After Paul Nuttall’s torrid experience, and embarrassing result, in Stoke-on-Trent Central, a party already prone to vicious factional infighting appears to be at daggers drawn once more. One NEC member described Nuttall to me as “weak and walking wounded” in the aftermath of the by-election, which is never a good reputation for a party leader to develop – particularly when they became leader by default in the first place. Elsewhere, senior UKIP figures openly mock Nuttall as “Andy Capp”, a reference to the layabout cartoon character inspired by Nuttall’s ever-present tweed cap.
Arron Banks, the multi-millionaire donor who has kept them afloat thus far, demanded over the weekend that he be made chairman and given the power to purge Douglas Carswell, the sole UKIP MP, among others. He has made similar demands before, and is now threatening to withdraw all financial support unless he gets his way.
For a party whose money troubles are set to get worse when Brexit abolishes their lucrative band of MEPs, Banks’s threat has power. The same NEC source says: “After Stoke [the] future is bleak and we need money. To me Arron is [the] best hope…if we don’t accept Banks he will set up [a] new outfit with Farage”.
Banks has certainly been testing the water for a new party for some time. History – and Leave.EU’s chaotic record – suggests that such an outfit would struggle, but that matters rather less than the damage it would do to UKIP simply by existing. He seems to have the will, as well as the means, to go through with his threat regardless of the wisdom of doing so.
So, with a severely weakened leader and a desperate need for cash, it’s not impossible that the NEC will accept his terms. If they do, it would mean not just kicking out Carswell but also various other senior figures whom Banks dislikes. Some are uncomfortable about the idea of more infighting, while others dislike the prospect of appearing to be bought outright by a donor. Peter Whittle, UKIP’s Deputy Leader, told Marr yesterday that “if Arron were to take his money, there are other people”.
On the face of it, it doesn’t sound like this week is going to be much better than last week for UKIP or Nuttall. Another NEC member predicts that today’s meeting will be “emotional” – regardless of the outcome, that looks likely.

you will I am sure have noted that I predicted that in their utterly predictable failure in Stoke they would start to tear their own hear4t out, just as Ukip always has in the past. Paul Nuttall can be assured to lack the integrity to admit it was his own abject incompetence and undeniable duplicity and dishonesty backed by incompetent idiots managing his failed campaign that caused Ukip to fail to win in Stoke – most probably the most likely and easiest seat for Ukip to win in the whole UK!
Increasingly Ukip confirm they have not got, nor have they ever had or ever will have a rle in British domestic politics – even if they had a single ethical member of any standing to put forward as a candidate it is unlikely they will ever have an MP in Westminster other than the odd turncoat who had established themselves in their constituency and failed within their original party of choice. Such as the tree they have had to date, only one of whom was returned as an MP.
Even Ukip’s comic has published details of how they have collapsed into the gutter squabbling:

DOUGLAS Carswell must be expelled from Ukip or leave the party after his “disgraceful” comments on Question Time, a leading MEP has blasted.

Bill Etheridge, Ukip’s MEP for the West Midlands, was scathing in his criticism of the former Tory MP after he called the party’s values and principles into question on the same night Paul Nuttall was fighting a crucial by-election in Stoke-on-Trent Central.
Ukip’s defence spokesman also attacked Mr Carswell for his remarks on former party leader Nigel Farage – who was not in Stoke for the by-election count amid rumours of new rifts within the party.

Bill Etheridge MEP said Carswell should resign from Ukip
Frankly, it’s time that action was taken to deal with this kind of behaviour and these kind of comments

Mr Etheridge told the Express.co.uk: “Douglas Carswell’s performance on Question Time was an absolute disgrace.
“His criticism of Nigel Farage, and what’s more, his criticism of the values of our party and the smug, smirky manner in which he has done it on a night what is so important to our party is a disgrace.
“Frankly, it’s time that action was taken to deal with this kind of behaviour and these kind of comments.
“All the people who might agree with Mr Carswell and disagree with the values of our party should seriously consider their position and look at joining another party or at least leave Ukip so that we can continue with the important, radical work that Nigel Farage started and Paul Nuttall will continue.”
Douglas Carswell labelled Nigel Farage’s unsuccessful campaign in South Thanet as “mayhem” and smirked as he slammed the leading Brexiteer for “representing LBC” rather than Ukip – despite stating he would not “take a dig” at the former leader.
He said: “That to me is a disgraceful thing to say. The reason we don’t get the benefit of the doubt is due to smears and attacks by our opponents.
“We should be defending our party and be positive about the values we put forward.
Brexit: Which parts of the UK had the majority vote?
Fri, February 17, 2017
Much of the North East of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union including Sunderland, Gateshead, Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Cleveland, North Tyneside and South Tyneside, and Northumberland. Newcastle was the only borough to vote to remain.
GREAT YARMOUTH: The town of Great Yarmouth on the East Coast of England voted by 72% to leave the European Union.
“As Nigel Farage said last week, if Ukip aren’t a radical party, we will amount to nothing… We will not change.
“We will continue to be a radical, reforming party who continue to challenge the status quo.
“Mr Carswell wants to make us more mainstream. The whole purpose of Ukip is to be a radical party who finds the consensus. His performance tonight is proof positive that he has no future in our party.”

Paul Nuttall narrowly lost the Stoke-on-Trent Central by-election
Mr Etheridge said he would be taking the matter to the Ukip’s National Executive Committee (NEC) – who would have the power to make the decision to sack Mr Carswell – after receiving support from “grassroots activists and all throughout the party”.
Paul Nuttall received a vocal show of support from Mr Etheridge, but he added his campaign in Stoke-on-Trent had “suffered” because of the advice he had received from certain members within the party.
Mr Etheridge said: “Paul is a great man and a great leader. He has suffered from very poor efforts of advice by people who have got close to him and I think it’s time the rest of the party supported Paul properly and helped him get the party back on the right track, which is a radical, libertarian party.”
The Express.co.uk has contacted Mr Carswell for a response.
It took less than twenty-four hours from the moment Paul Nuttall was soundly defeated in Stoke and like clockwork, the infighting and bullying within UKIP had already begun. We predicted as much in our piece published earlier in the week and we’re sure nobody reading this is really surprised.
The target this time is someone who is well used to being attacked by his own side and in true UKIP fashion, their one electable and somewhat moderate MP, Douglas Carswell, is facing calls for his expulsion from Bill Etheridge after he made “disgraceful statements” on BBC Question Time last night.
Perhaps Carswell made racist comments or endorsed torture. Maybe he posted false statements about his presence at a disastrous and tragic event. Or did he make multiple sexual harassment calls to women while employed as an adviser to the party?
No he did much, much worse. The Clacton MP is arguably UKIP’s last remaining source of credibility in a party that is beyond toxic and – unlike the majority of his party’s other elected MEPs – is actually known to be a good constituency MP. But the parliamentarian made an indiscretion that UKIP cannot tolerate, a sin so heinous that his immediate expulsion must be arranged.
He suggested that voters have issues with the way UKIP conducts itself and in turn, this may have an impact on why people don’t vote for them. In the twisted and dark world of the UK Independence Party this is sacrilege of the highest order. An inquisition must surely be formed – just don’t call the NEC.
“We as a party need to ask ourselves “what is it, what is it to do with our values, what is it about us?” that means many people aren’t giving us the benefit of the doubt. That’s a key question, regardless of the outcome of the by-election.” – Douglas Carswell MP’s “disgraceful statement”.
It is not the MP’s first run-in with UKIP’s bully boy routine. Last year members of the Young Independence youth movement applauded and cheered when MEP David Coburn declared that “hanging would be too good” for Douglas Carswell at the YI conference.
There have also been multiple briefings and attacks against Carswell placed in the media, including a report that “dark forces” within UKIP had attempted to cause problems in the former Tory’s marriage by launching a blackmail plot – apparently as a way of punishing him for supposed crimes against the party.
The disgraceful behaviour can only be described as a bullying campaign and it is no wonder the MP refuses to attend party conferences and meetings. Perhaps he is worried about his personal safety, after-all, the last time he attended he was verbally abused by UKIP’s most prolific donor.
What makes it all the more shocking is that this campaign is being led and endorsed by UKIP’s elected MEPs, using their media and social media profiles to seek and destroy their man in Westminster; enabling like-minded UKIP supporters and thus expanding the bullying campaign. UKIP MEPs routinely like and re-tweet posts which viciously attack perceived party enemies including Carswell, Suzanne Evans and others, using their profiles as elected members of the European Parliament, not just their private accounts.
UKIP’s MEPs routinely use their media and social media reach to attack their solitary MP.
It’s is exactly this type of behaviour and culture that led to the shocking scenes in Strasbourg last year when UKIP MEPs Steven Woolfe and Mike Hookem let their fists fly in a vote meeting; a boiling over of internal tension that concluded in Woolfe’s seizure and hospital stay. It was not outside the realms of possibility that he could have died as a result of his injuries. Thank god he did not.
Long before “the scuffle” Woolfe had confided in his staff that he was “under attack” by senior UKIP figures, including Paul Nuttall, claiming: “They are out to get me.”
The former UKIP MEP was so concerned by bullying and intimidation among parliamentary staff that he instructed one of his aides to “protect himself” and “not take the bullying”.
Steven Woolfe acknowledges the bullying culture within UKIP in a text conversation with an aide in December 2015.
We have been told of several other alleged violent altercations between UKIP MEPs and /or staff in previous years. Readers will also remember that one of UKIP’s own ethnic minority aides was attacked in his office by the party’s Brussels press chief when he dared to speak up about racism and bullying within the EFDD group.
Judging UKIP by their words and actions it is painfully obvious that this type of “altercation” is the rule rather than the exception. Bullying, intimidation violence and the threat of physical force is a way of life within UKIP.

you will have noted HERE that I consider Paul Nuttall to be untrustworthy and unreliable, calling into question his somewhat belated stories about Hillsborough.
Yo may recall that in that same post I stated that the only convincing provenance that Paul Nuttall was at Hillsborough on that fatefull day would be photographic. Sadly it seems Nuttall chose not to convince but to exploit the Operation Resolve report fror his own personal gain by seeking to make his story of being at Hillsborough less implausible by finally choosing to make a statement, clearly for his own gain as had it been for the families, the bereaved and justice he would have made the statement at least 20 years ago. There is little point in adding his supposed experiences long after the even but indeed long after the findings of the report have been published!
Judge calls #Nuttall ‘implausible’ – can his #Hillsborough statement be trusted?
Yesterday morning, UKIP leader and Stoke Central parliamentary candidate Paul Nuttall told BBC Radio 5 that he had spent ‘more than 3 hours’ giving a statement on his allegedexperiences at the Hillsborough tragedy to police officers of Operation Resolve, the criminal investigation into the unlawful deaths of 96 Liverpool fans.
The SKWAWKBOX has enquiries in with Greater Manchester Police’s press officer about the nature and duration of the statement and their curious description of his visit as ‘he met the criteria for giving a statement’, but evidence has emerged this morning that calls into question the veracity of any information Mr Nuttall included in his statement.
In 2010, then-UKIP Press Officer Mark Croucher took Greg Lance-Watkins of the then-named Caterpillars and Butterflies blog (now Eukup vs UKIP) to court for allegedly violating copyright by his use of an image of Nigel Farage, claiming a punitive sum of around £100,000.
Mr Croucher lost the case and the judge awarded Mr Lance-Watkins £13,000 including all his costs – a sum for which he is still waiting seven years later. The lawyers’ ‘note of judgment’ on the judge’s decision to ‘strike down’ Mr Croucher’s case can be found here.
However, of primary interest to us today is that then-UKIP Chairman Paul Nuttall submitted a statement in support of Mr Croucher’s case – a statement which the judge called ‘implausible‘.
If Paul Nuttall is prepared to submit a statement that the judge considered incredible, unbelievable, in a sworn document to a court of law, why should – how can – we believe that any statement he made to Operation Resolve is reliable and not a desperate attempt to restore his image by doing something he should have done decades ago if his claim to have been at Hillsborough was genuine?
Other than yet another photo of Godfrey Bloom, indistinguishable from others and claimed by Ukip’s Press & Publicity Officer to have been used sometime earlier in leaflets and for the media to reprint there was this photograph of Nigel Farage:
Stqanding in a puddle on a building site and widely available on various web sites without any attribution – the judge found in my favour, not surprisingl!

Why the questions about #Paul_Nuttall, #Ukip and #Hillsborough need proper answers, particularly in view of the lies, distortions and fabrications that are proven that render Nuttall and Ukip untrustworthy and implausible …
was deliberate, a Freudian slip or just an apposite typo!
Interestingly I am given to understand that there is a photographic record, in detail, of those who were involved in the tragedy at Hillsborough and the ajoining stands – I feel it is incumbent on Ukip, to some extent, to restore the credibility of their leader by making strenuous efforts to investigate this record so that Paul Nuttall can point out his father, his two uncles and himself on the relevant photographs.
In view of Paul Nuttall’s undeniable dishonesty and Walter Mittyesque delusional self promotion and fantasy CV and lack of integrity in permitting his employee Lynda Roughley to try to defend him by accepting the blame for his postings on the web site and for that matter, without much clearer validation, his willingness to permit his father to seek to defend his comments about Hillsborough, there is an undeniable display of lack of integrity in his behaviour and claims – at best.
On the Hillsborough I believe the only acceptable response Ukip can now make is to provide the irrefutable photographic evidence that Paul Nuttall was in the zone that can justify his claims to have been a ‘survivour’. It is my hope that he can provide this third party proof, as without it any individual of any integrity would immediately resign as leader of Ukip, as a candidate in the Stoke by-election, as an MEP and from any public office now or in the future – donating any further income or pension entitlements in favour of The Hillsborough Survivours Group for the genuine survivours.
It would seem I am not alone in my doubts and criticism – a position I have held since my first revelations on the matter, long before the issue was a public matter!
I concede that I too user the terminology ‘accident’ relative to the Hillsborough tragedy as although there is no doubt that, as proven, members of the police lied to establish a cover-up of their crass incompetence in a manner which makes one wonder why all those who have been proven to have thus lied have not been prosecuted and where apposite ignominiously sentenced and discharged from the police and any pensions therefrom.
Similarly it was foolish of some in the media and in public office to comment adversley – The Sun and various journalists and politicians included – however it is understandable that they took the assertions of the police at face value, particularly as there was no clear immediate information readily available that refuted the police claims, of which I am aware.
That it was an ‘accident’ is, in my opinion, irrefutable as I can see absolutely no evidence of a premeditated plan to cause injury, merely a gross incompetence on the part of senior police officers and a criminal attempt to lie inorder to cover-up their utter incompetence and failure of judgement.
Why the questions about Paul Nuttall and Hillsborough need proper answers – Phil Scraton
Professor Phil Scraton calls for ULIP leader to fully clarify his position
By – Phil Scraton
16:01, 20 FEB 2017
Updated16:02, 20 FEB 2017
It was August 2011 when Paul Nuttall , now leader of UKIP and parliamentary candidate for Stoke Central, publicly announced that ‘close personal friends’ had lost their lives at Hillsborough .
Five months later, in support of a petition initiated by Anne Williams , whose son had died, he repeated his loss adding that he understood ‘as well as anyone how deep the scars of that tragedy go’. Not least because he, 12 years old at the time, was a ‘survivor’.
Questioned last week about the veracity of his claims he stated that ‘an impression was given that was not accurate’. Despite the claims having been quoted directly from his words, UKIP press officer, Lynda Roughley, took full responsibility and offered her resignation. In a heated Twitter exchange UKIP’s major donor, Arron Banks, stated he was ‘sick to death’ hearing about Hillsborough – ‘it was a disaster and that’s it, not some sort of a cultural happening’. He added, ‘milking a tragedy forever is sick’.
On Friday in an address to the UKIP faithful a tearful Paul Nuttall failed to distance himself from Banks’ comments. Instead he said he had been subjected to a co-ordinated, cruel and almost evil smear campaign’. Nigel Farage came to his defence with an attack on Labour.
According to Farage, Nuttall had ‘tried again and again to help to do whatever needed to be done and they [Labour] kept him out of it for years’. For ‘political reasons’ Nuttall had been deliberately excluded from ‘victim support groups’. This was an absurd allegation. Knowing the campaigns as well as I, no-one tells the families or survivors what to do, least of all political parties.
Through the past 27 years I have read hundreds of testimonies from Hillsborough survivors, rescuers, witnesses and the bereaved. I am well aware that in the aftermath of disasters some might exaggerate, even fabricate, their experiences. For others, as the recent inquests demonstrated, their memories are anything but precise. I’m not that concerned to know whether or not Paul Nuttall, as he maintains, was at Hillsborough in 1989 – and 1988. But given his public standing and the impact of his comments on the bereaved and survivors at such a sensitive time, I do want to know more.
Repeatedly he has claimed ‘survivor’ status. What exactly does this mean? The crush outside the turnstiles? Or the fatal crush in the central pens on the terraces which claimed the lives of 96 men, women and children, that left over 400 seriously injured and many thousands traumatised. These are the survivors, many bereft and traumatised, others who have taken their own lives, or have died prematurely as a direct consequence of the pains of survival.
Fans escape the crush at Hillsborough
Paul Nuttall states that on entering the ground he was in the ‘upper tier’. What does that mean exactly? There are two possibilities. Either the ‘upper tier’ standing pen 7 at the north end of the Leppings Lane terrace or the West Stand seated area above the terrace. While fans in both places witnessed the horrendous scenes in the central pens they were not survivors of the fatal crush. Yet his portrayal of survival appears consistent with his original claim that ‘close personal friends’ had died. A claim he has now admitted was false and for which he has accepted responsibility.
But what of his full story? On the day, how did he and his family members travel to Hillsborough? What time did they arrive at the ground? Were they in the crush at the turnstiles, did they enter through Gate C, and were they in the pens or in the West Stand? These are the questions put to the many witnesses interviewed by the current investigation teams. They were the focus of questioning survivors’ testimonies at the inquests. In the aftermath, when the Taylor Inquiry appealed for witnesses, did Paul Nuttall’s party offer to be interviewed? Did they volunteer statements?
Fans escape the crush at Hillsborough
There is a further coincidental dimension to all this. The Hillsborough Project, of which I was the director, was based at what is now Edge Hill University, then a college of higher education. We wrote two substantial reports, in 1990 and 1995. We worked with Jimmy McGovern on his award-winning drama-documentary, Hillsborough, first broadcast in late 1996. I accompanied many families to the Stuart-Smith scrutiny of new evidence and wrote three submissions. In 1999 I published the first edition of Hillsborough: The Truth. It was widely publicised and serialised in the Sunday Mirror.
A year later the prosecutions of the two senior officers at Hillsborough were held in Leeds. Towards the end of 2000 I published the second edition of the book. The coverage, especially in the North West, was extensive. We hosted meetings with families and survivors at Edge Hill. Paul Nuttall studied History at the College. Our Centre was in the heart of the campus. We must have passed each other on numerous occasions – on the pavements, corridors, coffee bar and so on. He would have walked past our Centre many times.
The Edge Hill University campus
During that period, given the massive publicity our work received, Paul Nuttall could not have failed to know about the Project, its work with the bereaved and survivors.
Yet he never approached us, never shared his experiences. I understand fully there were many people who were, and have remained, unable to talk about what they witnessed on the day. What is not so readily explained is why Paul Nuttall did not drop by for even a confidential conversation, why he held back on disclosure until the Hillsborough Independent Panel was in session and why he chose national television as the forum to break his silence? These are questions of timing and context that, alongside the questions regarding the details of his experiences on the day, require explanation.
(Photo: PA)
If Paul Nuttall was not a prominent politician, these questions would not matter. But he is now a significant public figure and his party has called out others on matters of trust, frankness and openness. Given that flaws in his Hillsborough story have been exposed and admitted, and the bereaved families and survivors are in the midst of a crucial period in the ongoing investigations, the questions detailed here require answers.
According to recent reports Paul Nuttall is under investigation by the European Parliament, along with fellow UKIP MEPs, for alleged misuse of funds. He is also reported as being under police investigation for alleged election fraud in the current by-election. Having erroneously stated in his on-line CV that he held a doctorate and also that he had played soccer professionally, it has emerged this week that he falsely claimed membership of the Board of the North West Training Council.
Regarding Hillsborough, it is time for him to make a full statement, in as much detail as memory allows, recounting his journey to Sheffield, arrival at – and entry into – the ground, his precise location inside, his proximity to the central pens and his journey home. He might also explain why his family did not volunteer statements to the investigations at the time, including their experiences of Leppings Lane in the previous year.
Professor Phil Scraton is author of Hillsborough: The Truth, was lead researcher and primary author of the Hillsborough Panel’s Independent Report and advisor to the Hillsborough Families’ legal teams throughout the recent inquests.

#Paul_Nuttall’s Incompetent Leadership of #Ukip & his crass handling of his lies & distortions, particularly relative to #Hisborough Leads To Senior resignations in his region …
it is clear that as a result of the many misleading lies, exagereations, distortions and false claims made by Nuttall and those he has shifted the blame to, when clearly he is responsible for overseeing his own publicity it is virtually impossible to believe a word he says.
Personally I find him so implausible and so very offensive as an individual that I do not believe that he was at Hillsborough on that fatefull day, I know of one instance long after the event when he made mention he was there and found he was in the presence of someone who most catagorically there and he clammed up and would make no further comment on the matter.
If I am right in my opinion I can only applaud his father for trying to save his son’s credibility by seeking to confirm the claim.
For Nuttall to claim that this is a Labour smear which is both cruell and evil is in itself utter tosh – the early revelation of the facts was not instigated by Labour and as for the claim of ‘cruel and evil’ Paul Nuttall should be minded of Sir Walter Scott’s comment in ‘Marmion’: “Oh! What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive”
It is the very clear deceit that has featured on Paul Nuttall’s web site for several years that has led to his total lack of credibility and the fact that people just don’t trust him on any matter of consequence – whether Paul Nuttall was or was not at Hillsborough on that fatefull day is not relative to his trustworthyness it is the general atmosphere of deception and his crass handling that has led to this situation.
Perhaps when considering claims of cruelty and evil first Paul Nuttall should contemplate a mirror – something I note he is doing little of with his newfound ginger and grey beard!

Stuart Monkcom, UKIP’s Liverpool branch chair, and Adam Heatherington, the party’s Merseyside spokesman, have both quit their positions and resigned their party memberships.
In a statement on behalf of both men, Mr Monkcom wrote: “Although the timing of our resignations is unfortunate in light of upcoming elections, both Adam and I wish to make it clear, where the painful subject of Hillsborough is concerned, with closure not yet in sight, this unprofessional approach and crass insensitivity from high profile people closely within and without Ukip is upsetting and intolerable.”
He added: “We identify most strongly with all the good people of Liverpool and most importantly the families of the Hillsborough victims who have fought so hard and long for justice, in their condemnation of the way UKIP has handled these issues and have resigned our positions and membership of UKIP forthwith.”
While no one from UKIP was available to confirm the resignations to the ECHO, the party’s Merseyside website shows that the position of Liverpool branch chair is now listed as TBA (to be announced).
The UKIP Merseyside website which shows the Liverpool chair position as TBA.
His press officer Lynda Roughley took the blame for the error and offered her resignation, which was refused .
Following this, Ukip donor Arron Banks was criticised for tweeting that he was “sick to death” of hearing about Hillsborough and described the tragedy as “an accident”.
Despite repeated calls for Liverpool fan Mr Nuttall to condemn the multi-millionaire’s comments, he has still offered no response.
It has been a damaging period for the Bootle-born party leader who is hoping to be elected as an MP for Stoke Central on Thursday.
UKIP website claims their supporters are in Stoke, when in fact they were in Bolton.
But his party seemed unsure of exactly where Stoke is is over the weekend, tweeting a picture of Ukip’s “people’s army” allegedly campaigning in the Potteries only for it to be pointed out by twitter users that the photograph was taken more than 50 miles away in Bolton.
It was in Bolton on Friday that Mr Nuttall appeared to wipe a tear from his eye as he asked his members for support over the false Hillsborough claims, before launching a scathing attack on what he called a “cruel” and “almost evil” smear campaign against him.

The Independent understands Ukip headquarters were unaware of Mr Nuttall’s absence at the event AFP
Ukip leader and Stoke by-election candidate Paul Nuttall has failed to turn up for a hustings just a week before the vote, amid ongoing controversy over claims surrounding the Hillsborough disaster.
Ukip MEP Patrick O’Flynn appeared to stand in for Mr Nuttall alongside the other candidates, which include Labour’s Gareth Snell, Conservative Jack Brereton and Lib Dem Zulfiqar Ali.
The Independent understands Ukip headquarters were unaware of Mr Nuttall’s absence at the event.
In a statement, Ukip said: “Mr Nuttall is taking part in this evening’s BBC Radio Stoke hustings, and is, has been and will continue to be talking to media and the people of Stoke Central.
“He was delighted that Patrick O’Flynn was able to represent him this morning. Any suggestions that he is avoiding the media is farcical.”
Paul Nuttall admits his website claim of losing a ‘close personal friend’ at Hillsborough is false
Joe Anderson said the city “would not tolerate” anyone trying to exploit the tragedy in which 96 Liverpool football fans died after been crushed and trampled in the away end of Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield in 1989. He said Mr Nuttall should “explain himself to the people of Liverpool” rather than seek to become the new MP for Stoke-on-Trent.
Mr Nuttall seems to have gone quiet in the wake of the controversy. His website has been taken offline for “scheduled maintenance” and his Twitter account has been silent since Monday.
The Ukip leader has attracted fierce criticism for claiming he was a Hillsborough survivor, despite a teacher at his school at the time and members of the Hillsborough Family Support Group saying they had no recollection of him attending the match.
Mr Nuttall has continued to insist he was there, but said that a claim on his website that he had lost “close personal friends” in the disaster was untrue. He clarified that he had lost “someone he knew” and said the claim had been put on his website without his knowledge.
His long-serving press officer, Lynda Roughley, offered to resign over the scandal – taking full responsibility for the claim and saying, “Paul is a man of great integrity and would not say something he knew to be untrue”.

The official website of under-fire Ukip leader Paul Nuttall has been taken down for “scheduled maintenance” amid the controversy of his Hillsborough claims.
The site was where it was suggested the MEP had “lost personal friends” in the Hillsborough football disaster, a claim he revealed to Radio City in Liverpool this week was “wrong”.
Reports in the Guardian have even suggested that Nuttall was not at Hillsborough at all – which he refutes.
Nuttall said in a statement on Tuesday night:
“As a 12 year old boy I travelled to Sheffield that day, as did so many others to enjoy watching the team that I loved. From the upper tier of the Leppings Lane End of the Hillsborough Stadium I watched the events of that day unfold with horror.
“Today I was made aware of an article on my website which claimed I had lost people close to me at Hillsborough. This was an article that I did not write and did not see prior to is being posted by a member of my staff. Of course I take responsibility for those things that are put out under my name, but I was genuinely taken aback when this claim was brought to my attention and am both appalled and very sorry that an impression was given that was not accurate.
“Like everybody connected to the Hillsborough disaster, memories of 15th April 1989 bring me nothing but pain and upset. Having now clarified my involvement with those events I intend to focus my energies and efforts on working to represent the people of Stoke on Trent Central in the way in which they deserve.”

in the light of the obvious lies and fantasies of Paul Nuttall it is hard to believe almost anything he says – I take this opportunity of congratulating Lynda Roughly, his press secretary, who is taking the ‘fall’ for the untrustworthy behaviour of Paul Nuttall – just think how long his claims about having been in two separate places at Hillsborough on that tragic day but the lie that he had lost close friends at Hillsborough had been displayed on his web site!
It looks very much as if the fact that on this web site he was exposed on this issue and also the lies implying he had a PHd etc. etc. some time ago have now caught up with him and he is wriggling and squirming to pass the buck. It was quite some time ago that I predicted he would pass the buck and blame some minor employee he selected and used our money to pay!
Paul Nuttall Gets Roasted With Twitter Questions After Latest Backtrack Over Hillsborough
‘Will you consider privatsising yourself since you’re being publicly owned?’
Paul Nuttall is paying the price for backtracking on yet another claim – this time admitting he did not lose “close, personal friends” in the Hillsborough disaster.
It follows further claims made under his own name, such as that he was once a professional footballer for Tranmere Rovers, or that he holds a PhD, that he has since had to admit were false.
After the latest embarrassment for Nuttall, Twitter users roasted him with the hashtag ‘#AskPaulNuttall’.
Some of the questions ranged from the pointed… … to the down-right silly.
One user also evoked Nuttall’s previous backing for NHS privatisation – something else he has since changed his mind on.
Nuttall had said his press officer was to blame for claiming close friends of his were among the 96 Liverpool fans killed during the Hillsborough disaster.
When confronted with the allegation that appeared twice on his website, Nuttall told Radio City Talk: “I haven’t lost anyone who was a close personal friend, there were people I knew through football and things like that,” he admitted. “I’m sorry about that. I haven’t put that out. That is wrong.”
Ukip press officer Lynda Roughley later issued a statement saying she was “entirely responsible” and offered to resign.
She said: “Paul is a man of great integrity and would not say something he knew to be untrue. It’s me who has made this mistake, and one I feel absolutely terrible about.
“I am frankly mortified at the distress this issue has caused Paul and may have caused to anyone involved with the Hillsborough tragedy.
“I have today offered my resignation. I could not be more sorry.”

Paul Nuttall, the leader of Ukip and their most important by-election candidate ever, as the future of Ukip is so dependent on him now that Nigel Farage has quit and gone off to feed his ego on what he hopes will be a larger stage than just his libertine and louche boozing and womanising as an entertainer with whom to goad the two British political parties of any consequence.
Unfortunately it seems the idiot and fantasist Nuitytal could not muster any competent support and became dependent on failures like Lisa Duffy, Peter Reeve, Patrick O’Flynn and the like.
Nuttall’s lies and fantasies have reduced him to just being the butt of schoolboy humour with endless silly jokes poking fun at him on the internet – his reputation, such as it might have been, is in tatters and everyone knows his CV and his websites are so shot full of lies, distortions and fantasies as to be utterly implausible.
One has to give his Press Officer full marks for loyalty and she doesx deserve to hang onto any money he gives her for the implausible claim that she was responsible for the ‘errors’ – frankly neither I nor anyone I know believes her but well done for trying to save the odious Nuttall from the ridicule and opprobrium he has earned and so richly deserved
Paul Nuttall: I struggle without the eye I lost at the Battle of Hastings
UKIP leader Paul Nuttall has opened up about his struggle with the eye he lost at the Battle of Hastings.
Nuttall was leading the army that was defending England from a Norman-French invasion when he struck in the eye with an arrow.
He told WalesOnCraic:
“I’d deployed my forces in a small, dense formation at the top of a steep slope. I thought that the wooded flanks and marshy ground in front of us would help. I didn’t want to use my archers because that would have given their archers a shitload of arrows to fire back so I ordered the creation of a shield wall. They threw everything they had at us but we held firm. Unfortunately, some of the lads decided to give chase to the French, which broke our defence and that was the beginning of the end. We took a a lunch break around midday but as soon as we got back to it, I got a bloody arrow in the eye. The boys told me to keep blinking and it’d work its way out. I tried blowing my nose but nothing worked. In the end, I had to have my eye taken out and that was that.”
Nuttall also went on to explain how his one eye hampered his moon landing.
“We was coming in to land and I couldn’t get the trajectory quite right because I only had one eye. The landing was a bit bumpy but we did ok in the end.”

It Seems Even The Press Find #Paul_Nuttall’s Claims in his CV & elsewhere To Be Implausible – Not just his lies to the Electoral Commission …
Well I Guess It Is Time For Another Series Of Ukip Leadership Elections OR Bringing Forward The Date Of The Launch Of Arron Banks’ New Party,
Propaganda for which is seemingly underway with his new online News Paper!
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Hi,
one has to wonder if Paul Nuttall, the present leader of Ukip, is in fact in any way reliable – his CV and various web sites, some of many years standing, seem to be riddled with inaccuracy which at best seem to be fantasy but seem much more like self aggrandising lies are plausible in any respect.
Nuttall’s behaviour is indubitably bringing Ukip into disrepute with the coverage he is getting with a fully dedicated thread on Twitter covering his implausible claims from which I quote viz.: & even more concerning and rather more than a leg pull:
AND:
This is of course not provenance that he has lied on all counts but it is clearly provenance that he is sufficiently untrustworthy as to have brought Ukip, EU politics and the body politic into disrepute – not that I would claim that he is unique in that situation as all 3 are at an all time low as shown by the calibre of individuals who have floated to the top and reached positions of stature and responsibility in recent years and are quite clearlyacting beyond their wit or integrity!
That the leader of a British political party, however insignificant, can get away with claiming he hadn’t noticed glaring inaccuracies, exagerations and even lies on his own web sites and social media profiles that had been there for a matter of years seems completely implausible to me – at very best it indicates a crass ineptitude that is not comensurate with an individual seeking to represent a constituency and its constituents on either a local, a regional or a world stage – the man is clearly inadequate to the task, at best, but seems more to be self seeking founded on outright dishonesty.
One wonders how such an odious individual, for he lacks even the inate charm and competent ability to entertain that the undeniable scoundrel Nigel Farage had, just how can he have floated to the top even in such an obvious septic tank as Ukip, with its fiddling, lies, incompetence, corruption, nepotism, criminality, bullying, debauchery, back stabbing and squabbling, for which there is so much documentary proof on this web site alone! Even it would seem a common occurance to use the public purse to fund sexual gratification!
Have they no shame? But then again sociopathy have no understanding of shame!
Ukip leader Paul Nuttall denies lying about being at Hillsborough disaster
Campaign groups express surprise that he never assisted in their fight to get justice for the 96 who died
Paul Nuttall, the Ukip leader, has denied that he has lied about being a Hillsborough survivor after a number of people questioned his claim to have been present on the day of the disaster.
He claims to have been present, along with his father and two uncles, when 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death, and has said only “scum of the earth” would suggest this was not true.
After he added in a newspaper interview last weekend that he did not like to talk about the disaster, the Hillsborough Families Support Group questioned why he had never offered any support, while others who knew him at the time say they have no recollection of him saying he was present during the disaster.
With these questions being raised, Ukip gave the Guardian two statements on behalf of Nuttall, one from his father and another from a Ukip employee, saying that they and Nuttall had been at Hillsborough on the day of the disaster.
The statement from Nuttall’s father gave an incorrect age for his son at the time of the 1989 disaster.
The statements appear to raise further questions for Nuttall, who is contesting the Stoke Central byelection for Ukip on 23 February.
He declined to answer the Guardian’s questions about the matter. His parents have not responded to a request that they speak to the Guardian.Nuttall first publicly claimed to have been at Hillsborough in a letter to the Liverpool Daily Post in July 2010. He raised the matter again in May last year, saying during an interview on the BBC’s Politics Show North West that he had been in the overcrowded Leppings Lane end of the ground.
He told his interviewer that he thought police officers responsible for the disaster should be prosecuted. “I think people should carry the can for their actions,” he said.
Nuttall was 12 at the time of the disaster, and was a pupil at Savio high school in Bootle, Liverpool. One of his former teachers, a Roman Catholic priest, has told the Guardian that the school had believed it was aware of the identities of every boy who had been at Hillsborough, in order to help them through a difficult period, and that Nuttall was not among them.
A fellow pupil at the school who says he has been a friend of Nuttall for decades, said the Ukip leader had not once mentioned being there. “I have been very good friends with Paul for over 25 years,” he said, adding that during that time they had “never spoken” about Hillsborough.
While the teacher and friend expressed surprise that Nuttall says he was at Hillsborough, their comments do not prove that he was not present.
Joe Benton, who was Labour MP for Bootle for 25 years, said that to the best of his knowledge Nuttall had not mentioned Hillsborough when he stood against him, for Ukip, in the 2005 and 2010 general elections.
Nuttall had not mentioned being present at Hillsborough during any public meeting they had both attended, nor in his campaign literature, Benton said, despite the strength of feeling within the constituency about the police negligence that led to the deaths, and the subsequent official cover-up that led to Liverpool fans being blamed for the disaster.
The current Labour MP, Peter Dowd, said that as far as he was aware, Nuttall had not mentioned Hillsborough when he contested Bootle for Ukip in the 2015 general election.
The mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: “If Nuttall was [at Hillsborough] then it is extremely disappointing that during many years of pain and anguish for the families, he never once used his position nationally and internationally to stand up for people from his own community and join the fight for justice.”
Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Families Support Group, said she was surprised that Nuttall had never offered to assist with their decades-long campaign to overturn the cover-up that led to Liverpool football fans being blamed for the 96 deaths.
“I haven’t heard anything about him being at the match,” she said. “Has he given a statement to the police, who have said they want to hear from everyone who was there? He can’t say he hasn’t heard that the police want to take statements from everyone who was in the Leppings Lane, as it’s been all over local and national media.”
Nuttall declined to explain why he had not offered his support to the group. He also declined to say whether he had given a statement to the police who are currently investigating events on the day of the disaster.
He further declined to offer any comment about the way in which a former teacher and old school friend said he had never mentioned being at Hillsborough; nor about the way in which he appears not to have mentioned being present at the disaster while fighting three general elections in a Liverpool constituency.
Nuttall, a member of the European parliament for eight years, also declined to say whether he had ever sought to have the parliament debate any of the issues arising out of the disaster.
In response to the questions, Ukip issued a statement that said Nuttall was the victim of a smear campaign sanctioned by senior members of the Labour party.
Any claim that he was not at Hillsborough was “totally false and highly defamatory”, the statement said, adding: “Paul was indeed at Hillsborough. He attended the match with his father and other family members. For political opponents to suggest otherwise and for left-wing media organisations to promote such claims constitutes a new low for the Labour party and its associates.”
Ukip produced two statements. The statement from Nuttall’s father begins: “I am and always have been the father of Paul Nuttall, leader of the UK Independence party.” It goes on to state that Nuttall had been 13 years old at the time of the disaster. He was actually 12.
The second statement is said to be from a Ukip official at the European parliament. This said that the two men had been friends for 35 years and were both at Hillsborough.
Last week, Nuttall told the Ukip-supporting Sunday Express that he had been at the match with his father and two uncles, and that after being caught in a crush outside the stadium they had entered the upper tier at Leppings Lane. Only “scum of the earth” would say otherwise.
It is not the first time that claims made by Nuttall, or made on his behalf, have been questioned by others.
Staffordshire police have said they are investigating an allegation of election fraud after Nuttall’s nomination papers for the Stoke Central byelection gave an address in the city at which he subsequently admitted he was not living. Knowingly providing false information on a nomination paper is an offence punishable by up to 51 weeks’ imprisonment. Ukip said all rules had been complied with.
Nuttall’s personal website has carried the claim that he had once been a professional footballer with Tranmere Rovers. After Rovers stated that he had been a member of its youth side, but never a professional, Nuttall blamed his website’s statement on a Ukip press officer.
Until late last year, Nuttall’s profile page on the LinkedIn social networking site implied that he had a PhD. He did not complete his doctoral studies, however. Challenged about this, Nuttall insisted that the LinkedIn page “wasn’t put up by us, and we don’t know where it’s come from”. The page was subsequently edited to remove any reference to a PhD.
In 2015, while Ukip’s education spokesperson, Nuttall appeared in a photograph that was found to have been digitally altered to give the impression that he was standing in a library. Nuttall responded by joking that he had two copies of each of his books.
He is currently among six Ukip members of the European parliament who are under investigation for alleged misuse of funds. If they are found to have broken the rules, they will be expected to pay the money, which totals around £500,000.
Ukip rejects the allegations, saying it has “scrupulously applied” the rules of the European parliament.
