A former Tory MP and UKIP politician has been found guilty of election fraud.
Bob Spink, 69, former MP for Castle Point, Essex, committed the offences during the Castle Point borough council elections in May last year.
A jury at Southwark Crown Court found him guilty of four counts of permitting a false signature to be included on a nomination form for a UKIP councillor.
UKIP agent James Parkin, 38, of Canvey Island, was also convicted.
He was found guilty on two counts of the same charge.

Judge Ian Graham said: “These types of offences are taken very seriously.”
Jurors heard Spink tricked “elderly and infirm” voters into signing the forms in April 2016, without making it clear what the documents were or which party he represented.
The court heard people in Spink’s constituency signed forms believing they were petitions, and having no idea they were supporting the UKIP candidate in the Castle Point council elections.
Spink claimed everything was above board; that residents knew what they were signing; and that he only introduced the topic of the local elections once he had gained their support for his campaign to become a police and crime commissioner (PCC).

The pair were found guilty by majority verdicts. They will be sentenced in the new year. Both men were released on bail.
Mr Spink, from Benfleet, Essex, was Conservative MP for Castle Point from 1992 to 1997, and again from 2001.
In 2008, he defected from the Conservative Party and joined UKIP, effectively becoming its first MP.

interestingly this trial of the failed Ukip MP Bob Spink and his Ukip agent James Parkin seems somewhat arbitarily to have been moved from its planned venue, which as I recall was Basildon, and is now being held out of area at Southwark Crown Court! There seems to have been no reasons given why this fraud case where Bob Spink and his agent are accused of fraud thus corrupting an election – such reasons might have been as it involved National Security or was to be held in full or in part in camera – neither seem likely, we are thus left wondering what strings have been pulled and both how and why!
The article below fails to point out that when standing for election as PCC he was standing on a Ukip ticket!
Ukip’s former MP Bob Spink on trial accused of lying and forging signatures
A FORMER Dorset county councillor who became Ukip’s first MP is on trial accused of lying to voters and forging signatures.
Bob Spink, 69, allegedly took a “casual and misleading approach” while canvassing and collecting signatures to nominate Ukip candidates ahead of last May’s local elections.
Voters reported seeing “a very large man”, Ukip election agent James Parkin, 38, accompanying Spink collecting signatures, Southwark Crown Court heard.
Dr Spink, who served on Dorset County Council for eight years and was deputy chairman of Poole Conservatives, left Dorset after becoming Conservative MP for Castle Point in Essex. He became Ukip’s first MP in April 2008 after resigning from the Tories, later becoming an independent and losing his seat in 2010.
He lost out in the Essex police and crime commissioner (PCC) elections last year, while his co-defendant Parkin was beaten as a council candidate.
Tom Nicholson, prosecuting, said: “A part of this trial will look at the canvassing methods employed by Dr Spink on the doorstep.”
He added: “Did he use what we would say a casual and misleading approach on the doorstep to obtain signatures?”
None of the Ukip candidates were elected and there is no suggestion that there was anything improper with the 100 signatures obtained by Spink to stand in the PCC election.
Spink denies five counts of submitting false signatures on nomination papers, while Parkin denies six like charges.
The accusations relate to the local election for Castle Point Borough Council in 2016.
Prosecutor Tom Nicholson said: “In short, it is alleged that Dr Spink and Mr Parkin were involved in submitting a number of nomination forms, bearing signatures that had been obtained falsely.”
Jurors heard that prospective council candidates had to secure 10 signatures from local electors, while police and crime commissioner candidates required 100.
Voter Robert Duke discovered his name had been added to a nomination form to his “complete surprise”, the court heard.
“In fact, this signature was a forgery,” said Mr Nicholson.
A complaint was made to police and enquiries revealed Parkin was involved in the form’s completion, the court heard.
Officers then made calls to 128 signatories relating to the other 13 council wards with Ukip candidates. The appeal garnered 96 responses alleging two further forgeries and 26 others claiming they had been misled as to the nature of the document they were signing.

you may well recall Bob Spink was Ukip’s First MP having defected from the Tories in 2008 – he retained his Castle Point seat as a turncoat until the subsequent election, where having tried to hedge his bets by announcing, rather feebly, that although he had defected to Ukip he never paid his membership, which was denied by Farage at the time but having two such untrustworthy characters accusing eachother of telling lies just made them both look foolish.
Either way Bob Spink lost his seat in the 2010 election!
Bob Spink also had a period as Chairman of the little known and insignificant CIB (Campaign for an Independent Britain), an organisation that seems to consider building a bank account and over paying a few staff is its main aim rather than investing its money in campaigning for an independent Britain!
In his efforts to find a job VBob Spink, who is almost 70, also stood under the Ukip banner as their Police and Crime Commissioner in Essex, something of a non job which he unsurprisingly failed to get.
Bob Spink has his own problems with the Police at the moment as he faces charges for electoral Crime in Crown Court today 05-Jun-2017:
Former Ukip MP Dr Bob Spink and party campaigner James Parkin appear in court to face electoral fraud allegations
A FORMER Ukip MP and a party campaigner have appeared in court charged with electoral fraud at last May’s council elections.
Dr Bob Spink, who served as MP for Castle Point for almost nine years until 2010, and James Parkin, 38, are charged with a total of 14 offences.
The pair appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court this morning to deny the allegations, which relate to nomination papers for candidates at last year’s vote in the Castle Point borough.
Dr Spink, 68, of Downer Road, Benfleet, faces five allegations that on or before April 5 he obtained the genuine signature of an elector for the purposes of nominating a candidate, despite the elector not knowing it was for that purpose.
Parkin, of Castle View Road, Canvey, faces the same five allegations in addition to four charges of supplying a false signature on nomination papers.
Dr Spink, wearing a black suit and blue and burgundy tie, shook his head as the charges were read out.
Both men indicated through their lawyer they deny the accusations and want the case to be heard by a crown court jury.
Both men were released on bail until the June 5 hearing.
Dr Spink was the Tory MP for Castle Point between 1992 and 1997, and won the seat again at the 2001 election.
He defected to Ukip in 2008, becoming the party’s first MP, but left later that year. He lost his seat in 2010 to Tory Rebecca Harris but later rejoined Ukip.
The Yorkshire-born politician also recently unsuccessfully stood for Ukip to become Essex Police and Crime Commissioner, losing out to Tory candidate Roger Hirst.
Parkin served as Ukip’s election agent and also stood in Castle Point’s Cedar Hall ward in May’s vote but was defeated by Tory candidate Liz Wass.
Dr. Bob Spink & James Parkin
His wife, Lucy Parkin, stood in the Winter Gardens ward but lost out on a seat to Allan Taylor, from the Canvey Independent Party.
Interestingly in something of a reveral of Bob Spink’s move from Tory to a daliance with Ukip a past aspirant leader of Ukip, Craig McKinley, who joined the Tories when he was defeated for the leadership by Nigel Farage and then went on to stand against Nigel Farage for the Thanet seat as an MP, which he won, seemingly under something of a cloud is also facing the Courts for Electoral Fraud!
The belated charges brought against McKinley, just before the General Election, have all the justification for complaint against the CPS & Electoral Commission as were leveled against the FBI by supporters of Hillary Clinton, but despite the allegations of investigation of Nigel Farage for too close an association with Russia and its agents – I would doubt that Russia has as much interest in the well being of McKinley as they would seem to have had manipulating the American Presidential elections in which Farage & his chum and sponsor Aaron Banks became embroilled!

A UKIP member who once ran to be Essex’s Police and Crime Commissioner has been charged after allegations of electoral fraud.
The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Essex Police to charge two men relating to the local election for Castle Point Borough Council last year.
Former Castle Point MP and UKIP PCC candidate Bob Spink, 68, has been charged with five counts of submitting false signatures on nomination papers on or before April 5, 2016, while James Parkin, 38, has been charged with nine counts of submitting false signatures on nomination papers around the same time.
Four of the charges Parkin faces are specifically related to false signatures while the remaining five relate to instances of obtaining genuine signatures by misleading electors about what they were signing for.
The charges relate to nomination papers for prospective UKIP council candidates.
The pair will appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on April 25.
