you may recall numerous of us who had been involved in opposition to Britain’s membership of the Franco German EU scam consistently were outspoken against Leave.EU, Arron Banks Ukip or Farage having any leading role in the campaign to Leave_the_EU.
We consistently spoke out that Banks, Farage & Ukip would in the long run do more harm than good to the campaign and clearly could not be trusted – time and again Nigel Farage had lied, cheated, bullied and swindled for his own gain, his sociopath personna was clear to see.
Banks’ only real claim to fame seemed to be that he laid claim to wealth and achievements and even that seemed to be leveraged! Leveraged largely on his own claims which exploited the gullible and the greedy.
It was clear from particularly Farage’s self serving antics and lies that their entire campaign was little to do with BreXit and that BreXit was nothing more than a vehicle for their egos, greep and self adulation and in Farage’s case his obsession with self gratification with numerous wives and mistresses he determined should be funded by the tax payers via the EU.
You will have noted Nigel Farage did absolutely nothing to oppose the imposition of a New EU Constitution on these United Kingdoms and stood by in aquescence as The EEC arbitrarily changed its name, further revealing its true intent, to The EU.
Many will have noted he opposed any individual in Ukip seeking actively to oppose the EU in a manner which might damage his income stream – even latching onto Declan Ganley in efforts to raise his income!
The one clear action to bring about democratisation of Britain’s position by legitimate and effective means Nigel Farage did all he could to oppose – he outright condemned Nikki Sinclaire’s efforts to Petition Parliament to hold a full House of Commons debate on an IN/OUT Referendum.
Farage went so far as not only engineer Sinclaire out of her position as a Ukip MEP and at the time one of Uki8p’s largest donors, he even colluded in the criminal activities of John Ison to collude with seemingly corrupt Police and a seemingly equally corrupt CPS to abuse the legal system to ‘frame’ Sinclaire & destroy her efforts to oppose Britain’s continued membership of the EU.
Fortunately it became clear Sinclaire had greater perspicacity and determination and she recruited a team which with her financial support obtained 225,000 validated signatures to her petition which when it was delivered the Government was legally bound to debate.
In an effort to stem the revolt in his PartyDavid Cameron, after his first major defeat/rebellion in Government, inflicted as a result of Nikki Sinclaire’s Petition and the resultant debate – He found himself in the position where he had to promise an Unconditional IN/OUT Referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU in the Tory manifesto.
The situation was now irrevocably heading for a vote by the British electorate a vote which was won in the largest vote in British history, won by 52% of the vote for BreXit and 48% for Remain.
Clearly the bumps in the road will be many and we are faced with challenges in reversing 50+ years of political and economic folly but the establishment of democracy and liberty for any Country is inevitably a bumpy road with numerous setbacks.
Despite the sacrifice of millions of lives in Britain’s past to establish one of the best and fairest, tollerant and just democracies oever on this planet I would contend one of the greatest setbacks was in believing the lies and distortions of Edward Heath’s era in his deliberate lies to dupe the British electorate into believing that membership of the EU, then known as The Common Market was other than a loss of integrity, self determination, justice and democracy. Lies Heath admitted to deliberately making with the4 memorable admission in an interview by David Frost, where he stated he had ‘deliberately lied as he believed the British electorate would not have voted to ratify our membership, if they had known the truth’.
Truth, which may I point out, was made abundantly clear by that most errudite and informed of politicians Enoch Powell, in his speech in the House of Commons on 25-Feb-1970 CLICK HERE.
You will note neither Farage, Banks, Wigmore or any other notable member of Ukip played any part in obtaining our Referendum – and I reitterate many of us cautioned widely against Farage or Ukip and their oppo Banks having anything to do with fronting BreXit as it would prove an error.
Sadly how right we were!
Ministers call for probe into Brexit tycoon Arron Banks’ “undisclosed” meetings with Russian ambassador

Ministers have backed calls for a probe into a claim millionaire Brexit campaigner Arron Banks had “undisclosed” meetings with Russia’s ambassador to Britain.
Cabinet Office minister David Lidington said authorities should get any evidence.
Leave.EU founder Mr Banks dismissed the allegation as “garbage”.
He said he and ambassador Alexander Yakovenko merely had a “cup of tea”, and two “boozy lunches”.
Mr Banks added he disclosed details of his contacts with the Russians to US officials and got no Russian money or backing for the Brexit campaign.
Speaking at the G7 summit in Quebec, Theresa May said: “I am sure that if there are any allegations that need investigation the proper authorities will do that.”
Emails seen by The Sunday Times showed Mr Banks met Mr Yakovenko on three occasions – having previously only acknowledged one encounter in 2015 – and made a visit to Moscow in February 2016 in the midst of the referendum campaign.
Mr Banks and Mr Wigmore also had lunch with the ambassador in November 2016 – just three days after they and Nigel Farage had met Donald Trump in New York following his victory in the US presidential election, it reported.
Alexander Yakovenko met with Banks on more than one occasion (Image: PA)
They were said to have been introduced to Mr Yakovenko by Alexander Udod, one of 23 suspected Russian intelligence officers subsequently ejected from the UK after the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury.
The ambassador was said to have proposed a business deal that would have involved them in the consolidation into one company of six Russian goldmines.
But Mr Wigmore told the paper: “We never offered any information to him (Mr Yakovenko) or any Russian any details of our (Brexit) campaign.”
Meanwhile Mr Banks, when asked if he ever received Russian cash or assistance for Brexit, laughed: “No, of course not.
Arron’s Leave.EU and Farage’s Brexit campaign worked hand-in-hand before the referendum (Image: PA)
“You know if I have, I’m still waiting for the cheque. This is just a complete absolute garbage – it is like the Salem witch hunt.
“They just keep on screaming, ‘Witch! Witch!’”
He added: “The big picture is that they are in the full Remain swing – they are trying to discredit everyone involved in Brexit and it just continues apace.”
He said given he also “briefed the State Department in Washington … if we are Russian spies we must be American spies too”.
Author Isabel Oakeshott, who ghostwrote a book with Mr Banks said he and Mr Wigmore “were shamelessly used by the Russians”.
She added: “Perhaps, the Englishmen did not mind. Banks and Wigmore genuinely sympathised – and continue to sympathise – with some of Putin’s political views.”

New @guardian story up on what’s happening in Britain…but this has big implications for Trump-Russia investigation too. This was @Nigel_Farage‘s campaign. Friend of Bannon. Ally of Trump. Whose funder we now learn had covert links to Russia..
This is the crux of it. Ambassador Yakovenko oversaw the presentation of a multi-billion $ gold deal. And we know that 12 days after referendum, the deal took place. Sound familiar? Same tactics as the Rosneft deal…with Carter Page played here by @Arron_banks
This story as as significant to Trump-Russia as it is to Brexit. And key figure is @Amb_Yakovenko – the Russian ambassador to London who’s named in Mueller indictment of George Papodopoulos. He’s the one who issued invites. He’s the one who oversaw the offer of a $$$ gold deal…
Dear America, you need to get to grips with story dominating UK press. Today, we reveal how Russian ambassador groomed the funders of Brexit campaign with offer of sweetheart deal. That’s the Brexit campaign led by Bannon friend & Trump ally @Nigel_Farage
“At first she accused The Observer of hacking her archive and stealing the email… but by late afternoon on Saturday she had entered into a discussion about cooperating with The Guardian/The Observer if they agreed to hold the story until Monday.”
I did. I would LOVE for MEPs to question @nigel_farage. Because he won’t answer mine. @Arron_banks visiting @RussianEmbassy is one small part of the story. The bigger play is Britain’s central role in the Trump-Russia nexus. And, how, slap bang, in the middle of it all..is Farage

This I assure you is just the tip of the iceberg, which I have refrained from giving details of, nor have I shown where much of the money seems to have gone and apparent properties purchased for 2 main reasons:
Firstly I have waited for the media with its backup of lawyers to indemnify my publication of facts.
Secondly as I did not wish to fall fould of the laws pertaining to reportage of ongoing Court Cases as I felt there was a risk of prejudicing a Court case.
I understand Carole Cadwalladr has witheld publication of the eMails etc for many months on similar grounds, seemingly publishing the material as Isabel Oakeshott was publishing to seemingly seek to cover her apparent collusion with Banks, Farage & Wigmore and doubtless others in betrayal of Britain and the principles of democracy aided indirectly and possibly directly with the Russian authorities and intelligence services.
There is clearly a great deal more to come – however much of the time the Meeja is obsessed with gossip, Slebs and the simple story with peurile soap opera style pandering to the lowest public interest in a rush to the gutter.

Arron Banks, left, with Donald Trump and Nigel Farage
Arron Banks, the millionaire businessman who helped fund Brexit, had three meetings with the Russian ambassador to Britain — raising explosive questions about attempts by Moscow to influence the referendum result.
Emails by Banks and his sidekick Andy Wigmore, shown to The Sunday Times, reveal an extensive web of links between Banks’s Leave.EU campaign and Russian officials.
They show they made repeated contact with officials to discuss business opportunities and issues of mutual interest throughout the referendum campaign and its aftermath.
In his book on the referendum, The Bad Boys of Brexit, and in another public statement, Banks claimed to have had only one meeting with Putin’s envoy Alexander Yakovenko, in September 2015.
But today The Sunday Times can reveal that the pair also had lunch with the ambassador just three days after they and Nigel Farage visited US president Donald Trump in New York in November 2016.
Last night Banks admitted that he handed over telephone numbers for members of Trump’s transition team to Russian officials.
Trump, whose campaign staff are under investigation by a special prosecutor probing whether they colluded with Moscow, stunned the world yesterday by calling for Russia to be readmitted to the G7 group of nations.
The 40,000 emails were obtained by the journalist Isabel Oakeshott, Banks’s ghostwriter on The Bad Boys of Brexit. She is now writing a book with Lord Ashcroft, a former treasurer of the Conservative Party, that covers Russian “hybrid warfare” techniques to influence western politics.
She came forward after her emails were “hacked”. They have now been passed to the House of Commons digital, culture, media and sport select committee, which is investigating Russian attempts to influence western politics with fake news.
The Sunday Times has also seen a 2,000-word account of the meetings written by Wigmore and has conducted several interviews with Banks.
Last night Banks downplayed the significance of the meetings and denied that Russian officials sought to influence his Leave.EU referendum campaign.
But the revelations are likely to trigger fresh investigations by the Electoral Commission and MPs into the conduct of the referendum and the extent of Russian influence.

at this rate Ukip can save a fortune by having their meetings in a telephone box, newsletter lists of MEPs can be written on the back of a postage stamp with a felt tip pen and the list of Ukip MEPs who quit will be more than those who remained!
It is clear that Batten’s letter is correct but also the inevitability of Ukip MEPs quitting as there is a very small height to which you can stack garbage before it blows away!
Dear Fellow UKIP Member,
I would like to start by clarifying the position regarding three former UKIP MEPs.
1. Jim Carver MEP
On Monday 28th May, Jim Carver resigned from UKIP. His decision came out of the blue and was totally unexpected.
I spoke to Jim on the telephone that day, and he was not able to give me any coherent reasons for his resignation. I asked him to do the decent thing and vacate his seat and pass it on to the next UKIP person on the Party List.
He refused, and will now sit as an ‘Independent’ MEP.
2. Tim Aker MEP
Tim Aker effectively ‘unmembered’ himself. He has not paid his UKIP membership fee since January 2018, and he fought in the recent English local elections for another party, the ‘Thurrock Independents’.
After I became Leader I, and others entreated Tim not to fight for this party but to resign from the Thurrock Independents and fight for UKIP. Tim declined to do so despite my best efforts to persuade him.
For a UKIP member to be a candidate for another party is in clear contravention of Rule 4.3 a) of the UKIP Constitution, which says that ‘the Party Chairman shall revoke the membership forthwith of a member who Joins another political party (whether registered with the Electoral Commission or not).’ The Thurrock Independents is registered with the Electoral Commission.
Regarding the two above: they only hold their seats because of the sacrifice of time, effort and money by ordinary UKIP members and activists who put them where they are.
As MEPs, they enjoy a handsome salary, a daily attendance allowance of €300 per day (tax-free) when they attend the Parliament, and they will eventually receive a pension. In my opinion, I feel these people have no loyalty to the Party and its members. The decent and honourable thing for them to do would be to resign their seats and hand them back to UKIP. They have both refused to take this path.
3. Bill Etheridge MEP
Recently, with the full backing of the Party Chairman and the NEC, I withdrew the Whip from Mr Etheridge for a period of six months. He may reapply to have it reinstalled in November if he so wishes.
I took the step of removing the Whip from Bill because he defied my instruction to UKIP MEPs not to travel to Russia. Even though Bill had accepted my veto on a previous trip to Russia, he continued with his plans for a second trip without advising me, or the UKIP Delegation Leader, Ray Finch MEP of his intentions.
Bill took part in a conference, in Russian held territory, in the Crimea. Russia is a state hostile to the UK, and I did not feel it was appropriate for our elected representatives to appear to be giving the Russian regime credence it does not deserve; especially at a time when the Russian state is accused of both attempted murder, and murder, on British soil.
Bill, therefore, does not sit as a UKIP MEP, but I hope that he will return to the fold in November.
I am sorry to be the bearer of this bad news, but I believe that the ordinary UKIP members have a right to know my view on this.

as I recall Godfrey Bloom was chairman of ADDE and it was managed by Bonecci – it should be entertaining to see the efforts the EU will have to make to get 1Million EUros back from either of them!
You may remember Farage wanted Ukip to form a Pan EU Party but the members voted against Ukip expanding his empire and income so ignoring the member’s vote he set it up anyway and put his placeman Godfrey in office!
Defunct Eurosceptic party linked to Ukip asked to repay €1.1m
Alliance for Direct Democracy must repay entire 2016 grant after investigation into misspending of EU funds

A defunct European political grouping that was dominated by Ukip has been asked to repay €1.1m (£977,000) to the European parliament following an investigation into misspending of EU funds.
On Tuesday it emerged that the defunct party is facing an even higher bill, after European parliament authorities asked the ADDE to repay its entire 2016 grant. A meeting of senior MEPs concluded that the ADDE owed the parliament €1.1m in funds “unduly paid” in 2016, because it had never supplied documents to prove that the grant had been spent in line with EU rules.
“Despite the reminders, ADDE never provided the final statement of eligible expenditure actually incurred to the auditor,” concluded an internal report.
Refusing to sign off the ADDE accounts, the auditors found that €299,270 had been spent in breach of EU rules, while the rest was unclear. The ADDE could also not be described as “a going concern” because it had gone into liquidation, auditors said.
In 2016 the ADDE was asked to repay tens of thousands when it was found to have spent EU funds on the 2015 British general election campaign, breaking rules that bar spending on domestic politics. A sister organisation, the Institute for Direct Democracy in Europe, was asked to repay €35,000 and later lost an appeal to have EU funds reinstated.
ADDE was found to have spent EU funds on Nigel Farage’s bid to become an MP in the 2015 UK general election. Photograph: Alamy Stock Photo
The EU began funding pan-European political parties and foundations ahead of the 2014 European elections in an effort to stir political debate beyond national borders. The rules were tightened up after it emerged that Eurosceptic parties had been using the money for national campaigns. More than 40% of ADDE members were Ukip MEPs, and no other party had more than a handful of members.
The former party is separate from Ukip’s group in the European parliament, the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy, but the two organisations shared many members, including EFDD’s leader, Nigel Farage.
Farage, who is being docked half his MEP salary over a separate dispute, told the Guardian he “wouldn’t know” anything about ADDE finances, noting that he had never been a director. He accused the parliament of singling out Eurosceptic parties: “Ever since Brexit, the whole thing has been vindictive in the most extraordinary way.”

UKIP Leader Gerard Batten said: “I have just heard that Jim Carver MEP has resigned from UKIP. I immediately spoke to Jim on the telephone. He was unable or unwilling to give me a coherent reason for his resignation. I spoke to him earlier this week and he gave me no indication of his intentions.
“I asked him to do the decent and honourable thing and resign his MEP seat and make way for the next UKIP person on the Party List. He refused.
“I am sorry to say Jim has joined the ranks of those without honour who continue to take the salary, expenses and pension which they would never have had without the sacrifice of ordinary UKIP members.
“UKIP will continue its fight for a complete exit from the European Union.
Do be minded that none of the many Ukip MEPs who quit Ukip has stood down as an MEP to make way for the next Ukip MEP in line!
During the Welsh Devolution campaign when I was a very active member of the NO campaign and was also trying to clean up Ukip’s act so that they would possibly be competent to lead the campaign against EU membership – something eventually they sadly did more to hinder than to help, with their corruption, in fighting and petty squables not to mention their overt racism and general incompetence – I introduced Carys Pugh, Betty Bowen & Hopkins, founder members of the Welsh NO Campaign to Jim Carver, to work with Ukip.
Sadly Jim Carver was way out of his depth and far more interested in selling umberellas, trying to buy a classic car Carys owned and trying to get me to sell him Medals awarded to Jewish soldiers, who served with the British Army, at below market value!
When Richard Suchozewski was elected as Chairman and Leader of Ukip in Wales he pretty rapidly saw Jim Carver’s self interested shortcomings and dumped him as Ukip Regional Organiser for Wales and replaced him with John Bufton.
I was amused to note today that although Jim Carver is one of my MEPs I thought I’d look at his Twitter Feed to see if he had commented on his having quit Ukip only to find he is clearly ashamed of his behaviour and has blocked me:
You are blocked from following @JamesJimCarver and viewing @JamesJimCarver‘s Tweets. Learn more
I therefore used another account, which I do not post with, merely read other accounts with, and scanned through his recent entries to his site – Here is Jim Carvers:
After 22 years’ tireless campaigning for #UKIP, I announce my resignation.
1./ Jim Carver quit Ukip almost exactly when he first heard the ADDE Pan EU Party , which I understand he was closely linked with, is being ordered to repay about 1 Million of tax payers’ money which they fraudulently squandered amongst other things on funding Farage’s efforts to get elected as an MP!
2./ I’m not surprised Jim Carver quit the EFDD to join the ‘Non Escrit’ MEPs as that will give him personal control of 40>50K extra in expenses that as an EFDD member Farage used!
I expect you will find the few MEPs who remain in Ukip will quit quite soon now, both to gain the extra expenses and to start negotiating as potential EU Lobbyists or for jobs in the EU or even some for jobs with the Tories.
I gather Ukip MEPs are already angling for EU jobs remaining on EU salaries, expenses and perks during any transition term that the EU forces on Britain to go on milking the British tax payers although the majority vote was for an unconditional BreXit!

it does seem very much as if there is an official cover-up in progress – Just why are the facts regarding the charges related to electoral fraud by Tory MP Craig MacKinley, previously of Ukip, being so obviously suppressed?
C4News, Sun, Times & Mail failed today in bid to Supreme Ct to lift reporting restrictions on legal arguments in courts over criminal proceedings against Craig Mackinlay MP, Nathan Gray & Marion Little, accused of alleged election offences relating to 2015 Election in S Thanet
If it’s an actual criminal prosecution and just straight reporting without attempts to effect the case how is that so? Is any member of the UK public needing protection in their private or even public life over this. Very strange.

Who Are The Criminals? #Police#CPS or #Courts! #Craig_MacKinley charged with #Electoral_Fraud in 2015 – 3 YEARS later he was due in Court today but ‘Case Postponed due to legal reasons’ WHO is colluding in the crime? ‘Justice delayed is justice denied’ THIS IS SHAMEFULL!
Sadly true – The criminality of #Ukip is well documented, even including theft, contempt of court, burglary, fraud, false witness, abuse of office etc. etc. yet never do their cronies in the #police#cps#OLAF etc. take appropriate action – thus colluding in the crimes!
Trial of South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay over election expenses is delayed
The crown court trial of South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay and two former aides on charges relating to false election expenses declarations has been delayed.
Mr Mackinlay, 50, election agent Nathan Gray, 28, and party activist Marion Little, 62, were each been charged with offences under the Representation of the People Act 1983.
Mr Mackinlay faced two charges, Mr Gray one charge and Ms Little three counts.
All three pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing.
The trial was due to begin at Southwark Crown Court today (May 14) but has been delayed for legal reasons.
A new date has not been set so far.
The accusations relate to a Channel 4 investigation which questioned the local election spend during the Conservative campaign in 2015.
Mr Mackinlay won the South Thanet seat, beating former UKIP leader Nigel Farage into second place, with a majority of almost 3,000 in 2015.
He increased that majority when he retained the seat in the June snap election with 25,262 votes ahead of Labour’s Raushan Ara who received 18,875 votes.

you may remenber the untrustworthy scoundrel Paul Nuttall who Nigel Farage put in place as leader of Ukip, presumably to destroy it. It was clear that Paul Nuttall was a dishonest and corrupt little oike from many years ago – he was proven to have told so many lies that you will note some wag displayed him as having been in The Bayeux Tapestry, he had dishonestly claimed he was a Professor, had been a professional footballer, was at the Hillsboro tragedy, had been with close friend who had died, had a PHd, Had been to Universities he hadn’t was a lecturer at University, lived in constituencied which he didn’t, lived in an apartment he found in an estate agents window etc. etc. etc.
Finally after this blog had exposed him and he became exposed by the media and the butt of jokes around the internet and had led Ukip to total catastrohpy in an election he was forced to resign as leader – he lacked the integrity even to resign his seat as he no doubt enjoyed the level of income he could never expect to actually earn in the real world.
Still he and his cronies befoul the British body politic!
Paul Nuttall is no longer UKIP leader but is still an MEP on £80k per year. His voting record though since the Brexit vote is the 4th worst in the EU (42%). He wasn’t in Brussels on Monday but was there (until 2pm) Tuesday where he told me “I won Brexit…I’m worth every penny.”
Fellow #NorthWest#MEP#Louise_Bours hasn’t spoken in @Europarl_EN since Feb 2016! Minimal activity as an elected rep, yet she employs FIVE full time members of staff. What are these people doing on her behalf, apart from keeping their seats warm?
Whether she fails to attend because the odious liar #Paul_Nuttall effectively gave her the #MEP job or out of embarrassment at her association with the creepy little con man is hard to tell.

IN MEMORIAM: Mark Fitzgeorge-Parker aka Mark Daniel Born 1942 Died 03-May-2014 Mark sadly died in Cheltenham of pneumonia aged 72
.
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
.
Mark Fitzgeorge-Parker who used the nom de plume Mark Daniel was born 1942
he sadly died early in the morning on Saturday 03-May-2014, in Cheltenham of pneumonia, aged 72.
I was saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mark who I first met in 2005 when he phoned me up and asked if I would permit him to buy me lunch in Chepstow as he was researching a book on UKIP for Roger Knapman:
who was at that time the leader of UKIP.
Subsequently we spoke in detail, often several times a week and asked to be on my mailing list, whilst he researched his book.
Mark was an interesting and well informed character and I soon learned from him of his Ampleforth & Cambridge education and the background and details of his earlier life and career. He made no effort to disguise any part of his colourful life, be that prison for passing dud cheques or being sued by his Father!
In 2005, shortly before the election, he published his book ‘Cranks & Gadflies, The Story of UKIP’, which is still thwe best and most accurate history and exposee of UKIP to that date. I well recall at the time Roger proclaimed his support for the book however I well remember Nigel Farage’s reticence to promote the book as he felt it was a little too accurate and comprehensive, perhaps as comment6ators said ‘warts and all’. Sadly no better nor more accurate book has been written about UKIP.
It is notable that despite Nigel’s reticence the book soon sold out and was very readable such that Mark was subsequently commissioned by Nigel Farage to write the two books about him, Mark was sufficiently competent a writer to write to a brief and be able to put a slant on a book to flatter and promote his client!
The quote which was added was a comment made by Nigel farage’s long term associate the anti Islamic extremist and liar who inclines to incite racial hatred, Gerard Batten a UKIP MEP.
Mark’s second book promoting Farage was ‘Flying Free’ published in 2011.
In keeping with Mark’s willingness to publish warts and all when unrestrained the following review of his book on UKIP tells much of his history and personality:
‘A party of idiots, paranoiacs, whores and vagabonds’
Alexander Waugh reviews Cranks and Gadflies: the Story of UKIP by Mark Daniel.
Isn’t it odd how people who group together under the banner of a shared opinion always seem to disagree more violently among themselves than with their declared enemies? It has always been the case. Take, for example, the early Christians. According to the ancient record of Celsus, written in about 178 AD: “Christians utterly detest each other, they slander each other constantly with the vilest forms of abuse… Each sect fills the head of its own with deceitful nonsense and makes perfect little pigs of those it wins over to its side.” And so it is with UKIP – the United Kingdom Independence Party – whose founding purpose (to extricate Britain from the European Union) has been subsumed, in the 12 short years since its formation, by such a torrent of plotting, denouncing, suing, counter-suing, shrieking, back-stabbing and cussing that one wonders how many of its members have retained any memory of why they signed up with the party in the first place. At a recent National Executive Council meeting one member became so livid with rage that he suffered a heart attack and died. And what about the time when such an almighty row broke out over who should be UKIP’s leader that the party was rent in twain and, for a while, two defiant UKIPs ran simultaneously out of two separate offices ? In his absorbing history of the party, Mark Daniel appears to relish each scandal as it arises, gleefully relating how UKIP’s founder drained the party’s coffers to defend himself against accusations of slander and how a South East MEP stood for election in 2004 without mentioning that he was facing charges of housing benefit fraud (which remain subjudice and he denies fiercely). Daniel also reveals how the party was infiltrated by the BNP activist, Mark Deavin; how UKIP’s Scottish organiser wrote to the newspapers declaring that the Nazi holocaust was grossly exaggerated; and he describes, with seeming glee, a party membership that is comprised of “idiots, paranoiacs and conspiracy theorists… freelance artists… traders, whores and vagabonds”. From the outset, Daniel declares: “I have never been a party member.” It might easily be assumed from this that he is a disaffected party apparatchik whose sole purpose is to discredit UKIP in such a way that nobody ever votes for it again. But a couple of seconds of Google espionage reveals that Mark Daniel is in fact a nom de plume for Mark Fitzgeorge-Parker – who stood as a UKIP candidate in Exeter at this year’s General Election, ending in sixth place with 3.37 per cent of the vote. A further scrimmage into the Fitzgeorge-Parker mystery reveals that the author enjoys something of a maverick past himself. Having been imprisoned as a young man for issuing duff cheques and pilfering precious books from Cambridge University libraries he used the Daniel pseudonym for a fictionalised account of his jail experiences. After his release, he found himself once again up in court on charges of libel and, in a parallel action, was sued by his own father for breach of copyright. Perhaps none of this would be relevant had Daniel not chosen to call his book Cranks and Gadflies, a phrase drawn directly from Michael Howard’s intended slur on the UKIP membership, or if Nigel Farage, UKIP’s second-in-command, had not stood before the European Parliament denouncing individual members of José Barrosa’s Commission as ex-crooks, ex-communists and liars. Daniel’s purpose in this warts-and-all exposé is not then, as far as I can tell, to discredit UKIP but, on the contrary, to make it seem like a quaintly attractive collective of “real people”. “Don’t mind me, I’m mad,” folks used to say to endear themselves to their school friends. That ploy didn’t work then and is unlikely to work for UKIP now. And if Daniel’s high-risk public relations experiment backfires it will cost the cranks and gadflies dearly.
A close friend of Mark’s, Hannah Wright, said:
“He was just so intelligent and had a vast knowledge. He was a person that people would turn to for help and he would do anything for anyone.
“He had a great interaction with people and he was a real showman. But he was a complicated man and had a private side and could be reclusive at times.
“He was very kind and generous, but he could also be a difficult man, cantankerous and rude at times, but people were never offended.
“He was very good at reading people and was a truly gifted man.
“As one neighbour put it, he was often outrageous, but generally right”.
“He was passionate about so many things in Cheltenham – with one of them being that the town’s Jazz Festival was too quiet and should be louder.
“He had a massive impact on people’s lives and will be missed.”
I must say I found Mark to have all of these attributes and characteristics and thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with him and was flattered by the amount he used my then frequent eMails and my blogging as a source for his research, as of course did both media and UKIP leadership alike.
Mark in his younger days had been a keen fisherman and surfer and had inheristed his fathert’s love or art and also his father’s interest in horses, having been competitive steeplechased.
Tim Fitzgeorge-Parker was well known as a character and author particularly in the horse racing world.
Mark having lived in Italy, Ireland and France was fluent in both French and Italian and during my dealings with him was taking trips on costal cruisers in Norway and other Scandinavian ports as part of his work whilst living in Exeter as a regular columnist for The Western Morning News. Not only had he written 1,000s of columns for a variety of media but had published some 41 books.
In 2011 Mark moved to Cheltenham to live closer to his 20 year old son Kit.
Having moved to Montpellier in Cheltenham he threw himself, with his notable enthusiasm and commitment to people into life in Cheltenham and last year stood in the Gloucester County Council election for Lansdown and Park and this year was standing for a seat on Cheltenham Borough Council in Charlton Park ward. He had also stood for UKIP in the past when in Exeter.
An impressive intellect and sound knowlege in many fields will make the death of Mark a loss to many – the world is less colourful for his departure.
My condolences to his family and those whose lives he had touched.
