As a follower of UKIP (why else would you read this blog!) you will of course be aware that Nigel Farage has been on the EU Fisheries Committee for many years, though I understand his involvement is tokenry and patchy to say the least!
Some years ago, an MEP and myself produced a booklet titled ‘Dead in the Water’. This was a critique of the Common Fisheries Policy, and we were both rather proud of it. It was very well received, although we had a wee bit of a problem because of it at a UKIP conference in Exeter.
We had booked a stand where we coud talk about, and distribute, the booklet. Then something interesting happened.
The organiser, who we had already paid for the stand, called and told me that a certain senior MEP had called him several times “begging” him to keep us away from the conference. Doesn’t like to be upstaged, see.
We attended anyway, and it was a success for us.
Yesterday the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly for CFP reform that should see the end, at last, to the practice of discarding dead fish in the sea. This is an issue that unites eurosceptics and europhiles alike. It is a disgraceful practice.
But I note that UKIP failed to vote in favour of this much needed reform.
I have read much criticism by UKIP members of the discards policy. So why did they not vote in favour?
Because if discards are banned, then they will have nothing to complain about, and complaining about anything and everything is their stock in trade. There is a lot more to CFP reform than eliminating discards, of course. These reforms will benefit the fishermen and the communities they support. They will benefit the consumer, and relieve the pressure on fish stocks and the environment. It was interesting to note attempts to block the reform by the Spanish, who are responsible for much of the problem. They will have been pleased to see UKIP helping them out by failing to back the reform.
If UKIP is not going to stand up for the interests of British fishermen, what is the point of them? Perhaps it is they who should be discarded!

Much of the information we publish is sourced from senior members of the party and EU insiders, it is always interesting to be in a position to publish their direct quotes from public sources, thus not placing them at risk from the centralised authoritarian style of the party, so distanced from its farcical claim to be Libertarian when clearly it has no understanding of the doctrine and would seem to believe the style is interchangeable with ‘libertine’.
UKIP’s “budget buster” on Farage’s dictatorship and his dislike of women
Marta Andreasen might not be a household name, but her story was made for the headlines.
As a former chief accountant to the European Commission and an Argentinian-born, Swedish-married, Spanish citizen, Andreasen is on paper the antithesis of a stereotypical UKIP member. Since blowing the whistle on her EU bosses for alleged account fiddling in 2002, Andreasen has become the poster child of the British right-wing, desperate to claw back power from the EU.
Upon joining UKIP in 2007, the so-called “budget buster” rose up the party ranks quickly, first serving as party treasurer and then as a UKIP MEP from 2009. She was even dubbed Nigel Farage’s right hand gal as the pair pledged to take Brussels by storm and bring the Brexit debate centre stage here in the UK.

But with only a year-and-a-half left to her term in Brussels, the 58-year-old considers her future with the party in serious doubt. And, with little left to lose but her reputation and a Euroscepticism to rival that of the fiercest Europhobes, Andreasen is going out swinging.
“Nigel promotes the people who say yes to him and will be grateful for getting the job and will never contradict him,” says Andreasen.
“Under his leadership – and I have questioned his leadership obviously a number of times – the party has become a dictatorship. This is a Stalinist way of operating and he doesn’t care about the membership or the grassroots…”
Andreasen says that Farage has worked to exclude her from the election list and that recent electoral party reforms – put forward to the members as part of the new UKIP Constitution – have been specifically created to target the few remaining independent party voices, such as herself. UKIP deny the claim and say that the draft reforms Andreasen has seen are not the final version.
“The new constitution for UKIP has empowered the leader in a disproportionate way. Notably in the election of candidates,” says Andreasen. “It has put the decision in his hands – literally.
“This was a matter of concern for much of the membership who didn’t realise when they were approving the constitution what the essence of the changes was.”
This will spell a future in the political wilderness for UKIP at a critical time in the EU membership debate, she insists

The backlash is only the latest in a line of UKIP revolts, going all the way up to UKIP founder Alan Sked who called the party “morally dodgy” and “extraordinarily right-wing”, as well as UKIP/Tory flip-flopper and MEP David Campbell-Bannerman.
In a recent interview with LondonlovesBusiness.com, Campbell-Bannerman said UKIP had “become very much a one-man band and a bit of a cult”.
“There is a followership and even the constitution has been changed to favour pro-leader candidates. I don’t think that’s healthy,” he added.
Late last year, Andreasen decided to pen her objections in an email to the UKIP’s south-east UK members. She quipped that the proposed changes, in effect, disenfranchised the base and allowed the national executive to dictate the MEP list selection process.
Andreasen also insisted that standing MEPs would not be informed about their right to run again until the last minute and that they would be barred from communicating to party members until the election, putting them at a severe disadvantage.
“I will find a possibility to serve my constituents in some way and to find a way to have them vote for me. Maybe the possibility will be that I will stand as an independent,” says Andreasen.
The reforms, she said, mean that the process will be manipulated and was already resulting in the “rumoured” fast-tracking of the controversial former Tory MP and now UKIP national executive member Neil Hamilton and his wife Christine, in the 2014 election list.
The letter was subsequently leaked, and Andreasen was left facing the prospect of a libel suit from Hamilton who slammed her for spreading “false rumours”. UKIP subsequently denied charges that Andreasen was threatened with de-selection by UKIP chairman Steve Crowther who called her statements “wrong”.
Regardless, exclusion from the 2014 election list now seems likely for the outspoken accountant, although Andreasen insists that it will not mark the end of her political career.
“I will find a possibility to serve my constituents in some way and to find a way to have them vote for me. Maybe the possibility will be that I will stand as an independent,” she says.
“Should I give up just because someone is bullying me not to stand?”
But why on earth does a South-American Spaniard care quite so much about her south east English constituents?
Well it seems, a part of it is personal, another ideological.
“Nigel does not like women,” says Andreasen. “He will not tolerate women that have a certain intelligence. He thinks women should be in the kitchen or in the bedroom. These are the two kinds of women he will respect, not a woman that says ‘things are not as you say and we should follow the rules’.
“Nigel does not like someone who will have reasonable ideas that contradict his ideas. He does not accept any contradiction to his ideas. Basically from day one, since I was elected, he was dismissive of my work.”
This doesn’t seem entirely in line with Farage’s original decision to select Andreasen or his support of Jane Collins for UKIP’s first parliamentary seat in last November’s by-election to replace disgrace Labour MP Denis MacShane, but Andreasen puts this down to pragmatism.
Staying candid about the reality that she owes her seat to Farage, the Spaniard nonetheless believes it was a two-way street. UKIP got Andreasen’s credibility, which she says they “desperately needed” at a time when David Cameron still felt it acceptable to publicly label UKIP “fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists”.

In part due to her help, UKIP has since gone on to win 13 seats in Brussels, at times outstripped the LibDems in national polling and even started to challenge the Conservatives for domination at the EU level. The Andreasen-Farage duo proved powerful, with the party scooping up almost 450,000 votes in 2009 in the south east, where there are only some 5,000 UKIP members.
In exchange for her “credibility,” Andreasen got a chance to go and reopen her unfinished work, combing through the EU’s accounts. She immediately joined the Committee on Budgetary Control, which promises to monitors the haemorrhaging of EU funds.
Her work, she believes, is instrumental in building the case for Brexit, an idea Andreasen is as passionate about as her UKIP peers.
“I joined UKIP because the Tories wanted to reform the EU and in my experience I thought that the EU could not be reformed. In the course of my years as an MEP, I have only grown more convinced of this,” says Andreasen.
“I have always felt that the UK was the only country that would have the power to change the EU and that they would be able to do this by either leaving the EU or threatening to leave the EU.
“Contrary to what people say, the UK brings more benefits to the EU than the EU brings to the UK,” she adds.
And once the UK leaves, or threatens to leave, Andreasen sees other countries starting to notice the clear disadvantages of membership, and breaking off too.
“It was immediately apparent to me that the EU system was open to fraud and that it was deliberately left open to fraud. I could see this very clearly,” she says.
This has not, and will not change without a serious push by the British, she insists.
Yet with Cameron now promising a referendum after the next election, and also heading to Europe to negotiate a budget freeze, Andreasen insists he will do just enough to convince the electorate that he is “trying”, without actually offering the much-needed drive to end senseless waste, burdensome bureaucracy and corruption.
“I think that Cameron will try to negotiate a few changes that will make his promises credible to people at least for some time. I believe some partners in the EU, notably Germany, will want to help him out. But we should not expect big and lasting changes to be accepted by the Brussels bureaucrats,” says Andreasen.
“I know that eventually the EU will come asking for more money, as happened with the budget for 2012 where Cameron claimed victory in freezing the budget with only a 2% increase – in line with inflation – but then at the end of the year an extra 9bn euro had to be injected to cover the pending invoices….so the increase was actually 9%. But this way Cameron gains 12 or 18 months.”
This is why UKIP continues to be a vital voice not only in the UK, but in Europe and the world, says Andreasen, and crucially why the party must pool all its resources into getting one or two members elected to Westminster not just Brussels.
“Farage is a good spokesman and he is good in the media, but he couldn’t care less about the membership and I don’t think that he would allow UKIP to be the party that is going to lead the way out of the EU – I don’t at all,” says Andreasen.
“Farage doesn’t care about getting MPs elected to Westminster and if we don’t get MPs elected then we will not be able to lead the process of leaving the EU.”
Comments like these already caused a public spat in 2011, when Andreasen called on Farage to resign following a poor showing in the national elections. He retaliated by calling her “out of touch”.
With council elections coming up this May, the EU elections next year and the general election in 2015, and a promised referendum on Europe two years later, the debate will only continue to heat up.
“We have limited resources so we can’t fight all the by-elections and when we do try and fight all these by-elections there is no way that we can succeed. We should concentrate on three or four places where we have a real chance of winning,” says Andreasen.
“But now Farage is saying that he wants candidates everywhere for the council elections. It is just a publicity stunt and this is why we get the candidates that we get. We get candidates that go on holiday when the election is going on or get people who come out with comments which are absolutely against the policy of the party.”
With opinions like these, the “budget buster” may find herself on a one-way road out of UKIP but don’t discount her going away just yet – her soap opera-like political saga seems far from over.

A senior member of the UK Independence Party has threatened to quit after accusing leader Nigel Farage of being a “Stalinist dictator” and “anti-women”.
Marta Andreasen, who represents the South East England in the European Parliament, said she was unlikely to stand as a UKIP candidate next year.
She told the BBC that Mr Farage did not want “intelligent, professional” women in key positions in the party.
He responded by describing the criticism as “laughable nonsense”.
Relations between the two have been strained for some time, with Ms Andreasen calling for Mr Farage to quit after the party’s poor performance in council elections in 2011.
Since then, UKIP’s fortunes have improved and it recorded its best performance in a parliamentary by-election in Rotherham in December.

Ms Andreasen, who worked for the European Commission before joining UKIP and being elected in 2009, told the BBC that “if things don’t change” within the party “she can’t imagine a way to continue”.
Of Mr Farage, she told LondonlovesBusiness.com: “Under his leadership – and I have questioned his leadership obviously a number of times – the party has become a dictatorship. This is a Stalinist way of operating and he doesn’t care about the membership or the grassroots.”
And she told the BBC she had been openly criticised by her party leader and other MEPs, suggesting that this amounted to bullying.
“I’ve been bullied, in private situations, for decisions I have made by Nigel. I have been accused of being disloyal, breaching confidence and breaching my contract with the party. There’s an attitude that either you keep silent about everything that’s been going on in the party or suffer the consequences.”
Ms Andreasen said she believed Mr Farage – who was re-elected as leader in 2010 after standing down a year earlier to contest a Westminster seat – “did not like women”.
“I am the only female MEP,” she added. “He doesn’t try to involve intelligent professional women in positions of responsibility in the party. He thinks women should be in the kitchen or in the bedroom.”
She said she planned to stay in the European Parliament as a UKIP representative until the end of the current Parliament in 2014, to see out her “mandate” and “look for ways I can continue to represent the membership”. She said she might consider standing as an independent next year.
‘No bar to advancement’Asked about Ms Andreasen’s comments, Mr Farage told the BBC: “This is just laughable nonsense.” When asked if he disliked women, he joked: “They’ve caused me a lot of trouble over the years.”
Mr Farage has defended UKIP as being different from other parties after Prime Minister David Cameron said some of its members were “pretty odd people”. He said UKIP did have “some eccentrics” but this was healthy and he was an unusual party leader in that he was a conviction politician.
Ms Andreasen is the party’s sole remaining female MEP, after Nikki Sinclaire was expelled from UKIP in 2010.
Ms Sinclaire later brought a sexual discrimination case against the party which was subsequently dropped.
At the time, the party issued a statement affirming its “opposition to discrimination on all grounds as prescribed by law and otherwise” and stressed that sexuality was “no bar to involvement or advancement” within the party.

clearly UKIP has virtually no understanding of political doctrines, which has led them into the oft made proud boast of being Libertarian – Under no circumstances can UKIP be presented as Libertarian and all too often it would seem they have confused Libertarian with libertine, in the light of the louche behaviour and sadly often lewd behaviour of their leadership clique and its immediate claque of paid supporters.
The unprofessionalism of UKIP is all too often seen in the manner in which these self serving clowns rig their own elections and their overt support for racism, anti homosexuality, anti Judaism, xenophobia and criminality all seemingly in the interest of self enrichment.
The selection process and appointments are all centrally controlled either by Nigel Farage or those he has employed or engineered into position thus it is clear where ‘The Buck Stops’.
Olly Neville was an openly de3clared Libertarian, in the true sense of extremist behaviour with a record for self publicity and outspoken stupidity. Yet due to UKIP’s utter unprofessionalism he was selected by the pretence for leadership within UKIP as chairman of their heavily controlled Yoof wing – a recipe for disaster.
Even in his own election statement was clear appare4nt advocacy of incest thinly masked as ‘only for debate’ yet due to lack of professionalism UKIP’s pretence at leadership failed to realise their folly and sanctioned his appointment.
Yes they have summarily dismissed him from his elected post but that has done little to prevent his name and his childish shock comments from being for ever linked to UKIP!

Was David Cameron too kind when he described the United Kingdom Independence Party as being made up of “fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists”?
Olly Neville, who was the leader of Ukip’s youth wing until earlier this month, has written an article in praise of sexual intercourse with dead bodies. “What is wrong with necrophilia?” is the title of the piece, which he wrote for the Backbencher, a “libertarian” online magazine.

In the first part of ‘What is wrong with’, I looked at the moral and practical justification (or lack thereof) for the current ban on consensual incest. Today, I take one murky step further into the realms of unpleasant sexual acts with a look at what is wrong with Necrophilia.Necrophilia does not have some of the ‘problems’ that incest faced. There is no real prospect of pregnancy or any of the issues related with that. However, it does face what is at first glance the larger issue that the person you are having sex with is dead, so can’t consent. One of the big arguments for incest was that it was consensual, so surely this barrier halts those with a corpse fetish dead in their tracks (excuse the pun).
This is in fact not necessarily the case; consent can be given. I’ll add a general caveat here despite the fact that those that wish to be offended/sickened won’t read and won’t care about it. Legalising necrophilia does not mean legalising having random sex with any corpse you want – just like legal sex doesn’t mean you can sleep with any person you want.
Consent can be given by the owner of the corpse. When someone dies they no longer can own property – they pass on their belongings to a person or persons of their choosing. Your body is another one of your belongings, clearly you own your body in life but as you can’t own it when you cease to exist, it, like all other possessions, is inherited by the person you specify. It becomes their corpse.
At the moment people allow their organs to be taken and transplanted on death, their bodies used for medical science. I see no problem in an individual donating or selling their body to a necrophiliac. But going further (which is where people will probably disagree with me) I believe that once you have given your body to someone it is theirs to do with as they wish. If they want to sell it on so be it. If a body is just another possession in that it can be owned like any other, and used like any other.
This, of course, can be avoided by having your inheritee sign a contract – probably with your lawyers – that they will do with your body as you require, as a condition on inheriting it and anything else. In most cases if you want your body buried or cremated your loved ones will do it, rather than have sex with it. But if you are truly distrusting, a contract can ease your fears.
So consensual necrophilia is possible, getting agreement from the person before death, or from the owner of a corpse who inherited it without being required to not sell it on. Of course necrophilia poses other problems such as diseases, but banning it for this reason opens up a can of worms in regard to whether you can ban things because the person doing it might hurt themselves. Having normal sex can cause disease, base jumping is likely to see you hurt. Necrophilia can be no more banned due to risk of disease than rugby can be banned due to risk of broken bones.
I would be interested to hear people’s views on whether a body can be treated as a possession. Despite many people’s attachment to their bodies and their natural squeamishness at the prospect of people having sex with a corpse, neither desiring a body not to be property, nor disgust at the implications makes it not so. Necrophilia is pretty disgusting a concept, which is why most people don’t do it, but here like in any case – as JS Mill said:
“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”

Are we to believe that UKIP might professionalise and show a more mature and competent side in the future? Well sadly not as their lack of leadership and self indulgent stupidity has been a stock in trade for many years, hence there are very few informed individuals who take them remotely seriously and they pose their greatest threat; not as the dellusionally claim, to The Tories as in the next breath they claim to take votes from all parties alike (few as that may be!) but more realistically their crass antics and lack of any political gravitas does the most harm to The EUroSceptic movement and those who wish to Leave-The-EU.
I apologise for my poor posting record recently but have spent almost all of the time from 09-Jan > 27-Jan in hospital.
Fortunately unrelated directly to my battle with cancer since Nov-1998, which at the moment seems won, as my full body CT Scan last Thursday was showing absolutely no sign of cancer for the first time in 14 years.
Details, for those seeking the encouragement of the story of my survival against horrendous odds, will be on my health blog shortly.
I shall be heavily plagiarising the works of others (with permission, where required) to infill such gaps as seem apposite over the next few days – including Team Junius.

The Prime Minister’s Speech Has Made Today a Victory for Ukip

The very fact that we are talking about the possibility of Britain leaving the European Union is Ukip’s biggest victory to date.
Even five years ago the thought of this issue being even discussed was an anathema and it is a great triumph for the tens of thousands of Ukip members and supporters that they have, through calm and passionate arguments, put it on the nation’s agenda.
Today we heard the skeleton of the ‘Yes’ side’s argument: how the prime minister will lead a Yes vote. It will be a campaign based on the 1970s ‘Common Market’ argument where we are bombarded with views on how essential the single market is to this country. Just as people thought they were voting on a trade deal back in 1975 they will be told that the EU is beneficial to this country and our economy.
But we know the clear benefits to being an independent, global country active on the world stage. We understand the opportunities from rediscovering our links with the Commonwealth and not only slashing the regulations to allow our own economy to flourish but engaging in free and fair trade with those countries being left reliant on aid by the protectionist measures of the EU and other trade blocs.
If David Cameron had promised a free and fair In/Out referendum during this parliament I would have cheered him. But we haven’t been offered that. Cast Iron Dave – who has a track record on denying the people the chance to have their say – will instead ask the public to forget recent history and trust a manifesto pledge.
It is clear the prime minister has been forced by public opinion to offer a referendum but it is also clear that the renegotiation he speaks of will be little more than lip service. EU leaders have been clear in their warnings to the prime minister that there cannot be an a la carte EU and recently proposed changes can be done without a new Treaty. This denies Mr Cameron the negotiating position he is insisting he has.
They might let us catch herrings in the Solent but not much more.
As far as Ukip goes, claims that there is no longer a need for us are nonsense. The genie is out of the bottle: the fight for our country’s liberty starts today and we are more relevant than ever.
Greg L-WHi, UKIP dishonestly seek credit for Cameron’s decision to hold a referendum but looking at the facts they have done little towards achieving one.
UKIP did claim to hold a petition once but the £250K of tax payers money for the cause was never accounted for, seemingly trousered by Farage, Lott, Croucher and possibly others as no petition was ever presented!
They did nothing in Britain to oppose The EU’s new constitution which was rebranded The Lisbon Treaty!
They have done much to help The EU refusing to assist in campaigning for an In/Out Referendum, opposing the hugely successful efforts of Nikki Sinclaire and her team which gathered over 1/4M signatures for a debate in The House of Commons and a back bench rebellion, largely the force behind Cameron’s efforts to fudge a referendum. As it stands the referendum promised is of little validity and zero integrity.
The codicils to Cameron’s promise render his promise of no value as an IN/OUT referendum merely a sop to the majority in Britain who actively wish to Leave-The-EU.
It is only recently that UKIP have started to realise the route out of The EU is via article 50, until now they have attacked anyone who have endeavoured to lay out or even discuss the facts.
UKIP have done much harm to the EUroSceptic cause, with overt support of racism, anti homosexuality and undeniable bullying and lies in efforts to defame those telling the truth.
Message to jamcreton; You are off message !… The People want to leave Europe, They demand their say. Let them vote, freely and fairly…then we will see exactly who is “delusional”..
although the people want to Leave-The-EU unfortunately UKIP failed to take any part in gainiong a referendum and clearly have failed to command any gravitas in political terms, being dependent on one man as the performing monkey but bereft of any signs of an organ grinder.
At the moment it is clear that the vote would go against the interestys of the people as salaries and scams will come to play in a referendum and the people are woefully ill informed and are likely to succumb to the scare tacticst of the well funded pro EU lobby and scoundrels like Mandelson, Branson and many more act6ing in personal self interest.
A referendum to Leave-The-EU would be lost based on the lies, spin, propaganda and self interest of political scoundrels and their parasites.

I apologise for my poor posting record recently but have spent almost all of the time from 09-Jan > 27-Jan in hospital.
Fortunately unrelated directly to my battle with cancer since Nov-1998, which at the moment seems won, as my full body CT Scan last Thursday was showing absolutely no sign of cancer for the first time in 14 years.
Details, for those seeking the encouragement of the story of my survival against horrendous odds, will be on my health blog shortly.
I shall be heavily plagiarising the works of others (with permission, where required) to infill such gaps as seem apposite over the next few days – including Team Junius.

And so the UKIP NEC elections are almost upon us! The usual Farage sycophants are there! Wolfman McGough is trying to get another chance to kiss Nigel’s arse at every opportunity and Toby Micklethwait is hoping yet again to win favour. He claims to be against Farage but don’t you believe it! Don’t be silly enough to voice any criticism of Nigel if Toby’s around because you can be sure that it will get straight back to the Fuhrer! The only candidate worthy of election is Chris Pain.
We note that UKIP’s leadership think 2013 is actually 2012. Brings to mind that old saying about not being able to organise a p*ss up in brewery. Remember the London elections fiasco? UKIP failed to put the party’s name on the ballot paper. And these chumps want to run the country!

Certain British Eurosceptics are ‘dangerous when drunk’, claims an ally of David Cameron’s Conservative Party in Brussels. PublicServiceEurope.com reports
Britain’s United Kingdom Independence Party – or UKIP as it now prefers to be known – is full of “hooligans” and “bar fighters”, alleged a vice president of one of the European Parliament’s political groups on Tuesday. Some of UKIP’s Eurosceptic MEPs “are against everything in the European Union apart from the money and the allowances they get themselves,” according to Derk-Jan Eppink MEP, vice-president of the European Conservatives and Reformists – the group that is home to Britain’s Conservative Party MEPs.
Talking at a conference organised by the Association of European Journalists – Eppink, a former journalist and one-time European Commission cabinet member, gave UKIP’s Brussels contingent both barrels. It was important for people know “what they are like”, he claimed. “If they get drunk they get very dangerous,” was one of the allegations he put to a gathering at the Brussels Press Club. “They present themselves as white knights but they are not.” If UKIP MEPs did any work, it was usually “appalling”, he alleged.
British Eurosceptics often did not bother to turn up at committees or parliament plenary sessions. Centre-right parties have on occasion been “one or two votes short of stopping the left” in key votes that were lost because UKIP MEPs were “not there”, it was said. And UKIP was a party of “vox-pop politicians” with “no grassroots support”, Eppink claimed when continuing his diatribe. Eurosceptics took European funding and “funnelled it into their party”, he added, and UKIP’s parliamentary members often flitted between parties or found themselves “investigated” – he suggested.
Debating Europe with UKIP supporters often turned into an “aggressive” exchange involving “abusive language”, said Eppink. “They are sort of hooligans,” he told the gathering “apart from Nigel Farage” – the UKIP leader. And UKIP supporters and British Eurosceptics in general were “hard to convince with facts and figures”, said Eppink, a Dutchman who has crossed over into Belgian politics. “A positive agenda is very hard to sell,” he said – a problem he predicted would face British Prime Minister David Cameron if and when he campaigns for the UK to remain in the EU ahead of a referendum.
Eppink’s venting of the spleen seemed to have been fuelled in part by what he described as “a very unpleasant dinner” in the UK that descended into a shouting match with a British academic. “I discovered afterwards that he was linked to UKIP,” Eppink said. He often travelled to Britain at the invitation of British Tory MEPs in the ECR group, he said, visiting towns such as Nottingham “where I would never go as a tourist”.
The Tories in the ECR group were almost all in favour of remaining in the 27-member bloc, he claimed; citing both personal contacts and Twitter feeds as evidence. Only Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan was likely to vote for the UK to withdraw, he predicted. Cameron’s Europe speech earlier this month was, in Eppink’s opinion, an attempt to regain ground lost to UKIP. The British PM was “asking questions other leaders were afraid to ask”, he said, such as whether Europe could continue with its current “one size fits all” approach; or whether it should adopt a more flexible à la carte formation.
A piecemeal approach to European integration was in reality already taking shape, he pointed out. In addition to the Schengen free movement area, the eurozone, and the various opt-outs enjoyed by countries such as the UK, Denmark and Ireland, Brussels law-makers were increasingly resorting to “enhanced cooperation” – a process by which a group of nine or more member states can forge ahead with laws of their own. “Without flexibility the EU will not work,” said Eppink, who described himself as a Euroscepetic in Brussels but a Europhile in the UK.
Issuing a strong rebuttal to Eppink’s criticisms of UKIP, party spokesman Gawain Towler said: “I wonder if Mr Eppink’s speech was made ‘after lunch’. It seems a little intemperate. UKIP of course is not in the European Parliament to tinker round the edges but to work to get the UK out of the EU. That Cameron has offered a referendum is a small victory, that Dirk-Jan believes that 24 out of 25 Tory MEPs will vote to stay in the EU, rather makes our point about that party.”
Eppink became a well-known figure in Brussels following the success of his book Life of a European Mandarin, which lifted the lid on the workings of the European Commission. In it he describes the shenanigans of lobbyists and officials and underlines the extent to which key decisions are made out of the public eye. He served in the cabinets of former Dutch Commissioner Frits Bolkestein and Siim Kallas, the current European Transport Commissioner.
This is clearly much of the reason why Cameron’s Tories do not see UKIP as any kind of a threat to them in domestic elections, where UKIP consistently average around 3% and even when they do bet6ter they, by their own proud boast, take votes from both Labour & Tories.
To date UKIP have patently failed to make any kind of a breakthrough in domestic politics and are dependent on the anonymity of a rigged party list system to make what gains they do win The EU, where the electorate use them as a dustbin for protest votes at a time when the majority are grossly unhappy with our membership of The EU – UKIP has failed totally to capitalise on what was once their core message Leave-The-EU – beguiled by dreams of enrichment through a political status that they have to date failed to grasp in any meaningful manner.

Clean EUkip up NOW & make UKIP electable!

The corruption of some of EUkip’s leadership, their anti UKIP claque & the NEC is what gives the remaining 10% a bad name!
What is the Exit and Survival Plan for these United Kingdoms to maximise on the many benefits when we Leave-The-EU. It is the DUTY of our Politicians and Snivil Cervants to ensure the continuity, liberty and right to self determination of our peoples – they have a DUTY to protect against crime and secure both our food and our borders.
They also have a duty to put in place contingency plans for the collapse of The EUro & The EU or the wishes of the peoples of Britain to Leave-The-EU.
NONE of these DUTIES has a single British politician upheld for over 40 years. They have drawn their incomes fraudulently and dishonesty.
Politicians are failing to tell the truth, but so are almost all wanabe Politicians, the Main Stream Media and Snivil Cervants.
The fact is that even if EVERY British MEP wanted change in The EU it would achieve NOTHING, at very best if they ALL agreed they would then still have less than a 10% say in the governance of Britain by The EU.
Every single British Politician, of EVERY Party, elected since before we joined the EUropean Common Market, has promised to change The EU’s CAP – In 40 Years they have achieved absolutely NOTHING towards that unanimous promise!
To try to put a value on OUR Freedom is as futile as floccipaucinihilipilification and as odious as the metissage of our societies, as we rummage in the ashes of our ancestors dreams, sacrifices and achievements, the flotsam of our hopes and the jetsam of our lives, consider the Country and Anglosphere which we thus leave our children and the future, with shame!

Nigel Farage & UKIP’s Hypocricy re. EU Referendum knows no bounds!
Having done NOTHING to support The Referendum and all he could to help The EU sabotage Nikki Sinclaire’s achievements the duplicitous scoundrel is now trying to lay claim to participation!
It seems that the UKIP press office’s traditional fondness for unnecessary commas is as strong as ever, but even without the 5 commas, the first sentence of this press release is appalling. This is not the way to impress journalists, chaps!
But if you want to really give the editors a good laugh, what you do is you send out your press release, and then follow it up with an amendment 30 minutes later.

The genie is out of the bottle
Responding to David Cameron’s speech this morning, that offered an In/Out referendum that takes place, after the 2015 parliamentary elections, conditional on negotiations with the EU to reclaim powers, Nigel Farage MEP, the UKIP leader said,
“What the PM said today has defined the national debate about our place in the European Union. No longer can the case for British withdrawal be confined to the margins. The genie is out of the bottle”.
He went on to say,
“Whilst UKIP, regards todays speech as its greatest achievement to date, the real work for our party has only just begun”.
“The PM has made clear his commitment to the EU Single Market, which will now become the rallying point for the old establishment in this country. Our job will be to point out that argument for the Single Market, is just the same as one used for the Common Market years ago”.
We will campaign for a trade deal with Europe, to cooperate and to be good neighbours but we do not want membership of a political union”.
And here is the amendment……
“UKIP Leader Nigel Farage also questioned whether Mr Cameron was completely devoted to taking powers back from Europe or whether his pledge was merely a ploy for election votes.
Farage continued: “If Mr Cameron was really serious about renegotiation, then he would invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which is the only mechanism that exists within the treaties to take powers back.
“If he did that … I will take him seriously, but really I think all he is trying to do is to kick the can down the road and get Ukip off his back.”
Aside from the grossly amateurish way in which this was presented to the press, this raises questions about Farage’s commitment to a referendum. So he wants the Prime Minister to invoke Article 50 before the British people have had their say in a referendum? And note the way he claims credit for Cameron’s announcement on a referendum. Hypocrite!
