Ukip’s Near Bankruptcy is All Too Understandable, when huge tranches of donor’s money goes to pay off past accrued debts and ‘indulgences’ & £Millions seemingly go missing in an atmosphere lacking in transparency and all too apparently corrupt!

Hi,
one of the most damaging problems Ukip has is its own dishonesty with comments like:
‘but our members know that without Ukip there would have been no referendum for Leave.EU to campaign in’
lies like this have cost them dearly, in terms of credibility, support and membership. It is of course a palpable distortion of facts as it was Ukip who actively campaigned against Nikki Sinclaire and supported the lies and false witness against her in a campaign of harassment supported and led by Nigel Farage, and he and Ukip senior members sought to undermine and destroy the petition which she led for an IN/OUT Referendum on membership of The EU.
Despite Ukip’s efforts and by ploughing some £60,000 of her own money into the campaign, Nikki Sinclaire and her team obtained over 220,000 signatures petitioning for a debate in Parliament – the debate which when it took place led to the largest defeat/rebellion David Cameron had experienced in The House of Commons – thus forcing him to promise an EU IN/OUT Referendum by the end of 2017.
Ukip did absolutely nothing to support the petition and thus absolutely nothing to bring about the referendum – therefore to lie so blatantly shows, together with the inept leadership that failed to understand the British First Past The Post voting system which led to a near total wipeout in the General Election and the internal wrangling and squabbling ever since.
The dishonesty of Ukip, its continued harassment of, and lies about, individuals like Nikki Sinclaire, Jasna Badzac, Dr. Richard North, Major Niall Warry rtd., Dr. Eric Edmonds, Dr. David Abbott, Richard Suchorzewski, myself and many more have not only been hugely damaging for Ukip but is likely to damage the Leave-The-EU campaign, if associated with it directly.
Ukip have created with Nigel Farage a dangerous cult in British politics and like most cults they have a minority following of blinkered and easily duped & gullible followers and the vast majority who will do all they can not to be associated with the organisation – especially with an organisation like Ukip with its palpable fear of foreigners and the inevitable hatred of muslims, as typified by their publication, their writings and their comments of the likes of Gerard Batten, one of their longest serving MEPs – comments made and published that are all too likely to incite misplaced racial hatred and intolerant prejudice.

Ukip is facing financial ruin following a slump in membership and the loss of key donors in the wake of the party’s disappointing General Election performance, The Mail on Sunday has learned.

Insiders say the situation has become so desperate that many staff wages went unpaid last month, and leader Nigel Farage has been forced to ring round backers begging for a financial lifeline.

It is understood that since the Election – when Ukip managed to win just one seat – the party membership has lost around one quarter of its 50,000 members, wiping £300,000 from annual revenues.

It comes as the party hopes to mount a strong challenge in the Oldham West and Royton by-election next month, which is being fought after the death of Labour’s Michael Meacher.

One party source blames ‘Nigel’s U-turn’ – when Mr Farage resigned as leader in the wake of his failure to win the Thanet South constituency only for him to change his mind shortly afterwards – for alienating supporters.

Ukip’s only seat came from Douglas Carswell, defending the Clacton constituency he won in a spectacular by-election victory.

Ukip received a total of £3 million from donors in the first four months of this year, but in the three months since the Election, the money coming in from donors and public funds is believed to have been less than £200,000.

The crisis has led to nearly half of the party’s workers at their Devon head office being made redundant, and wages and bills going unpaid.

A senior party figure, who played an influential role in the Election campaign, said that Mr Farage had also been horrified to be hit by unexpected bills – such as an invoice for nearly £80,000 from Facebook for the costs of social media campaigns, plus business rates and other costs relating to a Mayfair office.

Last month, some staff failed to receive their pay cheques at all, and were only given partial salaries after bridging finance was found. The figure said: ‘It is a total car crash, unpaid bills everywhere including the poor people who paid for coaches and transport to take people to Mr Farage’s personal campaign.’

Mr Banks became Ukip’s biggest donor last year when he handed Mr Farage £1 million. He now runs Leave.EU, one of two ‘Out’ campaigns in the EU referendum, which claims to have more than 200,000 supporters and millions of pounds in pledged backing. 

A Ukip spokesman said: ‘It was predicted that we could not pay our bills for the General Election in July, and that was not correct. The suggestion that we had a problem meeting payroll last month is also incorrect. It is certainly true that having a competitor like Leave.EU presents a challenge. As we are no longer the only game in town, we have to try harder to attract supporters, but our members know that without Ukip there would have been no referendum for Leave. EU to campaign in.’

Sixth Ukip councillor quits as chaos continues

THE Ukip meltdown gathered pace this week as Cliftonville West Councillor Emma Dawson quit to join the Conservatives.

She becomes the sixth member to leave the party and follows in the footsteps of Konnor Collins, Helen Smith, Ash Ashbee, Beverly Martin and Jeff Elenor, who joined the newly formed Democratic Independent Group (DIG).

In an exclusive statement Cllr Dawson explained her decision to leave had not been made in haste.

She said: “I am fully aware how difficult it can be for a new administration such as Ukip to take over and try to succeed while working and developing their role within the council.

“It has been very painful to watch Ukip decline so rapidly in such short months.”

She also cited the Manston airport CPO as a key reason for her defection. She explained: “The Manston pre-election pledge is a Ukip promise and I have not seen why there hasn’t been a decision to arrange a meeting that involves RiverOak and Thanet District Council, which extends to all members of the council and both sides’ legal representatives.

“Being open and transparent are values that the public demand and the Manston issue still places a huge question mark over the council.”

On joining the Conservatives, she added: “I have joined the Conservative Party as I feel unity, discipline and structure have enabled them to develop into a strong local group.”

She also stated her commitment to working across party in order to being a “stable, open and effective council”.

Leader of the opposition Cllr Bob Bayford welcomed the news. He said: “We extend a warm welcome and look forward to working with Councillor Dawson.”

Ukip now have 27 members, Conservatives 19; DIG 5, Labour 4 and 1 Independent. Ukip leader Cllr Wells confirmed he had received Cllr Dawson’s resignation.

Councillor Vince Munday Is expected to resign which will trigger a by election in Newington.

Hi,
I have today received further information regarding a published article of 29-Apr-2015. The material has been sent to me specifically for publication by Ian Gilman via a third party.
I have no reason to believe it is other than true though I have been unable to confirm it directly, though it does link with plausible correlation to the media reports of the time, regarding the removal of the candidate.
Further the comments regarding the destruction of evidence is entirely to be expected relative to the Ukip MEP Derek Clark who was a thoroughly dishonest man and had fraudulently spent a large sum of public money which he was ordered to repay – although he was put under police investigation no charges were brought which I believe it is entirely reasonable to believe was because of his age and mental state. Though Ashley Mote was prosecuted and sent to prison a second time although of similar age.
Derek Clark was a consistent liar and frequently tried to discredit both this blog and that of Junius with his dishonest and defamatory claims. You may recall the many times Derek Clark lied that he had not been forced to repay 10s of £1,000s he had fraudulently spent just as some will remember his boasts of just howmuch he had stolen from the EU, claims he boasted of openly at public meetings yet tried dishonestly to deny when I published the details!
I have little or no doubt that this evil and corrupt man would very likely have destroyed evidence of his criminality and am pleased to note that my opinion is corroborated.

I’m sharing this post on here with you all, so that you know why Irenea Marriott is standing as an independent candidate and not for ukip, it’s easier to broadcast this so you can read for yourself, how two very sneaky individuals have, in my belief, orchestrated this whole thing. ……I posted this to her recently in support.

I remember years ago in 2004 when you started working voluntary for UK Independence Party (UKIP), I didn’t trust politicians one bit as most people my age don’t, I had never voted, even though I was in my early 20’s because I thought all parties were corrupt, a bunch of smarmy, smiling assassins, making promises they do not intend to keep, in order to get what they want and where they want and then destroying your country, with stupid decisions the people did not ask for and never making good on those promises, that got them their power (rather not have a hand in getting that person to power, so better not to vote was my philosophy) I told you back then that they would use you up and spit you out when it suited them, but you told me and countless others that they were different, even got me to vote for the first time in my life and I voted UK Independence Party (UKIP) from that point, because I may not have trusted politicians but I trusted you and it was only on the weight of your words of support for them, as honest people that cared for this country, promising to give Britain back to the British and being independent from others that I have voted for them ever since. As an army wife at the time, I in turn encouraged many soldiers, forces families and friends over the years to vote Ukip up and down the country, many of whom you met.

Being from such a large family yourself you encouraged many of them also to vote for ukip, as well as your numerous friends and various high ranking connections. I often worried about you, when I would hear that even in ill health you were out on the streets in all weathers, leafleting and spreading the word for the party. I often told you off and asked you to at least take a break, but you were stoic and believed truly that you were making a difference for not only your children and grandchildren, but your beloved country and it’s people, that is what kept you going and pushing ever forward, especially at a time when ukip were unheard of, other than people thinking you were a bunch of, how was it put?

A bunch of closet racists? and the reaction you got from people was not always pleasant but aggressive and I feared for your safety regularly.

So imagine my surprise when after all your hard work I hear that you have been, in my opinion, constructively ousted from ukip and their explanation?

That conveniently around election time, that it had been brought to their attention that you were allegedly in cahoots with Britain first?

Because apparently to state that you agree that Lee Rigbys killers should get the death penalty, on a Britain First post is fraternizing with the enemy?

You and the rest of Britain probably agree with that statement made on that post.

Ukip realised they had made a mistake listening to over exaggerated claims by an anonymous source and immediately re instated your membership.

However you went on to find out, that in the last week before election papers were called that you were being denied to stand as a candidate for Ukip on the new RO’S, a Mr Paul Oakdens instruction, who had swiftly used your prior cancelled membership as a means to find another candidate on the last day when it would be, in my opinion, too late for you to contest this decision.

Even though he knew you were innocent.

So why would this RO make such a move, when you had (A) already been found innocent (B) had stood twice prior as MP with good results and (C) had also stood twice as Councillor, coming 2nd on both occasions.

Isn’t the point of choosing candidates, to choose the ones that would be most successful? Mighty suspicious to say the least.

I believe all these events came into play because members, including yourself, were and had already been questioning the constant rule breaking by Mr Oakden that seemed to fall on deaf ears, but came to light more when another member challenged the underhanded and corrupt manner at which the new chairman got his seat for Nottingham district branch over you, with the help of the same Mr Oakden and the questionable character and past of the said new chairman, that did not disclose, as is the rules, what other parties he in fact belonged to.

For all Ukips talk and the very definition of their name Ie being independent from the EU, Mr Oakden placed a foreign gentleman, who has only lived in the uk just under 2 years, has no loyalty or love for Nottingham or it’s people, into a place of power, which he did by breaking numerous rules.

A man that is now known to have been an active member of a far right political party whilst living in his home of Italy, a party akin to the BNP. By the rules this man should never have gotten that position sheerly on his past connection to that party, but he did, he was voted in by means of broken rules by Mr Oakden, which again should never have been allowed.

When the aforementioned member challenged the new chairman and Mr Oakdens conduct other members asked if these accusations were true, you merely told the truth when asked, yes they were.

Ukip or at least some people within it, do not want honest people working for them it seems and they have shown by their actions, to my mind, their true colours, that they are prepared to bend and twist the rules and go against everything they supposedly stand for, to get ahead.

I for one will not be voting for them again and I shall make sure that every single one of my many contacts hears about their treatment of loyal members, whose only crime was to tell the truth and try to protect the party from corrupt people.

Maybe Nigel Farage, who you’ve personally campaigned with, does not know the cloak and dagger act going on behind his back, but he seriously needs to take a look, because you are all under the umbrella name of Ukip, if people see corruption, they think you are all corrupt and there is no denying rules have been flouted and certain underhanded people are doing his party serious damage at voting time.

You have enough support and sway with people to be heard if you put the same effort into being heard as you have with getting that party acknowledgement, I suggest you show them how a true British Bulldog bites!

Don’t let a few bad apples take away something you have worked so hard for. Many others like myself will not understand and will question, as I did, why such a loyal member of all these many years, has suddenly decided to stand as an independent, once they hear how things have unfolded and you were left no choice, they will draw the same conclusions I have, because it is crystal clear to me that you have been railroaded and no one will vote for a party with such practices and if they thought for one minute, that their treatment of a lady held in such high regard, by so many people, could be kept quiet they were wrong.

UKIP Councillor condemned for racist comments

A UKIP Councillor’s actions have been condemned after he described Muslims in a racist manner on social media.

Councillor Philip Winter, 57, wrote to a friend on Facebook on Wednesday night saying: “The feeling most Service-minded folk have these days is one of betrayal of government regarding r*ghead problems.

“[They] are just waiting for the “balloon” to go up when they all start rioting and cutting our throats in our neighbourhoods.”

Cllr Winter recently joined Almondsbury Parish Council in South Gloucestershire and is one of their four UKIP members; he was also previously a Wings Officer for the city and county of Bristol RAF Association.

His racist comments have been described as severely unacceptable and offensive by those who saw it.

When asked to explain himself, Cllr Winter apparently suggested that many people shared his opinions which he believed had been taken out of context.

He also reportedly made it clear that he was not speaking on behalf of the council and that he did not intend for his ‘personal message’ to go public.

South Gloucestershire Council are apparently dealing with complaints regarding Cllr Winter.

A UKIP councillor has defended his comments after he described Muslims as ‘ragheads’ and said people were worried an influx of refugees would ‘start rioting and cut our throats in our neighbourhoods’.

Philip Winter, a UKIP councillor in Almondsbury, near Bristol, said he ‘really could not see’ how the words he used could be seen as offensive, and critics had ‘blown it out of proportion’.

The councillor made the comments in a post on the Facebook profile wall of leading Conservative councillor Jane Martin, who is a Tory cabinet member of Ashford borough council in Kent.

The UKIP councillor explained to his new Facebook friend that he was really a Tory at heart, before explaining his switch to UKIP came because of the ‘threat’ from Muslim immigrants.

Cllr Winter, who recently joined Almondsbury parish council in South Gloucestershire, made the comments in a post to a friend on Wednesday night.

He is one of four UKIP members on the council and was previously a Wings Officer for the city and county of Bristol RAF Association.

His comments were described as “unacceptable and highly offensive”.

One online respondent said: “How can such ill-judged behaviour give confidence in his judgment as an elected representative?”

Asked to explain his remarks, Mr Winter, who lives in Filton, claimed many people shared his opinions and they had been taken out of context.

He said: “What I said is nothing new, I think it’s a general concern from people and I didn’t send this speaking on behalf of the council.

“It was simply a personal message explaining my background to one person. I did not intend for this to be public.

“I was telling someone on a personal level about how I used to be a Tory. I don’t really see how this can be found offensive. It must be the terminology which is being blown out of proportion and is an expression.”

Ukip to lose political group status on Stoke-on-Trent City Council

UKIP is to lose its committee seats on Stoke-on-Trent City Council after one of its councillors left the party.

The eurosceptic party won its first two seats on the authority in May and went on to join a coalition with the City Independents and Conservatives.

But Ukip is now set to lose its ‘political group’ status following Richard Broughan’s decision to resign from the party.

This will mean Ukip will lose its seats on two scrutiny committees, which have been occupied by Mr Broughan. The seats will now be assigned to the City Independents instead.

A CITY councillor has been criticised for an ‘offensive’ social media post about migrants who died while trying to reach western Europe.

Abbey Hulton and Townsend councillor Richard Broughan, pictured, deactivated his Twitter account after making a ‘joke’ about migrants who died travelling from Hungary in a lorry last month.

But Mr Broughan has denied the message, which asked ‘#IsItOk to ask migrants to ‘chill out’ following the Austrian refrigerated lorry incident?’ was racially motivated.

The Ukip councillor insists he was joining in with a debate on TV programme The Last Leg – and the reaction to it is nothing to do with his withdrawal from Twitter.

SUSPENDED Ukip councillor Richard Broughan has resigned from the party following a row over an ‘offensive’ tweet.

The Abbey Hulton and Townsend councillor had been criticised for telling a ‘joke’ on Twitter about 71 migrants dying in a lorry.

Ukip officials say this followed earlier incidents of ‘unacceptable behaviour’ within the local party branch.

He has now left the Eurosceptic party and is currently sitting as a non-aligned member on Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

There are not many professions where lack of expertise can be called a quality. If you need your accounts done, you go to a career accountant. Anyone who needs an appendix removed would steer away from the “insurgent” surgeon who takes pride in never playing by the rules of the “medical bubble”. Politics is unusual in sustaining a myth of the heroic amateur.

Wariness of slick operators and ambitious apparatchiks is a healthy instinct. There are people who don’t share Jeremy Corbyn’s beliefs yet still applauded his rise as a rebuke to New Labour’s lapse into calculated vapidity. But a slap landed on the face of conventional politics is not proof that conventional wisdom is all bunk. David Cameron is prime minister because he played the game by the rules and won. His elite pedigree and elastic principles were obstacles to affection, but not to victory.

The Corbynite left might rebut that view by citing Ed Miliband’s handicap as an Oxbridge-educated spadocrat – a defective imitation of the thing he sought to supplant, practically inviting voters to stick with the genuine article. But Miliband was not the only threat that Cameron saw off in May. He also trounced Nigel Farage: the self-described antidote to cosy consensus, burster-in-chief of Westminster bubbles.

Labour’s post-election implosion has overshadowed Farage’s humiliation in May, so let’s recap. In 2014, Ukip topped the poll in European parliamentary elections. Tory conference that autumn was disrupted by two defections and rumours of more. Re-badged “Kipper” candidates won both of the subsequent byelections.

Then it went wrong. Farage scoured the land for a friendly constituency; an open door to parliament. He chose Thanet South, but southern Thanetters closed the door in his face as did voters in every other seat bar one. Farage tendered his resignation to the supreme party authority – himself – and rejected it. A row blew up between the loyalists to the original cult of saloon bar bravado, and the advocates of professionalisation who understood that bibulous swagger and nudge-nudge tolerance of bigotry had scooped up as many voters as they ever would, while alienating many more.

The modernisers feared that Farage was a liability in pursuit of the party’s founding dream – rupture from the EU. The loyalists won but the schism persists, reflected in confusion over Farage’s role in the anti-EU referendum campaign. He initially endorsed the claim of one group (Leave.EU, which is funded by Ukip donor Aaron Banks) to be the lead voice urging exit. Now he proclaims equal support for the rival Vote Leave group, under whose banner Eurosceptic Tories are mustering, along with business leaders, a few Labour MPs and Douglas Carswell – Ukip’s lone representative in the Commons. Farage looks like a gatecrasher at the ball he once dreamt would be held in his honour.

Ukip’s marginalisation is partly a function of the electoral system. It is unfair that 4.5m votes should yield a solitary seat, even if liberals are glad of it. But Farage was not unaware of the way MPs are chosen. Ukip targeted seats on the basis of their vulnerability under first-past-the-post, and was still beaten. It happened because voters respond differently to a mid-term election (where incumbent governments invite punishment for being the government), and general elections(where the dominant question is whether someone else should be trusted with power.)

Farage failed because enough people recognised that the limit of his capabilities was channelling anger, not crafting solutions. He could run a piss-up in the brewery of opposition, but that is a different skill to making potable beer. Farage didn’t merely fail to land a killer blow on Cameron, he did the prime minister a favour (and not just by taking votes from Labour). He marked out a boundary of civilised conservative politics and stood on the wrong side. He indulged cranks, obsessives and racists, many of whom would otherwise have been contaminating the Tory ticket.

In the lexicon of anti-establishment populism there is no greater insult than to label someone a “career politician”, since that implies the unprincipled pursuit of power for its own sake. But politics is a full-time job for which seeking power is part of the deal. Rewarding a semblance of professionalism is a reasonable, indeed often a principled basis on which to vote. Farage is a career politician whose career has been stunted by amateurism. Corbyn is a career MP whose chosen specialism is resistance to whatever the government of the day, Labour or Conservative, is doing. His motives may be pure. Voters can scale the heights of respect for that high-mindedness, without ever seeing it as a qualification to govern.

By contrast, Cameron and Osborne struggled throughout the last parliament to convince people that their hearts were in the right place, but their most vulnerable moment came in 2012 when the “omnishambles” budget unravelled and the economy was doing the opposite of what had been promised. Miliband let them off the hook by insisting that the Tories’ greatest offence was an excess of ideology (or “principle” as it is called when the left describes itself) as opposed to rank incompetence.

The centre of British politics is often imagined to be a location on an ideological spectrum between state-heavy socialism and unregulated market capitalism. But it is better understood as a zone of cultural respectability, occupied by the party that persuades enough people of unfixed allegiance that it knows what it is doing, thus making it safe to care less about politics. A weak opposition demands that people care more, and tries to rouse them by shouting. When that doesn’t work, public acquiescence to the status quo is treated with contempt – the electorate as dumb turkeys, brainwashed by the media into voting for Christmas.

There is a more generous view of the way democracy works. It is that people may not like their leaders, having been angered by mean-spiritedness and mismanagement of public assets (and the Tories supply ample amounts of both); but when polling day comes an intuitive judgment is made of whether the other side is adequately acquainted with the difference between its arse and its elbow. Amateurs can score endless points in opposition. When it comes to choosing a government, voters have a persistent habit of turning to the professionals.

The UK Independence Party (UKIP) has lost its majority on Thanet Council, the first and only local authority to be controlled by the party and the region where leader Nigel Farage made his unsuccessful bid for MP in the general election.

Councilor Jeff Elenor quit UKIP on Tuesday to join four other defectors in a newly-formed party, the Democratic Independent Group.

The five UKIP councilors left the party over the direction council leader Chris Well had taken on the mothballed Manston Airport. UKIP made much of its pledge to reopen the airport during its May election campaign.

Former Green Councilor Ian Driver told RT that disagreements over Manston Airport could spell the end of UKIP’s control of Thanet Council.

The local split mirrors ongoing rows within UKIP’s national ranks, where Nigel Farage has clashed with the party’s only MP Douglas Carswell over which campaign to back for Britain to leave the EU.

Elenor, who joined UKIP in 2008, said he was concerned by the council’s inaction on the compulsory purchase of the airport.

“I was concerned by the lack of action with the [compulsory purchase order], but it was not an easy decision to make. I have been with the party for a long time but the issue of the airport became so important,” he said.

“It was important to behave honorably to the people who elected me.”

The councilor cited local Conservative MP Richard Gale’s intervention as a contributing factor in his decision to leave UKIP.

In an open letter sent to the council leader Chris Wells on Monday, Gale slammed the council’s delays regarding the airport.

“Your council was elected on a promise that I for one have to believe that you, personally, have no intention of honoring although other members and past members of your party wish to do so,” he wrote.

“My support for your leadership in respect of Manston Airport is therefore formally withdrawn.”

US firm RiverOak is seeking to partner with Thanet Council to buy and run the airport, but is waiting for the local authority to issue a compulsory purchase order [CPO] on the site’s current owners.

Former Thanet District Councilor Ian Driver told RT that UKIP councilors are disillusioned by the party’s approach to Manston Airport.

“Just like Labour and the Tories, [UKIP] were making misleading promises and now that they’ve taken power and seem unable or unwilling to do anything about Manston. A lot of the people who joined the party because of Manston and stood as councilors are now becoming very, very disillusioned and disappointed in UKIP.”

Driver predicts the ongoing division within UKIP will soon put the council back in Tory hands.

“I would think in the next few weeks, what remains of UKIP will probably announce that it’s breaking off negotiations with RiverOak, and that may see even more members quitting the party and becoming independents, or even joining the Conservatives.

“So you could well see the Conservatives back in control at Thanet Council fairly soon … I definitely think the Conservatives will be back.”

A former police inspector who stood to be South Yorkshire’s crime commissioner is to stand trial on a charge of assault.Jack Clarkson, who became one of Sheffield’s first UKIP councillors and then the local party’s leader in May 2014, ‘suspended himself’ from office as a Sheffield Council Stocksbridge and Upper Don councillor in August.

Jack ClarksonAt the time the suspension was confirmed by the city council but it did not comment on the reasons and a spokesman for Sheffield UKIP said he had taken a ‘step back for the moment’ as he was ‘going through some personal problems’.

South Yorkshire Police have now confirmed to The Star that the former candidate for the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner post is to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court over the alleged offence later this year.

Mr Clarkson previously worked for South Yorkshire Police in Sheffield, Rotherham, Ecclesfield, Deepcar, Hillsborough and Doncaster for more than 30 years. He retired as an inspector at Deepcar in 2006.

He is currently the Mayor of Stocksbridge and a councillor for East Ward, Deepcar, on the town’s council.

In October 2014, he stood against eventual winner Labour’s Rev Dr Alan Billings for the role of crime commissioner in a by-election triggered by the resignation of Shaun Wright after the Rotherham grooming scandal broke.

Mr Clarkson came second in the £1.6 million by-election, with just under 32 per cent of the vote, and was supported by UKIP leader Nigel Farage during his campaign.

In election pledges he promised to restore public confidence in the crisis-hit force.

Mr Clarkson said on Twitter during his campaign: “I want to re-establish public trust and confidence. We need strong leadership and a new culture where crime is investigated.”

He also said: “I want to build a South Yorkshire Police force that is proud to put on the uniform and serve the public, the same way I did for 30 years.”

Mr Clarkson, who was also a member of various Sheffield Council committees before his suspension, could not be reached for comment.
