The corruption of EUkip’s leadership,

An Incisive Analysis of UKIP by AutonomousMinds featuring the meeting at Telford to promote the MEP candidacy of Jill Seymore, who has in the past made it very clear that she would be far out of her depth as an MEP which is almost impossible to disagree with but then again there is no one on the list for the West Midlands who offers any hope or signs of competence – largely in keeping with the rest of The Farage cult’s candidates!!

.
Hi,

I found this article a well presented summary of many views which I share:

This should be of concern to every person who wants the UK to leave the EU

On 5th September, UKIP held what it described as its biggest ever rally as 900 people gathered to listen to Nigel Farage and others speak.

The event received a write up in the Shropshire Star, which covered the key points made by the speakers.  Those people who have looked or will look at the report in the expectation of seeing some red meat on the subject of withdrawal from the EU and plans for how such an exit can be delivered, can be forgiven for feeling some disappointment.  The report shows the EU barely warranted a mention, and when it did it wasn’t Farage talking about it.

Being a curious sort, this prompted me to have a discussion about it with a highly placed source in the party.  They confirmed that EU matters were only mentioned in passing, but more revealingly explained that after the event Farage was delighted that the focus on the biggest political issue affecting the UK – membership of the EU and its consequences – was minimal.  It wasn’t an accident, it was by design.

While David Cameron talked the talk in imploring his Conservative members to stop ‘banging on about Europe’, Farage is walking the walk by doing just that.

Previous insights provided to me by well placed UKIP sources, one of whom has just landed on the party’s MEP candidate list for next year’s elections, asserted that Farage is more interested in building a rival to the Conservatives in the hope of splitting that party and capturing a segment of it, than pushing for an exit from the EU.  The new focus on emulating the targeted campaign approach used by the Liberal Democrats, in order to win a few seats rather than putting resources into all constituencies, confirms their assessments.

But what should cause even more concern for withdrawal realists – who understand leaving the EU while preserving the UK’s commercial interests requires a structured approach where Article 50 is invoked and agreement is reached on the relationship the UK will have with the EU after departure, before the European Communities Act (ECA) is repealed – is my source’s confirmation that Farage sees such a negotation as time consuming and an opportunity for EU meddling.  Farage, who has carefully straddled the fence in public by not siding for or against the Article 50 route despite a clear split in his party on the matter, in private advocated the scorched earth approach of leaving first and trying to negotiate something after, which would leave UK commercial interests at serious risk of damage.

This represents a serious threat to an ‘out’ campaign in any future referendum on EU membership.  The withdrawalists would come under incessant attack from the business community which would only look kindly on withdrawal if they could be assured their interests would be protected after the UK leaves the EU.  The Farage approach does not and cannot give that assurance.  In the meantime, Farage will not let UKIP announce its policy and approach for fear it will alienate a substantial number of UKIP members and will see the party exposed to (justified) attack from the Europhiles who will seize on such naive stupidity with alacrity.

What this demonstrates is that, once again, a political party created to achieve a particular end has compromised itself to service internal party maintenance and management.  As Norway showed during its referendum campaign on EU membership, a non party political campaign is the only way of ensuring the objectives are not watered down or jettisoned in favour of a party’s interests.

By way of a closing thought, if you think it is ridiculous that an anti EU party such as UKIP could be pulled off to focus on other things at the whim of its leader in this way, then consider for yourself the evidence that Farage is reversing from EU matters as part of his dream of being a British MP and leading a party in Parliament.  In the Evening Standard we see Tony Blair getting substantial space to set out yet another FUD-laden argument against withdrawing from the EU.  You would think the UKIP leader and by definition the supposed leader of the Eurosceptic movement would be all over this, exposing the misrepresentation, falsehoods and errors in Blair’s and numerous others that have been published in recent weeks and months.

You would think Farage would be demanding a right of reply to set the record straight – or at the very least shotuing loudly that he is being denied a platform.  There is still no counter to this prolonged Europhile line of attack in the media, and certainly nothing rebutting it on the UKIP website.  But Farage did somehow find time to be quoted at length in the Daily Express on High Speed Rail 2… he didn’t even mention the EU origins of the project in order to create a high speed rail network across the union.  I’ll leave it to Farage’s vocal band of supporters to explain how this focus does anything to develop public support for withdrawal from the EU or move us foward on the journey to successfully leaving the union at a time the Europhiles are working the public and winning them over to supporting continued membership.

The implications of this are clear.  The Eurosceptic movement is not being helped by UKIP because Farage’s agenda means he has other fish to fry.  The campaign is weaker as a result.  UKIP should be a standard bearer, it should be the flag ship of the ‘out’ campaign.  But under Farage it has relegated itself to the position of day-tripping passenger on a support vessel.  Do UKIP’s members realise what’s happening, or do they even care?

  1. Richard North 10/09/2013 at 10:55 am

    That really turns UKIP into a bed-blocker. Far from educating the voting public at large, Farage isn’t even reaching his own members. This is the response of a branch chairman to a question on UKIP’s policy to Art 50:

    “My understanding is that Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty is designed to prevent the sheep leaving the fold. We must leave on our own terms, even though we know the technocrats will try to make it as difficult as they can”.

    I suppose, though, that if this is the level of ignorance in the party, it is better if UKIP keep away from EU issues and leaves them to the grown-ups.

  2. Sackerson 10/09/2013 at 11:17 am

    It’s a fork – bank on about the EU and stay on the outside, quieten down on that subject in order to increase your vote and get accused of abandoning your principles. The question is, do you really think Farage has given up Brexit as a goal?

  3. Autonomous Mind 10/09/2013 at 11:55 am

    A couple of points. Where is the sense in going quiet on the EU just as the ‘in’ campaign is dominating the debate? And surely the question to ask is if Farage has Brexit as a goal, what is he doing to bring it about? Finding evidence to support his exit credentials is getting harder all the time. I believe he is leaving EU withdrawal behind for personal reasons.

    In answer to your question, I think Farage will do anything that helps him realise his ambition. If that means turning UKIP into just another mainstream party to help him into Westminster, then I have no doubt he would do whatever suits him.

  4. LeoSavantt 10/09/2013 at 2:20 pm

    The reality of the hustings may have been overlooked in this piece. Connecting with the voter and backing up the EU withdrawal case with other policies that appeal is important and probably necessary to attract votes.

    It works like this, “That Nigel Farage who wants the UK to leave the EU, well he talks a lot of sense on HS2 (etc. etc. etc.), so maybe he’s onto something when it comes to Europe”.

    Furthermore the complexities of withdrawal, via Article 50 or indeed any other means, will remain opaque until the process of withdrawal begins. No one in Brussels or London ever imagined Article 50 would ever be used in anger. Nobody, whether that be the Commission, Council or indeed UKIP can second guess this one. It is simply uncharted territory.

    This is not to say that this issue should not be discussed, and that the possible options, mechanisms and pitfall analysed; but I suggest that for Mr. Farage to publicly raise this issue, at the present juncture, would be both foolish, unnecessary and counter productive.

    First we ideally need the settled will of the people to be firmly in favour of withdrawal and for that to be demonstrated democratically and unequivocally. At this point the UK will presumably play its hand (badly or otherwise).

    However, today we are not even sure if Lisbon will be politically or even legally the most important Treaty. Indeed if Cameron’s timetable is followed, it does seem possible that by 2018 a fully federalised Eurozone could be in-place (assuming that insolvency and civil unrest hasn’t put paid to the centralist agenda). This may well change the dynamic in Europe so that it is a new Treaty, not Lisbon, that federalists will rally around.

    The criticism of Mr. Farage’s strategy is rather harsh, his job is to attract voters and at this stage not to inform them about the technicalities of the possible mechanisms of withdrawal. This is made especially so at this time when even the most prescient would be hard pressed to offer a credible forecast as to how things might actually pan out.

    In light of that Farage, and UKIP’s over all approach of weakening the Conservative Party in its Europhile form at least (and of course to a lesser extent the others) and raising UKIP’s profile on EU and non-EU policy areas is working. So much so that even the President of the United States (whilst remaining philosophically a Europhile) raised the Referendum issue on the steps of the White House. It is UKIP’s rise that has forced the issue onto the agenda. So far their strategy not only looks relatively successful, it is also the only democratic game in town.

    That does not mean those with more in-depth knowledge should not continue to debate, explore, and advise on the consequences, mechanisms and possible outcomes. Or that UKIp’s approach should not be criticised, as it has been consistently done on this site and at both a credible and intellectually coherent level .

    Never-the-less there comes a time, especially as support and electoral success increase, when the politics of analysis and election separate.

    The most important thing is votes cast in the direction of the UK’s withdrawal. With those votes comes moral authority, a force that may prove to be more powerful than Article 50, or indeed any other piece of ill thought out EU legislation (for in reality Lisbon was never designed to be a Treaty but a law within which the powers and functions of the EU were re-codified and increased).

    It seems not unlikely that if, when and indeed how the UK leaves the EU, will be most influenced by the number of votes UKIP can attract in 2014 and the threat to repeat any success in 2015 and then ultimately on the size of any majority in favour of exit, should an IN/OUT be held and won.

    It would seem that without UKIP none of this would be even a faint possibility. I might add that I am not a UKIP member, but it seems to me that you are asking them to jump a relatively distant fence when the electorate are still undecided at the water jump.

  5. Duyfken 10/09/2013 at 3:03 pm

    I am sure AT is right in all that he (and Richard North similarly) says about and criticises UKIP/Farage. For me, Farage has provided a valuable service in promoting EUscepticism and having brought it or helped to bring it to public attention. The success of UKIP now gives concern to the Conservatives and others and it was Farage with his tub-thumping who largely achieved this. For this I am appreciative.

    But that, I know, does not mean he has the ability to lead a mainstream parliamentary party. The difficulty is that we have no alternative at this stage. Just for whom do I vote in the coming European elections and in the subsequent UK GE? None of the main 3 parties is worth considering so it just leaves UKIP or my not voting at all.

    If AT or others have any helpful suggestions. my thanks in advance.

  6. Duyfken 10/09/2013 at 3:04 pm

    Sorry, I meant “AM”.

  7. cosmic 10/09/2013 at 3:20 pm

    LeoSavantt,

    Things can be seen that way.

    However, the view you take depends on how much faith you have in Farage’s initial intent and then steadfastness to remain true to UKIPs primary purpose of leaving he EU.

  8. Autonomous Mind 10/09/2013 at 3:30 pm

    I think Leo has put more strategic thought into one post than Farage has into one year of UKIP activity.

    People don’t seem to grasp that Farage’s priorities are Nigel Farage and money.

    Leo’s argument reminds me of the hundreds of comments on Conservative Home arguing Cameron was only pretending to be a social democrat Europhile and that once in power he would suddenly reveal his inner conservative. We all know what happened there. Why suppose Farage has any more depth than Cameron?

  9. cosmic 10/09/2013 at 4:52 pm

    AM,

    Yes, I was thinking about Cameron the supposed eurosceptic wolf in europhile sheep’s clothing, playing his cards close to his chest. He turned out to be a sheep and a lot of us thought he was nothing else from the outset.

    Being a political party carries temptations and compromises.

    In UKIP’s case it was argued that if they got MEPs they’d ‘go native’ and there’s certainly an argument to be made for that.

    In the case of representation at Westminster, especially with no immediate prospect of power, there has to be the temptation to fit in with the social-democratic consensus and occupy the LibDem niche of being a general protest party – and letting the question of leaving the EU fade into the background.

  10. Niall Warry 10/09/2013 at 8:14 pm

    Most UKIP supporters are I fear politically naive so it is not that they don’t care it is that they just simply don’t know or haven’t worked out what makes Nigel tick.

  11. Nailer 10/09/2013 at 8:32 pm

    @Dufyken

    “…For me, Farage has provided a valuable service in promoting EUscepticism and having brought it or helped to bring it to public attention. The success of UKIP now gives concern to the Conservatives and others and it was Farage with his tub-thumping who largely achieved this…..”

    Well, you’re not wrong. Farage has, to an extent {promoted] EU-scepticism, but what has he done to advance it?

    Can you name a single crowning achievement of any UKIP MEP since 2009?

    No, neither can I.

    No MPs, some county councillors (unless disgraced and resigned), sabotaged mayoral and London Assembly elections… at what point do you wake up and realise it’s a personality cult?

  12. Duyfken 10/09/2013 at 8:59 pm

    @Nailer

    Thanks for the response. I do not take issue with anything you have said but I still have no answer as to how I should vote in forthcoming elections – who else but UKIP?

  13. cosmic 10/09/2013 at 10:22 pm

    @ Dufken

    I vote for them as by far the least worst remotely credible option, but I don’t believe in them as it were. They’re a political party and while we’re stuck with electing one team or another of dictators, there’s no reason to believe UKIP are immune to the forces which made LibLabCon what they are.

    Actually, I don’t even see LibLabCon as elected dictators, more like the current suit worn by the permanent government of civil service, local government, the EU, NGOs, QUANGOs etc., all untouched by elections every five years. The answer I’d say, is some measure of direct democracy where political parties are much reduced in their role, and we’d be far less likely to have the likes of Blair and Cameron taking very unpopular and far-reaching actions on a whim or for completely self-serving reasons.

    The other problem we have is the major players in the political party game having a gentlemens’ agreement not to address certain issues of wide concern, and then fighting over a middle-ground which they feel comfortable with. Is it heretical to suggest that UKIP could be drawn into this if they had enough tribal support?

  14. cosmic 10/09/2013 at 10:30 pm

    @Nial Warry

    Most (enter political party) supporters are I fear politically naive so it is not that they don’t care it is that they just simply don’t know or haven’t worked out what makes (enter first name of leader) tick.

    Admittedly, we do expect far higher standards of UKIP, notionally the outsiders seeking radical change.

  15. Niall Warry 10/09/2013 at 10:34 pm

    Dufyken don’t vote for any of them it only encourages them!!

Subject: FW: Chris PainSorry everyone,

Now we have Total Totalitarianism in UKIP.
TWO NEC MEMBERS THROWN OUT BY STEVE CROWTHER

Already Doug Denny has been thrown out of the NEC by Steve Crowther because he told the truth about the Gerrymandering of the selection process and flagged up at least 4 UKIP rules which were broken to distort the selection process …. but the UKIP Constitution (which I opposed) allows for “retrospective voting” so there can be no court challenge…… unless you like nailing jelly to the ceiling….. Yes I tried!

Here (see below) we have the next NEC member who refuses to stay silent. There are more keeping their heads down and away from Nigels hit squad ..Crowther/Reeve/Fairweather.

Why do we elect NEC members?….. to be threatened by Crowther/Farage or to represent member’s concerns?

You are being told how to vote for MEP candidates by a system that excludes any distraction away from “The Chosen Ones” … the ones who comply without question. Totally excluding in all regions those who have worked hardest for this party.

Kindly and well respected member Alan Sheath a long time UKIP member and over 80 wanted to make his point at the conference in Telford, he asked permission to hand out information, and was threatened by Jill Seymour with the police! (you can see the emails)

I suggest you look further down your voting list of candidates …e.g. Michael Wrench who has done so much work for UKIP, he has a good heart and gets little credit because he is loyal to freedom of thought. Those who submit to one man’s domination are clearly listed at the top of the papers, they are cronies and cronies of cronies.

If you read what Crowther says in the magazine it means he could have saved most candidates the £500… because he already knew who he would choose.

I will be making a more comprehensive report of the hidden issues, bullying and fiddles made in the name of UKIP later.

Obviously I will be standing at the 2014 MEP elections ….. but I am barred by Crowther/Farage from standing for UKIP to defend my own seat.
Yet the UKIP members did not vote against me.

Mike

MIKE NATTRASS MEP

PS I realise that Nigel is the best speaker and a fantastic front man a fantantist performer but not a Leader. I support UKIP policy and as a previous Party Chairman, Deputy Leader and Transport Spokesman I have made some of it. I will however not see UKIP ruined by Totalitarianism, without speaking up…….we beleave in the votes of members, freedom to speak our minds and democracy … the obvious facts now point in a different bullying direction.

WHO INTERVIEWED me? CROWTHER (employee of a fellow candidate) CASSIDY (aged 22 who reports to Crowther as a UKIP employee) and FAIRWEATHER (Nigel’s person and new NEC member) Oh by the way, the NEC thought they agreed that employees would not be interviewing… but we can soon fix that!

Dear NEC members,
I have just received this email after having sent a comprehensive letter covering all of the aspects of my issue earlier today. My deputy leader on the council, was informed by Pete Reeves that I had been thrown out of the party and he was to take over. Has my case been reviewed since my email was sent and a different decision taken.
As this will cause serious damage to our party locally and more importantly effect our vote at the ballot box, can you all please address this as a matter of urgency.

Hi,

in the light of the MP3 phone recording of facts relative to UKIP leadership’s actions in blocking & barring Chris Pain, as reported on this web log, this police outcome would seem to leave UKIP leadership in some difficulty particularly Steve Crowther and his puppet master Nigel Farage.

This exacerbates the very real cause for embarrassment surrounding the rigging of selection processes!

Police to take ‘no further action’ over UKIP racism allegations

Chris Pain

Chris Pain

Lincolnshire Police say there will be ‘no further action’ taken against members of UKIP that were accused of making racist posts on the internet.

Officers have been carrying out investigations in the past few months into members of UKIP, including county leader Chris Pain.

The allegations included complaints that they posted comments, including those of a racist nature, on to social media sites, such as Facebook, and ‘caused or reinforced racial hatred’.

Coun Pain won the Wainfleet and Burgh ward at May’s Lincolnshire County Council elections and leads the UKIP opposition group. He will stand to try to become Boston and Skegness MP at the 2015 General Election.

He and Boston North councillor Tiggs Keywood-Wainwright were accused by campaign group Hope Not Hate of posting ‘racist rants’.

Although the investigation largely centred on alleged posts made by Coun Pain, The Standard understands material from Coun Keywood-Wainwright – who won a by-election in Fenside last week – was also looked at.

A senior detective has reviewed the evidence and decided that no further action will be taken by police against either Mr Pain or the other UKIP members accused.

A spokesman said: “Lincolnshire Police take all allegations of hate crime extremely seriously and, where appropriate, will refer these matters to the Crown Prosecution Service, who, in our experience, take an equally serious stance.

“Police are reliant on there being a sufficient amount of evidence, of a quality which would support a decision to prosecute anyone suspected of carrying out crimes of this nature.

“When dealing with internet based activity there has to be an audit trail which enables us to prove the person who is suspected of displaying information on the Web is actually the person pressing the computer keys.

“There are many factors which make such an investigation very complex. Officers must work with the powers granted under specific legislation and, where the servers and the administration of the sites falls outside the United Kingdom, the police and other enforcement agencies are often unable to obtain the relevant information needed to prove who placed comments or information on one of the sites. This is particularly the case with the main social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook.

“In the world of increasingly technical equipment and expertise, it is always possible for false profiles to be created and information to be posted on a user’s account without their knowledge.

“In such cases, it is very difficult for police to trace the origins of the information and to be sufficiently certaint that the person alleged to be displaying some comment or information actually did so.”

Lincolnshire Police DI Andy Wardell said: “This problem is exacerbated when the social network account is closed by an individual who has either become aware or is directly made aware by someone that comments have been seen and the informant is going to contact the police.

“Fictional police and CSI shows often depict investigations where information in cyber space can be traced instantly but the reality is very different.

“Therefore, if any person discovers information displayed or comments posted to social networking sites which they feel are racist ,or made with the intent of stirring up racism, they should inform the police immediately and not post responses or enter into dialect with the individual believed to have made such racist comments.

“Doing so will inevitably result in the comments being removed and the account closed making it impossible to achieve a satisfactory result with any investigation.”

In UKIP Prof. Alan Sked was Out ManEUvered by Nigel Farage BUT! There are many such ‘buts’ such as but he has been bitter about it ever since, but his interventions since have been self serving ego trips and destructive nihilism, but Farage may be devious and underhand as a rival but he is no leader, merely a performer!!

.

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
the bitter inadequacy of Alan Sked may well be understandable but no one shows more clearly the old adage of ‘All political careers end in failure’.
Having lost control of the party he founded he has spent since 1997 trying to destroy it when others, like myself who support his founding principle of Leave-The-EU and are thus supporters of UKIP, have relentlessly endeavoured to support UKIP by seeking to clean it up, erradicate the corruption and centralisation of power and authority in one man and his claque and make the party fit for purpose.
That it is clear that since defeating Alan Sked Nigel Farage has centralised control and excercised it himself is meerely indicative that he was the stronger individual whether with or without integrity!
Just as Alan Skedd endeavoured to dictate and manipulate the party to fit his ambitions so also has Nigel Farage since he seized control, following on in the same mold as Alan Akedd, his intellectual mentor and rival for 4 years!
UKIP, by dropping itys standards and encouraging populism over responsibility, popularity as a substitute for leadership has taken advantage of the demise of the BNP and swelled its membership and supporters but has ensured its eventual demise by rejecting gravitas and detailed intellectual persuit of the goal to Leave-The-EU bowing to the small minded pressure of forming, or at least trying to form, policies in areas where it has no sign of competence or credibility.
UKIP has consigned itself to being little more than the dustbin into which protest votes are consigned – hence the success in EU elections, seen as irrelevant by the electorate at large, and its abject failure in domestic poluitics where it is no closer, in real terms, to having an MP elected and has a mere 140 councillors and almost 1,700 failure who stood for office and failed – as in all competition who came second or 22nd. is of no interest a week after the election!
Clearly the UKIP of Alan Skedd did not succeed, largely because it was too rigidly controlled to suit the views and beliefs of Alan Sked – Just as UKIP has failed to make the grade under Nigel Farage’s leadership, albeit a defacto leadership of Farage when he was not the stated leader!
Sked’s aim to launch a new party is little more than an act of ego and he clearly has little or no understanding of the fears of ‘the common man’ when confronted with rapid social changes whish as so often have bred rezsentment, whether rational or not.
It is indisputable that UKIP under Farage’s leadership due to its attempts at growth through populism and its association with the extremists in the EU within the undeniably racist, extremist, anti homosexual and xenophobic EFD Group numerous of whom have criminal convictions for their extreme views and prejudices.
There is no doubt that immigration should face some form of intelligent control, not on racial grounds but on both need and capacity to absorbe the alien influx.
Skedd has missed the point and Farage has overstated it giving solace to the corrupt, the racists and the small minded amongst his party’s members and voters!
Sked stands less chance of winning a seat in Doncaster against the odious Ed Miliband, as an MP, than Farage did in Buckingham against John Bercow, where he was soundly drubbed!
It is also debatable whether Sked was speaking of himself when he said:
These are the tired and false representations of a disappointed man.’
Probably not or he forgot to mention ego and embittered revenge for his failure in 1997!
I believe Sked’s claim that he left UKIP as it had become too racist is fundamentally untrue and a convenient cover invented long after the event which led to his departure ‘he lost control of the party he foumnded to Nigel Farage whose manipulative skills and devious charm as a performer outstripped his own overly academic rigidity based on the Sked ego as a ‘teacher’ where he proved incompetent in the adult world of back stabbing and greed!
‘I left UKIP because it has become too racist,’ says party’s founder
  • Professor Alan Sked, 66, says New Deal can challenge major parties
  • Believes most of the country are against the EU but UKIP is ‘too extreme’
  • New organisation would be tolerant of minorities and support immigration
  • He founded the party now ran by Farage in 1993
The founder of UKIP has set up a new Eurcosceptic organisation for those who feel his old party have become ‘racist’.
Professor Alan Sked, 66, hopes the centre-left party, called New Deal, is a step away from the set-up under Nigel Farage, which he believes has become ‘anti-immigrant and ‘anti-intellectual.’
He also hopes to challenge the Labour Party and has considered opposing Ed Miliband in his Doncaster seat at the 2015 General Election.
New direction: Professor Alan Sked in 1993 when he launched The UK Independence Party.
New direction: Professor Alan Sked in 1993 when he launched The UK Independence Party.
Some of the policies the organisation will push include the rationalisation of railways and the scrapping of the bedroom tax.
He also believes many voters in Britain want to leave with the EU, but will not side with UKIP because they are too extreme.
His criticism of Farage’s party began after a number of council candidates were exposed for having extreme right-wing links or homophobic views.
The new party could pose significant threat to Labour as leader Ed Miliband faces increasing criticism for weak leadership and being vague on policy.
There are also plans for a candidate to stand against deputy prime minister Nick Clegg in his Sheffield constituency.
Competition: Professor Alan Sked thinks UKIP have become too 'racist' under the leadership of Nigel Farage (left) and says he will stand against Ed Miliband in his Doncaster seat
Sked, a lecturer in international history at the London School of Economics, told The Sunday Times he wanted a party dedicated to leaving the EU but was not too right wing.
‘I think the majority of the people in this country want out of the EU,’ said Sked.
‘They would like a party devoted to the cause, but couldn’t vote for one that was extremely right wing.
‘They will now be given a serious alternative to the major parties and UKIP.’
Despite plans from David Cameron to renegotiate the terms of Britain’s membership of the EU, Sked believes the Conservative leader is ‘trying to pull the wool over the eyes’ of the country and his party.
The name New Deal is based on policies introduced in the United States by President Franklin D Roosevelt in the 1930’s to lift America out of the Great Depression.
The party’s draft manifesto states tolerance for minorities and is supportive of immigration which it believes is ‘fundamental to the growth of an economically prosperous and civilised society’.
Other new deal policies will include the ending of welfare payments for those earning more than £100,000 a year, oppose the privatisation of Royal Mail and scrap the government’s controversial high-speed rail plans.
It was officially registered as a party last week by the Electoral Commission and intends to field candidates at the 2015 General Election.
But, in contrast to UKIP, it will not be standing in European elections because Sked believed it would be ‘hypocritical’.
Sked pointed out that when he founded UKIP, it had very limited financial resources and is ready to raise funds to help boost the new party.
His first involvement in politics was with the Liberal Party in Scotland but later rejected their pro-European stance.
In 1993 he stood in two by-elections, one in Newbury where he was supported by Enoch Powell.
He came fourth behind the major parties in both elections which prompted the Anti Federalist League (AFL) to change its name to UKIP.
Last month Godfrey Bloom, UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, provoked outrage after referring to countries in Africa which received aid from Briatin ‘Bongo Bongo land’.
Sked added: ‘These are the tired and false representations of a disappointed man.’
The party, which has been led by Farage since 2010, denies being racist or anti-immigrant.
A spokesman for the party said: ‘Alan should be pleased with how well we are doing and the successes of the party he created.’
Hi,
it would take ability to so regularly ensure that the calibre of an organisation was as consistently gutter quality – but whether it is the calibre of their MEPs, EUPPCs, Westminster PPCs, Councillors or wanabe Councillors, general staff or management staff they seem repeatedly to be more a liability than an assett.
Alexandra Phillips
Alexandra Phillips
There is a well known saying that claims there is no such thing as bad publicity.
UKIP have had their fair share of publicity this year, most of it being bad with countless indiscretions and gaffes being revealed in the national media on a daily basis.
It seems the busiest people in UKIP at the moment are their national press officers who have the unenviable task of having to deal with the nations media following yet another howler by one of the party’s officials.
With their heavy workload in mind I found it a little surprising that one of their own press officers had been busy making countless indiscretions of their own.
Alexandra Phillips describes herself as Head of Media for Nigel Farage and UKIP on her Linkedin profile, she has also recently been described as UKIP’s Head Of Press in an article by Channel 4 journalist Cathy Newman.
The 29 year old has previously worked for both the BBC and ITV along with a series of international newspapers and claims she was headhunted for the role with UKIP. Phillips also describes herself as a spin doctor and speechwriter, on her personal website she includes excerpts of speeches she has written for The European Parliament.
Alexandra Phillips is a frequent visitor to The European Parliament in Brussels where she works alongside UKIP’s 11 MEP’s. So when we checked her personal Facebook profile we were amazed at some of the offensive postings she has made over a number of years.
She frequently mocks the disabled, often referring to herself or others as “Spaz” or “Spasticated” Words that have thankfully dropped out of common usage as the majority of British society regard them as offensive. Phillips also refers to an online friend of hers as an “Autistic wanker”.
Another posting she claims that “She is hungrier than a Biafran” a disgusting reference to the huge numbers of people who starved to death during the Nigerian–Biafran War in the 1960’s.
Another posting by the young press officer claims that she “Is bored of being Anne Frank” a sick link to the tragic tale of the young Dutch girl who hid from the Nazis in World War 2 and was ultimately captured and died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
If she wanted to know about Nazis maybe Alexandra Phillips could have asked Jean- Marie Le Pen, MEP and then leader of the Front National. In November 2009 she wrote” Is in the European Parliament and that charming Frenchman Jean-Marie Le Pen is in the office down the corridor. Maybe I should go and say hello”.
It seems that when she visits the European Parliament she gives some of our continental cousins a wide berth, It appears she isn’t keen on people from The Netherlands as she writes” Dutch people should come with a health warning.”
She isn’t that keen on the British either writing “English boys are shit” and “Sometimes just reading the papers and waking up in the UK is enough to make you feel suicidal by lunchtime”.
Let’s see how the self appointed UKIP “Spin Doctor” spins this mess.
UKIP Will Do ANYTHING for Publicity It Seems! They may get publicity but clearly get used in return as they offer a home to ANYONE regardless of the reasons!
Hi,
all too often one hears from the low lifes who pose as spokesmen for UKIP that there is no such thing as bad publicity – one notes how often these spokespeople hide their unpleasant and ill informed self seeking stupidity behind anonymity with false names and lies!
Lord Beaverbrook as a multi Millionaire press baron may well have been in a position to believe his comment but the amount of bad publicity UKIP gets is repeatedly showing them for what they are – a self serving clique seeking enrichment and status and as so often happens with dishonest people seeking their own gains they get demeaned and used!
UKIP has sadly failed on almost every count in domestic politics and seems to have only acted as a magnet for those seeking their own glory and as a dustbin in which to place protest votes.
Yes UKIP membership has finally  regained that which they achieved back in the days of Roger Knapmann’s leadership Steve Harrand even that was based on the lies and false promises made by Nigel Farage to dupe Robert Kilroy Silkn into membership which gained huge publicity and a downgrading of the standards  of its membership.
Let us not forget that Boys Own as a mere pop group had the same number of paid up fans as UKIP has members –
The lack of professionalism and the obvious determination of its star performer to drive anyone who might be a challenge to him out of the party and surround himself with low grade over paid ingrates is all too clear!
With endless poor publicity and incompetent leadership UKIP is going nowhere and after 20 years they still have no coherent strategy, no visible tactics, no clear plan and have still failed to present a viable UK exit and survival strategy when it comes to The EU.
UKIP will never be of consequence until it makes good the shortfall and professionalises rather than organising a revolving door of people joining the party in the hope of professionalising it and quitting in yet another series of bad publicity when they realise just how corrupt, how racist and how self serving are its leadership and its odious cronies.
UKIP pair undecided about their future
POLITICAL CHANGE ... South Tyneside councillors Steve Harrison, Linda Hemmer and George Elsom when they defected to UKIP with, from back left, regional UKIP Richard Elvin and deputer leader Paul Nuttall.
POLITICAL CHANGE … South Tyneside councillors Steve Harrison, Linda Hemmer and George Elsom when they defected to UKIP with, from back left, regional UKIP Richard Elvin and deputer leader Paul Nuttall.
Coun George Elsom, official opposition leader on South Tyneside Council, last week announced he was leaving UKIP, which he only joined this summer in order to smash Labour’s political power stranglehold in the borough.
Now Steve Harrison and Linda Hemmer have revealed they have not made their minds up about standing for UKIP – or any other political party – at local elections in 2014 and 2015.
Although still “committed” to supporting UKIP, which they joined at the start of June, both say they are still considering their future political options.
And both councillors, who represent the Fellgate and Hedworth ward in Jarrow, say they “understand” the reasons Coun Elsom quit UKIP.
Coun Harrison said: “George dipped his toe in the water and decided that he didn’t like aspects of UKIP, and Linda and I respect that.
“But we joined UKIP because we were able to maintain our political independence and because there is no whip on local councillors with the party, as there is with Labour.
“Linda and I still consider ourselves independents. It’s always been about serving the local people in our ward, never about party politics.
“We can call on the power of UKIP on bigger issues, but there has never been any interference from the party at local level.”
Coun Harrison was a Labour Party member for 12 years, but quit in 2003, after becoming “disillusioned” with the party.
Pressed to say if he will stand as a UKIP candidate in South Tyneside next year, Coun Harrison said: “I would have to go through the proper selection process and it hasn’t got to that stage yet.
“It’s not simply that I haven’t decided I won’t stand for UKIP, but that I haven’t decided I will stand for re-election at all.”
But both councillors are still backing UKIP, which will hold a recruitment meeting at the Little Haven Hotel, in River Drive, South Shields, at 7pm on Tuesday.
Coun Hemmer said: “I haven’t decided if I’m even standing for election in two years’ time.
“Being a councillor is a difficult role and I cannot say what the future holds.
“I understand George’s reasons for leaving UKIP and respect those reasons, but all three of us will still work together as independent councillors.
“Steve and I are still independent councillors, but operating under the umbrella of UKIP.
“But as I’ve said before, I don’t do party politics – I do people – and UKIP puts no party whip on us.
“I left Labour because I was disgusted with the party and remain disgusted over issues such as the closure of Queens Road Day Centre in Jarrow.
“But I don’t know if I’m standing as a candidate for any party in 2015.”
Coun Elsom, who represents the Cleadon Park ward, in South Shields, denied that joining UKIP was “a mistake”.
He said he quit because he did not believe membership would help bolster the political opposition in the borough, for the greater good of the people of South Tyneside.
I get the impression it was a good thing I did as it seems to have reminded UKIP, who published the fact at about 15:40hrs.!
Thanks.
Subject: Fwd: Conversation re Steve Crowther’s actions to take Cllr chris Pain out of UKIP
The conversation attached below, is between ex UKIP CEO Will Gilpin and Chris Pain, re Steve Crowther’s actions to take hard working, long standing, UKIP activist Cllr Chris Pain out of UKIP.
This relates to late 2012 / 2013, before any of the fake face book posts were posted late May and raises the issue of the total handling of the situation by UKIP. The full conversation would have a serious effect on UKIP and this is not the intention, so the parts are only attached that have a direct impact on the handling of Chris Pain.
This raises the issue that Chris Pain has not been handled fairly by the party.
Questions were asked re the issue that Steve Crowther had apparently picked the final MEP lists, rather than them being selected as a result of merit on the selection process.
This has been highlighted by Doug Denny, who has been thrown off the NEC, because he was trying to correct what he believes to be a floored (sic) process.
The response was that the only way of challenging the process, was via the courts and not through the party or the NEC.
This is not democratic or fair as stated in the UKIP constitution in how we should act as a party.
The main problem is the defamation of character against Chris Pain, which has not been addressed.
Apologies for the rough transcript, but it was done from 2am until 5am in the morning.
Written Words of Recording Re Telephone Conversation with Will Gilpin
Chris Can I ask you a straight question which is involving me, yes, did Steve Crowther have any involvement, on my side, when it came in front of the NEC.
Will   When it came to your three months suspension?
ChrisNo No before that.
Will   What did you mean
Chris Did Steve have any conversations with you or separately
Will   I’ll give you the honest answer I can’t remember the details, but I was well aware that Steve had lots of antipathy towards you, and made it very clear he would like to get you out of the party, and would do whatever he could to achieve that.
Chris that ties in with what somebody else has said.
Will Okay yes
Chris Somebody else quite high up has said exactly the same
Will   Yes, when you arranged your conference and invited me and Kate to speak at it or me to speak at it and I turned you down, because Steve gave me a direct order, that I wasn’t to attend or have anything to do with you, and giving that he was paying my pay cheque I went along with it.
Chris That’s obvious and unbelievable
Will   Just because his argument to me was that the conference was project designed to get you elected, and he didn’t want to get you elected,  we had to do our best not to support it.
Chris That explains on my lead through Lisa and everybody cancelled on the Sunday as well, because they cancelled on the Sunday and we were doing the Sunday training for people and they cancelled, they got the same…
Will   I imagine so I am not aware, but I am sure Steve I didn’t really know him that well, but I had done a couple of bits with him and I liked him, and because he thought that I liked him he could get me to do what he wanted. You know, it has taken me quite a while to realise that, I still haven’t quite figured him out
Chris But to be honest with you how can I say it
Will   I know he doesn’t like Nigel, but on the other hand this is his carer isn’t it
Chris You say he doesn’t like Nigel but
Will   He doesn’t like him, But he knows Nigel is his paymaster, his gravy train
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
ChrisMore than understanding it he kept going on the same tact that it didn’t matter that they weren’t on your site. I said well of course it does because that’s what people think it is on my facebook site
Will   yeh yeh yeh you were dammed if you did and dammed if you didn’t in fact weren’t you cos if you had admitted they were on your site he would have had you for that, and if you said they weren’t he would have accused you of lying, so
ChrisBut the downside is he knows the fact they weren’t there, he knew they weren’t there afterwards, I actually gave him the proof and sent it to him directly and showed him where they were, and I didn’t get that until the I approached the news editor who sent it through to me. I didn’t know what open part, because I’d been told by somebody else he was using it to take me purposely out of the MEP position, and take me out of the party, which coincides with what you said
Will   Yes I know that is something he wanted to do, I can’t tell you is there was any specific plan, other than he just saw this opportunity and thought, it looked good, you know
Chrishow long  .. has he ever said why he wanted me out of the party? Has he ever drop that reason out or, is it down to Nigel or what,
Will   yes probably down to Nigel probably because you are pushy and Nigel doesn’t like anyone pushy, that might go for the leadership at some point
Christhat’s ridiculous
…………………………………………………………………………………
Will   Steve and Nigel think you are getting too big for your boots, building a power base for yourself, they only want one power base in the party, in other parties there would be lots of power basis
………………………………………………………………………………….
Will   Steve saw his opportunity he got me to get somebody to have a look at your site and obviously it was their report that was read out, you  know, I am not going to tell you who they are obviously because they are still in the party, I don’t think they particularly had a part dropping, they were just doing what they were told
Chris obviously portrayed it in a way, just by him getting you to say all the stuff had been deleted,
Will   yes
Chriswhen he knew the fact that it wasn’t on there in the first place
Will   yes yes
ChrisAlthough is sounds damming in front of the NEC, and in front of disciplinary proceedings he wouldn’t have got away with that, I would have had witnesses and evidence and gone through it bit by bit.
Will   Yes
Chris  it was like everything he threw at me at that meeting, from about the rally in Boston, which he knew about, which had been passed by Paul, and the motion that he told me to do exactly what I did do, and he knows he told me exactly what to do and Piers said the same and to throw all these things in, it was obviously bazaar, I should have had a disciplinary action where I would have got seven days notice where I could have took each bits of evidence in with me, to go through them
Will   which is what Piers said isn’t it
Chris obviously he didn’t want that, because he thought he could con people as a full NEC and twist the facts marginally enough to hit me with other stuff to get it passed
……………………………………………………………………………………
Will   it was gerimanded
Chriswithout a doubt
Will   why they excluded me from the process of course
Chris  yes the thing is it is quite obvious, Steve has done it from day 1 the whole process, pushed it rammed it through, made sure he was showing the subcommittee no minutes from the subcommittee tour at all, which to be fair is not unprofessional it is crooked
Will   yes
Chris  and then actually pushed it forward even further to leave selectors where people are, without the NEC passing a mandate about how people should be  point  scored    and these always through
Will   it’s a win win, either we’re sent the list they’ve given or we reject the entire process at which point Nigel operates the list,
Chris  it would probably be a bit fairer
Will   at lease its know
Chris  I look at what they have done so far, although I don’t agree with that, at least it would save a lot of people time energy and effort in the party
Will   and money
Chrisand money, and a lease it would be straight forward and say that’s Nigels choice and that’s it
Will   yeh yes
Chris  all Steve’s done is pushed it through regardless
Will   well that was the final straw for  me in terms of my enthusiasm for the  post
Chris what you doing now then
Will   nothing I am on holiday for a week and then gonna start working out what to do.
Regards,
Greg_L-W..
Subject: Fwd: Emailing: STAND UP AND BE COUNTED – RE BAD UKIP MEP SELECTIONS
From: chris.ukip@btinternet.com
Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2013 23:27:23 +0100
I have just had this email sent over to me from Derbyshire. It is apparently doing the rounds in the East Mids.
Regards,
Chris
I am totally shocked that my two local UKIP members from Derbyshire David Gale one of the best police commissioner results for UKIP, and Phillip Rose secretary of the east midlands counties committee, have not made the list to be voted on for the MEP selections.  as these are two hard working local activists, the fact that they have not made the final cut is dubious to say the least.
Several of the areas are being represented in the MEP selection process by people they do not want. All our candidates have come from two counties so we have no representation from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland.  This will impact on our vote at the ballot box. The down side of this is that instead of having four MEP’s in the next elections, we will probably only have one. It has been apparent that the list has been picked by Steve Crowther, Party Chairman, raising doubts about his suitability as future chairman of the party.
In the east midlands these are the candidates we have been given are as follows:-
Barry Mahoney ~ this man has never done anything in or for the region in the last eight years. He did not campaign in the last European election at all, and was not re voted onto the east midlands committee because of his lack of attendance at meetings.
Roger Helmer ~ came over from the conservatives, supposed to be retiring through ill health.  He has not been to an East Midlands regional meeting yet even though he has been in the party a year and a half.  He has not contributed financially to the region either.
Margot Parker ~ stood against UKIP at the last European elections. She stood in Corby in the by-election which is a plus point for her.  Unfortunately she did not bother to stand for UKIP in a previous council by-election a few months before leaving the seat uncontested.  She also left the general election seat uncontested at the last general elections. Her profession is advising people how to get around EU law, so if she obtains the post of MEP we will be adding to her job CV and she will not be inclined to push forward for the UK to leave the EU.
Jonathan Bullock ~ has only been in the party 9 months, he should not be eligible to stand as the criteria is you have to be in the party 12 months.
Nigel Wickens ~ nobody knows who Nigel Wickens is.
The above does not make good reading for anybody in the party that wants to move forward. I thought the national selection process was a good idea and although, I was not in UKIP during the last European elections these results seem to suggest that the regions selection process was a far better process last time. The fact that concludes my thoughts is that Lincolnshire activist, Christopher Pain, has not made the list.  He has worked hard for the party for years attained the positions of Branch Chairman, Counties Chairman, East Midlands Chairman, NEC member, County Councillor, organised conferences and had some of the best election results for the party.
We then have to look at Mike Nattrass MEP being told he was not worthy for selection in the West Midlands makes a mockery of the all system. He has been one of the most hard working MEP’s, after Nigel Farage, in the whole party.  He has worked tirelessly and donating hundreds of thousands of pounds to the party.
Neil Hamilton has been deemed unworthy to stand for selection in the South West, but his silence has been bought by a high luxury job in the party.
All three of the following are not in the top 10, but 6 people who are not known in the area are above them, why?
In the south east Steve Harris their regional organiser was number 3 candidate on the last MEP list.
Andrew Montclies ex NEC member and policy writer for UKIP
Piers Wauchop NEC member long standing with 8 years plus as a County Councillor, a hard working kingpin in the south east.
In London Paul Oakley is top of the list an unknown character not been a hard working activist for UKIP, yet he has been deemed to be a higher calibre than MEP Gerard Batten.
Then we look slightly further afield Jonathan Arnott has been placed number 1 on the list in the North East.  This has dismayed local activists as they have never seen Jonathan Arnott in the region at all, people do not know who he is.
David Coburn has been placed number 1 in Scotland the information coming from Scotland is that he has not been there for 30 plus years.
These are just a few examples of the bazaar selection process that appears to be riddled with corruption from UKIP.
I joined UKIP because I thought they were the party of the people and as an activist I am absolutely distraught at the way many good candidates across the country have been treated and bypassed.
I am enclosing the email addresses of all the NEC members and if you agree that the selection of candidates is wrong, please email them and tell them.  If not I am sorry for bothering you, but a big injustice has been done here by our leaders, they are telling you who they want on the selection vote as MEP, not who we want.  What will happen at the next general election if we don’t stand up now and be counted?
Fellow activists and I have decided that if this injustice is not addressed we will not be actively campaigning or donating to the European elections at all.  I believed UKIP to be a democratic party yet it appears we are taking on the habits of the EU which I despise strongly
A Once Dedicated UKIP Activist
Clearly too gutless to validate their poison pen with the addition of their name, though it seems all too clear who the dweeb who authored this is!Since virtually all appointments within UKIP are orchestrated by one man, internal selections and elections have regularly been rigged and fiddled it is interesrting to note that people like Mike Nattrass who was a main mover in the corruption only speak out when they personally fall foul of the system they helped set up and support!
It does give a measure of the caliber of the trash that form the bulk of UKIP’s hierarchy. Clearly without honour, integrity or basic decency just as with the low lifes who turn a blind eye to the corruption when it works for their gain like Andrew Smith, Gerard Batten, Mick McGough and the anonymised cowards with their lies and unpleasant efforts to defame true supporters of UKIP who seek to clean it up to make it fit for purpose ratheer than fit for personal gain!
·  In this application Mr. Michael Nattrass seeks an injunction against the United Kingdom Independence Party until trial in the following terms: “The defendant is strictly enjoined and restrained whether by itself its servants or agents or otherwise howsoever from conducting or purporting to conduct a ballot of the membership of the United Kingdom Independence Party with a view to selecting candidates for the election to the European Parliament to be held in June 2014”.
·  I shall refer to the Defendant as UKIP.
·  Mr Nattrass has been a West Midlands UKIP MEP since 2004. The next election will be in 2014. The candidates for the elections will be selected by a national UKIP ballot from amongst those selected for the purpose (60 in number) by a body called the National Selection Panel.
·  A selection process has been gone through which Mr. Eyre, who appears for Mr. Nattrass, has eloquently submitted is legally flawed. Mr. Nattrass was not one of the 60 people who came successfully through the selection process. Approximately 200 people applied, each paying £500 for the privilege, so there are at least 140 disappointed candidates. There are, however, 60 people who would no doubt claim to have been properly selected. Those 60 people prima facie have a contractual right to proceed to the ballot stage, which is a ballot of the entire party. If I granted the injunction that is sought, their apparent contractual rights would be infringed, yet none of them is before the court. It seems to me that that gives Mr. Eyre a real difficulty. However, that is not his only difficulty.
·  The flaws that he relies upon (or did rely upon) were 2-fold. The first was the relatively technical one that no formal resolution constituting the National Selection Panel, as required by the rules, was put to the National Executive Committee. That, however, has been effectively cured, as Mr. Eyre concedes, by a resolution of 18th August 2013 ratifying everything previously done, passed before this claim was brought, with only 1 vote against. Accordingly, Mr. Eyre now limits his legal attack before me to the second ground pleaded which is that there is, he says, an implied term in the rule book that the assessment of potential candidates for elections to the European Parliament would be conducted
(a) fairly, as between the potential candidates,
(b) by reference to objective criteria;
(c) in such a manner that each potential candidate would in interview be given an opportunity to address issues which might materially influence the assessment of his suitability for election;
(d) in such a manner that the criteria were applied and the assessment conducted in the same manner in respect of each potential candidate.
·  It is said that the implication is necessary in order to give business efficacy to the arrangements for the selection of candidates or on the ground of obviousness.
·  The details of the selection process are set out in the rule book, which is itself referred to in the defendant’s constitution and is the governing document for the selection of candidates. Moreover, the rule book was sent to all candidates and entry into the process was deemed to be acceptance of the rules.
·  The rules are very detailed. I turn in particular to section T4 which deals with the National Selection Panel which is to be appointed from among senior party members and chaired by the party chairman. That selection panel is enjoined to appoint three-person Assessment Panels to undertake the assessment and interview process within a prescribed timetable. There are detailed conditions as to how they are to operate. In particular, they are to engage the services of an independent third party recruitment company to assist with the assessment phase and assessment is to include, but not be limited to, various components such as loyalty indicators. It is further provided that candidates should make themselves available for interviews and public speaking tests on dates to be determined. There is a discretion on the National Selection Panel’s part to provide for alternative arrangements in exceptional cases and there are detailed provisions to assist the assessment process such as the organisation of public speaking events. 60 candidates in England are to be chosen. Only those candidates go forward to the ballot stage.
·  Those very detailed provisions, which I have merely summarised, but which cover several pages of the rule book, do not need to be buttressed by implied terms of the sort contended for here. I have no doubt that many of the detailed provisions, such as the reference to an independent third party recruitment company, are intended to ensure that the process is fair, but that is brought about by an express provision. There are many other detailed express provisions, and it is simply not necessary to imply anything further.
·  Moreover, it is not at all clear to me that Mr. Nattrass has established any breach of the implied terms he pleads or, if he has, what the consequences of that breach are. He has not come anywhere near to establishing that he would or should have been selected if the process had been different.
·  It is said that he should have been given the opportunity to comment upon matters which have been taken into account against him in the selection process, in particular loyalty issues. It is said that he was not given that opportunity, which could easily have been afforded to him in interview. Were this a judicial process, subject to the rules of natural justice, Mr Nattrass might have a case, as on his allegations UKIP was, according to him, in breach of the requirements of natural justice. But Mr Eyre, for Mr Nattrass, prudently disclaims any duty on UKIP’s part to observe the rules of natural justice. One can see the intractable difficulties that could lead to. The selection process could be much prolonged and all candidates (not just Mr Nattrass) would have to have the opportunity to comment upon any matter that might be taken into account against them before the process could be concluded.
·  In political life people form views about other people who are in the public eye based upon their track record, and what they have done and said. It seems to me to be quite impossible to argue that there should be a duty to put to a candidate everything that might conceivably be held against that person at the end of the day. What the selection process was meant to achieve was a comparative assessment of all the candidates. One of the reasons for not selecting a candidate may be that there are better candidates. If a duty of natural justice or its equivalent is to be read into the process, then every candidate should presumably have a free reign to comment upon other candidate’s comparative weaknesses, which is clearly not, nor is it claimed to be, the case.
·  It seems to me that what happened in this case does not give rise to a serious argument that Mr. Nattrass has been the victim of a breach of contract or other wrong. In any event, it seems to me that the balance of convenience is very much in favour of allowing the proposed ballot to proceed.
·  I can see that damages is an unattractive remedy for Mr. Nattrass, because he would be in the territory of loss of a chance and there would be major, if not intractable, problems of proof.
·  Nevertheless, I must weigh against that the fact that any injunction I grant now would require, effectively, the whole process to be gone through again with whatever further legal challenge (if any) that may arise at the end of the day after that process has been completed and will disrupt the ballot that everyone is expecting will now go ahead, and the ensuing preparations for next year’s elections, which are fixed in time. It seems to me that the court should require exceptional circumstances before it interferes with the selection processes of a political party and, just as Mr. Justice Stanley Burton in Choudhry v Triesman [2003] EWHC 1203 (Ch), declined to compel a registered political party to allow candidates to stand if the party had genuine and substantial concerns as to the regularity and honesty of the procedure for their selection, so too, in my judgement, where there has been (as in this case) a process, albeit one which (I assume for the purposes of this argument) may be flawed, but which has resulted in the selection of sixty candidates for election, it would be quite inappropriate, save in the most exceptional circumstances, for the court to intervene and interfere with that process.
·  There is no suggestion of corrupt practises in this case, merely of unfairness (I say “merely” without minimising the importance of fairness in public life). There is only so much that the court should be asked to do. The court should be very wary of finding itself in the position where it starts to control part of the ongoing democratic political process in this country. I decline to do so in the circumstances of this case. Accordingly, the injunction is refused.
.
Greg_L-W..
Legend has it that Cnut the Great, Viking King of England, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, 985-1035, once commanded the waves to stop. Two versions of this story exist, one holding that Cnut really believed that he could do such a thing, the other telling that Cnut’s stunt was merely intended to show that he possessed only the power of any other mortal. Either version contains a lesson in humility for the leaders of the world now assembling in Copenhagen.
They believe that with just a stroke of their bureaucratic pens they can control the elements. A directive can be issued, and LO! Climate change will be stopped in its tracks.
There is a gulf between the minds of the Great and the Good and reality. They are under the misapprehension that we can command the natural world. Even worse, for us, they think that their meeting to create a ‘global deal’ on CO2 emissions will result in world peace, environmental utopia, and every single human on earth dancing for joy at the prospect of being subject to carbon laws, regulation, and taxes. Yippeeeee! No more flights! Waheeey! No more cars! Yahooo! No electricity!
One complete bunch of Cnuts – the editorial team at the Guardian newspaper – believes that it, along with 56 other publications throughout the world, can rightly issue instructions to the world through their editorial columns. The group of 56 newspapers today issued a statement simultaneously urging that there were just ‘fourteen days to seal history’s judgment on this generation’.
The science is complex but the facts are clear. The world needs to take steps to limit temperature rises to 2C, an aim that will require global emissions to peak and begin falling within the next 5-10 years. A bigger rise of 3-4C — the smallest increase we can prudently expect to follow inaction — would parch continents, turning farmland into desert. Half of all species could become extinct, untold millions of people would be displaced, whole nations drowned by the sea. The controversy over emails by British researchers that suggest they tried to suppress inconvenient data has muddied the waters but failed to dent the mass of evidence on which these predictions are based.
There is no science which says that 2 degrees is a special point, and that a temperature rise of 3 to 4 degrees will produce the consequences that the Guardian’s biblical prophecies foretell. These are just political targets, dreamt up by political activists. There is no scientific ‘evidence’ on which such predictions are based, and there are no predictions, just the Guardian’s fantasy. There is nothing like this in the IPCC reports. They have made it up. If you can show me otherwise, please be my guest.
Complete Cnuts ex-Beatle, Paul McCartney, and IPCC Chair, Rajendra Pachauri were in Brussels last week, pushing lentils. They want to persuade the EU to persuade its citizens to stop eating meat because, according to them, eating meat causes climate change. This is the kind of nonsense that the Copenhagen conference (and the EU) is all about – bossing people about, telling them how they should live their lives and what to have for dinner. We had a barbecue in Brussels to let McCartney and Pachauri know what we thought of their silly plan.
Paul Nuttal and me, eating sausages at McCartney and Pachauri.
Silly Cnut, the Prince of Wales has been invited to Copenhagen by the Danish government, according to the Times.
He will travel to the Danish capital in a seven-seat RAF aircraft. His spokeswoman said that it was not possible to travel on a scheduled flight because of prior engagements and the risk of being delayed. … In Brazil earlier this year the Prince warned that fighting global warming should have a higher priority on the world’s agenda than fighting poverty, and that there were only eight years left to save the planet.
It’s easy for Cnut’s like Prince Charles to convince themselves that private jets are necessary for their job of saving the planet, and that poverty is just a trivial problem. He ought to be setting an example, and cycling to Copenhagen.
But Charles won’t be the only Cnut travelling to and around Copenhagen in luxury. The Telegraph reports that
On a normal day, Majken Friss Jorgensen, managing director of Copenhagen’s biggest limousine company, says her firm has twelve vehicles on the road. During the “summit to save the world”, which opens here tomorrow, she will have 200. … The airport says it is expecting up to 140 extra private jets during the peak period alone, so far over its capacity that the planes will have to fly off to regional airports – or to Sweden – to park, returning to Copenhagen to pick up their VIP passengers.
You see, while the world’s top brass pat themselves on the back, arranging for international agreements about what to do with your money, and how to tax and regulate your life, they will be tucking into some of the finest grub in the world, staying in luxurious hotels, and swanning about in carbon-guzzling vehicles, all under the pretence that they are ‘saving the planet’.
The Telegraph mentions some other Cnuts…
As well 15,000 delegates and officials, 5,000 journalists and 98 world leaders, the Danish capital will be blessed by the presence of Leonardo DiCaprio, Daryl Hannah, Helena Christensen, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Prince Charles.
What possible use is there for actor Leonardo DiCaprio at an international conference on climate change? Is it a movie? It’s certainly based on fiction. Maybe he’s playing the Cnut?
Remember, you can’t go to this conference to have your say about your own future, and nobody has asked you what you want the British or EU governments to do in Copenhagen. But DiCaprio is given VIP treatment. All you need to get a seat at this table, it seems, is the right number of millions of dollars in the bank. Then everyone will celebrate your heroic efforts to prevent Armageddon. Meanwhile, you and I will have to pick up the tab for this face-stuffing opportunity for the rich and famous, and live with the aftermath.
Our Prime Minister, who is widely regarded as perhaps the biggest Cnut in the whole country, said in the Observer, yesterday,
Let no one be in any doubt about the overwhelming scientific evidence that underpins the Copenhagen conference. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change brings together over 4,000 scientists from every corner of the world. Their recent work has sharpened, not diminished, the huge and diverse body of evidence of human-made global warming. Its landmark importance cannot be wished away by the theft of a few emails from one university research centre. On the contrary, the pernicious anti-scientific backlash that the emails have unleashed has exposed just what is at stake.
Like his idiot pal, Prescott, Brown has plucked the figure of 4,000 scientists out of thin air. There aren’t 4,000 contributing scientists to the IPCC, as I pointed out a few weeks ago. Why aren’t our most senior politicians in command of the facts? How can they expect us to beleive that they can control the weather if they can’t get such basic matters clear in the minds?Simple numbers like 4,000 and simple facts about the structure and operation of the IPCC ought to be well within their grasp.
The purpose of the climate change deniers’ campaign is clear, and the timing no coincidence. It is designed to destabilise and undermine the efforts of the countries gathering in Copenhagen today.
Too bloody right we want to destabilise and undermine the big party at Copenhagen, Mr. Brown. The reason is that you’re a bunch of self-serving Cnuts, who can’t even get your own facts straight. This much is plain: you don’t know what you’re talking about, nobody voted for you to be PM, and nobody voted for the action you are committing the UK to at Copenhagen. You should worry less about the made up ‘scientific consensus’, and think more about what public opinion says.
UKIP: Godfrey Bloom banned from Strasbourg hotels after being caught urinating in the corridors
Godfrey Bloom is a drunk, an adulterer and a fool. Every time he opens his mouth or his trousers he brings the Euro-realist movement further into disrepute.
He has now been banned from several hotels in Strasbourg after being caught urinating in a hotel corridor. He was so drunk that he couldn’t make it to a toilet and so decided to ‘water’ a handy pot plant.
A truly disgusting man.
Godfrey Bloom facts:
He sought to influence the outcome of UKIP’s latest NEC elections by sending out a letter ‘advising’ UKIPPERS how to vote. See: LINK
Bloom has admitted visiting brothels in Hong Kong, and said that the majority of prostitutes were not exploited: “In short, most girls do it because they want to”. Perhaps he would like to tell that to the women forced into prostitution by criminal gangs. LINK
He was once arrested by Brussels Police. He farcically pleaded diplomatic immunity after telling the police that he was a UKIP MEP! Fortunately for Bloom and his black ‘companion’ the Police later released them without charge.
After a visit from female students at Cambridge to Bloom in the European Parliament, he was accused of sexual harassment and making a torrent of misogynist remarks. The students, who had in fact been there to show SUPPORT for Bloom, were shocked by his behaviour. One student wrote that Bloom touched her leg.
Mr Bloom asked a colleague ‘Isn’t she the most delicious bimbette? Absolutely thick, but good tits’. Of the businesswoman who he had invited to share the platform at the next day’s press conference, Mr Bloom had only four words: ‘big tits, very feisty’.”
Bloom denied the touching but not the comments.
The three British MEPs with the worst attendance record are David Bannerman, Paul Nuttall and Godfrey Bloom, each averaging under 63 per cent. LINK
Bloom exploited a loophole to pay a relative to work for him.
He states on his website that he “employs no immediate members of his family on his secretarial allowance unlike most other MEPs”. However Victoria Skowronek, his 21-year-old secretarial assistant, is his niece.
Miss Skowronek also works for an investment company in which Bloom is a major shareholder. LINK
Bloom applauded the French bombing of a Greenpeace ship. One man died in the attack. LINK
Bloom secretly claimed a second EU pension. Another so-called ‘Euro-sceptic’ who is happy to reap the rewards of being a Euro MEP!
Bloom was banned from the Mansion House after a drunken outburst.LINK
And he has even made drunken speeches in the EU Parliament.
And to think that we could have Richard North representing UKIP in Yorkshire! He should have been UKIP’s lead candidate in 2004 but Farage rigged the selection so his drinking buddy could join him in Brussels!
