% showing in 2013.

Across all seats up for grabs in the County Councils, unitary authorities and Doncaster, the Tories and Labour are roughly at the same level of candidates this time around, final nomination papers have revealed.

The Conservatives will contest 96% of all seats, and Labour will contest 91%.

The Lib Dems – who last fought the elections while in coalition with the Tories at Westminster – have edged up from 74% to 80% in candidate selection.

Four years ago, Nigel Farage led UKIP to its best ever results in English council elections, winning 150 seats and a quarter of the votes in England and Wales.

But it is forecast to lose up to 90 seats in the new round of elections next month.

In just one snapshot of UKIP’s retreat, they have decided not to contest any of the four seats in Harlow in Essex, where they won at least 25% of the vote in each area in 2013.

In the New Forest they won two seats and are not defending either. In Cambridgeshire the party is fighting in only 21 out of 63 wards, in Warwickshire 17 of 57 and Oxfordshire 11 out of 63.

The figures, compiled by all the parties after nominations closed but released to HuffPost UK by Tory sources, follow a series of blows to UKIP’s national standing in recent months.

The party has been embroiled in several chaotic leadership contests since Nigel Farage decided to step down last summer.

They lost their only MP Douglas Carswell after he became an independent in the past week, and on Thursday another former Tory MP Mark Reckless announced he was switching his support to the Conservatives in the Welsh Assembly.

Party leader Nuttall came a poor second in the Stoke-on-Trent by-election, following a series of controversies over misleading claims on his website.

Green Party co-leaders Jonathan Bartley and Caroline Lucas

The party also dipped below double figures in national opinion polls and its big donor Arron Banks has announced he is funding a new campaign group, Patriotic Alliance.

After Brexit in 2019, the party will lose all its MEPs, like the other parties, and critics claim it will effectively have little reason to exist at all.

The Green Party, in contrast, has an MP in Caroline Lucas and has seen a surge in membership to 46,000 since 2015. It is due to launch its own council election campaign on Friday.

Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party, told HuffPost UK: “This is a pivotal moment and it’s time to pick a side.

“The Green Party is proud to be standing a record number of candidates in the local elections. From standing up for social care to standing against the Government’s extreme Brexit, Greens make a real difference when they are elected.

“It is no wonder we are already taking seats of UKIP. Vote Green to wipe the smile off UKIP’s face and send the message that Britain is bigger and better than the narrow country envisioned by Nuttall and his withering gang.”

It has 3 MEPs, one peer, six MSPs in Scotland, two London Assembly Members, two Assembly Members in Northern Ireland and 165 councillors.

They are also involved in balance of power governance arrangements on Stroud and Worcester councils.

The Greens came third twice in London elections in 2016 and 2012, as well as being the most popular party on second preferences in the London Mayoral elections last year.

The Greens have complained consistently that Farage and UKIP are given too much airtime on TV shows such as Question Time, given their relative lack of representation.

UKIP has been contacted for comment.

Hi,

UKIP’s Mark Reckless to join Conservatives in assembly

  • 6 April 2017

The South Wales East AM will sit as a Tory but will not join the party.

Conservative group leader Andrew RT Davies welcomed a “hard-working and dedicated” AM, saying it made his party the official opposition to Labour.

But Gower MP and ex-AM Byron Davies said allowing Mr Reckless into the group was “not a particularly bright idea”.

When questioned about Andrew RT Davies’ leadership of the Tory group on BBC Radio Wales, the Gower MP said “we have to live with that”.

With regard to how the Tory group should work with Mr Reckless, he said: “I would be very, very cautious about how they deal with him.”

Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns said: “Mark Reckless is not a member of the Conservative Party. There are absolutely no plans for him to become a member of the Conservative Party.”

A Conservative Party spokesman said: “Decisions about who sits with the Conservative group in the Welsh Assembly are a matter for the group in the Welsh Assembly.”

Andrew RT Davies and Mark Reckless

Image caption Andrew RT Davies says Mark Reckless joins a “strong and united team”

In a statement, Mr Reckless said he had been “thoroughly impressed by the performance and discipline of Andrew RT Davies and the Welsh Conservative group”.

He said Theresa May’s leadership as Prime Minister had been “exemplary” and that she had been “steadfast in her position to deliver on the wishes of the people of Wales and the United Kingdom” in relation to Brexit.

Assembly Presiding Officer Elin Jones said the former UKIP AM could be a member of the Conservative group.

Andrew RT Davies said Mr Reckless had “proven himself to be a hard-working and dedicated AM who has been an effective representative for the South East Wales region”.

“He will now be able to continue this work as part of a strong and united team which will be the official opposition in the assembly,” he added.

Mr Reckless told BBC Wales he knew there was still “bad blood” from the time he quit the Tories to join UKIP.

“It’s not for me to waltz back into the party with any sense of entitlement,” he said.

“I want to focus my efforts here with some humility.”

“He didn’t have the courtesy or the courage to speak to me about any doubts he had about his future in UKIP or what he might get from the Conservative Party,” he told BBC Wales.

“Fundamentally he was elected to the assembly not as Mark Reckless but as a UKIP candidate for the South East Wales region.

“He’s betrayed the trust of all of those who selected him in the first place to be a candidate and all of those who worked to get him elected to the assembly.

“He’s got no mandate to sit in the assembly as a member of the Conservative group.”

UKIP chairman Paul Oakden said it was “incumbent on Mark Reckless to relinquish a position he has only by virtue of a UKIP mandate”.

“The position should go to the next UKIP candidate on the regional list,” he said.

Image caption Nigel Farage welcomed Mark Reckless to the UKIP fold in 2014

Mr Reckless was Conservative MP for Rochester and Strood when he defected to UKIP in 2014.

He voluntarily quit the seat to fight and win it in a by-election for UKIP, but lost it at the 2015 general election.

There is no requirement under assembly rules for either regional or constituency AMs to stand down when they leave the party they were elected to represent.

Mr Reckless told BBC Wales he would “love to be able to put my decision to the electorate” as he did in 2014, but said assembly rules regarding members elected via a regional list prevented this.

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood said the changing arithmetic in the Senedd – with Plaid now the third-biggest party – would mean “very little in actual fact”.

She added: “We’ve got a strong team of assembly members all of whom are working very hard for the constituencies they represent, and for Plaid Cymru as a whole.

“We are putting the Welsh national interest at the top of the agenda at every opportunity. We might be a smaller team but we certainly are a very effective team.”

Analysis by BBC Wales political correspondent Tomos Livingstone

Normally the defection of a politician from one party to another prompts a stream of abuse from the member’s former home and the sound of champagne corks popping at their new abode.

There’s been plenty of the former from UKIP now that Mark Reckless has left, but not everyone in the Conservative Party is celebrating today’s development.

Mr Reckless made the opposite journey in 2014, and anger at that decision is still plain for all to see.

That’s why the South Wales East AM is going to be a Conservative AM, but not, rather oddly, a member of the Conservative Party.

Has Andrew RT Davies therefore performed a coup, defying the wishes of Welsh Conservative MPs who think he’s mis-read the party mood, and making his group the second-largest in the Senedd?

Or has he needlessly made some powerful enemies who might want to re-visit the whole affair in the weeks and months ahead?

This could be the beginning of the story rather than the end.

Hi,
a measure of just how attrociously badly led Ukip has been for many years is not just the obviouse realisation that even with Nigel Farage having quit as leader he is still controlling his party – but you will note the utter chaos of its NEC & their lack of competence – their fantasy pilot & his dating site con act of their Chairman Paul Oakden and not only is Nigel Farage’s closest aide under the custody of the FBI but it was Nigel Farage’s records that were seized when he and George Cottrell were together in America about to leave – after Cottrell’s bungled drug deal & efforts to blackmail and intimidate whilst they were there!
Then consider the party is broke with an overspend of £850,000 despite the massive value of bribes/(salaries & expenses) from the EU which runs to £Millions a year + the £Millions Farage receives as leader of the EFDD, and there have been no murmurs of his intention to resign frtom this comfy and well funded post.
Then consider that as a party that made much of being anti membership of the EU they spent a paultry £55,000 on supporting the Referendum and had done all they could to prevent the Petition organised by Nikki Sinclaire which had forced the debate to Leave-The-EU on David Cameron & incurred his first major rebellion that led him to include a promise of a finite IN/OUT Referendum in The Tory Manifesto at the last General Election!
Just where has all the money gone? It runs to many £Millions so Draw your own conclusions! In drawing your own conclusion you will note the paucity of donations from Ukip MEPs and staff reflected on the Electoral Commission’s roll of donors!

Accounts reveal Ukip ended last year £850,000 in deficit

The UK Independence Party ended last year more than £850,000 in deficit, according to its latest accounts that show how the party’s finances dwindled after the 2015 election and in the run-up to the referendum campaign.

The party spent £6.7m in the year, more than its £5.8m overall income, as the cost of the general election and a 4.5pc fall in membership numbers took its toll.

Ukip held onto one parliamentary seat in May 2015, as Douglas Carswell kept the constituency of Clacton. Mark Reckless lost his seat to the Conservatives, the party he left to join Ukip.

Donations overall fell 18pc to £4.4m last year and the party booked no revenue from its online shop, which generated £119,000 from selling Ukip merchandise in 2014, after it was hived off into a separate commercial entity.

Nigel Farage
Nigel Farage CREDIT: STEVE FINN

As a result of its deficit during the year, the party’s funds were £540,000 in the red, compared to a cash pile of £285,000 at the end of 2014.

Ukip recently appointed new chairman Paul Oakden as it looks to replace Nigel Farage as leader, in the wake of the vote for the UK to leave the European Union.

The six leadership candidates do not include Mr Carswell, who along with other parliamentary candidates spent £3.2m on election expenses during last year.

The party also spent £65,000 on membership fees for Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy, its political bloc within the European Parliament. During the year it also spent a mere £55,751 on referendum expenses, as Brexit-supporting campaigns such as Vote Leave and Leave.EU took a greater role in the debate.

UKIP Hit Puberty: Slam Doors, Shouts at Parents
Farage/Carswell Fall Out Semi-Denied By Party

Tim Aker is the latest victim of the internal UKIP power play: sacked as the party’s policy chief this morning. Or so the spin goes. Guido understands this is less to do with the time he spent on the manifesto and more to do with the continuing debate raging for the ideological life and soul of the party. Between being an MEP and duffing up Labour in Thurrock, it was only a matter of time before Aker stepped back from his party role, but only a fool would suggest he’s not still a serious player within the party.

Rumours also continue to swirl around the tetchy relationship between Nigel Farage and Douglas Carswell. Guido is told there has been something of a breakdown, with particular anger among UKIP top brass over Carswell’s recent off-message Mail on Sunday intervention describing his new party as “internationalist” and “inclusive”. Guido hears Farage believes that to be “Cameroon nonsense”. This piece written by Nick Wood, the former IDS spinner turned Farage-confident, has been circulated within party circles as the UKIP leader’s real opinion:

“Various BBC-type Aunt Sallies were erected only to be assailed by the heroic St Douglas. “We must stop insulting immigrants,” asserted the hair-shirted one. “Dislike of foreigners is not merely offensive, but absurd.” Various other Harmanesque pieties followed, including the laughable observation that there has never been anything splendid about isolation. How about May 1940 after the fall of Paris? Our “isolation” then proved the salvation of Western civilisation.”

Long-serving, more traditional, golf clubbing UKIP veterans are said to be “upset” by Carswell’s maverick modernising moves, and things are so bad that they sneeringly call him “that Tory” behind his back. Rumours of a split at the top are denied by Farage’s spokesman: “we all absolutely adore Douglas”. But when were they last seen together?

To which I respond, to add clarity, for those who may be a little out of touch with the Ukip ferrets as they continue their squabbling inside their sack – visibly tossing out dead ferrets and whilst consuming others to hide the evidence of how vicious the fight for control is!
Hi,

Ukip is neither big enough intellectually, nor has it adequate gravitas or vision, to contain the egos and ambitions of Nigel Farage, Reckwell & Carless (O’Flynn, Nuttall etc. etc.).

Ukip has been Nigel Farage’s private fiefdom ruled in an absolute and underhand manner for many years, more of a cult than a party, and for the party to grow and stand any chance of breaking through its own glass ceiling of populism; for some time the squabbling and fractures can be swept under the carpet, but will eventually lead to blood on the carpet from a knock down drag ’em out fight for control that will destroy the idea of being a political party of any consequence.

The waring factions have been hard at it since the days of Sked and clearly to date the Faragista cult has held the upper hand by ruthless centralisation and control that has seen 100s of good people leave CLICK HERE, which has greatly weakened the party concept to ensure Farage’s continued ascendancy, for more details read my blog and CLICK HERE.

The manner of the Carless/Reckwell departure will benight Ukip oncemore, but will it be before or after the election and will the investigation into Annabelle Fuller’s theft, under National Security, and her apparent lies about Andrew Bridgen expose the truth and involve Nigel Farage is a telling part of the equation!
For more details CLICK HERE

So far it would seem Farage has the upper hand, having forced Stuart Wheeler to break cover over his backing of Neil Hamilton and his support for Carswell as a new leader – seeking to befoul the party in the first instance and clear out the cult in the second!

The squabbling will continue and would seem to have cost Ukip the funding of both Stuart Wheeler and, to quote Farage’s nick name for him, The Yorkshire Dwarf!

This has led to the need to accept funding from various dubious sources as well documented, not least that of Richard Desmond who would seem to have converted his Express newspaper to being the in house comic for Ukip, where it was shown to be no more than a squalid rag by Patrick O’Flynn’s prostitution of the paper to satiate his ambitions as an MEP leading another of Ukip’s waring factions!

Hey ho – may you live in interesting times, but sadly this greatly destabilises British politics and makes the possibility of Leaving_The_EU in any foreseable time frame less likely due in the main to Ukip’s pursuit of personal glory for one cult or the other!

Hi,
with a hat tip to Guido!

More Ukip Problems Due To Reckless Abandonment, as the Rochester & Strood Tory Constituency has a fit of pique & fail to come to terms with rejection!

Now they seek to sue Mark reckless for his defection to Ukip, though as there is no actual contract nor guarantee that an MP will continue to believe their best interests will continue to be served and may even in some rare cases believe their constituency may best be serviced by either their resignation or defection to another party.

Frankly I believe the Tories are throwing good money after bad in this case as in legal terms I can not see they have a leg to stand on – but let them have their day in Court. I am astonished Tory Head Office did not give better advice!

Untrustworthy turncoat Mark Reckless may be but I fail to see that Justice would be seen to be served were this be considered a crime leading to conviction!

“The practice of sport is a human right!. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.” –Olympic Charter
There are times when it is reasonable to believe ‘Sport’ is not so much a right but an obligation by diktat!
However boring you may find sport: there are many who derive great vicarious pleasure from watching it – Particularly Women’s Beach Volleyball & Women’s Gymnastics; some even enjoy being a part of a baying mob at football games!

Hi,

EUReferendum

Saturday 22 November 2014

000a Out-021 EU.jpg

A weary few days and some miracle-working by North Jr and friends has got us back online (with the forum and other tweaks to follow when we can), after a series of massive DDOS attacks. So focussed and relentless were the attacks that we conclude that they were directed specifically at EUReferendum, with a view to taking us out of circulation.

Against that and the added stress of extremely arduous day jobbing, the election of a second-rate politician seemed very minor. And, in the grander scheme of things, it was indeed a minor event. In six months, it will be distant memory, as indeed will Reckless the Repatriater, who will have faded into the obscurity he justly deserves.

Of current interest, though, is the fallout, which has the Daily Mail reporting that Conservative MPs are calling for David Cameron to toughen his stance on the EU.

The newspaper is asserting that the way to “take the legs from under Farage” is for the prime minister to campaign for an “out” vote. That is an obvious line to take except that it suffers the obvious flaw. Those unwilling to believe Mr Cameron’s promise for a referendum are just as likely to disbelieve any commitment to fight against EU membership.

What might deal a death blow to Farage’s ambitions, however, is the double whammy of explaining to the voting public that his party has no idea of how to manage our departure from the EU (and no capability in that respect) while simultaneously demonstrating that a workable plan does exist and can be implemented quickly and easily, to the very great advantage of the UK.

This, in my view, is what is needed to transform the debate. Having long accepted the need to leave the EU – for any number of reasons – I no longer wish to endure the tedium of the continuous tales of woe on how badly we are treated by the Barons of Brussels.

Rather, I am in the market for some “sunlit uplands”, the very thing Mr Farage and his dysfunctional acolytes have no means of bringing us. His shambolic party is set to deliver the only thing of which Ukip is capable –  its own brand of discordant negativity. It will never achieve anything but chaos and disruption.

In order to defeat Ukip, what the Conservatives need to realise is you don’t fight a negative with a negative. The only thing that cancels out a negative is a positive. All Farage’s party can do is tell us how bad it is inside the EU. The Conservatives need to tell us how good it is on the outside.

That, in fact, is quite difficult to do. Any fool can tell us that we need to leave – very few people can come of with a credible, structured plan for making it happen. And as this is a task quite beyond the capabilities of Ukip, and neither Labour nor the Lib-Dems have any intentions of filling the void, this leaves the field wide open to the Conservatives.

This is why the next few days and weeks are going to be increasingly interesting. Gradually, there is a realisation emerging that the need to get out of the EU is only a tiny part of the equation – the easy bit that even the febrile minds of Ukip supporters can grasp. It is how we get out that matters more. Unless a safe exit can be assured, it is never going to happen.

Once it is evident that the feat can be done, though, it is much more likely that it will then happen. Thus, the realisation that we need an exit plan may be one of the most enduring effects of this period. Knowledgeable commentators will then see the pressure to withdraw as a child of the time. Others will try to link unrelated events, and argue cause and effect.

What we are seeing, though, are effects with common causes. Some have taken the cul-de-sac towards Ukip while the more enlightened are looking for the way to the sunlit uplands. The reasons for those actions are deep-rooted and do not lie in recent events. But the outcome is not to be denied – it was going to happen sooner of later. And even if later, that is better than not at all.

Richard North
22/11/2014

I am inclined to totally agree with this post of Richard’s which concurs with all that I have learned over many years and in very many countries around the world – any fool can knock the status quo and find support amongst the struggling lower middle classes (used to be working class until the invention of Mr. Biro replaced the pick and the shovel of yester year for many!), and also the support of the failed amongst the working classes (those not gainfully employed or who have outbred their capacity for self support!).

Indeed Nigel Farage’s clique and its claque have tapped into this very successfully as did Alex Salmond in Scotland, Francisco Franco in Spain, Adolf Hitler in Germany and many others in their respective times and countries.

You will note all made an issue of simplistic denigration of the existing Governance, highlighted problems and built on them without workable remedies and found a sector of the community to blame be that the Jews in Nazi Germany, the bankers for the Labour party and EU or immigrants for Farage’s ill informed supporters.

NONE of the examples I have quoted had any exampes of HOW to move forward being far too rooted in destructive nihilism as they tried to tear down structures that showed how small was their intellectual structure and vision rather than building an intellectual power base that rose above the present situation, showing why the alternative they offered was better and more importantly how to achieve their promised ‘Nirvana’.

Allthough it seems Richard North feels constrained by modesty (not too typical of him 😉 – I note he fails to put forward his methodology for obtaining those sunny uplands) may I therefore suggest all who read this will find a detailed study of >FleXcit< of great value – you will find a link to >FleXcit< in the right sidebar of this web site.

I regret it would seem that in Britain The Tories, divorced as they would seem to be from either the ethics or the patriotism they formwerly represented, are the only party that shows ANY possibility of moving forward all be it haltingly as they recognise increasingly before a referendum AS PROMISE, unlike relative to the New EU Constitution which morphed into the name change to The Lisbon Treaty!

As I started to say – as they start to realise that the EU Treaties are now tablets of stone that can not be viably improved due to the requirement for unanimity of opinion amongst approaching 30 very different regions (formerly Nation States) who are both its vassals and its members! SDome seeking to reduce the subsidies they fund the scam with whilst the majority seek to survive on the malign handouts generated by those self same subsidies.

The EU is like a family with over 20 children where regardless of the needs and incomes of the parents and few viable working members  has surrende3red control of how much pocket money the majority of the least responsible children get is defined by those very children that would benefit – all too like the Labour Party economic illiteracy we saw in the 13 unlucky years of their catastrophic rule, where the Governance was controlled by a collection of criminal scoundrels seeking their own enrichment and aggrandisement all be it by bankrupting the country and undeniable war crimes and crimes against humanity!

Hi,
let us not forget that with the approval of its NEC, MEPs and Glorious Leaderr, Nigel Farage not only commended Ukip’s 2010 Manifesto, going so far as to write its forward and give it his personal impramature praising David Bannerman for having put together such a comprehensive publication.
There was nor so much as a bleat from the sheep he controls with some of the most unpleasant and dishonest sheep dogs Britain has ever seen in modern politics.
Yet expediency has now led him to denounce his own protege as ‘drivel’ and pretend he had no idea what was in it ‘I never read it’! Can one take as serious a political party that is so incredibly irresponsible merely on the fact that itsonly recognised salesman and undeniable authoritarion controller seems not to be able to hold a thought in his brain beyond his 3 set speeches and todays 90 second sound bite.

000a Guardian-013 Farage.jpg

Mark Reckless is set to win next week’s Rochester & Strood by-election with a lead of 12 percent, a poll commissioned by Lord Ashcroft suggests. Ukip gets 44 percent, the Conservatives 32, Labour 17 and the Lib-Dems a mere two percent.

However, only 72 percent of those intending to vote for Ukip next Thursday are likely to repeat the experience in May, leading to suggestions that the Conservatives will retake the seat at the general.

That much would be par for the course. It is not uncommon for by-election wins to be reversed once the drama of the special circumstances have abated, so it is quite possible that Mr Reckless’s new-found career as a Ukip MP might be short-lived.

However, there is another reason, aside from Lord Ashcroft’s poll, and it is one which may well have more general effect, possibly helping to bring crash the Ukip effect altogether. Such would be a much overdue corrective to a situation that has fed on the disintegration of classic party politics, which are becoming weirder by the day.

Predictions in this game – especially as to timing – are always fraught, but what is of special interest is this article in the Guardian, which takes apart Farage, in particular, and Ukip in general, over the inconsistencies in their policy statements.

We’ve been long convinced that these inconsistencies are Ukip’s Achilles’ heel, and our Pete has been doing a heroic job over at Complete Bastard analysing the increasingly dysfunctional mindset. But, while real Conservatives can beat Ukip where they are weakest, in coming up with sensible policies, what the Guardian has “discovered” for itself could be a game-changer for the “Left”.

Moving on from what Ukipists would call “smears”, the newspaper is now recognised that it has a bottomless well, one which will provide an inexhaustible supply of material to fuel attack copy for as long as there any point in publishing it.

And with the Guardian discovering the motherlode, the BBC can’t be far behind and then, as the Tory tribalism kicks in with the onset of the general election campaign, we may well see the “Right” take turns to capitalise on this weakness.

Parties and politicians can stand most things, especially when they are on the ascendancy, but the one thing that is always damaging is ridicule. And Ukipists have been laying down material for so long now that it would be positively uncharitable not to mine it.

How can one possibly resist the entertainment value of Farage proselytising on an insurance funded health service, only for a spokesman now to say of his opinion, “Obviously things have moved on significantly since then. That was then and this is now. It doesn’t stand up to say that’s still his view”. That, of course, it this week … next week is an altogether different matter.

Sadly for the party, there is no prospect of a cure for this policy incontinence. The die has already been cast. UKIP has been all over the place for so long that virtually any new material is almost bound to provide ammunition for an “inconsistency” meme. For instance, if anyone cares to look closely at their ideas for free trade and “Brexit”, there is endless scope for amusement.

For all that, the party cannot say it hasn’t been warned. Candid friends have for decades been telling it that its lack of coherent policy is a potentially terminal weakness, but since this has evoked defensiveness and and the tedious, if predictable hostility, few outside the party are prepared to do much more than stock up with the popcorn and wait for the train crash.

Maybe the party will defy all predictions and make it big-time at the general election, but Farage’s latest stunt on a “deal” with Miliband is nothing if not spectacularly ill-timed, and bodes ill for the future. He is shackling himself to the rotting corpse of a failing party leader, as Miliband polls only 13 percent in the leadership stakes.

Nothing on the other hand, is calculated to build confidence in the Conservatives as the alternatives, but with the Scottish Labour Party in a state of collapse and the polls tilting in favour of Mr Cameron’s party, three points ahead of Labour, the only thing that looks capable of stopping them now is Ukip.

When people look at Miliband, they obviously have serious difficulty thinking of him as a prime minister, and with Farage and his train-wreck policies behind him, the Conservatives are struggling to avoid looking an attractive electoral proposition. How ironic it would be if making that so was Farage’s lasting gift to politics.

Ukip’s Rochester & Strood by  election candidate the Tory turncoat Mark Reckless’s Reckless Casual Racism

Hi,
I aimed to write of this obscene comment by the turncoat Tory Mark Reckless who is now standing for Ukip, with much expectation of election, in the Rochester & Strood constituency by-election.
In the light of Mark Reckless’ latest ill considered racist remark as detailed, I incline to believe that with an upcoming General Election the Conservatives must be relieved they let him go and he can befoul the reputation of Ukip rather than the Tories!
Having lost my telephone and broadband connection from Sunday evening until late yesterday afternoon, due to the antiquated aluminium cables in my local exchange, I have been struggling to catch up with the follies of Ukip & bringing them to the attention of readers and the media – I therefore have no qualms in dealing with Mark Reckless’ crass and casual racism by copying / Guest Posting an article from another blogger on the subject, with which I largely agree, to assist you in keeping abreast of facts pertaining to Ukip.
>GUEST POST<:

Thursday 6 November 2014

000a Inde-006 Reckless.jpg

Spread throughout several newspapers today are the comments from Mark Reckless, former Conservative MP and now UKIP candidate for the Rochester and Strood by-election.

At a rally in the Kent constituency, Reckless – by name and nature it would seem – referred to the growing numbers of migrants trying to make the dangerous voyage across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. “Whatever people say about Gaddafi”, he remarked, “one thing is he didn’t allow those boats to come across”.

“He had an agreement with Italy that stopped it. Since he’s gone we have no idea what’s going on in Libya, it’s too dangerous for anyone to go there”, he added.

According to the Mail, these remarks are being compared to the famous last excuse for Fascism, “say what you like about Mussolini, he made the trains on time”. But they are far, far worse than that comparison would imply. They are more like applauding Hitler for keeping Jews out of Britain by putting them in the camps – for that is precisely what Gaddafi was doing with migrants passing through his territory – with the complicity of the EU.

Parallels are in many ways absolute. Huge volumes of well-founded evidence, not least from Amnesty, the Global Detention Project and Human Rights Watch attest to the fact that Gaddafi set up many death camps where immigrants were unlawfully detained, tortured and murdered. Many others were trucked into the Sahara and abandoned without food and water.

Altogether, the Gaddafi regime was responsible for the deaths of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of migrants. Yet – despite that – Italy in 2008 concluded a “Friendship Agreement” which had Gadaffi agreeing to step up border controls and to take back “expelled foreigners” from Italy, all in exchange for Italy agreeing to provide Libya $5 billion in infrastructure projects over 25 years.

Italy was already paying for charter flights for Libya to send the people “home”, and had between August 2003 and December 2004 transported 5,668 people to Libya, despite known human rights abuses.

On the back of the agreement, in May 2009, Libya and Italy also launched joint naval patrols in Libyan territorial waters for an initial period of three years, the controversial practice of “push-backs” (respingimento) which was subsequently condemned as breaching human rights law.

Thus, while no one is going to argue with Reckless’s general theses that things are no better in Libya now, after western intervention, to applaud a dictator for his human rights abuses is not the most sensible thing for a politician to do – unless, of course, he represents UKIP.

Enter now Mr Farage who was given the opportunity to implement a deft piece of damage limitation, only for him to agree with Reckless (and incidentally support EU policy), bemoaning the removal of somebody, “albeit an Arab nationalist dictator, who actually gave a level of stability to the area”.

Thus we have senior UKIP politicians applauding a dictator’s use of death camps – a means of immigration control which clearly has the approval of Messrs Reckless and Farage. And with that, it is perhaps unsurprising that UKIP is reluctant to commit its policy to writing – unless, of course, it is waiting for the translation from the original German.

Interestingly there are similarities between certain aspects of Gaddafi’s treatment of immigrants and the published policy of Ukip as shown in their official pamphlet on the subject published by the Ukip MEP Gerald Batten:

Hi,

as it becomes ever clearer, to the informed, that Ukip has ever more deeply significant problems beyond the sexual dalliances of its leadership in continental bordellos and employing wives and mistresses, whether past present or future, the divorce of buffoons like Roger Helmer are of little significance – with whom and where they sleep is like them, an irrelevance.

HELMER, Roger 02 - ASLEEP on The JOB 01

Clearly their much claimed populist positioning and mobilising of a ‘people’s army’ has all the ring of truth of scoundrels such as General Jackson, General Lord Dunat and others in trying to pretend that Britain’s folly of engagement by the self serving degenerate fool Tony Blair and the low grades he gathered around him trying to claim Britain’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan was other than a route, in militarty, political, economic and humanitarian terms.

Clearly it is not just Ukip tyhat is bereft of leadership and sound judgement.

Ukip however is being implausible before the even for even the poorly informed!

You will note the jingo of mobilising a ‘peoples’ army’, which has clearly stalled as shown by the failure of their Police Crime Commissioner candidate in South Yorkshire to get out any kind of vote let alone mobilise those who have not engaged politically in the past scoring a mere 4.7% of the votes of the electorate, albeit a gain on last time when Jonatyhan Arnot had a mere 16,000 or so votes, this time their candidate picked up a little by the increase of turnout from 14.5% to 14.9% and absorbing the votes of last time’s popular English Democrat candidate who did not stand this time.

Hardly mobilising a ‘peoples’ army’ though to be fair the winner with almost double the vote was the Labour candidate an Anglican priest teaching ethics at the local red brick Uni. with a meager 7.4% holding within a few hundred of the disgraced outgoing Labour incumbent; thus showing Ukip is not materially effecting Labour in their he\artlands.

Then much akin to the anti homosexual appearance of Roger Helmer’s comments and Ukip in general, particularly Nigel Farage and his close chum, at the time, Godfrey Bloom – as displayed by Nigel Farage openly denouncing Nikki Sinclaire, an openly declared homosexual subsequent to her gender reassignment, within hours of her being elected as one of his MEPs despite the fact that she went on to donate more of her own money to the Ukip cause in the following 4 montha than Farage himself has donated in 21 years!

Ukip saw a gap in the market – a new band wagon to jump on – and decided to try to increase their vote using the wide open goal and crowd from the now collapsed BNP looking for a new home by preaching a doctrine all too akin to the racist hate material published by their own MEP Gerard Batten to exploit the increase in mobility of people world wide resulting in a huge difficulty dealing with immigrants.

IMMIGRATION POLICY - EUkip 01One of Gerard Batten’s odious racist Ukip pamphlets

Ukip were dubiously backed not only by a few police officers of dubious integrity and questionable awsociates but also by a cult of extremist so called self proclaimed ‘christians’!

The mask is slipping! Part of Ukip’s propaganda was to claim that Britain was awash with immigrants but when you study the figures you find that this just isn’t true when compared witjh other countries – not wishjing to let the facts get in the way of an opportunity to make a shoddy case Ukip blamed the EU for this, yet as you will see from the facts in the chart below the argument is unsound:

EU IMMIGRATION 2014 - 01Just click on the charty for a larger version.

It is worth noting that Ukip champions the cause of leaving the EU, which is of course a sound policy, but to do so dishonestly is to cast their future to the wind!

Were Britain to Leave_The_EU it would not make a jot of difference to our immigrant levels and the fact they site Norway and Switzerland as exemplars shows how very ill informed and dishonest they are since both countries are not only outside of the EU but also have much higher levels of immigration than Britain.

To compound their folly Ukip suggest a role model of Australia as having a much better control of immigration yet where Britain currently has some 13% of our population who are immigrants Australia stands at 27%. Meanwhile although Ukip would seem to be deriving much support and attention from the opposition wing in America where interestingly it is shown to have nearly the identical immigration level to these United Kingdoms with 41M of its 313M peoples being immigrants, thus 13%!

Ukip’s dishonesty is increasingly being seen through, not to mention the3 vile nature of many in its leadership clique and its immediate claque.

One can expect Mark Reckless to be re-elected in the upcoming by election but for the life of me I see absolutely no precedent or track record of figures to show the protest vote stands any chance of seeing him hold his seat in the upcoming General Election – the turn of the wheel  when irt comes to actual achievement in Ukip to date shows that Ukip has little hope of gaining MPs at a General Election.

One may well seek to make much of their coming second in several by elections but the difference between 2nd. and 1st. is the difference between success and failure and if they are unable to produce winners in by elections with everything in their favour it seems clear that their sole achievement in a General election will be to ensure Britain NEVER leaves the EU, by destroying what little hope we have of a Referendum and compounding the catastrophe by placing Labour in Downing Street to continue the destruction of Britain they have resol;utely achieved in every other moment of folly where they were elected!

Let us hope the public wake from their somnambulent loss of faith in democracy and return to voting rather than leaving the vote to those jumping on ill informed populist band wagons.

Some reassurance may be found that although Ukip lay claim to 40,000 members they should remember at a time when the eligible electorate was far smaller Baronet Sir Oswald Moseley built up to 50,000, largely pandering to a working-class hooligan strain exploited subsequently by John Tyndall’s National Front in the 1970s in Britain, the same grouping that  Alex Salmond endeavoured to tap into in Scotland and Adolf Hitler had successfully exploited in Germany, yet in Britain as a whole Moseley spectacularly failed in electoral achievement as did Tyndall!

Clearly Ukip has failed in domestic elections to dateand without Tory turncoats and malcontents they would be as insignificant as their natural rivals in the English Defence League, Britain First, BNP, English Democrats, Greens and Monster Raving Loonies!

Ukip having spectacularly failed to come up with any plausible and costed serious policies in its 21 years, dismissing former efforts as soon as they are shown to be, to use their own leader’s description ‘drivel’ despite his having personally been in charge of policy inventing most of it ad lib to suit occasions and having personally signed off and commended their last manifesto; being only to happy to lay the blame at anyone’s door rather than shoulder the responsibility for his own ineptitude!

It looks all too likely that Nigel Farage will be squirming around in efforts to lay the blame for Ukip’s totally inaccurate immigrant policy at someone’s door unwilling to damage his income stream and career path by accepting responsibility for his actions!

In 21 years the one policy which Nigel Farage’s party has spectacularly failed to address is a responsible and honourable EU exit and survival strategy – a concept and policy document both far from populist in its required detail and obviously far beyond his or his party’s intellectual ability to produce to date – therefore I take the liberty of putting forward a suggestion that all who genuinely wish to Leave_The_EU amongst the ranks of those who have to date been duped into supporting Ukip consider adopting minded that the ONLY route to this is via referendum which can only be achieved by holding one’s nose and voting Conservative – how so ever one might vote in insignificant protest votes pending the General Election.

To that end and to help Ukip supporters understand the importance of a responsible and honourable EU exit and survival strategy I publish below an article from another blog.

The House of Commons on:

Leaving The EU – 01-Jul-2013

000a Parliament 002-exi.jpgPublished yesterday by the House of Commons Library was a research paper on “leaving the EU”. The online introduction is here which offers a download facility for the entire 112-page document. For those who want to look at it without downloading, you can access it here. The paper is edited by Vaughne Miller and she tells us that the Treaty on European Union provides for a Member State to leave the EU, either on the basis of a negotiated withdrawal agreement or without one.

If the UK were to leave the EU following a referendum, Miller says, it is likely that the Government would negotiate an agreement with the EU, which would probably contain transitional arrangements as well as provide for the UK’s long-term future relations with the EU. There is no precedent for such an agreement, but it would in all likelihood come at the end of complex and lengthy negotiations.

The full impact of a UK withdrawal, she adds, is impossible to predict, but from an assessment of the current EU role in a range of policy areas, it is possible to identify issues and estimate some of the impacts of removing the EU role in these areas. The implications would be greater in areas such as agriculture, trade and employment than they would in, say, education or culture.

As to whether UK citizens would benefit from leaving the EU, Miller argues that this would depend on how the UK Government of the day filled the policy gaps left by withdrawal from the EU.

She argues that, in some areas, the environment, for example, where the UK is bound by other international agreements, much of the content of EU law would probably remain. In others, it might be expedient for the UK to retain the substance of EU law, or for the Government to remove EU obligations from UK statutes.

Much would depend, Miller concludes, on whether the UK sought to remain in the European Economic Area (EEA) and therefore continue to have access to the single market, or preferred to go it alone and negotiate bilateral agreements with the EU.

And such is the view of a senior researcher in the House of Commons Library. It is not the definitive word by any means, but it is a contribution to a complex subject, where much debate and clarification is needed. At least, it does explore the Article 50 issue, telling us that an EU-exit would not be straightforward and would involve complex and probably lengthy negotiations over the UK’s future relations with the EU.

In so doing, several of the more egregious myths are debunked. For instance, the decision to leave, we are told, does not need the endorsement or formal agreement of the other Member States. Withdrawal can happen, whether or not there is a withdrawal agreement, two years after the leaving State notifies the European Council of its intention to withdraw.

Nevertheless, we learn, the terms of Article 50 TEU imply an orderly, negotiated withdrawal, and it is clearly indicated that transitional provisions would have to be agreed, allowing EU law and obligations to continue to apply until all loose ends had been tied up. It would not be possible to withdraw immediately from several policy areas without causing enormous disruption.

In my view, such are the complications that completion of negotiations within a two-year period is unlikely, and we could see the UK – as well as the member states – looking for an extension, before a withdrawal agreement could be finalised, with any side treaties that might be needed.

For all its utility, though, the paper has some huge gaps. There is, by way of one example, virtually no recognition of the effect of globalisation of trade, and the expanding role of international standards-setting bodies which, via WTO, are largely displacing the EU as originators of trade regulation.

In this context, a paper that talks of harmonised rules on type approval of road vehicles, that does not mention UNECE and the World Forum on the Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations, must be considered severely lacking. There is much of the “little European” in the arguments adduced.

For the moment, though, the paper is probably ahead of the field, which means that many commentators will be struggling to catch up. It gets some attention from the advertising and merchandising conglomerate, the Telegraph Media Group Ltd, which offers a thin report, homing in on narrow FUD issues. One suspects its author lacks the intellectual framework with which to assess the paper properly.

But then, media interests have shown little ability to deal with the detailed issues attendant on our leaving the EU – and many of the commenters even less so. The House of Commons researchers are better equipped, although one has to say, not that much better. But their contributions do make a start to what is going to be a long haul.

Leaving the EU –

Commons Library Research Paper

INTRODUCTION

The Treaty on European Union provides for a Member State to leave the EU, either on the basis of a negotiated withdrawal agreement or without one. If the UK were to leave the EU following a referendum, it is likely that the Government would negotiate an agreement with the EU, which would probably contain transitional arrangements as well as provide for the UK’s long-term future relations with the EU. There is no precedent for such an agreement, but it would in all likelihood come at the end of complex and lengthy negotiations.

Hi,
it is rare after so many years of blogging & following the blogosphere, to trip over a new blog which publishes material so broadly in agreement with one’s own blog!

Nigel Farage’s reaction to the UKIP Calypso coverage is gross hypocrisy

FARAGE, Nigel 94 ORCHESTRATING A DEFECTION 01

Nigel Farage has written an article on the Independent website about how the UKIP Calypso shows “how skewed people’s priorities are”. The main thrust of his point is summed up in the first paragraph:

How’s this for having your priorities in order: 1,400 young girls are groomed and raped in the North of England, and yet this week we’ve seen a stronger reaction from many on the Left to a calypso song produced by a Ukip supporter.

Later in the article he continues:

Still the obsession over a viral campaign to get a funny song into the charts has dominated the news agenda this week.

I presume Farage is saying that more focus should have been given to the news this week that a number of files have gone missing relating to the Rotherham abuse scandal. I believe the implication Farage wants us to draw is clear. We should not focus on the Calypso when there are other, truly awful, things happening.

His use of an incendiary topic like Rotherham makes it hard for anyone to argue with the position. It is a powerful diversionary tactic and, in our heads, we can probably imagine Mr Farage using it in one of his barnstorming speeches. His “slow-slow-quick” delivery style. His vocal rise and fall. His well delivered anger.

But I believe that this argument is an example of the worst type of political opportunism and misdirection. The type of politics that Farage claims to stand against. I believe it is gross hypocrisy.

The news on Rotherham has continued ever since it was initially uncovered.  Virtually every week a new, shocking, revelation has come to light. Yet I did not hear Mr Farage criticising anyone when Rotherham was replaced in media coverage and editorials by the UKIP conference, or Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless’s defections. I did not hear Mr Farage pleading with broadcasters to talk more about Rotherham when he was being asked about UKIP’s first elected MP and the party “making history”. I did not hear Mr Farage offering his time to make adverts for child abuse charities when he was busy filming ones for betting companies. So why the outrage now?

The sad truth is he was only too happy for coverage to move away from Rotherham when it suited him. When he was lauded for delivering a “political shockwave”. When he was invited on the primetime political slots. When he was taking another photo opportunity with another pint in another country pub.

So I ask you, Nigel, how’s that for having your priorities in order?
