Mrs Jones said she does not “feel welcome in the assembly group” and has not been “treated equally or as favourably” as Mr Bennett or Neil Hamilton, the first UKIP group leader.
She alleged a leadership election was called to get her out of the job, and questioned whether the way it was held adhered to the party’s constitution.
Image caption Gerard Batten has taken the party in “a direction I’m not comfortable with”, Caroline Jones said
Mrs Jones told BBC Wales Mr Batten – who has been highly critical of Islam – was changing the party “to a more far-right position, which a lot of the long-standing members are finding quite unfavourable, including myself”.
“I never joined the party to be part of a far-right organisation – I joined the party because I wanted to come out of the European Union,” she said.
“Gerard Batten should listen to all sides and try to mediate and bring people together, as opposed to alienating them.
“He’s brought a lot of views into UKIP which people, the more moderate members, of the party have asked him to tone down.”
She alleged she had been subject of “misogyny”, claiming examples of a meeting where she was allegedly told to “shut up”, one where she had a pair of glasses thrown at her, and another where she was told to stop taking minutes.
Mrs Jones said: “I never liked the way that certain members in the assembly conducted themselves in their attitude towards female members.”
Media captionGareth Bennett said it would be easier for the UKIP group to operate without Caroline Jones
The MEP said: “I have brought the party back from financial meltdown, raised funds, raised membership numbers, and raised UKIP in the polls. Ms Jones has contributed nothing that I am aware of.”
He added: “Her statement is politically correct twaddle to disguise the fact that Mrs Jones is politically ineffective. I wish her well languishing in the outer realms of irrelevance.”
UKIP assembly group leader Gareth Bennett said he was “not totally surprised” by Mrs Jones’s exit and suggested people in the party who do not agree with its direction should “get off the train and then make it easier for the group to operate”.
He said UKIP was not moving to the far right but said not everyone in the party agreed with Mr Batten’s direction.
Mr Bennett denied the misogyny accusations – he confirmed that Caroline Jones had been told to “shut up” at a group meeting but said it was not related to her gender.
“There was poor behaviour from probably two or three people in that room at that meeting,” he said.
“I’m supremely confident that the group will eventually cohere.”
Image copyrightGetty ImagesImage caption Neil Hamilton was ousted as UKIP assembly group leader by Caroline Jones in May
Neil Hamilton has called on Mrs Jones to resign her regional list seat and allow another UKIP member to become an AM, but she told BBC Radio Wales that she would not stand down.
Under the regional list system used to elect 20 of the 60 assembly members, voters choose a party rather than a specific candidate.
When a regional AM resigns, they are usually succeeded by the person who was next on the list for their party at the previous assembly election in that region.
I hear rumours from a usually well informed insider that Michelle Brown, currently Ukip AM for North Wales is likely to quit representing them shortly and represent her own views as an Independent.
Although Gareth Bennett is expected to run for leadership of the National Party at the next Ukip Leadership election, but he may find a snag in his plan as it is likely that the hapless Gerard Batten may well step down and not seek re-election after the crass ineptitude of his period standing in as leader nationally.
If Batten does cut and run it is expected he will back Mike Hookem for the leadership, well the field is staggeringly poor as anyone who has followed Ukip will appreciate – it is clear there is not a single individual with the relevant experience or visible qualities needed.

The Bristol group claim the party would move “dangerously more far right” if the anti-Islam campaigner joins and could open the door to “extremists”.
Mr Robinson founded the far-right English Defence League (EDL) party in 2009 and has spoken at many anti-Islam events. He has denied holding racist or anti-semitic views.
The 35-year-old – who was released from prison last month after serving time for contempt of court – has indicated he would like to join UKIP, but party rules state former EDL and British National Party members cannot be accepted.
Speaking to the party’s National Executive Committee on Sunday (September, 9), Mr Robinson said the “British working class will be electrified” if he is allowed to join UKIP.
Tommy Robinson (Image: PA)
The decision on whether to accept Mr Robinson’s application will be made at the upcoming UKIP conference in Birmingham at the end of the month.
However, the Bristol branch say it is against welcoming the activist in to the party.
“Over the past few years UKIP has stringently sought to remove those whose views were felt to be incongruous with the political aims and objectives of UKIP in terms of Britain’s association with Europe,” a UKIP Bristol spokesperson said.
“While we fully appreciate and respect the strengths of Tommy Robinson in his role as a campaigner, this should in no way be interpreted as an endorsement of his stance on anti-Islamification, which, in respect of UKIP Bristol members is regarded as Mr Robinson weaponising against the majority of Muslims and therefore wholly disproportionate and misleading.
Tommy Robinson (Image: Birmingham Post and Mail)
“Further to this our view is that should Mr Robinson be allowed to join UKIP, his membership will be seen as an open door for extremists who were previously members to rejoin, and other supporters of Mr Robinson who share his beliefs to follow.”
While it is thought unlikely that party members will vote to allow Mr Robinson membership at the annual conference, the Bristol branch says it will disband if he is permitted to enter.
However, Mr Robinson appears to have the support from UKIP’s leader, Gerard Batten, who has likened him to Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
The Bristol branch say Mr Batten’s views have called his leadership in to question.
“We now consider Gerard Batten’s continued leadership of the party as wholly questionable in respect of him supporting Mr Robinson, as much as the strong possibility of the party leaning dangerously more far right than we are comfortable with should Mr Robinson’s membership of the party be endorsed,” the Bristol spokesperson said.
“To further underline Bristol UKIP’s absolute and total position on this matter, should Mr Robinson’s membership of the party be accepted then we will resign from UKIP with immediate effect and the branch will be disbanded.”

do not forget this tragic crime was NOT of a political nature and may well have occured in any party, especially with a low grade individual like a Councillor – especially one who had lost his or her seat!

A FORMER Royal Marine who had an affair with his son’s partner faces life in jail for strangling his suspicious Scots wife.
Stephen Searle, 64, had a fling with Anastasia Pomiateeva, 39, after pestering her for sex.
Anne discovered explicit texts and photos on her husband’s phone
Outside court yesterday, Searle’s youngest son Stephen, 29, said: “As you are all well aware, today there has been justice for my mum.
“This year not only have I lost my mum but my dad as well. The part that hurts me the most is the person who took my mum away was also my best friend, my dad.”
He earlier said in an impact statement: “The relationship between me and my brothers has been torn apart.
“It has left a void in my heart which is something I will never get over.
‘I’ve just killed my wife’: Chilling 999 call from killer commando Stephen Searle after strangling his wife
SUFFOLK Police today released a chilling audio clip of the moment Searle called police to tell them he had murdered his wife, Anne:
Call handler: “Hello, can you hear me?
Searle: “Yeah, I can hear you, can you hear me?”
CH: “Yep.”
S: “I’ve er… just killed my wife”
CH:”You’ve just killed your wife.”
S: “Yeah.”
CH: “Okay.”
S: “Bit different for you tonight I expect…Happy New Year.”
CH: “…and how have you killed her?”
S: “Erm… suffocation really, I guess. Bit of a bizarre situation but you know… nevermind.
CH: “Okay, is it just the two of you in the house?”
S: “Er… well just the one of us now.”
CH: “Right, okay.”
S: “Well two… if you like.”
CH: “Okay, is there any other sort of issues that the officers need to be aware of when they come into the house? Is there anything dangerous?”
S: “Erm, not really. I’m not violent, I’m not nothing.”
CH: “Stephen, can I just get you to go and answer the door? I believe we should have some officers there. Are you able to just go and speak to them?”
S: “Okay, they’re here now, are they?”
CH: “They should be there.”
S: “Alright, I’m on me way.”
CH: “Okay.”
S: “I’m on me way as we speak…ah, hello buddies! How are you, alright?”
Supplied as a technical service. No is implied or inferred.
Searle, 64, lost his seat in Suffolk County Council last year
“Losing my mum has destroyed me. It has left me completely broken.
“If my dad had just admitted what he had done and been honest, it would not have had to go to court.”
Mr Justice Green remanded Searle in custody until today.
Outside the court Det Chief Supt Eamonn Bridger, of Suffolk Police, said: “Anne Searle’s death was a tragic crime and our sympathies remain with her family and friends.”

Unless Brexit is back on track by March 2019, I will seriously consider putting my name forward to return as @UKIP leader. The will of 17.4m voters must be carried out.
It seems all too clear that these 2 comments I have just made on Twitter were both apposite & accurate regarding his self publicity above, in which he clearly gives no undertaking & would still be in a position of needing to be elected – this time with rather less of the liars, cheats & scoundrels in place to fiddle the results in an internal election, which he has relied on in the past, in the greatly diminished party he virtually destroyed:
I presume #Farage, inorder to stand again, he’s undertaken to refund the money he seems to have embezelled & prersumably this time he will be funding his own crew of mistresses with mental health issues he gets away with exploiting. Will he also compensate #Justin_Adams‘ family?
It does seem abundantly clear from the comments: People are all too aware of the damage done to the #Petition#Referendum & #BreXit by #Farage#Banks & their sponsors. They are about as popular as a pork chop in a Mosque & NEARLY lost us the BreXit vote with their corrupt antics!

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team are investigating a pro-Brexit businessman and his associate who have ties to Russian diplomats and Trump campaign operatives.
The Washington Postis reporting that Nigel Farage, a leader of the UK Independence Party and a prominent figure in the Brexit debate, is being investigated for his ties to Trump associates and Russian colluders.
Farage’s associate, Arron Banks, donated millions of dollars to a campaign for Britain to leave the European Union.
Banks has since provided dozens of emails and text messages from 2016 showing a connection between Farage and Russian ambassador to London, Alexander Yakovenko.
The Post reveals that Banks, Farage, and a handful of other Brexiteers have been attempting to work more closely with Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
If Mueller and his team expose Farage, Banks, and others involved in Brexit, it could shine further light on the global implications of Russia meddling in elections and important social issues around the world.
There is already mounting evidence that Banks and his associates have worked to infiltrate American politics. Following the Brexit vote, Banks met with Yakovenko before heading to a fundraiser in Mississippi, an event he was invited to by former Trump Campaign Executive Steve Bannon.
The Independent reports that during the Mississippi fundraiser, both Farage and Banks had the opportunity to “huddle privately” with Republican nominee Trump.
“As both relationships [Trump and Yevenko] deepened, Mr. Banks and his associates discussed Mr. Trump’s bid and the US presidential campaign with Mr. Yakovenko. At least two of the meetings between Mr. Banks and the ambassador came shortly before or after meetings with Mr. Trump,” the Independent adds.
So far, Banks and Farage claim Robert Mueller’s team have not reached out. Trump lawyer, Rudy Giuliani also says he has also not been notified of any involvement from Yakovenko.
NBC News reports that investigators in the UK are now starting to show an interest between Brexit campaigners and the Trump campaign.
In the meantime, Banks has adopted Donald Trump’s “witch hunt” mantra, claiming that he wasn’t a back-channel infiltrator between the United States and Russia. Instead, Banks says he was only engaged in “routine business and diplomatic exchanges.”
Former Trump communications official Michael Caputo has admitted to being asked about Farage during an interview with Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel in early 2018.
In the meantime, Nigel Farage continues to huddle closely with Donald Trump. The photo shared at the top of this story was taken as Farage spoke at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Maryland.

Mandy Jones suspended from UKIP following criticism of Wales’ party leader Neil Hamilton
Mandy Jones has been suspended for comments she made about UKIP’s party leader in Wales, Neil Hamilton.
The North Wales assembly member is member of the UKIP party but sits as an independent in the Assembly.
Last week, she objected to Mr Hamilton being appointed to the Assembly Commission which is responsible for AMs’ staff because he had not supported a policy on dignity and respect in the Assembly.
There are many reasons why I would object to Neil Hamilton becoming a Commissioner. However, the reason I wish to put on record is that, on 16 May, Neil Hamilton abstained on the vote in support of the emerging dignity and respect policy. The main crux of his argument appeared to be that it should only apply part of the time. Becoming an Assembly Member is an honour, and it should be respected as such. It is not a part-time job. The Nolan principles and the code of conduct, which we all promised to abide by when we were sworn in, do not get shrugged off like a wet coat when they become too uncomfortable. I do not see how his position is compatible with the role of Assembly Commissioner.
– Mandy Jones AM
Credit: PA Images
In response to the objection, Neil Hamilton defended his actions.
We disagree honourably amongst each other in a democratic Assembly, and we’re entitled to take different views on the desirability of proposed courses of action. That doesn’t mean that any of us condones the kind of conduct, behaviour or words that are reprehensible or opprobrious and are likely to cause egregious offence, and still less those that are racist or whatever.
– Neil Hamilton AM, Leader of UKIP in Wales
The Party Secretary has the right to suspend or expel members who clearly bring the Party into disrepute by association with or membership of an organisation, membership of which the NEC has declared to be incompatible with membership of the Party or establish a group in opposition to an official UKIP group.
– UKIP Party Secretary
In an unprecedented move, assembly members then voted to reject Neil Hamilton as UKIP’s nomination to the Assembly Commission.
The party’s AMs will now have to decide whether to try again or put forward a different name.
5/6 He insists he didn’t instigate the disciplinary process against @MandyJonesAM but he backs it. It’s irrelevant that she’s not a group member. UKIP constitution says members shouldn’t campaign against UKIP nominees for a position
2/6 The national ballot for Assembly group leader will ‘put an end to this kind of squabbling.’ There wasn’t one when he took the rôle because they were newly elected & were in the middle of the EU referendum. It would have better if they had held one.
1/6 I’ve just interviewed @NeilUKIP about the Assembly leadership debacle and @MandyJonesAM suspension. It’ll be online shortly but here are some of the most interesting lines:
Hearing there was a tense UKIP group meeting tonight. I’m led to believe UKIP’s deputy leader Mike Hookem told AMs the’ll be a ballot of Welsh members to decide leader of the Assembly group. This after Caroline Jones ousted Neil Hamilton for the job last month.
UKIP has suspended @MandyJonesAM – who sits in the Assembly as an independent – as a party member and triggered a disciplinary investigation following criticism that she made of former group leader (and current UKIP Wales leader) Neil Hamilton.
A spokesperson for @MandyJonesAM says she ‘stands by what she said in the Chamber last week and has no regrets. The majority agreed with her. UKIP has lost nothing – they simply need to field an appropriate candidate for the role.’
It is for these reasons that the chairman has taken the decision to suspend you using his emergency powers granted to him under constitutional provision 11.9 – 11.11.
In his letter UKIP’s party secretary refers to criticism by @MandyJonesAM of Neil Hamilton during a debate on a possible role for him as an Assembly commissioner.
UKIP has suspended @MandyJonesAM and triggered a disciplinary hearing for comments she made about @NeilUKIP in the Senedd last week. She’s not a member of the UKIP Assembly group.

you may recall numerous of us who had been involved in opposition to Britain’s membership of the Franco German EU scam consistently were outspoken against Leave.EU, Arron Banks Ukip or Farage having any leading role in the campaign to Leave_the_EU.
We consistently spoke out that Banks, Farage & Ukip would in the long run do more harm than good to the campaign and clearly could not be trusted – time and again Nigel Farage had lied, cheated, bullied and swindled for his own gain, his sociopath personna was clear to see.
Banks’ only real claim to fame seemed to be that he laid claim to wealth and achievements and even that seemed to be leveraged! Leveraged largely on his own claims which exploited the gullible and the greedy.
It was clear from particularly Farage’s self serving antics and lies that their entire campaign was little to do with BreXit and that BreXit was nothing more than a vehicle for their egos, greep and self adulation and in Farage’s case his obsession with self gratification with numerous wives and mistresses he determined should be funded by the tax payers via the EU.
You will have noted Nigel Farage did absolutely nothing to oppose the imposition of a New EU Constitution on these United Kingdoms and stood by in aquescence as The EEC arbitrarily changed its name, further revealing its true intent, to The EU.
Many will have noted he opposed any individual in Ukip seeking actively to oppose the EU in a manner which might damage his income stream – even latching onto Declan Ganley in efforts to raise his income!
The one clear action to bring about democratisation of Britain’s position by legitimate and effective means Nigel Farage did all he could to oppose – he outright condemned Nikki Sinclaire’s efforts to Petition Parliament to hold a full House of Commons debate on an IN/OUT Referendum.
Farage went so far as not only engineer Sinclaire out of her position as a Ukip MEP and at the time one of Uki8p’s largest donors, he even colluded in the criminal activities of John Ison to collude with seemingly corrupt Police and a seemingly equally corrupt CPS to abuse the legal system to ‘frame’ Sinclaire & destroy her efforts to oppose Britain’s continued membership of the EU.
Fortunately it became clear Sinclaire had greater perspicacity and determination and she recruited a team which with her financial support obtained 225,000 validated signatures to her petition which when it was delivered the Government was legally bound to debate.
In an effort to stem the revolt in his PartyDavid Cameron, after his first major defeat/rebellion in Government, inflicted as a result of Nikki Sinclaire’s Petition and the resultant debate – He found himself in the position where he had to promise an Unconditional IN/OUT Referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU in the Tory manifesto.
The situation was now irrevocably heading for a vote by the British electorate a vote which was won in the largest vote in British history, won by 52% of the vote for BreXit and 48% for Remain.
Clearly the bumps in the road will be many and we are faced with challenges in reversing 50+ years of political and economic folly but the establishment of democracy and liberty for any Country is inevitably a bumpy road with numerous setbacks.
Despite the sacrifice of millions of lives in Britain’s past to establish one of the best and fairest, tollerant and just democracies oever on this planet I would contend one of the greatest setbacks was in believing the lies and distortions of Edward Heath’s era in his deliberate lies to dupe the British electorate into believing that membership of the EU, then known as The Common Market was other than a loss of integrity, self determination, justice and democracy. Lies Heath admitted to deliberately making with the4 memorable admission in an interview by David Frost, where he stated he had ‘deliberately lied as he believed the British electorate would not have voted to ratify our membership, if they had known the truth’.
Truth, which may I point out, was made abundantly clear by that most errudite and informed of politicians Enoch Powell, in his speech in the House of Commons on 25-Feb-1970 CLICK HERE.
You will note neither Farage, Banks, Wigmore or any other notable member of Ukip played any part in obtaining our Referendum – and I reitterate many of us cautioned widely against Farage or Ukip and their oppo Banks having anything to do with fronting BreXit as it would prove an error.
Sadly how right we were!
Ministers call for probe into Brexit tycoon Arron Banks’ “undisclosed” meetings with Russian ambassador

Ministers have backed calls for a probe into a claim millionaire Brexit campaigner Arron Banks had “undisclosed” meetings with Russia’s ambassador to Britain.
Cabinet Office minister David Lidington said authorities should get any evidence.
Leave.EU founder Mr Banks dismissed the allegation as “garbage”.
He said he and ambassador Alexander Yakovenko merely had a “cup of tea”, and two “boozy lunches”.
Mr Banks added he disclosed details of his contacts with the Russians to US officials and got no Russian money or backing for the Brexit campaign.
Speaking at the G7 summit in Quebec, Theresa May said: “I am sure that if there are any allegations that need investigation the proper authorities will do that.”
Emails seen by The Sunday Times showed Mr Banks met Mr Yakovenko on three occasions – having previously only acknowledged one encounter in 2015 – and made a visit to Moscow in February 2016 in the midst of the referendum campaign.
Mr Banks and Mr Wigmore also had lunch with the ambassador in November 2016 – just three days after they and Nigel Farage had met Donald Trump in New York following his victory in the US presidential election, it reported.
Alexander Yakovenko met with Banks on more than one occasion (Image: PA)
They were said to have been introduced to Mr Yakovenko by Alexander Udod, one of 23 suspected Russian intelligence officers subsequently ejected from the UK after the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury.
The ambassador was said to have proposed a business deal that would have involved them in the consolidation into one company of six Russian goldmines.
But Mr Wigmore told the paper: “We never offered any information to him (Mr Yakovenko) or any Russian any details of our (Brexit) campaign.”
Meanwhile Mr Banks, when asked if he ever received Russian cash or assistance for Brexit, laughed: “No, of course not.

“You know if I have, I’m still waiting for the cheque. This is just a complete absolute garbage – it is like the Salem witch hunt.
“They just keep on screaming, ‘Witch! Witch!’”
He added: “The big picture is that they are in the full Remain swing – they are trying to discredit everyone involved in Brexit and it just continues apace.”
He said given he also “briefed the State Department in Washington … if we are Russian spies we must be American spies too”.
Author Isabel Oakeshott, who ghostwrote a book with Mr Banks said he and Mr Wigmore “were shamelessly used by the Russians”.
She added: “Perhaps, the Englishmen did not mind. Banks and Wigmore genuinely sympathised – and continue to sympathise – with some of Putin’s political views.”

New @guardian story up on what’s happening in Britain…but this has big implications for Trump-Russia investigation too. This was @Nigel_Farage‘s campaign. Friend of Bannon. Ally of Trump. Whose funder we now learn had covert links to Russia..
This is the crux of it. Ambassador Yakovenko oversaw the presentation of a multi-billion $ gold deal. And we know that 12 days after referendum, the deal took place. Sound familiar? Same tactics as the Rosneft deal…with Carter Page played here by @Arron_banks
This story as as significant to Trump-Russia as it is to Brexit. And key figure is @Amb_Yakovenko – the Russian ambassador to London who’s named in Mueller indictment of George Papodopoulos. He’s the one who issued invites. He’s the one who oversaw the offer of a $$$ gold deal…
Dear America, you need to get to grips with story dominating UK press. Today, we reveal how Russian ambassador groomed the funders of Brexit campaign with offer of sweetheart deal. That’s the Brexit campaign led by Bannon friend & Trump ally @Nigel_Farage
“At first she accused The Observer of hacking her archive and stealing the email… but by late afternoon on Saturday she had entered into a discussion about cooperating with The Guardian/The Observer if they agreed to hold the story until Monday.”
I did. I would LOVE for MEPs to question @nigel_farage. Because he won’t answer mine. @Arron_banks visiting @RussianEmbassy is one small part of the story. The bigger play is Britain’s central role in the Trump-Russia nexus. And, how, slap bang, in the middle of it all..is Farage

This I assure you is just the tip of the iceberg, which I have refrained from giving details of, nor have I shown where much of the money seems to have gone and apparent properties purchased for 2 main reasons:
Firstly I have waited for the media with its backup of lawyers to indemnify my publication of facts.
Secondly as I did not wish to fall fould of the laws pertaining to reportage of ongoing Court Cases as I felt there was a risk of prejudicing a Court case.
I understand Carole Cadwalladr has witheld publication of the eMails etc for many months on similar grounds, seemingly publishing the material as Isabel Oakeshott was publishing to seemingly seek to cover her apparent collusion with Banks, Farage & Wigmore and doubtless others in betrayal of Britain and the principles of democracy aided indirectly and possibly directly with the Russian authorities and intelligence services.
There is clearly a great deal more to come – however much of the time the Meeja is obsessed with gossip, Slebs and the simple story with peurile soap opera style pandering to the lowest public interest in a rush to the gutter.

Arron Banks, left, with Donald Trump and Nigel Farage
Arron Banks, the millionaire businessman who helped fund Brexit, had three meetings with the Russian ambassador to Britain — raising explosive questions about attempts by Moscow to influence the referendum result.
Emails by Banks and his sidekick Andy Wigmore, shown to The Sunday Times, reveal an extensive web of links between Banks’s Leave.EU campaign and Russian officials.
They show they made repeated contact with officials to discuss business opportunities and issues of mutual interest throughout the referendum campaign and its aftermath.
In his book on the referendum, The Bad Boys of Brexit, and in another public statement, Banks claimed to have had only one meeting with Putin’s envoy Alexander Yakovenko, in September 2015.
But today The Sunday Times can reveal that the pair also had lunch with the ambassador just three days after they and Nigel Farage visited US president Donald Trump in New York in November 2016.
Last night Banks admitted that he handed over telephone numbers for members of Trump’s transition team to Russian officials.
Trump, whose campaign staff are under investigation by a special prosecutor probing whether they colluded with Moscow, stunned the world yesterday by calling for Russia to be readmitted to the G7 group of nations.
The 40,000 emails were obtained by the journalist Isabel Oakeshott, Banks’s ghostwriter on The Bad Boys of Brexit. She is now writing a book with Lord Ashcroft, a former treasurer of the Conservative Party, that covers Russian “hybrid warfare” techniques to influence western politics.
She came forward after her emails were “hacked”. They have now been passed to the House of Commons digital, culture, media and sport select committee, which is investigating Russian attempts to influence western politics with fake news.
The Sunday Times has also seen a 2,000-word account of the meetings written by Wigmore and has conducted several interviews with Banks.
Last night Banks downplayed the significance of the meetings and denied that Russian officials sought to influence his Leave.EU referendum campaign.
But the revelations are likely to trigger fresh investigations by the Electoral Commission and MPs into the conduct of the referendum and the extent of Russian influence.

at this rate Ukip can save a fortune by having their meetings in a telephone box, newsletter lists of MEPs can be written on the back of a postage stamp with a felt tip pen and the list of Ukip MEPs who quit will be more than those who remained!
It is clear that Batten’s letter is correct but also the inevitability of Ukip MEPs quitting as there is a very small height to which you can stack garbage before it blows away!
Dear Fellow UKIP Member,
I would like to start by clarifying the position regarding three former UKIP MEPs.
1. Jim Carver MEP
On Monday 28th May, Jim Carver resigned from UKIP. His decision came out of the blue and was totally unexpected.
I spoke to Jim on the telephone that day, and he was not able to give me any coherent reasons for his resignation. I asked him to do the decent thing and vacate his seat and pass it on to the next UKIP person on the Party List.
He refused, and will now sit as an ‘Independent’ MEP.
2. Tim Aker MEP
Tim Aker effectively ‘unmembered’ himself. He has not paid his UKIP membership fee since January 2018, and he fought in the recent English local elections for another party, the ‘Thurrock Independents’.
After I became Leader I, and others entreated Tim not to fight for this party but to resign from the Thurrock Independents and fight for UKIP. Tim declined to do so despite my best efforts to persuade him.
For a UKIP member to be a candidate for another party is in clear contravention of Rule 4.3 a) of the UKIP Constitution, which says that ‘the Party Chairman shall revoke the membership forthwith of a member who Joins another political party (whether registered with the Electoral Commission or not).’ The Thurrock Independents is registered with the Electoral Commission.
Regarding the two above: they only hold their seats because of the sacrifice of time, effort and money by ordinary UKIP members and activists who put them where they are.
As MEPs, they enjoy a handsome salary, a daily attendance allowance of €300 per day (tax-free) when they attend the Parliament, and they will eventually receive a pension. In my opinion, I feel these people have no loyalty to the Party and its members. The decent and honourable thing for them to do would be to resign their seats and hand them back to UKIP. They have both refused to take this path.
3. Bill Etheridge MEP
Recently, with the full backing of the Party Chairman and the NEC, I withdrew the Whip from Mr Etheridge for a period of six months. He may reapply to have it reinstalled in November if he so wishes.
I took the step of removing the Whip from Bill because he defied my instruction to UKIP MEPs not to travel to Russia. Even though Bill had accepted my veto on a previous trip to Russia, he continued with his plans for a second trip without advising me, or the UKIP Delegation Leader, Ray Finch MEP of his intentions.
Bill took part in a conference, in Russian held territory, in the Crimea. Russia is a state hostile to the UK, and I did not feel it was appropriate for our elected representatives to appear to be giving the Russian regime credence it does not deserve; especially at a time when the Russian state is accused of both attempted murder, and murder, on British soil.
Bill, therefore, does not sit as a UKIP MEP, but I hope that he will return to the fold in November.
I am sorry to be the bearer of this bad news, but I believe that the ordinary UKIP members have a right to know my view on this.
