TORIES in Central Suffolk and North Ipswich have called for the Government to bring forward a referendum on the future of Britain’s position in the EU to before the 2015 general election
The move comes as parties step up their campaign for the 75 seats on the county council – with some Tories fearing that a strong UKIP performance could cost them votes and seats.
Constituency chairman Christopher Hudson, who is seeking re-election as county councillor for Kesgrave, said: “We Conservatives in this constituency are assuring voters in our area that we are committed to give voters a clear choice on our country’s membership of the EU.
“It is vital that we connect with the people on this central issue ASAP. This matter will not be determined by the county council but by the sovereign will of Parliament.
“Our pledge to voters in this area is genuine, serious, democratic and will indicate grass-roots reaction to this EU membership issue.”
UKIP spokesman Stuart Gulleford was not impressed by the Tories’ move. He said: “This is a blatant attempt at trying to get votes from UKIP supporters.
“We haven’t raised the EU or the referendum because it is not relevant to these elections – but we’re getting a lot of support. Sometimes it’s difficult to find people who aren’t voting UKIP.”
His party is fighting the county council elections with a specific local election manifesto – and is hoping to build on the one seat it won in the 2009 poll which was held on the same day as the European elections.
I do appreciate that the odious & self serving Gulleford was all too obviously annoyed at being exposed as a cheat when he was rigging meetings to try to become a leading candidate on UKIP’s MEP selection list alonside the liar and cheat Mick McGough and the untrustworthy scoundrel Andrew Smith aided by Annabelle Fuller’s corruption and abuse of data protection laws and betrayal of UKIP trust!
Perhaps the foolish and untrustworthy little man should have stuck with Labour where such ineptitude is seemingly a merit or indulged his obsessive hatred of cats!
When he was willing to use any trick in the book and act dishonestly for his own prefferment it ill becomes him to try to criticise others for making honest efforts to promote their policies.
As for the concept of a Referendum being some sort of unique UKIP policy that is risible – UKIP would seem to have done almost everything they could including outright lies to endeavour to hinder Nikki Sinclaire’s team effort to get sufficient signatures to force a debate in The House of Commons which she achieved despite UKIP’s efforts at sabotage.
Let us not forget that it was UKIP that made much pretence at collecting signatures for a petition and in the event merely syphoned off £1/4Million from the public purse plus donations of an unknown amount and failed to deliver a single solitary signature nor account for one Penny of the money.
It is believed that the money which was unaccounted for was syphoned off into the bank accounts of David Lott, Nigel Farage & Mark Croucher who were supposedly organising what seems to have been little more than a scam.
Meanwhile Nikki Sinclaire’s team received not one Penny from the public purse, over and above her basic personal allowances as an MEP, and have delivered over 250,000 signatures from across the Country and have now founded a Political Party to promote the rights of British citizens to self determination and a straightforward IN/OUT Referendum relative to The EU.
Yet the unpleasant little Gulleford hold forth about stealing policies!
On the subject of UKIP dishonesty in the Eastern Region I note the inquiry by Olaf into the fraudulent use of money by the UKIP MEPs Stuart Agnew and David Bannerma as boasted of to The Sunday Times article by Daniel Foggo drags on, having not yet, it seems, reached their verdict.
