2 Ukip County Councillors Quit The Party In Gloucestershire – Nationally at their zenith Ukip had 488 seats out of the 21,000 available, I wonder howmany are left! Considering how many MEPs Ukip has lost it is little wonder that Nigel Farage has quit particularly now that the hard work is just materialising for BreXit.

TWO UKIP councillors have walked out of the party – with one returning to the Conservatives and the other now sitting as an Independent.
Both Alan Preest and Colin Guyton sat as UKIP councillors on Gloucestershire County Council and Forest of Dean District Council.
UKIP’s leader on the district council, Cllr Richard Leppington (Blakeney and Bream) said the party would not be affected by the defections which were made public after the recent EU referendum vote.
Cllr Preest, who represents Lydney on the county council and Lydney North on the district council, has returned to the Conservatives.
Cllr Guyton represents Drybrook at county level and Lydbrook and Ruardean on the Forest Council. His party affiliation is described as ’Independent’ on the county website and UKIP officials have confirmed he is no longer represents the party.
Cllr Preest said he could achieve more for Lydney as part of a larger group and had made his decision after speaking to many people in the town.
He said electors could pass their verdict on his decision as a county councillor at the election next year and he would prompt a by-election at district level “if there was a call for it.”
He said: “I’ve gone as far as I can with UKIP – I’ve had five good years with them but I think I’ve done as much as I can.
“My mandate is to take Lydney forward and I think I can continue to do that better as part of a group.
“A lot has been achieved and that is the mandate that has to be taken forward. What else can I do as UKIP councillor?
“I’ve not taken this decision lightly, I’ve spoken to a lot of people around the town and I’ve had favourable comments.”
Cllr Leppington said: “Ukip remains a strong voice for the people of the Forest of Dean.”
Ukip’s Forest branch chairman, Mr Alec Tritton, said the first they knew of Cllr Preest’s defection was when they were contacted by the media.
He said: “As Mr Preest has not been a member of UKIP since October 1 2015 (it was) not unexpected.
“This is despite numerous conversations by both our district council leader, Richard Leppington, and myself with Mr Preest concerning his membership.”
The Review was unable to contact Cllr Guyton.

A SENIOR UKIP leader in Gloucestershire has jumped ship and re-joined the Conservative party on the county council.
Alan Preest, who led the party on Gloucestershire County Council, quit the party saying it “doesn’t really have a point any more” after the EU Referendum.
Cllr Preest announced his decision to re-join the Conservatives – who he left in 2008 to help UKIP’s cause.
The councillor for Lydney, who also serves on Forest of Dean District Council, said: “I’ve gone as far as I can as a UKIP councillor.
“With the referendum out of the way, UKIP doesn’t really have a point any more.
“I got into politics for one reason only – to do the best for Lydney and people who live here.
“I can do that job much better as part of a Conservative team. I will be applying to stand as a Conservative at next year’s county election.”
His decision means that the UKIP group at county level is reduced to two councillors, whilst the Conservative Group increases to twenty-five councillors.
Cllr Preest previously served as a Conservative County Councillor until 2008.
He has officially joined the Conservative Party, and the county Conservative group, and is applying to rejoin the Conservative group on Forest of Dean district council.

Conservative councillor Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said the decision was a sign of unity in post-Brexit politics.“This is a great example of how our country is beginning to pull together after the referendum,” he said.
“Alan Preest is an excellent local councillor, who does a fantastic job representing the people of Lydney – he will be a welcome addition to the Conservative team.”

A West Midlands regional membership spread sheet, showing the variations in membership numbers by month shown to the Junius team reveal that its Solihull and Meriden Branch chairman John Ison has set a new party record in losing his association a staggering 16 members since April 2012, that’s nearly a 30% decrease in just 4 months!Ison has resided over the collapse of the (until recently) largest branch in the West Midlands! Before he took over the branch was thriving had 100+ members, BUT is now down to a pitiful 45 members. (So a near loss of 65 members over his entire chairmanship of just over 12 months!)In the same period all branch activity as stopped, before ISON took over the branch it had 17 candidates in place for the 2010 local elections. This year he didn’t put up a single candidate!Proof that more and more people are distancing themselves from this vindictive and largely untrustworthy individual !Mr Ison now appears to ruling his sinking ship with an iron fist to hold some level of position within UKIP. Aware of his own local unpopularity Ison has refused on hold an AGM for the branch fearing that a vote of no confidence will be issued and passed against him!Constitutionally this is not allowed though how much longer will UKIP let it continue???????? Will the West Midlands RO step in a either to dissolve the branch or demand an EGM to hold the yearly elections as per party rules ?ADDITION AS COMMENT 05-Aug-2012:Hi,
isn’t Gordon Parkin having the same result in his region for much the same reasons? Also I do gather that other than their own personal interests Peter Reeve & Lisa Duffy are having a near catastrophic effect in their region and with UKIP Yoof!Then of course we note the catastrophic behaviour of Derek Clark who has not only abused his office and the trust of the electorate but lied to his committee, his members and his electorate and been aided by his hugely over salaried staff Ron Ransome The Regional Organiser and his wife in their region.The abysmal results and general embarrassment of the results in London are irrefutable and as London MEP Gerard Batten has shown the public clearly reject his racist views and incitement to race hate as he works with extremist groups and criminals to promote his personal values (or transparent lack of!).That the party chairman was sat upon to carry the can and pretended to resign speaks volumes – that even this turned out to be a dishonest move and he is still publishing idiotic newsletters as Party Chairman is plain for all to see. Clearly no one of gravitas, competence or integrity sat on that particular ‘Chair’ with any plausible effect!
Clearly the party lacks any credible leadership or understanding of duty, integrity, morality or responsibility – Farage is on record stating UK elections dont matter! Well no, not to him as his pockets are stuffed with the bribes of The EU!
UKIP couldn’t care less about honesty, probity, democracy or basic common decency it is clear.
The party makes huge claims of leaps forward and expectations of glory yet imn reality they never seem to reflect in the ballot box.There may well be more members than at their all time low, not so long ago, when estimates had them at 8>10,000 members based upon their turnout to vote and track record in internal elections.That they have grown is hardly worthy of dispute as one need only look at the caliber of those who they put forward in leadership and the only means of defending themselves would seem not to be results or even sound argument but desperate efforts to denigrate and defame those supporters who dare to have a view contrary to their self interests on the gravy train.
Yes to be fair UKIP has gained a Town councillor in Lydney and describe his result to be based on ‘a strong turnout’ OK let us judge UKIP by their claims:
Alan Preest was elected.
Alan Preest would seem to have had to quit as a Tory County Councillor.
Alan Preest was seemingly forced to resign from The Tory Party.
Alan Preest is a common thief who has been unable to clear his name!
The actual ‘strong turnout’ was in fact only 22%
Thus, yes Alan Preest won but on a vote of indifference with only 16% of the electorate in his sector of this little town even bothering to vote!
Is linking their name with low lifes and liars, thieves and dissemblers, liars and cheats really the way forward for UKIP?
One need only consider those in positions of leadership and responsibility to know the party is of no consequence and going nowhere in its present state.

Derek Clark Liar, Cheat, Thief, dishonourable and utterly dishonest (UKIP & EFD MEP)

I am a dedicated UKIP supporter but will ONLY vote for it when it is cleaned up and fit for purpose – which as Junius regularly shows, it is not!

It is hard to see how the achievement of 16% of the electorate voting a man with Alan Preest’s track record onto even a council as irrelevant as he has gained can help UKIP!
Surely UKIP should seek to improve its record of honesty at all cost, not link its reputation with such a man for so paltry and insignificant a post!
.~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~.Hi,it seems that despite a relatively high profile PPC in The FoD and the long term home of UKIP’s full time umbrella salesman who has for many years held a well paid UKIP job the best they seem to have managed is a largely irrelevant TOWN councillor!To be fair Alan Preest obtained a VERY good percentage, with 74% of the 22% who turned out to vote giving 16% of the electorate (which would tend to reflect the irrelevance of town & parish councils where frequently for lack of interest town clerks tend to try to fill the seats by co-option).The result was even more interesting when you note Alan Preest had been a COUNTY councillor but was seemingly forced out over controversy and would seem to have been forced to resign from The Tory Party due to his inability to clear his name as a common thief.Of course he fits right in with a certain sector of UKIP leadership and its odious and dishonest claque.HOW can UKIP be taken seriously if time and time again it opts to aid and promote liars, cheats, thieves and low calliber wannabes?You may recal the idiotic comment of the proven liar and cheat Mick McGough CLICK HERE who asked on the dishonest and squalid UKIP controlled public forum owned by Anthony Butcher:Do MEP staffers write for the Junius/GLW axis

I think we should be told
Firstly since when are Junius blog and those who post to it and myself an ‘axis’ – there are many supporters of the principle of Leave-The-EU who would like to see UKIP cleaned up and the low lifes and scoundrels who have hitched a ride on the gravy train removed to make UKIP fit for purpose with basic ethics that would justify the votes of decent, moral, informed individuals to turn UKIP into a force for leadership of the Leave-The-EU movement – honesty and probity, transparency and duty may be alien concepts to Mick McGough and his self seeking ilk currently aiding The EU’s control of these United Kingdoms.Whether the all too obvious assistance these odious UKIPpers give the EU is deliberate or through dishonesty and stupidity is a moot point, though the track record would seem to indicate it is done out of self interest and with no thought of others and in betrayal of these United Kingdoms.I appreciate this silly little man is, in this instance, only mischief making and dishonestly setting up a piece to try to defame myself and those who contribute to ‘Junius’ based on his lies, distortions and general lack of understanding of ethics, morality or common decency – a trait followed by many of UKIP’s leadership and its cowardly claque of internet liars and stalkers.Just as with the article Mick McGough queried it was clearly stated the origins of the article and fully sourced by me. Saturday, August 04, 2012ALAN Preest will make a return to local government after being elected back onto Lydney Town Council.
Mr Preest, a former Conservative councillor who joined UKIP last year, won the by-election for the council’s Lydney North ward with 73.9 per cent of the vote this week.

He returns to the council from which he resigned in July last year.
Mr Preest said: “I’d like to thank the people of Lydney North for putting their trust in me and I look forward to re-joining the council, where I will continue where I left off, by leaving no stone unturned as I seek to ensure that the council works in the best interests of our community.”
Mr Preest is a former district and county councillor but has been embroiled in controversy before.
In 2008, he resigned from the Conservative Party after failing to clear his name for shoplifting.
He continued as an independent councillor but was then suspended from Forest of Dean District Council in 2009 for “totally unacceptable behaviour” at a public meeting in Lydney. He was reinstated but lost his seat by just seven votes in last year’s local elections.
More recently, he played a key role in digging up financial irregularities at Lydney Town Council which led to a rebuke for the authority from the Audit Commission.
Professor Tim Congdon CBE, from Huntley, UKIP Forest of Dean’s Parliamentary spokesman, said: “This is an excellent result, well deserving of the effort and hard work that has been put in by Alan and his team.
“UKIP Forest of Dean look forward to future local elections, and giving the people of the Forest area the chance to vote for a fresh political party, whose message is becoming increasingly popular, at a time that public faith in the mainstream parties continues to diminish.”
