Will Nigel Farage’s arrogance, hubris & corruption fail him? As he faces a leadership election in November with possible more credible challenges to his cult status, that will make Ukip’s way forward smootyher!

.

.
Hi,
one has to wonder at this article from Nigel Farage’s puppet paper; where it seemed all too clear that Patrick O’Flynn was rewarded for his sycophantic and promotional articles, where he failed to have the integrity to tell his readers of his bias, and was rewarded, as a newcomer to Ukip, with first place on their list and a near certain placement as an MEP (EU Democracy, I think not), for his corruption as a journalist!
The question is whether Nigel Farage has given this interview in arrogance, hubris or outright contempt for Ukip members based on the fact that so much of Ukip’s internal actions and both selections and elections have been undeniably corrupt and rigged.
Nigel Farage totally dismisses tyhe fact that his leadership term ends in November and by the 15-Sep-2014 nominees for positions in the new leadership election must be put forward – no doubt Ukip have already selected who will go forward to give the impression of a democratic process, which is unlikely based on Ukip’s tarck record of corruption and dishonesty eg CLICK HERE
One also has to be aware that not only is Patrick O’Flynn positioned, and by some mooted, to return Nigel Farage’s generosity in giving him the position and income of MEP but now we have Stuart Wheeler’s protege Douglas Carswell as a likely contender as the new leader to make an amalgamation with either a split Tory party or a Tory party led by Boris Johnson, which Wheeler has mooted, bewtween the New Tories and a New Look Ukip.
Will the undeniably corrupt and self serving abuses of democratic process and the bullying and whisper campaign so common in Farage’s Party cult succeed this time or will Farager be ousted sooner than he expects?

Nigel Farage says he will lose Ukip leadership if he doesn’t win South Thanet seat

NIGEL Farage has admitted he could be ousted as Ukip leader if he doesn’t win a seat at next year’s general election.

Published: Wed, August 27, 2014

Nigel Farage says he will be ousted as leader if he doesn't win seat Nigel Farage said: “If we fail the party will pick someone better than me” [PA]
Mr Farage has been chosen as a prospective parliamentary candidate for South Thanet in Kent, the constituency he finished fourth in back in 2005.When asked on Good Morning Britain if he would quit as leader in the event of an unsuccessful election, he said: “In all of life, if you succeed you get the laurels and the champagne and if you fail you get booted out. “That applies to Ed Miliband, to David Cameron, to Nick Clegg and to me.

“If we fail next year the party will pick someone better than me. But we won’t.”

Addressing his dismal result in 2005, where he garnered just five per cent of the vote, Mr Farage said: “10 years is a long time in politics – 10 years ago people did not see the Ukip message being relevant.”

Mr Farage will now seek to win the Conservative-held seat against Craig MacKinlay, the former Ukip leader chosen to stand for the Tories, as incumbent Laura Sandys stands down.

He said he has “not one ounce of complacency”, and said that Ukip is making gains by taking votes from across the three main parties.

Ukip’s recent strong performance in Kent in this year’s European elections has made victory in the seat appear a more realistic prospect.

Across the Thanet District Council area Ukip topped the poll, with 16,492 votes, more than double the votes cast for the second-placed Tories.

Speaking to supporters last night, Mr Farage said: “We can’t for one moment afford to be complacent because we swept the board in 2013 and we swept the board here in 2014.

“We did and that was magnificent. But don’t think that the heavy artillery from the Conservative and Labour parties will not be fired on this constituency.

“They will, they will, they will try very, very hard. They don’t want Ukip breaking through into Parliament and they most certainly do not want me breaking through into Parliament.

“Somebody said I’m David Cameron’s worst nightmare. Well, that’s not good enough. I want to be Ed Miliband’s worst nightmare, too.”

Matthew Parris provides More Reasons Why Clacton Suits Ukip, As Both are Going Nowhere!

Hi,
further to my article explaining why Clacton is so perfect a constituency for Ukip at CLICK HERE Matthew Parris clarifies the point showing just how dispossessed the electorate of Clacton are and just how this plays into the hands of those who depend on stirring up fears, hatred and failure amongst the less well educated to feed on that negative energy and dupe the people into believing that they have the answers when all they have is simple presentations and jingo bereft of vision – dreams of ephemeral transiency without substance best sold to those least able to critique or constructively analyse the lack of solid data in the glitzy sales pitch of such as Farage and his cult following in Ukip who like the YES campaigners of Alex Salmond in Scotland increasingly expose their vile bullying and abuse as their desperation for glory and greed for power becomes more transparent.

Tories should turn their backs on Clacton

The seaside town represents a Britain that’s going nowhere. The future belongs to places with more ambition and drive

At Stratford railway station in East London they’re a bit sheepish about the line to Clacton-on-Sea. Directed to platform 10a, the intending passenger easily finds platform 10; but of 10a there is no trace. It transpires that 10a is elsewhere, down a staircase at the far end of the platform. On 10a there are no train indicators and no staff. But you may just spot a “Clacton” sign on the train as it pulls in.

By the time you get to Clacton, most passengers have fled at intermediate stops. You walk almost alone through a well-kept station built for busier times, past a tidy canteen with a good range of meat pies at £1.50, and past a welcome-to-Clacton artwork constructed sweetly of glazed tiles picturing the resort. A red plastic litter-bin is prominent in the composition.

This is not a dirty or un-self-respecting town. Evidence of local pride and municipal effort is everywhere. The pier and the Princes Theatre struggle gamely on. On September 14 they welcome Ken Dodd and his Diamond Anniversary Happiness Show; later, Nights on Broadway with a group called the Bee Gees Story.

I met nothing but helpfulness there. Clacton-on-Sea is a friendly resort trying not to die, inhabited by friendly people trying not to die. Clacton is the constituency in England and Wales with the highest proportion of retired residents, almost the lowest proportion of residents aged 25-44 and the highest proportion of single elderly person households.

These are not wealthy retired professionals (almost 40 per cent of residents have no qualifications at all) and if you associate tattoos with youth, Clacton will surprise you. Father Time is busy with his scythe here: I counted 19 estate agents on Station Road, and you can get a three-bedroom detached bungalow for £94,995.

Only in Asmara after Eritrea’s bloody war have I encountered a greater proportion of citizens on crutches or in wheelchairs.

Shops tell you so much. Though at Burton’s they are offering “Free shoes when you buy a suit! (from £99)”, Lycra is the textile of choice and I saw not a single woman under 70 in a skirt, still less a dress. I was able to stock up on reading glasses at £1.99, and in Holland & Barrett the “Serious Mass Muscle Gainer” came in bucket-sized black plastic tubs at the checkout for the impulse purchaser. There are ten tattoo parlours and no Waterstones.

Enough. Don’t buy the too-easy media picture of a rancid or untended town, or of bitter people; but understand that Clacton-on-Sea is going nowhere. Its voters are going nowhere, it’s rather sad, and there’s nothing more to say. This is Britain on crutches. This is tracksuit-and-trainers Britain, tattoo-parlour Britain, all-our-yesterdays Britain.

So of course Ukip will do well in the by-election. Pollsters say they’ll win easily, though I found the Tories (busily repainting their constituency office) in defiant mood, and I do wonder if Douglas Carswell’s self-portrait as Man of Honour and Genius will entirely survive the campaign.

My aim, though, is not to deny Ukip its likelihood of victory. They make a good fit for Clacton. Somebody has to represent the static caravans and holiday villages, and the people and places that for no fault of their own are not getting where a 21st-century Britain needs to be going.

Nor do I deny that we Conservatives, if we tried hard enough, could get some of these voters back. There are many in a place like this who might be attracted again to the Tories by a noisy display of hostility towards immigration-and-Europe, political correctness and health-and-safety: hostility to a Britain that has forgotten the joys of Ken Dodd, meat pies, smoking in pubs and the Bee Gees.

No, my aim is to ask this: is that where the Conservative party wants to be? Is it where the Tories need to be if they’re to gather momentum in this century, rather than slowly lose it? Or do we need to be with the Britain that has its career prospects ahead and not behind, that can admire immigrants and want them with us, that doesn’t want to spend its days buying scratchcards and its evenings smoking in pubs, that’s amazed at all the fuss about whether gays should marry, that travels in Europe and would hesitate to let those links go?

I am not arguing that we should be careless of the needs of struggling people and places such as Clacton. But I am arguing — if I am honest — that we should be careless of their opinions.

A besetting sin of democratic politics is that party politicians, like religious evangelists, must seek clients. The weak, the unlucky, the resentful, the fearful, the old and the poor will always be the easiest to enlist as clients, for they have nowhere else to go but into the arms of politicians promising them sympathy.

It’s harder for politicians and priests to enlist successful people, busy people, people who want to go places, because these people are less likely to be looking for the crutches — practical or moral — that politics or religion can offer. So, often without meaning to, a political party seeking not only votes but self-affirmation is drawn towards a town called Hopeless.

This is the terrible, I would say fatal, mistake that the left made in the 20th century with Christian Socialism. Marxian Socialism is about success, not failure, and elevates achievement, not suffering. But the British left lost its way and ended up with the politics of victimhood, subsidy and the soup kitchen.

When Tory canvassers describe as “good areas” the streets where support is strong, they mean “good” in both its senses. But for Labour canvassers their good areas are the bad areas. Ukip, if it prospers, will find the same. More and more, their hopes will lie in Lycra not tweed.

Some of the Tory right want to drag the Conservative party the same way: to invest our political future in the disappointed, the angry, the nostalgic and the fearful. This is not a crazy strategy, because the market in pessimism is easy to capture, and easier to hold on to than the market in optimism; there will always be millions of pessimists.

But the truth from which the right hides is this: you cannot have both. You cannot look like a party for the resentful and still appeal to the cheerful. If you want to win Cambridge you may have to let go of Clacton.

From the train leaving Stratford at platform 10a, you can see Canary Wharf, humming with a sense of the possible. You must turn your back on that if you want to go to Clacton. I don’t, and the Tories shouldn’t.

To view the original article see today’s Times {Now hidden behind a paywall on the internet!}
Dr. Tim Stanley the historian who specialises in the history of America with a new book on Hollywood coming out next May has made some prescient points on Mathew Parris’ smug self satisfaction, right as he may well have been.
The academic Tim Stanley in his immaturity of genuine experience has of course over simplified and taken issue with Parris on the wording Parris presented wherein Parris talks of the people of Clacton as some sort of ‘working class’ seemingly unwilling to go that extra step and talk of the ‘dispossessed’ who have, largely due to educational failure, failed to keep up with society and its changes and technology. That this body of dispossessed may well be decent folk they are no less an easy group to bestir and are those self same people on whom Adolf Hitler built his power base just as Alex Salmond has done in Scotland and Nigel farage is currently doing south of the tartan curtain.
Irresponsibly building on the fears of these people, with no real working solution, is all too easy as Farage has shown with his endless band wagon jumping soft racism and hard core failure to provide a realistic and responsible, let alone honourable, exit and survival strategy. Being rude to those in authority has always been an easy route to the support of those who know they have no hope of ever being amongst tghat elite and it is essential that such as Alex Salmond ensures his following never get wind of his diletante interests and art collection just as despite his intake of fine wines and self indulgence in excellent restaurants Farage ensures his PR photos are of him ostensibly swilling yet another pint of beer along with the chavvery in the pub ‘fag’ in hand:

Dear Matthew Parris: if the Tories abandon the working class to Ukip, they will deserve to lose 2015

I’m writing this blog at midnight: the angry hour. The hour when you’re only awake because you’ve spotted something that infuriates you and – damn it – you have to put every furious thought down. They teach this process in anger management, apparently. Talk through what went wrong from beginning to end and maybe it’ll all make sense.

What went wrong is that Matthew Parris wrote an article for The Times. A very ugly article indeed. He took a trip to Clacton, the seat being contested in a by-election by Tory/Ukip defector Douglas Carswell, and Matthew was not impressed by what he found. He found a bit of Britain that isn’t London.

Yes, it sounds like Hell, Matthew. Not a Starbucks in sight – and car parking spaces that would barely fit a limousine. How our intrepid reporter coped with the natives I cannot say, although it’s quite obvious that he didn’t like them. Really, his language is shockingly rude about people who are – lest we forget – human beings.

Clacton-on-Sea is a friendly resort trying not to die, inhabited by friendly people trying not to die… These are not wealthy retired professionals (almost 40 per cent of residents have no qualifications at all) and if you associate tattoos with youth, Clacton will surprise you.

The conclusion to all this nastiness? That the Conservatives should abandon Clacton to the Neolithic Ukippers and reach out instead to aspirant urban middle-classes and hard-working immigrants (because anyone who pays less that £1 million for their house has clearly not been working very hard all their life – the peasants).

“I am not arguing,” argues Matthew, “that we should be careless of the needs of struggling people and places such as Clacton. But I am arguing — if I am honest — that we should be careless of their opinions.” So, yes, he is saying that the Tories should be careless of their needs. Because what they need is what they ask for – respect. And Mr Parris can’t bring himself to give that to tattooed simpletons on crutches.

Why am I so angry about all of this? For philosophical and personal reasons. Philosophically, I cannot see that Matthew is a democrat if he thinks national leaders should dismiss an entire class and its opinions. I cannot see that he is a patriot if he dislikes his own people so much. And I cannot see that he is a Tory if he does not feel a responsibility to serve them. After all, the essence of Toryism is to seek to assist all the people regardless of background. It is the Left traditionally that separates people by sectional interest – the desire to become “the masters now”. By contrast, the One Nation Tory tradition seeks to forge a spirit of national community that promises aspiration and compassion for all. Even Margaret Thatcher – yes, Margaret Thatcher – did that. After all, she let those working class people buy their own houses, never privatised the NHS and united the nation in liberating the Falklands. To be a Tory, at its best, is to serve. Not to dismiss and ignore. Conservatism stripped of compassion is just nasty social Darwinism.

And Matthew’s column grinds my gears on a personal level because I, too am “ordinary”. I know the kind of people he’s describing; there are a lot of them in my family. And although I may have grown up into something that could perhaps be described as “exotic”, I’ve retained a deep love of the ordinary. I love seaside towns like Clacton: the piers, the fish’n’chips, the crappy shows (more impersonators of the Bee Gees than there were Bee Gees), the fag ash, the “family tattoo emporiums”, the loud families, the tired old gramps falling asleep on the bench, beer in plastic cups and merry-go-rounds that electrically hum Black Lace classics. It might not be pretty by 5 star London standards – but it’s Britain. Those people who Matthew dismisses built this country. They have survived world wars, recessions, depressions and 16 Eurovision humiliations in a row. They are indomitable – and no Westminster bureaucrats or clever-clogs writers will ever change them. I love them. I love them because I have to as a Christian and I want to as a fellow Briton. We are family. And you don’t turn your back on family.

Matthew seems to imagine that he’s handing out sage advice to David Cameron about how to build a Tory majority, but he’s dead wrong. On the contrary, columns like this suggest to people from my background what they’ve always suspected: that Tories are laughing at them. By and large that isn’t true, but Matthew has come to represent a segment of liberal opinion that defines itself by a perceived superiority to everyone else. And if David Cameron follows that strategy at the next election, he’ll be left with just one segment of the population enthusiastically backing him: Matthew Parris.

Now it’s 12.50am and I must go back to sleep, if I can. I’m still very, very angry. I may well be so for some time.

But I do contend that Matthew Parris most clearly out maneuvers the notably light weight Tim Stanley’s all too simplistic rush to self publicity, with his regular column in The Times:

A Tory schism is now all but inevitable

Matthew Parris

Douglas Carswell’s defection is part of a strategy to scupper the EU referendum and take over the Conservative party

Never trust a man in love with his own probity. On the BBC yesterday morning Douglas Carswell made three references to himself as “honourable” within 35 seconds. “Putting my principles on the table,” he has claimed. The language should arouse immediate suspicion.

Ignore the weekend’s cooings about Mr Carswell: “honourable man”, “intellect”, “man of principle”, “no ordinary rebel”, etc. Just consider what he has done. Here is a politician who, to get himself elected, wrapped himself in the mantle of the Conservative party, spent years at Westminster undermining the Conservative party and now renounces his party at a moment chosen to inflict maximum injury.

Yet he brays about his principles while admirers gush about his intellect. Where is the principle, where is the intellectual integrity, where is the honour in this? Mr Carswell professes shock that David Cameron hopes to negotiate a European deal that can be recommended to the British people. What other kind of deal does he think a prime minister should aim for?

Mr Cameron never did claim that he wanted to leave the EU. But if the Conservative party has changed at all since Mr Carswell last flew its colours in 2010, it has grown more Eurosceptic, not less.

He is one of those characters who sometimes briefly thrives in the thin soil of Commons philosophising — a stupid person’s thinking person with a gift for making shallow oversimplifications sound wondrously deep. He will find it a sullying business being Ukip’s philosopher king to the man on the Clacton omnibus.

He calls himself a libertarian — and joins a party the limits of whose libertarianism would be to allow smoking in pubs (and, for all I know, bear baiting) on the grounds of personal freedom. He will tire of playing king of the kids for Ukip, and they will tire of him — as happened to Enoch Powell after his defection to the Ulster Unionists.

So much for the man himself. But to scorn the individual is not to trivialise the damage he can do. The damage could be immense. The campaign by the ultras on the Tory right to wreck then remake their party is well on track.

There is a decent chance that Mr Carswell will win his by-election and some possibility that a couple of other Conservative zealots may try to follow him. A “Ukip surge” and the momentum that could be created by a series of awful by-election results for Tories in the months before a general election could be grave. Mr Carswell’s move will hearten 30 or more Conservative MPs on the party’s right; they are with him in spirit already and are waiting for their moment. I fear that moment will come.

Ukip and the Tory irreconcilables are perfectly relaxed about the possibility that Mr Cameron could lose the next election; they do not want the EU referendum that would follow his victory. They want the present Tory leadership to stumble and fall, and, from the internal battle that would follow, they see the emergence of a new kind of party led by a new kind of leader from the anti-European right.

My fellow columnist Tim Montgomerie could not have been more wrong when he wrote in yesterday’s Times Red Box blog that “Ukip voters don’t believe that the Tory leader is serious about the referendum”. The “let’s-get-out-now” brigade in British politics have a very different fear. They fear that Mr Cameron would indeed hold his referendum and win it.

Accordingly they will do all they can to derail this referendum; and they know that if Mr Cameron gets his mandate in next year’s general election, this will be hard to do. They therefore aim to derail the Tory campaign, starting now.

It’s no good us moderates bleating that this could only lead to a Labour victory and no referendum. The right know that. And if a Labour victory (which they believe would be short-lived) is the price that has to be paid for their take-over of the Conservative party, then many would be content to pay it. Their eyes are fixed on the longer view.

I hope, but cannot be confident, that we can stop them. The seismology of British politics awaits a major quake. Ukip and the Tory right aim to trigger this quake. From the rubble they believe a party of the right that looks very like themselves will emerge. The more liberal and centrist Tories, they think, could make common cause with some Liberal Democrats and even Blairite Labour politicians. Their ultimate aim, then, is for Ukip and the Tories to merge under the banner of a new Conservative party.

This is a logical, if odious, plan. It may prove achievable. But it’s not a plan that — for all their bluster about honour and principle — the irreconcilables dare admit to. So they will continue to protest their loyalty but moan about Mr Cameron’s weaknesses, casting him — he whose personal ratings are well ahead of their party’s — as the problem and remaining ready with the sly shin kick or the sudden access of personal conscience whenever Tory fortunes seem to be rising. Mr Carswell’s “principled” resignation is part of that strategy.

I now see schism in the Conservative party as all but inevitable, whether in government after 2015 or out. Perhaps it will be healthy for democracy. There are plenty of nutters out there and maybe the nutters do need a party to represent them, though the slow-dawning disappointment that awaits the Tory right in the coming decades is that there will never be quite enough nutters to form a government.

For the rest of us Conservatives there emerges just one imperative, and Douglas Carswell’s departure should fix it in our minds. We must have nothing to do with these people. No concessions to Ukip, no more rightward creep, no fluttering of eyelashes and no dogwhistled calls for anyone to come back. These people don’t want a compromise — Mr Cameron has already thrown them too much meat — and the more you give them, the more they’ll demand.

Douglas Carswell’s departure is an early warning of what may be to come. So now is the moment to dig in. If a schism is coming, we moderates must draw our own battle lines. And about this there must be no question: we aren’t shifting. We, the old, battered, wary, pragmatic, often-compromised, one-nation Conservative party, are the Tories. If divorce looms we must make sure the breakaway zealots don’t get the house, the car, the company, the client list, the trademark or the brand.

So I finish as I started, with this message to Mr Carswell and his crew. Go to Ukip by all means. And stay there.

You may well consider reading up on my earlier take on this issue of the division of the Tories as it seems Stuart Wheeler sees it, by placing Douglas Carswell in a position to ensure Ukip is more acceptable to Tory EUrosceptics so that Boris Johnson can fracture the Tories and bring the two together distanced from the overburden of baggage brought to the union of the two parties without Farage or his ego and insecurities at CLICK HERE

Why Clacton Parliamentary constituency Is A Perfect Target For Ukip & Nigel Farage’s brand of cult like populism:

.
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
if you read the case study of ‘The Center for Social Justices’ on Clacton you will start to appreciate just why it is potentially the most suitable chance Ukip has of having someone (anyone) elected to Parliament – especially as Parliament becomes ever less relevant to the Governance of the once United Kingdoms – now little more than a squabbling series of regions ruled over by the malign and self serving EU.
Ukip’s cult like style requiring little serious thought in terms of policies or any issue of gravitas much beyond jumping on any populist band wagon to garner votes from a less well educated sector of the electorate who feel challenged and out manoeuvered in the job market by waves of immigrants from the EU. An older sector of the population is attractedf under a thinly veilled racist extremism they believe will provide jobs for their children and granchildren as they complete their scratch cards and dispense with books, education and in many cases even a table to eat from.
The stridency and name calling of Ukip’s leadership for publicity sake apeals to such an unthinking under belly of society sadly. A sector of society all too willing to blame immigrants or for that matter anyone else for the failures of their lives rather than admit their own short comings.
It seems there are regions, or at least sufficient of the underbelly of society together with societies failure where the unrelenting chavveery, bullying and mindless centralised control appeals even though it is clear just what Ukip’s thoughts related to debate and the electorate are:
ATKINSON, Janice 02Ukip MEP Janice Atkinson
Ad-Van EUkipNo Substitute for leadership, gravitas and policies!
NATTRASS, Mike 01Hardly A Party to Take Seriousl
 UKIP CHICKEN PROTEST 01Ukip Staff & MEPs expect to be taken seriously in Brussels
EU MEP Cartoon 03
That it is currently rumoured that the Tories will be fielding Garry Barlow a ‘celeb’ rather than a member of socie3ty of gravitas and achievement outside of entertainment and as a showman, to cash in on the populist vote of the sub economic and poorly educated majority of the electorate in Clacton is a sad reflection of the times!
Consider this extract from the case study in question:
‘Clacton is the end of the line – it is not just the last station from the west but it’s also
where a lot of troubled people end up.’
This charity worker’s blunt description of Clacton-on-Sea epitomises the ‘rise and fall’
image that grips many seaside towns. But walking through its main streets the sense of
decline is not obvious – on summer afternoons the beach is busy, cafes are trading and
children enjoy the seaside attractions. Clacton appears to be a bustling town of over
55,000 people.
51
‘It’s when you scratch below the surface that you start to see the problems Clacton has,’ said
a businesswoman who has run a bed and breakfast near the town’s pier since the 1960s.
‘What has happened to Clacton is really sad, in fact it’s disgraceful. The place was so
vibrant through the 1960s and 1970s – you would see coaches streaming in for six
months of the year. I couldn’t walk down the pavement because the place was so busy.
But there was no investment and the place has deteriorated, the Pier ward is now
considered to be a place in poverty which would have been unthinkable.’
Many see the 1980s as the point where things started to decline in Clacton. The Town and
Country Building Society closed its head office, Butlins holiday camp shut down, and the
emergence of foreign holidays meant a lot of Clacton’s tourists became day trippers. Since
then, Clacton’s greatest problem has been a stagnating economy, fuelled largely by a lack of
sustainable jobs and high levels of worklessness. As the CSJ highlighted in its
Signed on, Written
off
report earlier this year, in one neighbourhood in the Pier ward, 54 per cent of people aged
16-64 are on out-of-work benefits – the fifth highest percentage in the country. Ironically, it
was the Pier area that had previously provided so much of the town’s employment.
or perhaps this extract sparks your understanding of why a personality cult like Ukip is so suitable for Nigel Farage’s ambitions – especially when you consider that even the pundits seem to believe the pollsters in predicting the Tory vote will collapse and follow their local personality to return Douglas Carswell in a different guise, to suit his aims and pander to his brand of populism and showmanship – ever the drama queen but all too popular for his willingness to cock a snoot at the grown ups of politics which is such a key to Farage’s rise to infamy!
Unlike many towns that suffer economic decline, Clacton’s population has actually been
increasing – rising by 29 per cent over the period of 30 years between 1981 and 2011 to
55,347.
56
Because property prices are considerably lower than London and other parts of
Essex, Clacton has become an increasingly popular town to retire to. A recent survey found
Clacton is the fifth most popular retirement coastal town in Britain, with nearly a third of
residents claiming state pensions.
57
Compared to national figures, Clacton has a lower than
average proportion of 25-44 year olds and higher than average number of people who are
65 and over.
58
This has created a situation where a large proportion of the population does
not work, leaving the local economy struggling. Although this does include some pensioners,
43 per cent of Clacton’s 16 to 74 year olds are economically inactive.
59
A former employee of the regional tourist board said: ‘It is difficult for a town when much of
its work is seasonal, but it’s a million times worse when you have large parts of the population
that don’t work at all. A lot of people moved to Clacton from London to retire and have
priced locals out of good property, that is a source of tension.’
The local economy is further hindered by low pay. In 2010 the median household income
in Clacton was £13,648,
60
compared to the median in England and Wales of £24,242. A
major barrier to employment is a low skills base – 41 per cent of adults in Clacton have
no qualifications, which is almost double the national average for England and Wales.
52
Just a few miles along the coast from Clacton is Jaywick, which according to the Indices of
Multiple Deprivation 2010 has the most deprived neighbourhood in England.
53
Some of the
people who use Clacton’s emergency food services and the soup kitchen walk from Jaywick,
a village that has suffered from isolation and deteriorating housing and now has high levels of
economic dependency. Some 35 per cent of working-age people claim some form of out-of-
work benefit
54
and 54 per cent of the population aged 16 and over have no qualifications.
55
One counsellor, who previously worked in Jaywick, said locals refer to it as ‘Beirut’ and that in
recent years ‘it has started policing itself ’. She added: ‘The problems in Jaywick seem to be a
lot more concentrated than the rest of Clacton. I’ve heard some fairly nasty stories. If someone
does something bad to you, the reaction is not to call the police but to deal with it yourself. It
almost seems like a warped version of care in the community.’
Sue Peachey, who has lived in Clacton for 25 years, is team leader at Open Road, an addictions
charity that has 11 centres for drug and alcohol treatment across and Essex and Suffolk.
She said: ‘What we have seen with many clients is they have never worked, and some come
from families where parents haven’t worked. It is a generational issue and it is difficult when
you are trying to help someone who has never been engaged with work.
‘We have a very good success rate but it is not easy. I think the problems affecting the local
area do make it more difficult to help people. There is no industry here, no jobs and that lack
of stability makes it very complicated for people trying to move off addictions – people want
some kind of motivation.’
The Centre for Social Justice
22
Councillor Peter Halliday, Leader of Tendring District Council (TDC), said: ‘It is a fact that
Clacton has changed significantly over the years and, in keeping with many other seaside
towns, its economy has altered dramatically. Like other resorts we face a number of
difficult challenges with more people choosing to go abroad for their holidays. That said,
we still get more than one million visitors a year spending almost a million pounds a day
in the district. One of our biggest challenges is to find ways to encourage them to return
so that we can make the very most of that spending potential. That is still very much a
work in progress.’
The CSJ was told that one of the biggest social problems is that the town has a high number
of houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). One official referred to it as ‘bedsit land’. The Essex
town is home to a large number of bed and breakfasts, many of which have been turned into
bedsits or other kinds of temporary accommodation. Another Pier B&B owner said: ‘Because
there aren’t as many tourists staying overnight many of us B&B owners have started letting
some of our rooms out to the council for emergency accommodation. It’s not what you want
to be known for, as it is hardly going to encourage business to your B&B, but you have to pay
the bills.’ A Government report said HMOs can have a negative social impact on areas and in
some cases lead to crime and anti-social behaviour.
63
There is a forum of frontline organisations and individuals, Clacton Central Community
First, that comes together to discuss social problems and ways of countering them. One
forum member said: ‘One of the biggest problems is HMOs – overcrowding brings so many
problems to a society. Clacton simply doesn’t have the resources or things in place to help
people. Local people are doing their best to fight this, but it’s an uphill struggle and the
council and local authority only seem to be acknowledging this now.’ Concerns have been
expressed that HMOs can be detrimental to people’s health as well as the community. A
report by the University of Essex’s School of Health and Human Sciences recently looked at
the mental health of vulnerable people living in bedsits in seaside towns and found that the
living conditions can have a significant impact on people.
64
Councillor Halliday said: ‘There is an HMO problem in Clacton, especially in the Pier ward
which is in the heart of the town centre. We are tackling this by introducing new licensing
regulations to ensure that properties must come up to a certain standard before they can
become HMO.’
Some officials in the town have said that there has been an increase of HMOs since the
Tendring Night Shelter was opened in the town around four years ago. The shelter aims to
provide support so clients can become independent. Residents, who are allowed to stay for
28 nights, are provided with support from Tendring Mental Health Support and local charities.
After clients of the shelter complete their stay, many move into HMOs and need continuing
support. The shelter has drawn in some people from other parts of Essex and further afield
who have then remained in Clacton and continued to use local services. One former shelter
resident said: ‘The night shelter is a life saver. It offers great support, but obviously it means
there will be more people moving from different areas to Clacton so they can get help.’
Tracy Cooke, from Clacton, is the co-ordinator at the local Salvation Army Community
Centre, which runs a food bank service. She said: ‘The rise in food we hand out in recent
years has been incredible and is no longer sustainable so we are having to move to another
delivery model so we can cope with the demand. I have been here for seven years and in
the first two years we would have the occasional family coming in for food on referral. But
in the last four years we have seen a major increase. Our majority client base changed from
older people to males aged 25-45 who may be staying in bedsits or are couch surfing. In the
last year we gave out 2,500 food parcels, which I could never have expected.’
A frontline service provider said: ‘The picture of life in Clacton and where the town is going
is really frightening. What has happened here is indicative of many seaside towns, but much
more could be done. We would like to see more done with the Big Society Fund. Many
people lack the basics for getting into work or training, like something as obvious as a fixed
abode. More funding to social enterprises could improve the situation.’
The TDC has said that if it was given greater powers to deliver services, the local area would
benefit. Ian Davidson, Chief Executive of TDC, said: ‘Giving greater power and accountability
to the districts could help solve the problems in our local areas. We are on the ground and we
have the local knowledge and an understanding of the local agencies. If it’s done at a local level
you can actually switch money to being less reactive and more proactive. We recently ran a
‘families with complex needs’ pilot and it worked very well because we could co-ordinate
it better with the local agencies. We would like to see this delivery model used more in the
future – it is better for the taxpayer, the community and people we want to help.’
The local authority has agreed the town ‘is not fulfilling its potential’ and that it ‘lacks a
distinctive quality tourism/visitor offer’.
65
As well as improving current facilities, the council has
said it needs to develop new ones. It has been reported in local media that a £30 million
development may be outlined soon.
66
While fresh investment in the Pier area will be widely welcomed, it is becoming clear that
seaside towns, like Clacton, can no longer afford to rely solely on tourism and will need to
build a more stable economy.
The Fleet Street Fox Exposes The Flaws In Nigel Farage’s so very fragile Chicken Run!
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
having been a follower of Susie Boniface from long before her entertaining book ‘The Diaries of A Fleet Street Fox’ was published, her sarcism is all too often poking fun at the self important and those who have become a legend in their own lunchtime or in this instance in their own faux publicity drinking time and indeed she is sometimes right – sometimes in her vocabulary is self denigratory as I fing her not only right most of the time but all too frequently both prescient and predictive.
When one considers her accuracy one is wise to remember she spent some time as a defence correspondent for the Plymouth Herald reporting in depth on The Royal Navy and its actions in The Gulf.
Ms. Boniface’s style may be light hearted as behoves the tabloids for whom she writes but it would be foolish to dismiss her as anything but a professional in her field as is shown by this article that exposes the weakness of Nigel Farage and his cult and the bluster behind which Ukip shelters.
Bluster which all too often not only neglects the electorate in its hedonistic self serving activities but is all too willing to be malicious and vituperative in its defence of the comforts of the gravy train on which it aims to ride, seemingly in perpituity, without any meaningful achievements to its name beyond efforts to destroy the lives of anyone who dares to expose their undeniable corruption, industrial level of fraud and persistent dishonest chavvery as with:
ATKINSON, Janice 02Ukip MEP Janice Atkinson
 And Nigel Farage, whilst employing his wife prior to arranging for a lackey to employ her and having been publicly exposed employing at least one of his sometime sexual partners on the public purse had the temerity to dump his long term chum and cult follower Godfrey Bloom, for daring to use the soubriquet ‘Sluts’ when alluding to certain Ukip women!

No-one expects UKIP and Nigel Farage – their chief weapon is surprise

Reuters
Watch out: Nigel Farage is about

If there’s one thing Nigel Farage is good at, it’s surprising you.

And drinking beer. If there are two things Nigel is good at, it’s surprising you and drinking beer.

And making headlines. If there’s three things… oh, never mind.

It is undeniably an excellent bit of summer political shenanigans to stand for Parliament and grab a defection within a week.

On Tuesday Nigel became the official candidate in Thanet and unveiled 11 other mainly seaside, blue collar, immigrant-heavy constituencies he was targeting.

Now Tory backbencher Douglas Carswell – the MP responsible for booting the last Speaker Michael Martin over the expenses scandal, the MP who wants proportional representation – has joined UKIP looks good for Nigel.

It says that mainstream people like him, not just fruitcakes and that he’s jolly democratic.

Rather than switch sides and hold on to his seat, Carswell’s done the decent thing and said there’ll be a by-election so the voters can say if they agree.

It also says, quite loudly, that UKIP can expect a solid two months or so of “ooh, exciting, isn’t it?” political coverage at zero risk to themselves.

If Carswell wins the by-election, hooray. And if he loses, which is very unlikely with a 12,000 majority, he gets to stand again in May.

And meanwhile nobody will be looking too hard at Nigel, or his candidates who have a tendency to be, well, a little nutty.

Carswell himself isn’t quite so squeaky clean, even on the expenses issue he was so keen to expose. He was found to have flipped his second home and claimed £655 for a “love seat”. He did all this despite owning a third property which he rents out.

He has said this was “entirely justified” while also saying: “We need to clean up Westminster politics and take action to restore faith in our political system.”

Getty
Laugh a minute: Nigel Farage poses for photographers as he leaves his home in Kent

But then, Nigel rather likes people who do one thing and say another. He does much the same himself.

For example, he SAYS it’s dreadful that MPs buy second homes with taxpayer-funded mortgages, flipped them to avoid capital gains tax, “claimed expenses for duck houses, moat cleaning and poppy wreaths”.

But his party has voted against expenses reform in the European Parliament, employ one another’s wives as their secretaries, andgenerally get the taxpayer to fork out for quite a lot.

He SAYS he’s running a people’s army, inspiring people who do not vote to return to the ballot box to make their presence felt.

But all the evidence shows that fewer of us are voting these days, and Nigel is not dragging more of us to the polling station.

In May UKIP was the biggest party in the Euro elections by polling just nine per cent – NINE – of the total electorate.

That’s not a people’s army – it’s more a rotting cadet hut.

Cheers chums: Nigel sips a pint

But now we have been served up a portion of Carswell and a side dish of by-election to take our minds off it.

Nigel wins when we are entertained and stop thinking. When we listen to how he says things, rather than what he does.

The best bit of advice I have ever had was from a friend who said: “You don’t judge people by what they say, but by what they do.”

What Nigel says will always grab headlines and give good soundbite. Perhaps that will be enough to propel him to Westminster.

But what he DOES is always different, and it always trips him up. If he gets within a sniff of power neither he or his party will know quite what to do with it, and I quake at the prospect of him holding summits with Vladimir Putin or Angela Merkel.

Cleaner politics wouldn’t suit Nigel. It would mean his weaknesses were exposed, that we would have no need for the things he says, and he’d be an unemployed middle-aged man with a face like a Simpsons character.

And like the Spanish Inquisition, he needs sinners or he ceases to exist.

The problem with UKIP is no-one expects anything of them, so that when they do one good thing it seems amazing, and when they do lots we’ll be absolutely horrified.

Is that the kind of surprise you want?

How will you vote in the General Election?

WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN BEING IN UKIP as NIGEL FARAGE’S SHINING STAR?

I BELIEVE DOUGLAS
CARSWELL IS MAKING THE BIGGEST MISTAKE IN HIS LIFE

An Honest Warning to anyone, regardless of their political orientation, who is thinking to join UKIP

I am writing you from the depth of my heart, with absolute honesty and no agenda other than not wishing to see my worst enemy repeat the biggest mistake of my life, joining UKIP.

I am former Conservative Ward Chair woman in the prime Westminster North Constituency.  I was in the 2005 Conservative by-election a Council candidate, I was also a very active member of the Executive of my local Association and Vice Chair of the Policy Forum.

I fought and was very successful contributor in Conservative elections, local, European, Mayoral and General.  I met David Cameron, George Osborne, I also worked closely with Boris Johnson on his successful campaign to oust Livingstone as Mayor of London, I was instrumental in taking a solid Labour Ward and making it for the first time in history Conservative, with an over 65% swing etc etc.

Then came the controversial and infamous Conservative A list, Noting Hill set, ‘their policies’ of a close circle and not an inch of all the Conservative party, I loved and cherished was abandoned.

I did not go into politics to seek keys to 10 Downing Street or preferment on any level but for a more ‘selfish reason’!
I am a former refugee who fled the war in my homeland in 1993 and came to the UK, I was welcomed into this country and was given the opportunity to rebuild my life, to get further education, to work, to bring up my son and to enjoy a peaceful life.  I was so grateful that as soon as I was able to stand on my own two feet I wanted to give back something to the community that welcomed me, despite the fact I was not born here, my family didn’t build cities here nor did they contribute here.
My own country where my family did all those things for centuries had become untenable for me and had kicked me out and UK opened door to me.  For that alone I will be eternally grateful.
I soon began doing community work, setting up Resident’s Association, sitting on Police Consultative Groups and above all helping the disadvantaged.  When faced with issues of how to help those who are homeless, of those who have extremely sick children and similar issues I found I had to ask for political help.  So I became involved in the politics to gain connections to help me to help others.  That was my ‘selfish’ reason to choose to become involved in politics.

As a Tory I never had a problem with any other normal party, Labour, LibDems, Greens.  I worked and cooperated with all of them on the local issues and whenever issues affecting community arose.
Yes, I fought them during election times, but I had no problem working with them.  I still have a Labour MP and she is a wonderful woman.  In my opinion all these legitimate political parties are full of people like me, people who are doing their best for the love of their communities.  The only difference being the ways we think we can achieve that ultimate goal of creating better lives for all.

In 2008 my whole ward got fed up with ‘A’ lists, puff policies, imposed Oxbridge candidates clueless of politics, lazy, no interest in community work and I with many others left the Conservatives.  We did not defect to any other party but just resigned en masse.  It was then that we were approached by other parties, and I made the biggest mistake of my life and joined UKIP.  At that time I thought that UKIP are just old Conservative Party with rather more Eurosceptic views.

Initially, much like Mr Carswell himself, I was welcomed with open arms.  Nigel Farage was fawning over me (I have the pictures to prove it), there was press coverage, I was a ‘shining star’.  In 2010 I was even  made to be candidate for the 2nd target seat, after Nigel Farage’s, and was one of the selected few, at the UKIP Campaign launch, to be shown to the media at 4 Millbank.
Yes, Mr Carswell I was in your shoes, before you.

Soon afterwards shocking reality began to sink in.  UKIP doesn’t do political work on the ground, there were no constituents’ surgeries, no campaigning, no canvassing, no contact with the electorate (they are after all, in the immortal words of one of UKIP MEPs, ‘… all stupid bunch who will always vote for us.’ ), let alone any community work offering any chance to help those who need you or to do anything.

Instead Mr. Carswell be warned: you you will be faced every singe day with unpalatable bigotry, class warfare (oh UKIP hates above all those who are educated and have more than a single brain cell in their heads, especially Tory toffs, Labour socialists, LibDems intellectuals or Green enthusiasts), constant internal infighting, gossiping, blackmailing, industrial scale fraud and plain daylight robbery are the norm amongst UKIP leadership team and its close followers. You will find you are constantly hearing and be forced to follow stupidities – ranging from every available conspiracy theory (Jews rule the World, all Muslims talk to each other to hide ‘taqia’, UFOs, Establishment, MI5, FBI, KGB who is following them, Masons etc etc).  If you refuse you will be called every vulgar name you can imagine exists and be harassed daily.

You can also forget about policies (those are created as Nigel’s sees any passing bandwagon to jump on that furthers his personal interest), forget about your input or even proposals. The one thing you will never hear will be how to create a better society for all.

You will also have to accept the fact that Nigel ‘walks on water’, has full and ultimate control of every aspect of the party and don’t you dare steal his limelight or challenge his personal interests.
As to walking on water just consider who would possibly consider the following to be a responsible Press Release:
Embedded image permalink
There really is nothing either professional or clever about trying to belittle one’s rivals!

Then you will have had enough, rude awakenings after many, many sleepless nights and decide to leave.  There is only one catch. You can’t. You can leave UKIP but UKIP will never ever leave you alone.First it will start with hooligans at your door threatening your entire family, late night telephone calls with horrific threats, disgusting letters to your family and friends.
You will then try to go to Police but will soon find out that all those all too common BNP sympathising Police officers are now UKIP members or supporting Police Officers and you will be arrested based on pack of UKIP lies. Consider the lies and treatment of Nikki Sinclaire, ‘Junius’, Richard North, Heather Connyngham, Richard Suchorzewski, Dr. Eric Edmonds, Delroy Young, Peter Troy, Dr. David Abbott, Greg Lance-Watkins, Petrina Holdsworth, Niall Warry, John West myself and others whose reputation they have set out to try to destroy, for having the temerity to tell the truth about the leadership of UKIP.
It doesn’t matter the fact that you have never done anything illegal, or even any civil infringement in your life, UKIP will create or attempt to create ‘your crime’ (from laughing to UKIP posters, non-existing sexual attacks, stalking their wives from your hospital bed, or ‘fraud’ which also does not exist).  Then you will spend some considerable time (yes, Mr Lord) on police bail until UKIP’s CPS lawyer conjure ‘charges’ based on no evidence, no case to answer.  Consider the fact that Nikki Sinclaire has been on bail for 29 months and even though now charged has received no details regarding her alleged offences, is this the new UKIP style of ‘British Justice’?
You will no doubt still think, ‘this cannot happen in the UK’, we are a country based on rule of law and judicial integrity and will choose to go in front of jury, or so we believe!  The only problem will be the Judge in the case, UKIP longstanding friend who will not allow jury to hear or see any evidence but will give 78 pages long rant against you describing you as worse than a mass murderer to ensure your conviction, jail sentence, mandatory visit to forensic psychiatrist  (who will if you are lucky and get a non UKIP doctor he will write conclusion that you are sane, telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth under oath and have done nothing) and then you will be sentenced to scare you, in an effort to ruin your life, destroy your health and everything you have worked hard to achieve and to silence you so that you can never challenge the Cult status of UKIP or it deified ultimate power – Nigel Farage!
If you are lucky few ex UKIP members, who have seen through the lies, bullying and the smoke and mirrors that are Nigel Farage’s cult will eventually contact you to tell you how much UKIP and Nigel were boasting in advance how they set you up, how you will be jailed, how articles who will appear about your conviction are written long before your conviction by UKIP Press Officer, saturated with a pack of lies and dishonest distortions, the implication being how crazy you are, how dangerous you are and above all how you should not be contacted.
The arrogance of UKIP’s leadership is undeniable as is their hubris with regard to their duty of representation of the electorate but the back stabbing and plotting is an omnipresent stench that poisons the soul of UKIP and any hope they might carry out their duty.

And I am the lucky one.  I am still here writing this (despite massive heart failure, inability to walk properly, breathe properly and limited chances of long term survival, brought about by the abuse and the stress of defending myself from these evil people), others are in hiding, too scared to say anything, some with medically recognised depression and some in desperate situations. Even members of the inner sanctum of UKIP such as Annabelle Fuller have been hugely harmed by their association with the Farage Cult and has described herself as having mental problems, and clearly she has attention seeking behaviour patterns.

Finally, you are right, you do not have to listen to a single word I have said today and feel free to do with your life whatever you want to.  I am just writing to warn you in advance or at least give you the opportunity to read this much later – Mr Carswell at least you will have been warned just what kind of mistake you made some 48 hours ago.

With my very best wishes,

So Will Ukip’s Biggest Backer, Stuart Wheeler, Dump Farage’s Cult following & status & Back Boris Johnson, having raised the profile, and even possibly installing Douglas Carswell at leader of the Ukip rump to facilitate an amalgamation?

.

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
the body language of Nigel Farage, in the walk about in Clacton, belies his braying tones of confidence.
Nigel Farage, leader of Ukip
It does seem all too plain why Farage & his cult may well look worried!
Clearly Douglas Carswell stands every possibility of outshining Nigel Farage’s 21 years of failure to get elected as an MP at Westminster by riding on his Tory popularity that gave him a 12,500 majority in his Clacton constituency. A constituency all too well suited to Ukip and their personality cult as shown at CLICK HERE.
Well may Farage look worried as the last time Ukip had an MP representing them at Westminster was when Bob Spink defected to Ukip also from the Tories and also from an Essex constituency where Essex man seems all too willing to succumb to the blandishments of Ukip’s brand of personality cult soft racism and upholding of arcane values of anti homosexuality, chauvenism and outdated fantasies of what they claim are British values – which are all too distant from the truth when one looks at Ukip’s track record of lies, corruption and bullying, so redolent of the SNP on whom they are so closely modelled it would seem!
It was not long before Bob Spink realised the folly of his ways and scrabbled to disassociate himself from Farage’s style of populism, for the sake of his personal reputation which fell in tatters at the next election!
These were not the only slaps in the face Nigel Farage has had to go with the embarrassment that the only seats Ukip has ever come within a sniff of at Westminster were gifted by the Tory voters of Essex – Now we see Ukip’s biggest backer the professional gambler and old Etonian Stuart Wheeler, who has been attributed the accolade of having engineered Douglas Carswell’s defection to Ukip, though in reality that may have much more to do with a fit of pique and the hissy fit of a thwarted drama quenn when denied a room in the main hotel at the Tory conference than much else.
Though it is widely rumoured that a phone call to Stuart Wheeler the night before he de3fected may well have clinched the deal spurred on by a promise that his electoral expenses would be covered by the millionaire and even the promise of either the clandestine support and funding of a bid for leadership or even a display of overt support to become the leader to make Ukip more palatable to the Tories in a sell out as partners in a coalition when Boris Johnson assumes the mantle of leader should David Cameron be forced out for his bungling of the Scottish referendum or his failure to gain a clear majority in the General Election of 2015.
It can not make sleeping east for Nigel Farage whether at The East India Club or sleeping around EUrope any too east to know that even with his cult following Ukip’s most notable backer ever would seemingly dump him in a heartbeat were Boris Johnson to come to power or challenge for the leadership of the Tories.
Dented as this must leave Farage’s huge ego so many members of his cult are enriched by his position as leader or have hopes of preferment to the gravy train in his gift:
EU MEP Cartoon 03It is all to likely that this will, as when Bob Spink quit in disgust, end in tears – It is even more likely that as Ukip has no room for any ego but Farage’s it will end with blood on the carpet under which for all too long Farage and his cult devotees has swept their soiled behaviour!
Be minded that over the years Farage has built a dedicated veritable army who largely oppose the rabble of ner do wells he has gathered around him, in his efforts to try to shine CLICK HERE or HERE
It is becoming ever more clear the media have little but contempt for Farage using him as a usefull pawn with which to bait the Tories save the likes of Russia Today, Alex Jones, Fox News and various conspiracy THEORISTS who find increasingly his style of schoolboy sneer and bully politics apeals to the underbelly of society just as Alex Salmond does in Scotland!
Increasingly both Farage and Salmond are dependent on those who seek the destruction of these United Kingdoms and are all too willing to bully and bray to achieve it, taking us back in time to a period of divisin and ensuring hatred and poverty if they achieve their aims – I have campaigned tirelessly in the way I am able to oppose membership of the EU and to extricate Britain from its malign clutches only to find that after 21 years of climbing the greasy pole to get their snouts in the trough Ukip have still not the vaguest concept of an honourable exit and survival strategy relative to the EU leaving EUroSceptics and EUroRealists alike bereft of a party to support, that stands the vaguest chance of winning a referendum to Leave_The_EU in the face of the absolute inevitability of the use of FUD (Fear, Uncertaint & Doubt) and the relentless campaigning of the political elite that seeks to keep their snots in the troughs on the odious EU Gravy Train.
JUDAS_GOAT 01We are however surrounded by ‘Judas Goats’!
Leading The Ill Informed To The Slaughter!
I would rejoin Tories… but only with Boris as a leader, says mastermind who plotted coup from his castle
  • Stuart Wheeler lit the fuse on the ‘Carswell coup’ over a secret lunch
  • He has been wining and dining a number of dissatisfied Tory MPs
  • Former Tory said he would not return to the party with Cameron as leader
  • But that could change if Boris took over and brought in Ukip-friendly policies
By Glen Owen for The Mail on Sunday
The Ukip donor who helped to mastermind the stunning defection of Douglas Carswell would consider switching back to the Conservatives if Boris Johnson became leader, he said yesterday.
Stuart Wheeler, the multi-millionaire former Tory stalwart who lit the fuse on the ‘Carswell coup’ over a secret lunch, would not return to the Conservatives with David Cameron as leader.
But that could change if Boris took over and introduced Ukip-friendly policies.
Wheeler dealer: Mr Wheeler, left, has been wining and dining disaffected Tory MPs – a process which culminated in last week’s bombshell announcement by Douglas Carswell, right, that he was defecting
Mr Wheeler, a former Tory donor who was expelled from the party in 2009 after diverting his funding to Ukip, has been wining and dining disaffected Tory MPs – a process which culminated in last week’s bombshell announcement.
One senior Tory, Mr Wheeler now reveals, was even wooed by being invited to his 17th Century Jacobean castle.
Dan Hannan, an MEP socially and ideologically close to Mr Carswell, has stayed at the Grade I listed Chilham Castle in Kent where Mr Wheeler lives with wife Tessa and their three daughters, including the Vogue model Jacquetta.
In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Mr Wheeler explained how he had held court with ‘potential defectors’ at discreet lunch venues.
‘I wrote to about ten Eurosceptic Tory MPs saying “Would you like to have lunch with me? Just the two of us, an out-of-the-way restaurant, we won’t be seen. The only other person who will know is Nigel”. And Douglas was one of them.’
He dined with Mr Carswell two years ago at Central London’s Pearl restaurant, which food critics say offers a ‘sensual dining experience’ involving dishes such as scallops, squid  and lamb Wellington.
Mr Wheeler said he would not rejoin the Tories while David Cameron was leader
But he said that might change if Boris got the top job
‘We discussed everything to do with the EU and Cameron’s leadership,’ said Mr Wheeler.  ‘I don’t think I said “How about defecting?” but I would have said “Would you like to meet Nigel Farage?” And now he has.
‘My guess is that he only made his final decision a fortnight ago.’
Mr Wheeler, 79, who made his £90 million fortune in the spread betting industry, refuses to divulge the names of the other MPs he lunched – including two he believes are ‘close to’ following Mr Carswell in defecting – but he is an admirer of former Defence Secretary Liam Fox, former Shadow Home Secretary David Davis and rebellious Tory MP Jesse Norman.
He invited former Tory deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft, but the peer declined on the grounds that it would ‘not be appropriate’.
Mr Wheeler said: ‘There are a lot of Tories I admire. An MEP I greatly admire is Dan Hannan. He has been to stay with me in Kent,’ said Mr Wheeler, adding that he couldn’t remember what was discussed but: ‘I am sure we discussed the EU and everything like that’.
Mr Hannan stated last week that he did not intend to defect to Ukip.
No 10 is furious with Mr Wheeler, arguing that his ‘turncoat’ actions are helping to split the right-wing vote and could allow Ed Miliband to win next year’s General Election.
But Mr Wheeler refutes their analysis. ‘I don’t think it is going to be like that. Labour is terrified of us.
There are a lot of Labour constituencies, particularly in the North, where we are a close second and the Tories are a long way behind – it would be greatly to the advantage of the Tories if we take the seat. So I don’t think it is likely to let Labour in, as the Tories are so keen to put about’.
What could the Tories do to persuade him to return to the fold and bring Ukip voters with him?
‘Well, perhaps if Mr Cameron said “You are right, Stuart, we should be campaigning to leave the EU and introduce grammar schools and I was wrong about climate change [existing]”.
‘But that’s something which is undoubtedly not going to happen. And I think I would prefer not to have David Cameron as a leader either.’
He sees an obvious, stand-out alternative.
‘Boris Johnson would be best for getting votes. However, him being leader is not enough in itself – if Boris introduced those policies [on the EU, grammar schools and climate change] then I should think there would quite likely be a deal between the Conservatives and Ukip. But that is not going to happen’.
The businessman said he also rates former Environment Secretary Owen Paterson and Jesse Norman as potential Tory leaders.
Mr Wheeler –  who added that he regards Mr Carswell as a potential future Ukip leader – knows that the ‘Carswell coup’ has caused panic in No 10. ‘We have got them rattled,’ he said. ‘They should be rattled.’
Hi,
unfortunately UKip has proved time and time again that its candidate selection processes are incompetent and inadequate – one need only note the low grade of most of its MEPs to realise just how unfit for purpose UKip is with so very few candidates with any background experience fit for the job.
No amount of rhetoric and confrontational insults and slogans can act as a substitute for the gravitas and expertise required to act to represent the electorate, in a manner that acquits their duty.
Can YOU imagine, in the light of widely reported behaviour by UKip elected individuals and their staff and the numerous allegations of corruption and abuse of public funds including the jailing of UKip MEPs and the well publicised instances of orders to repay money obtained from the public purse including some £36K embezzeled by UKip MEP Tom Wise, somewhere between £30 & £100K procured by UKip MEP Derek Clark, Numerous £1,000s ordered repaid by UKip Leader Nigel Farage, similarly UKip MEP Graham Booth and former leader and UKip MEP Jeffrey Titford.
Also it is worth remembering that The Sunday Times filmed UKip MEP Stuart Agnew not only admitting that he and the then UKip MEP David Bannerman used public funds unlawfully to fund UKip NEC member and Regional Organiser Peter Reeve. In the same filmed interview he solicited donations from a member of the public of a substantial amount and confirmed that UKip leader the snti Islamic racist Malcolm Lord Pearson would arrange the effective laundering of the donation to obfuscate its source.
The chairman of one of Cambridgeshire County Council’s biggest spending committees is to be replaced after being diagnosed with “severe dyslexia”.
UKIP Councillor Paul Clapp of Wisbech has been forced to accept his replacement as chairman of the adults committee following a threatened vote of no confidence by the group leaders of the four other political parties at Shire Hall.
Council leader Steve Count together with Lib Dem leader Councillor Maurice Leeke, Labour leader Councillor Paul Sales and Independent Leader Councillor John Hipkin all signed a vote of no confidence letter to the chief executive Mark Lloyd.
They said they did not “undertake such action lightly or with any personal malice but purely out of concern for the reputation and efficiency of the council”.
They claimed that Cllr Clapp was
•struggling to cope with the role
•forgetting to call for votes on committee items
•failing to realise when the next item should be introduced
•reading recommendations from different items to that being debated
•is generally failing to ensure the meeting follows due process
The letter claims the role of chairman is also to work with officers on strategic issues “and we simply do not believe that the current chairman is experienced enough to do this at a very difficult and important time”.
Cllr Clapp said he had accepted a statement to be issued by his group leader, Councillor Paul Bullen, which will recommend a change in chairmanship from the October meeting of the council.
It is intended Cllr Clapp will swap places with health committee member and spokesman UKIP Councillor Sandra Rylance of Chatteris. He take her place on the health and wellbeing board.
Cllr Bullen said: “The swap is being recommended to help support Councillor Clapp who has had a recent diagnosis of severe dyslexia.
“While this means he finds it hard to cope with the amount of paperwork a chairman needs to deal with and read it also gives him vital insight for his new role on health. “Equally Councillor Rylance, with a background in caring, will be an ideal chairman for the adults committee. The council will be supporting Councillor Clapp following the recent diagnosis.”
Cllr Clapp said the recent diagnosis had been “a great surprise” to him but he denied he had failed to chair committees to a high standard.
He said: “For all of last year I was chairman of the children’s and young people’s committee and everyone was very pleased with the work I did.”
Prior to becoming a councillor his outside work had included 10 years as a youth worker which, ironically, had included helping young people cope with dyslexia.
He said: “Effectively we were pushed into a corner since we would have not succeeded against a vote of no confidence. It’s left a bitter taste.”
He added that he would be speaking out at a national UKIP conference on the issue and hoped to win support from those who believe people with dyslexia face discrimination.
The letter to Mr Lloyd from the four party leaders spoke of the “potential negative effects” of having a chairman with an “apparent lack of experience and understanding”.
It added: “The council has to be perceived as a knowledgeable, credible and well run organisation.” Cllr Clapp “clearly has relevant personal knowledge in both children and adult services…..but we have seen no evidence of any ability to take a strategic view for the good of the residents of Cambridgeshire.”
In the light of the serial abuses of public monies and criminal behaviour of senior figures in UKip when will these abuses be recognised for what they are rather than some sort of endearing cheeky chappie in some way acceptably on the make and the take!
It is also interesting to note the listed donations to UKip (those that have not been obfuscated!) on the Electoral Commission web site – this led me to speculate on the identity and legitimacy of the donation from Michael Savage – could this be a clandestine way of his paying for the support of the extremist anti Islamic campaigner and prominent Zionist Lord Pearson sometime UKip leader as a puppet for Nigel Faragewho has a record of laundering donations for UKip as we note that Lord Pearson has been campaigning in the House of Lords for the lifting of the ban preventing the extremist anti homosexual Michael Savage from entering these United Kingdoms?
It is the endless stream of inappropriate behaviour from UKip staff, candidates and elected officials, of which the above is but the tip of the iceberg, that clearly shows they are unfit for office consider also:
IN RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTS OF ‘Thomas Evans (UKIP)’
14:15hrs. 31-Sep-2014
Thomas Evans, by incorporating UKIP in his name, implies he wishes to speak for and as UKIP yet makes a denial of this in his personal data on Twitter!
I can only assume his confusion spills into other areas of his life!
Hi,
Thank you:
Thomas Evans (UKIP)
tombo1984@gmail.com
for taking the trouble to put your opinion, unsound & offensive as it clearly is, as I will seek to help you to see below.
Firstly let us start with the last item first, where you dishonestly seek to claim I am a Labour supporter!!!
Clearly your information is low grade Ukip propaganda in keeping with so much else that emanates from the largely dishonest and corrupt leadership & claque of Ukip.
Let’s see. The main subject article is a decision taken by ALL the political groups and the council.
I’m glad you noticed that – had Ukip been somewhat more competent and fit for purpose it would have become aware of the personal difficulties this candidate was likely to experience and found a more suitable role for him and a more suitable candidate for public office – thereby avoiding embarrassment for the candidate and ridicule for UKip.
It also appears that the individual in question agreed to it so not sure what the problem is?
Clearly the problem is as I stated – Ukip selection process was inadequate and in terms of intellect & gravitas their leadership and its claque are unfit for purpose.
As for the rest…Janice Atkinson foolishly lost her temper with a group of 3 silly girls abusing her, other canvassers and members of the public. The 3 trouble makers in question were Green Party members who were also members of the UAF. They were holding placards calling UKIP members “fascists” and had been following Janice around for 3 days.
Clearly you endorse my opinion that Ukip MEP Janice Atkinson is unfit for the job and unable to conceal her obscene responses nor able to control her temper – This overtly racist and foul mouthed woman is hardly suitable material for a politician with internastional duties representing Britain!
The second picture. Those toys were being sold in most major shops at the time of the release of the book so a non-story.
Perhaps you are unaware that Bill Etheridge was dumped by the Tories for his racist style and use of Golliwogs – However Ukip were all too willing to take this buffoon on board in an attempt to belittle the Tories – You might also be unaw3are of his openly made claim that he was joining Ukip to become an MEP within 3 years, a position he stood no chance of gaining in the Tories as they have a rather more professional approach to representing the electorate!
Third picture down is obviously a printing error.
Clearly you are unaware of the claims of the candidate himself!
Further I am only too happy to accept it was a proofing error, however the standard of Ukip’s candidate is more than adequately displayed by the fact that he used the poster without realising, despite his/her protestations aftwer the event. An indication of the unprofessional nature of Ukip’s leadership, claque and candidates.
Fourth picture down, Tom Wise was kicked out of UKIP in 2007! 7 years ago?!
This is just a barefaced lie on your part, whether deliberate or in ignorance I know not. Tom Wise WAS NOT kicked out of the party – Tom Wise remained a member of Ukip and even paid off some of Ukip’s leaders bills with money he had embezelled, money Nigel Farage knew to be unlawfully obtained!
Tom Wise quit Ukip when his membership ran out and despite letters to him encouraging him to rejoin and also seeking donations from him HE CHOSE to quit Ukip.
Do check you facts, before peddling the party’s dishonest propaganda.
Fifth picture down has been pretty immaturely edited.
IF it is a Photoshop picture it is widely on the internet and also sadly all too true of Ukip – such that many find it rather macabrely humorous.
Sixth picture down, so what if she is German, UKIP have members from numerous nations from Poland to Pakistan!
You will note I made absolutely no allusion to Kirsten Farage’s German origins, though for a party so adamant that foreigners should not hold jobs that take jobs from British citizens it was hardly a PR coup for Farage to employ a German.
Far more importantly it is the utter dishonesty of Ukip’s leadership in that Farage himself promised on Meridian TV and no doubt elsewhere, in order to get himself elected, that no Ukip elected individual would ever employ family members!
Farage later said, when exposed for his dishonesty in employing his wife on a salary approaching £30K, when even his own constituency office were unaware she was on the payrole funded from the public purse and had no idea of any work she might be doing for Ukip, it was claimed by Farage that the ONLY reason she was employed by him was because of the unsociable hours and frequently found herself showing him how to use a computer late at night in her night dress!
Are we to assume that is why she is now employed by Nigel Farage’s goffer & fixer Ray Finch now a Ukip MEP! Or is it more likely that she is thus paid either by way of bribery or to evade EU rules guarding tax payers’ money – OR possibly both!
Seventh picture was an immature accusation made by a bitter mentally unstable individual who was kicked out of the party and has since been charged with expenses fraud! The media tried it along with a follow-up article and they were both laughed off.
Perhaps you know Nikki Sinclaire, but it would seem you know absolutely nothing about her – there is every reason to believe that Ms. Sinclaire has an absolute defence of ‘Veritas’ regarding her denounciation of Nigel Farage employing his wife on a salary disproportionate to any apparent work she does for Ukip after his promises which he broke and the fact that Annabelle Fulller is widely believed to have been one of Nigel Farage’s mistresses or at very least one of his sexual partners. A fact confirmed by Nigel Farage’s flatmate, of several years standing, Godfrey Bloom when he publicly told the idiotic Herman Kelly not to be so foolish as to threaten him regarding his knowledge of Farage’s sexual liasons as he would bankrupt the party.
That Ukip and its leaders have openly and deliberately lied regarding Nikki Sinclaire and have already lost one High Court Judgement against her and a tribunal and further have been openly and officially censured for their abuse of her – perehaps you would care to justify your unprincipled and unfounded comments about her as I am certain you lack the integrity to apologise.
Further it is widely believed that John Ison together with Nigel Farage’s sewer rat Mark Croucher liased on Farage’s interests to deliberately embroil Nikki Sinclaire in a fraud of their making to try to discredit her – just as was done by Gerard Batten in his dishonest efforts to have me prosecuted for factual and honest comments and opinions which I wrote about him.
Thus, in view of the widespread corruption of Ukip’s leadership and its claque I am inclined also to believe they deliberately lied about Jasna Badzak to obtain a dishonest conviction for the implausible claim she set out to defraud Batten – a claim made with the collusion of what seem to be corrupt Metropolitan Police and a judge without the ethics to prorogue himself as an associate of individuals involved in the prosecution and in which a guilty verdict was obtained based on a clear lack of credible evidence and a crass summing up by the judge who may well have presented the spin out of partisan affiliation with the prosecution.
Labour Party members really do have to much time on there hands than to create a website like this.
To return to the first point I made – I trust you will have the integrity to withdraw the implied lie you have seen fit to publish and to apologise for the fact that you seem to claim that my blog is in some way sponsored by the Labour Party! – Though I doubt I will receive the apposite apology, as Ukip’s liars are notoriously incapable of admitting their dishonesty and corruption.
Why don’t you take a closer look at your own councils.
Clearly a foolish and inaccurate implication that I am in some way allied to a rival political party or Council! My local councils are Monmouthshire & Forest of Dean – on the latter I believe UKip have the distinction of having a councillor best known for his conviction as a shop lifter in one of the Forest towns and most clearly no one of any stature though one UKip councillor has been subject of some public censure for his misguided comments!
I must admit I am unaware of anyone of ability in Monmouthshire who represents UKip.
I trust you and others who have swallowed the dishonest propaganda from UKip whole and unchecked will be better informed when seeking to regurgitate their irresponsible and corrupt mantras.
Regards,
Greg_L-W.
FARAGE, Nigel 94 ORCHESTRATING A DEFECTION 01Douglas Carswell Supplies Another Instrument For The One Man Band
This article about Douglas Carswell’s profligacy with other peoples’ money does at least show just how well he will fit in with UKip and their unaccountable, corrupt and often criminal abuse of public money.
MPs’ expenses: Douglas Carswell claimed £700 in expenses for love seat
Douglas Carswell, the Conservative backbencher who spearheaded the campaign to depose Michael Martin as Commons Speaker, claimed £655 from his expenses for a love seat.
The MP for Harwich said on Tuesday that the money had been well spent because his wife had recently given birth.
Mr Carswell, who has made his name as an anti-sleaze campaigner, made the claim after switching the designation of his second home to a property in his constituency, having claimed thousands of pounds for a London flat.
He initially designated the £1 million flat in south west London as his second home after being elected in 2005. He claimed more than £21,000 for a deposit, rent, food and furniture over 15 months.
The MP then began renting a £335,000 house in Thorpe Le Soken, Essex, in March 2007, and designated this as his second home. He again paid for the security deposit from his expenses.
He then used his allowances to pay for furniture, including the £655 “Maximus” love seat in deep moss brushed cotton, with extra fabric protection from sofa.com. Mr Carswell lives at the house with his wife, Clementine.
He said: “I bought the love seat and bed when moving into the home with my future wife. We have since got married and have had our first baby.”
Since the couple moved in, Mr Carswell has claimed a total of £32,000 in expenses related to the house.
He also owns a property in Hertfordshire, which he rents out. Mrs Carswell sold her flat in south-west London for £500,000 last year.
The MP bills taxpayers for the entire rent of £1,250 per month and £2,280 annual council tax bills for the Essex house.
Since moving in, he has also claimed £1,605 for two sofas and £1,483 for a bed, mattress and chairs from ILVA.
He spent a further £700 for bedding and household extras at Peter Jones and The White Company.
Mr Carswell also claimed £453 for a fridge freezer, £400 for a washing machine, £99 for a garden strimmer and bin, and £377 for a radio, telephone, vacuum cleaner, iron and television.
In November 2007, he claimed £429 for four days’ worth of gardening.
He also claimed for a range of items bought at Tesco, including a 74p washing line.
Mr Carswell rose to prominence in April last year when he became the first MP to publicly call for Mr Martin to resign over his decision to instigate a legal challenge to keep the details of MPs’ expenses secret.
He criticised the Speaker for his handling of the row over MPs’ expenses and for his failure to restore the integrity of Parliament. “Never has there been such bitter contempt for politicians or the standing of MPs been so low,” he wrote at the time.
“We need to clean up Westminster politics and take action to restore faith in our political system.” Mr Carswell, who worked as an adviser to David Cameron in the run-up to the 2005 election, last month tabled a no-confidence motion against Mr Martin.
Although the motion was not debated, it was widely credited with having helped prompt the Speaker’s decision to resign later this month.
Last night Mr Carswell told The Daily Telegraph: “I have never used public money to pay a private mortgage. I have instead rented.
“It is true that I bought an armchair, sofa and some bedding, as well as a few other modest items of crockery and furniture. I believe this is entirely justified.”
“Before making every claim, I have asked myself not only ‘is it within the rules’, but ‘can I justify this to my local constituents’. In every instance I believe I can,” he said.
So it seems there was no room at the Inn for the Tory Conference for the self proclaimed Messiah of the Tory Back Bench EUSceptics!
Well I guess by defecting Douglas Carsdale will have the advantage that his expenses will fall in line with UKip’s and be largely unaccountable. He will not only be assured of a room at the main UKip conference Hotel and be made to feel important but may even be able to follow in Farage’s footsteps and open an Isle of Man account to help his tax position though whether he will be able to emulate Farage and deposit £1/4Million in it will depend what share of his wife’s flat he was able to obtain, he will at least be able to have his wife employed by one of the other UKip functionaries I expect.
Though one can respect Carswell, having had his little temper tantrum and inviting Farage to his Press Conference, for having offered his resignation from the Tories for his last 8 months as a Tory MP though whether the tax payers consider the basic cost of around £1/4Million for a by-election good value for money is another point!
We hear that Stuart Wheeler, as a sponsor of UKip, had wined and dined Carswell and a few other potential defectors, as he saw them, doubtless he proffered their election expenses as a douceur for those willing to betray the Tories as he had done.
Although proclaimed by his fan club as a man of principles it does seem that principally this man seeks his own rewards.
It seems all too likely that the by-election will fall for Nigel Farage and no doubt he wishes he could have a by election in Thanet as by elections are so much easier for the opposition or even extremist fringe to win as they are always seen as a means to register a protest vote without being taken too seriously as Janet Akinson so ably displayed in the EUropean electoral farce:
ATKINSON, Janice 02as she and a host of other electoral nonentities and ner do wells were elected.
Whether Douglas Carswell stands a chance of hanging onto his seat at a General Election is another matter, as the electorate tend not to value a self serving drama queen when the chips are down in a real election – as we have seen so consistently with the collapse of the UKip vote whenever a General Election comes around.
There will also be those angered by his behaviour in risking the chances of a referendum, which he so praised David Cameron for although he himself failed to make any effort to gain one neither campaigning for it nor signing the petition which brought it about – as with Nigel Farage who did all his advocacy of a petition AFTER Nikki Sinclaire had handed in the petition she had raised of 220,000 signatures thereby gaining a full debate on the issue in the House of Commons! Farage had in fact done all he could to sabotage the petition thus helping Cameron to ensure Britain remained in the EU!
For more details of just how contrarian is Carswell’s betrayal of his own principles can be seen if you CLICK HERE
Police Abuse of Power Redolent of Nikki Sinclaire’s 29 Months on Bail showing the intimidatory arogance and hubris and the slovenly style of policing so common in Police States!
.
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.

Hi,

it is sad to note the collapse in ethics and behaviour of Britain’s police services, once the envy of the world!

The main article below is all too similar to the standards of ethics and integrity of police forces in third world police states wher over equipped police waddle around full of their own importance, with a lack of understanding that they are NOT the servants of the state but of the people!

That policiong standards are in free fall in Britain are all too apparent one need only note the 30 or so police murders by armed police executing citizens when in Britain, rightly or wrongly, there is no death penalty!

Ignoring the more vile cases of abuse permit me to lead examples similar to that in the article of which I am all too well aware:

Consider the case of Nikki Sinclaire MEP for the West Midlands until the recent election, she was arrested on the pretext of allegations regarding supposed missuse of expenses based on what seemed all too apparently to be the lies of John Ison who having been dismissed would seem to have burgled her office and stolen confidential paperwork. Nikki Sinclaire was held on bail for 29 months in which she wasnot questioned in any detail by police yet it was acceptable for the corrupt in UKip to constantly make accusations regarding her status leading to great damage to any campaign for re-election. Was this just shoddy policing or even more seriously a case of corrupt or political policing for it is certain it proved the addage that ‘ Justice delayed is Justice denied’!

Then there is my own experience where based on toltally dishonest lies from the UKip MEP Gerard Batten I was ordered to apear at Chepstow Police Force or be arrested to surrender to about 3 hours of cross examination under caution – it was clear that the local police were acting at the demand of The Metropolitan Police, which the local police confirmed.
At the end of the interview, when it was clear there was absolutely no case to answer merely efforts to contrive a claim based on lies and misrepresentations, unsubstantiated by any evidence, from Gerard Batten.
To this date, sojme two years, I have received no appology nor any further comment from the police on the matter – neither appologising for their gul;libility nor for their shoddy behaviour.

The Police then make complaint that many consider them to be little more than a rabble of over paid, over pensioned plebs and bemoan the fact they no longer receive the support of the people they serve! Little wonder.

Then there is the case of a friend of mine who moved from London, closing his successful business to relocate to the North West where he set up with his wife and child as an Independent Teacher and academic coach. Suddenly his home was raided and his teaching material and computers were seized – then came rumours and allegations that his computers were being searched for child pornography – thus ensuring the collapse of his new business.
Some 2 years later his computers were returned to him with no further action! The police, seemingly acting in collusion with the interests of a local dignatary were only too willing to destroy an innocent man’s business and risk his marriage, his health and his family!

I feel sure that at least 50% of thinking readers of this article can easily think of similar examples of which they know – not just the well publicised murders, never challenged or the abuse of public figures!

Long-term bail allows lazy police and prosecutors to leave cases to gather dust

Where are the checks and balances to make sure power isn’t being abused?

There is a story, possibly apocryphal, that when Andrew Mitchell unearthed evidence that he had been “framed” by Downing Street police, he wanted to make a statement saying: “This is outrageous. How can the police do this to me? I am Cabinet minister.”

But after he was persuaded by an astute colleague to alter it, he said: “If this can happen to a senior minister, then what chance does a youth in Brixton have?”

I was struck by this distinction last week in relation to a different police investigation of which, indirectly, I had knowledge. It concerns a journalist, a friend of mine, who was arrested as part of the Metropolitan Police’s phone hacking investigation.

I have been outraged at how he has been treated, and, while he is a friend, I think there is a wider issue of public concern.

The basic facts are these: in 2012 the Times journalist Patrick Foster was accused during the Leveson Inquiry of “hacking” into an email account run by an anonymous police blogger three years before in 2009.

He was said to have used the “hack” to identify the blogger – which resulted in the policeman being identified. Furthermore Mr Foster was accused of providing a misleading statement to the High Court when the policeman tried to take out an injunction to stop his name being published. Such allegations were bound to come to the attention of the police and rightly so. But the manner in which they conducted their investigation should be unacceptable in any society governed by the rule of law.

After the allegations became public Mr Foster wrote a letter to the police promising to answer any questions. They confirmed it was “highly likely” that they would want to speak to him and would “make arrangements as necessary”.

Seven months later those “arrangements” turned out to be a dawn raid at his home. He was interviewed under caution and placed on police bail and told to return several months hence to find out if he was to be charged.

At the time, Mr Foster was working as a freelance journalist – and that work quickly dried up under the suspicion. When he returned to the police station he was bailed again for several more months. Then again. Then again.

That went on for two years during which time he was unable to work or plan and had to wait every three months to find out if he were to face charges.

It was not a complicated case; all the information was in the public domain or available to the police before his arrest. At no stage has he been given any explanation for the delay.

Last week the police offered him a caution for committing a technical breach of the Computer Misuse Act. He still maintains he was innocent and believes that if he had rejected it no charges would have followed.

So why does this matter? How does it pass the Brixton test? Well, because last year around 3,000 other people were held on police bail for one to three years. There are no time limits, no judicial oversight and no proper checks and balances on the police to make sure power is not being abused.

It allows lazy police and prosecutors to leave cases to gather dust. It allows a form of punishment by default, even though we believe in the principle of innocent until proven guilty. And in any civilised society that has to be unjust.

To go back to Andrew Mitchell, this is not about special pleading for journalists (or politicians). It is an issue that should concern us all and needs to be urgently addressed.

.

Regards,

Greg_L-W..
