Hi,
it would seem that this correspondent in The Plymouth Herald has a far greater understanding of the facts and how politics works, particularly local politics, than UKIP’s leadership clique and their entire claque of self serving fools, many of them too ashamed of the stupidity they are expected to spout to be willing to put their names to their fake identities!

It is hard to portray just how implausible and dishonest is the UKIP spin on their catastrophic failure in the rec ent local elections where out of 4,987 available seats they failed totally in 4,978 of them!! Only getting 9 people elected.

As the correspondent in Plymouth so clearly states ‘there are no silver medals for coming second’!

UKIP was unable to find candidates willing or able to stand in most of the seats and there were very many who our country were VERY lucky were not elected! Liars & cheats like Mick McGough and other low lifes and even then the standard of those elected (9) was staggeringly inappropriate as has already been noted, with many examples.

UKIP’s vote across the country was a meagre 5% as in London where they had made a special effort and where without a special effort in The London Mayoral elec tion UKIP achieved a risible 1.96%

Lets face it UKIP has proved completely unfit for purpose in terms of domestic politics, there being some 19,500 seats available by election and taking those of ANY relevance UKIP has obtained less than 20, though with their fractious, bullying and squabbling self serving MEPs that makes it up to around 30 out of the relevant6 seats – they are nowhere near ever getting an MP elected and have an irrelevant number of EU Assembly members in in the EU’s Welsh, London, Scotland and Ireland  Assemblies irelevant being ZERO!

Were UKIP a PLC their board wouldlong ago have been fired and in the light of their track record of corruption and fraud, if one considers collusion in cover up of fraud, it is hard to think of a single MEP who would be considered fit to be a director!

SOMEWHAT predictably, the leader of UKIP in Plymouth, David Salmon, seemed quite pleased with his party’s election results on May 3 (May 10).

However, I feel the bottom line on UKIP’s performance was that at the end of the night they failed to win a single seat. Mr Salmon in Plymstock Dunstone and his UKIP colleague in Plymstock Radford came closest to upsetting the incumbent Tory councillors, yet you have to question how serious they were in their endeavours to get elected. Certainly in my polling district, no leaflets were received from UKIP and Mr Salmon seemed happy to carry out his electioneering via The Herald.

True, UKIP did hold a meeting with their party leader as the star turn at the Guildhall, which was open to all. How many people these days find the time to attend such rallies, particularly for local elections? Although a reported 250 people attended the meeting, that figure only represents a very small proportion of Plymouth’s population.

Back in the days when such political rallies were far more popular, I was lucky enough to attend a packed rally at the then Plymouth Polytechnic. The star speaker was the late, great David Penhaligon MP, who was a fine orator who held his audience spellbound. His main theme was simple and one he used many times. That theme was, at election time, if you want to get your message across to the electorate, and I quote: “You have to stick it on a piece of paper and stick it through everyone’s letterbox”.

Perhaps if the UKIP candidates had stuck their message through every letterbox in Plymstock, there would now be two UKIP councillors on Plymouth City Council? Many people that I spoke to at my local polling station said that they had also not received any literature, except from the Tory candidate. Some said they would never vote for someone who could not be bothered to deliver a leaflet. In my opinion, this was a missed opportunity for UKIP in Plymstock.

I believe that through their own political naivety, UKIP will learn the hard way something I learnt many years ago – and that is there are no silver medals for coming second in council elections. It will always be so, as long as the first past the post system prevails.

Last year’s referendum was a strong indication that first past the post is here to stay, so UKIP need to learn how to work it.
