PLEASE NOTE
I have received, a couple of days ago (21-Apr-2017), the following communication from Alex Wood:
Hi,
In 2013 I stood as a candidate for UKIP in the Somerset County Council elections. I was falsely accused of being a Nazi/racist; in particular by the Daily Mirror. More than two years later, in August 2013, they finally issued a retraction and publicly apologised to me. Since then, I have been going to great lengths to find all related articles online and have as many of them altered or removed as possible.
Unfortunately, such articles continue to resurface and threaten my reputation, despite the fact that I have already cleared my name. As I’m sure you can imagine, this is quite distressing for me.
I am contacting you because you still host such material on your website. I was therefore hoping that you’d be able to amend the following article on your website and remove any mention, images and references relating to myself.
You will appreciate that when I published the information I acted in good faith having followed the lead & quoted the media – as soon as Alex Wood contacted me I clarified the facts.
I totally endorse The Mirror’s published correction the link to which was supplied by Alex Wood. I regret any distress I may have caused him as a result of my republishing what had every semblance of facts at the time.
I responded to Alex Wood as follows:

Hi,
I have drawn attention to the fact that you were cleared on the posting concerned, which you drew my attention to – as you can now see.
Having been the victim of near institutionalised campaigns of lies by Ukip and many in Ukip may I reasure you that there is little need to be distressed by either error or malicious attempts to damage ones reputation.
Be minded that your family and friends know you and will support you and the raft of parasites, mischiefmakers and so called friends on the internet are of absolutely no consequence.
Good luck – I trust by now you have seen the folly of supporting the self serving charlatans and scoundrels who in the main comprise the leadership of Ukip.
Regards, Greg_L-W.

In print and online articles in April and May 2013 we said that Alex Wood, who was standing for UKIP in the May 2013 local elections in Somerset, had been photographed making a ‘Nazi salute’. We also said that he had made racist comments on Facebook.
We now accept that these allegations were wrong and there is no reason to believe that Mr Wood is a racist or a Nazi. The photograph, one of a series of photographs appearing on his Facebook page, was taken out of context. Mr Wood was reaching out to stop a friend taking a photo on a mobile phone. The comments on Facebook purportedly made by Mr Wood were not made by him and the police have confirmed that they were not made by Mr Wood.
We apologise to Mr Wood for the allegations made and any hurt and distress caused as a result. We hope this apology will go some way to repairing Mr Wood’s reputation.”

Hi, here is an error for you. I DID NOT write the comments i was accused of by the press and others yourselves included, a vicious character, researcher for The Argus by name Colin Corbus is behind this i believe, and others, and fortunately, underestimated the intelligence of voters, colleagues, friends, family and so on who recognised immediately, that i (aimed at UKIP) was the victim of dirty tricks aimed at quieting me, scaring me and even possibly endangering me, to maintain the status quo and discredit UKIP from the left, right and/or the EU… Clearly they were worried indeed about UKIPs impact and possibly mine too. What they did do was take comments i had made about Zionism as a political movement and twisted, distorted and added to them, having created a ghost FB account (i had no idea existed even till a colleague noticed it). It is not repeat NOT anti semitic to take a view about Zionism as a political movement. Period. Do your research. It is propaganda to suggest otherwise. I have not read your unpleasant comments about me being anti semitic nor will i but, i am informed they are libellous. FYI. Had UKIPs Press Office handled this as they should have more professionally (possibly due to inexperience) and told me that The Argus were about to go to print with libellous “stuff” i was alleged to have written but which rather, was written in my name, which they did NOT incidentally,, then i could have given The Argus my side of the story… they were waiting to hear from me.. only i had been told by UKIP NOT to speak to the press, that the PO would deal with any/all enquiries about candidates of which i was one (originally just paper and my UKIP colleague Sonia Finch and i did not get going as full candidates until late into the campaign). Little did i know what had been written, i knew NOTHING of it… Later, the BBC, Courier and even the nationals gave me a chance to speak up and printed my denial. They in fact, all came to my home to interview me at length which i was happy to do. I did not seek out all this publicity, far from it, but, i had no choice but to deal with it. Since then, my phone line has been tapped, my FB and Twitter are being monitored (I have now closed down my Twitter) and frankly, though i have weathered this vicious attack upon my good name with dignity, helped not least by the full support i have received from my (UKIP) branch at Wealden for which i am most grateful, is it any wonder i have thought long and hard about ever putting myself forward as a candidate again in order to try to support and help my community or country ever again. No wonder so few quality candidates come forward (often women) to stand when as soon as they put their heads above the parapet they are subjected to such venom. Thus, the EU remains in tact and the agenda for a socialist and federalist State of Europe remains too… I have no idea why you are so against UKIP… they aren’t perfect, they have made some mistakes it seems, but, at grassroots level we remain committed to helping our communities and country, by giving local people their power back, referendums at local level, reducing expenditure and so forth. Despite all attempts to discredit me, i went on (along with my UKIP colleague Sonia Finch) to do very well at the CC Election beating both the pro EU parties Labour and Lib Dems by a mile.
