Ukip MEP’s Libel & Slander Likely To Cost Her Upwards of £1/2Million having accused 3 Labour MPs of involvement in the Rotheram child sex cover-ups!
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi.
I do believe that it is reasonable to consider announcing ones accusations that the MPs of an opposing party were involved in a cover up of child grouming rape and sexual abuse in a depraved and criminal manner, naming the MPs yet failing to provide any evidence or proof from a stage at a party political rally is more than a tad foolish – not to mention criminal.
To then try to claim such an action to be acceptable as an extension of Parliamentary priviledge is downright stupid!
Those who know anything about the history of Ukip will be aware that there is no such thing as Parliamentary privilege in the so called EU Parliament, when it comes to false accusations that can be construed as libelous or slanderous, being aware of the fines levied on Nigel Farage having merely insulted the newly appointed flunkey van Rumpey – an insult made in the self styled EU Parliament let alone on a Party Political stage for political gain!
It does all too clearly seem that Jane Collins had sunk to gutter politics, in what seems all too common in Ekip, by believing it was acceptable to libel and slander political rivals without a shred of evidence or an iota of caveat in her claim of their involvement in support of the sexual abuse of children in their constituencies!
I guess Jane Collins can consider herself fortunate when you consider a minor sleb in America was awarded $115 Million against Gawker Media for having had his perfidious sexual behaviour made public – just imagine what he would have been awarded had he been accused of any involvement in sexual abuse of multiple children!
Ukip MEP bids to avoid paying damages over remarks about MPs
A Ukip MEP who was sued over remarks she made about Rotherham’s three Labour MPs in relation to the town’s child abuse scandal has made an attempt to avoid paying compensation.
A Ukip MEP who was sued over remarks she made about Rotherham’s three Labour MPs in relation to the town’s child abuse scandal has made an attempt to avoid paying compensation.
Sir Kevin Barron, MP for Rother Valley, John Healey, who represents Wentworth and Dearne, and Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham, brought High Court proceedings against Jane Collins, MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
Their claim for slander and libel arose from a speech Ms Collins gave at Ukip’s conference in September 2014 – a month after a report found that about 1,400 children in the area had been abused between 1997 and 2013.
A year ago, Mr Justice Warby made findings on meaning – after which Ms Collins, who was legally represented at the time, made an offer of amends which was accepted.
The judge said that her words meant, as an allegation of fact, that each of the MPs knew many of the details of the exploitation yet deliberately chose not to intervene but allowed it to continue.
They also meant, as expressions of opinion, that they acted in this way for motives of political correctness, political cowardice or political selfishness and that they were guilty of misconduct so grave that it was or should be criminal, as it aided the perpetrators and made the MPs just as culpable.
Lawyers for Ms Collins had argued that it was a political speech which did not contain any allegation of fact, but expressed an opinion to the effect that the MPs were likely to have known that sexual exploitation was a serious problem in the area.
The amount of compensation could not be agreed so the case came back to court in London on Monday for the judge to assess damages – which the claimants say should be in the region of £150,000 each.
But, Ms Collins, who is now acting in person, claimed she did not give informed consent to an offer of amends and there was no proper acceptance as the parties were unable to agree on any of its elements.
She said she was under the impression that her lawyers were going to robustly contest the claim and there were defences available.
Gavin Millar, QC for the MPs, said her application to set aside the agreement was not genuine, but was another attempt to “derail” the litigation and avoid paying compensation.
He said: “It is simply an attempt to get out of the bargain she made and yet another example of her inability to accept the consequences of her own actions.”
The judge, who earlier rejected Ms Collins’s bid to get the proceedings stayed on the basis of EU parliamentary immunity, will give his ruling tomorrow.
Ukip Exposed To Further Bad Publicity By Ineptitude, lack of PR skills and clear lack of competence or leadership, showing them as unfit for office yet again.
Hi,this seems something of a non story as it does seem to be based upon the FACT that some 1,400 children were groomed and abused in Rotheram and it was clearly on Labour’s watch – so it would seem they are unlikely to have a case to bring.However, that Ukip has been placed in this position just shows the low caliber of Ukip’s representatives that they lack the ability to guard their words to prevent embarrassment to the cult.
Rotherham’s three Labour MPs to sue UKIP MEP for slander
MPs Sarah Champion, John Healey and Kevin Barron are taking action against UKIP’s Jane Collins and Cavan Vines
Rotherham’s three Labour MPs say they are suing two UKIP politicians over remarks made about them in relation to the town’s child abuse scandal.
Sarah Champion, John Healey and Kevin Barron are taking action against MEP Jane Collins for libel and slander for comments she made at a UKIP conference, which they believe are defamatory.
They are also suing Rotherham UKIP group leader Caven Vines for libel.
About 1,400 children were abused in the town from 1997 to 2013, a report found.
Mr Barron and Mr Healey are taking action against Mr Vines for remarks he made in a Sky News interview.
In a joint statement, Ms Champion, Mr Healey and Mr Barron said: “It is sickening that UKIP could use such an important issue for party political point scoring, and we will challenge these defamatory accusations through every means available to prove they are untrue and to stop UKIP exploiting the terrible abuse for their own political gain.”
A UKIP spokesperson speaking on behalf of Mrs Collins and Mr Vines said: “We are unable to comment at the moment, as this is an ongoing case.”
Three Labour MPs are suing a Ukip MEP over “sickening” allegations that they knew about child abuse in Rotherham.
Sarah Champion, John Healy and Kevin Barron have announced they are taking action against Jane Collins for libel and slander.
The move follows Ms Collins’ speech to the Ukip conference in Doncaster in September, in which she referred to the report by Professor Alexis Jay that found 1,400 children had been targeted over more than a decade.
The MEP, who is the party’s general election candidate for Rotherham Central, said she was convinced local MPs “knew many of the details of what was happening”.
But in a joint statement, Ms Champion, Mr Healey and Mr Barron said: “It is sickening that Ukip could use such an important issue for party-political point-scoring, and we will challenge these defamatory accusations through every means available to prove they are untrue and to stop Ukip exploiting the terrible abuse for their own political gain.”
Mr Barron and Mr Healey said they were also taking libel action against Rotherham Ukip group leader Caven Vines for repeating similar accusations in an interview.
Based upon Ukip’s track record this would seem to imply that there is yet another skeleton in the cupboard that they fear will spill out due to the ineptitude of Ukip’s selection process, lack of competent leadership and failures of its press office (yet again).Alternatively we are about to see that Ukip’s democratic process has been ignored and Nigel Farage or one of his cronies has a pet candidate they wish to parachute into the position as so often happens, regardless of their suitability and competence as with Godfrey Bloom, David Bannerman, Marta Andreasen, and many others who subsequently befouled the party!There is of course a further explanation as the media shows, which shows John Stanyer was an ex Tory who may well have been parachuted into position against the wish of the local activists himself – as would seem to be given some credence HERE
A GUEST POST – Details of Nigel farage & his cult followers That it Is Hard To Refute!
Hi,
it is rare after so many years of blogging & following the blogosphere, to trip over a new blog which publishes material so broadly in agreement with one’s own blog!
Nigel Farage’s reaction to the UKIP Calypso coverage is gross hypocrisy
Nigel Farage has written an article on the Independent website about how the UKIP Calypso shows “how skewed people’s priorities are”. The main thrust of his point is summed up in the first paragraph:
How’s this for having your priorities in order: 1,400 young girls are groomed and raped in the North of England, and yet this week we’ve seen a stronger reaction from many on the Left to a calypso song produced by a Ukip supporter.
Later in the article he continues:
Still the obsession over a viral campaign to get a funny song into the charts has dominated the news agenda this week.
I presume Farage is saying that more focus should have been given to the news this week that a number of files have gone missing relating to the Rotherham abuse scandal. I believe the implication Farage wants us to draw is clear. We should not focus on the Calypso when there are other, truly awful, things happening.
His use of an incendiary topic like Rotherham makes it hard for anyone to argue with the position. It is a powerful diversionary tactic and, in our heads, we can probably imagine Mr Farage using it in one of his barnstorming speeches. His “slow-slow-quick” delivery style. His vocal rise and fall. His well delivered anger.
But I believe that this argument is an example of the worst type of political opportunism and misdirection. The type of politics that Farage claims to stand against. I believe it is gross hypocrisy.
The news on Rotherham has continued ever since it was initially uncovered. Virtually every week a new, shocking, revelation has come to light. Yet I did not hear Mr Farage criticising anyone when Rotherham was replaced in media coverage and editorials by the UKIP conference, or Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless’s defections. I did not hear Mr Farage pleading with broadcasters to talk more about Rotherham when he was being asked about UKIP’s first elected MP and the party “making history”. I did not hear Mr Farage offering his time to make adverts for child abuse charities when he was busy filming ones for betting companies. So why the outrage now?
The sad truth is he was only too happy for coverage to move away from Rotherham when it suited him. When he was lauded for delivering a “political shockwave”. When he was invited on the primetime political slots. When he was taking another photo opportunity with another pint in another country pub.
So I ask you, Nigel, how’s that for having your priorities in order?
The corruption of some of EUkip’s leadership, their anti UKIP claque & the NEC is what gives the remaining 10% a bad name!
Hi,
when a point has been well made it is never a good idea to make it all over again and risk diluting its validity and it is for that reason that I quote the words of Team Junius on their blog:
Forget all this nonsense about UKIP surging in popularity. We’ve heared it all before. Year after year we are told by Farage and his useful idiots that UKIP is about to make it into the major league. And every year ends in failure and defeat. We were told that UKIP would win seats in Westminster. They didn’t. We were told that they were going to win seats in the Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament elections. They didn’t. We were told that Farage would win in Buckingham. He didn’t. We were told UKIP would see members elected as police chiefs. They weren’t. We were told that UKIP would win the Corby by-election. They didn’t. And the same goes for Rotherham.
Here are some words of wisdom from The Telegraph regarding this false dawn BUT and it is a very big ‘BUT’ the article which is a blog published on the Telegraph web site and NOT an article for a professional journalist on the Telegraph pay roll.
The Telegraph hosts a number of blogs as an internet host and does not neccessarily endorse the views or veracity of these blogs.
That said, in principle I do endorse the comments and have republished them as a fair and reasonable account of the inevitable long term failure of UKIP following on the abject failure in domestic politics to date:
Ukip aren’t surfing a wave:
they’re standing in a rockpool,
watching the tide go out Ukip aren’t surfing a wave.
Sorry, but it isn’t going to happen. In 1983 the SDP were going to break the mould of British politics; they didn’t. In 1989 the Greens were going to transform the British political landscape; they couldn’t. And in 2015 the great Ukip breakthrough will disintegrate upon the unyielding wall of electoral reality.
It’s a false dawn. However noble their cause, or steely their resolve, Nigel Farage and his irregulars are marching towards defeat.
Ukip are not a political force, but a political curiosity. In years to come many a pub quiz trophy will be won by those who can correctly answer the question: “What was the name of the guy who ran the anti-EU party? Begins with an N.”
In life there are rules. What goes up will come down. The Earth rotates around the Sun, not vice versa. And come election time, minor British political parties get squeezed out of existence.
It may not be fair. It may not be healthy. But them’s the facts. And unfortunately, they are immutable.
Of course, come June 2014, when next year’s European votes are counted, there’s going to be a whole lot of muting going on. Ukip will be in the process of recording their greatest ever election triumph. The Tories will have been beaten into a humiliating third place. Eurosceptic MPs will be fanning out across the airways demanding action and the summary execution of Ken Clarke.
And then nothing will happen. A year later Ukip will run, they will fight and they will lose. There will be no Ukip MPs. Their impact on sitting Tory MPs will have been negligible. They will have 3 or at a stretch 4 per cent of the vote to show for their efforts.
How can my cold, Leftist eyes penetrate the political crystal ball so clearly? Well, for one thing, I’m not a Ukip supporter, so I’m unencumbered by the hope and expectation attending several of those currently predicting a national outbreak of Farage Mania.
The truth, if you care to look for it, is out there. Firstly, there is the electoral system. Ukip cannot make a breakthrough in 2015 because the system they will be fighting under has been specifically designed to prevent them from making that breakthrough. It was not built to further the political ambitions of free spirits such as Citizen Farage. It was created to crush them underfoot; and so it will.
Then there is the second big problem facing Nigel Farage’s party: he hasn’t got one. In relative terms, Ukip have no money, no infrastructure and no activists. They have no organisational expertise, no strategy expertise and no policy expertise. Yes, they punch above their weight in the media, but that’s because much of the media is instinctively sympathetic to their agenda, not because of any presentational acumen. Not so long ago Ukip’s idea of a communications strategy was to wind up Robert Kilroy-Silk and let him go.
Then there is a third obstacle. Ukip are a single-issue organisation, campaigning on an issue most voters couldn’t care less about. According to Mori’s latest issue tracker, only 5 per cent of voters regard Europe as one of the most important issues facing the country. At the time of the 1997 election that figure stood at 43 per cent. Ukip aren’t surfing a wave, they’re paddling in a rock pool watching the tide go out.
People can spend the next couple of years preparing with mounting excitement for Ukip’s moment. But come the next election, the fix will be in. That tiny percentage of voters who rate Europe as the defining issue will have a clear choice. The EurowaryEurophile – if not fully obsessive – Prime Minister Miliband. Nigel Farage – no debate, no money, no activists, no infrastructure, no hope of a seat, never mind power – won’t get a look-in.
That’s the problem with being a lone warrior. It’s lonely.
What is the Exit and Survival Plan for these United Kingdoms to maximise on the many benefits when we Leave-The-EU. It is the DUTY of our Politicians and Snivil Cervants to ensure the continuity, liberty and right to self determination of our peoples – they have a DUTY to protect against crime and secure both our food and our borders.
They also have a duty to put in place contingency plans for the collapse of The EUro & The EU or the wishes of the peoples of Britain to Leave-The-EU.
NONE of these DUTIES has a single British politician upheld for over 40 years. They have drawn their incomes fraudulently and dishonesty.
Politicians are failing to tell the truth, but so are almost all wanabe Politicians, the Main Stream Media and Snivil Cervants.
The fact is that even if EVERY British MEP wanted change in The EU it would achieve NOTHING, at very best if they ALL agreed they would then still have less than a 10% say in the governance of Britain by The EU.
Every single British Politician, of EVERY Party, elected since before we joined the EUropean Common Market, has promised to change The EU’s CAP – In 40 Years they have achieved absolutely NOTHING towards that unanimous promise!
To try to put a value on OUR Freedom is as futile as floccipaucinihilipilification and as odious as the metissage of our societies, as we rummage in the ashes of our ancestors dreams, sacrifices and achievements, the flotsam of our hopes and the jetsam of our lives, consider the Country and Anglosphere which we thus leave our children and the future, with shame!
I SUGGEST – since there is clearly no political party of repute, advocating or campaigning to Leave-The-EU for these United Kingdoms and restoration of our independent sovereign, democracy, with Justice & the right to self determination in a free country & minded that membership of The EU is sucking out the life blood and identity of our Country in a counter patriotic manner and at a cost in hard cash of some £53 Million a day we must consider:
Denying the self seeking & meaningless wanabe MEPs and the no longer relevant MPs the Mythical Mandate for which they clamour.
Diktat is imposed from The EU but Law should be made at Westminster, for our Country & our Peoples, by the peoples of our Country.
It is time that the entire mechanism of governance in these United Kingdoms, which has so clearly failed our Country and our peoples, was radically overhauled and updated to democratic status – failure to change will mean when we Leave-The-EU and/or it finally collapses, as it surely will, we will be no better off as the self same self styled, self enriching clique will be all too willing to betray us as they have done relative to The EU and its fore runners.
To achieve change support rational planning as with The Harrogate Agenda and similar thinking of gravitas.
Demand a Royal Commission on the cost benefits of leaving The EU and of remaining its vassals with a clear ‘Exit & Survival Strategy‘ for implementation OR responsible contingency planning dependent on THEN holding a Referendum on IN or OUT to Let-The-People-Decide!
