Firstly some clarification:

Trevor Colman MEP:
has resigned from The EFD and rejected the leadership of Nigel Farage MEP EFD Leader.

He is currently actively campaigning against membership of The EU, actively campaigning for a Petition for a Referendum and working in support of Nikki Sinclaire’s initiative, as shown in The Sun advert yesterday see: CLICK HERE

He has been actively campaigning against The EU’s efforts to form Pan EU Political Parties to destroy Patriotic National Parties and is on record stating that if UKIP votes for membership of a PEPP he will personally resign from UKIP and sit as an Independent MEP.

Mike Nattrass MEP:

He has resigned from The EFD and rejected the leadership of Nigel Farage MEP EFD Leader. He is currently actively campaigning against membership of The EU, actively campaigning for a Petition for a Referendum and working in support of Nikki Sinclaire’s initiative, as shown in The Sun advert yesterday see: CLICK HERE

He has been actively campaigning against HS2 rail line with Nikki Sinclaire and also with Nikki Sinclaire has campaigned for UK Farmers on the issue of Battery Hens and other issues which subsequently the NFU MEP Stuart Agnew tried to get involved in. Agnew however undermined his position by his blatant fraud against the tax payers and his unlawful money laundering and is still under investigation by OLAF we understand.

I presume like last year he has repaired to his villa in portugal some time ago and is likely to remain there until the EU reconvenes in mid September – whether like last year he will then take a protracted holiday in The Phillipines I know not (You may recall he tried to blame The Sunday Times for his failure to gain leadership of UKIP, when it was clear The Times article may have harmed him as it published the facts regarding his investigation by OLAF at the time, but that he was still on holiday for part of the election campaign was unarguably consequential in his failure.)

Marta Andreasen:
A fraud and a liar who presents herself as a whistle blower and a past Chief Accountant of The EU – she is neither and never was see the Judgement against her showing her invented ‘back story’ to be a pack of 1/2 truths and outright lies CLICK HERE

Her election to MEP was based upon dishonesty and fraud and founded on lies in which Nigel Farage, and his squalid group of leadership parasites colluded.

Eventually the worm turned! Marta Andreasen wanting control of her 400 budget money and with a view to getting herself re-elected by any means (as is her wont) rounded on Nigel Farage calling for his resignation and highlighting how abysmally UKIP had done under his incompetent leadership.

It was announced and made clear in a series of very public ‘e’Mails from the crassly un professional leadership team of UKIP she had the whip withdrawn however Andreasen continues to sit with the extremist EFD Group but now has control of her own £76,000 a year 400 budget and her own staff which formerly were controlled by Farage and was seemingly unaccounted!

Nikki Sinclaire:

She is currently actively campaigning against membership of The EU, actively campaigning for a Petition for a Referendum and working with her team and others, as shown in The Sun advert yesterday see: CLICK HERE

Nikki Sinclaire has been outspoken on Human Rights and has taken a strong line against prejudice against certain sectors by use of the corrupt concept of positive descrimination. Her position with regard to equal standards of planning including building in green Belt areas has attracted a great deal of positive publicity particularly with regard to the unlawful developement of Green Belt land in Meridan by itinerants!

Since leaving The EFD and being lied about in order to suspend her as an MEP for UKIP – although she has continued her membership her Independent status seperated from the extremist EFD Group and the BNP in blazers chavery of UKIP the media has taken her far more seriously and she is now one of the most quoted UK MEPs and has many TV and press appearances and articles of consequence and gravitas – more in fact than the rest of Farage’s shrinking followers.

The lies and descrimination by Farage, Bloom and UKIP found them before the Courts where the Court ruled against them finding them Guilty in Sinclaire’s favour – this led to UKIP being forced to publish an apology to delay finding themselves before The High Court with a substantial damages claim to pay – meanwhile the clearly inept Steve Crowther is trying to come up with some sort of deal to bring Sinclaire back into UKIP as an MEP.

The longer Crowther fails the more obvious it becomes that UKIP need Sinclaire and her political experience and her ability to attract consequential publicity far more than she needs the froth and bickering and sordid behaviour of UKIP and its squalid publicity.
Here is a letter sent today to a UKIP supporter who had written to me for clarification of a couple of details on my blogs. I felt perhaps many might be asking ‘themselves’ similar questions and therefore it might help the many who read these blogs. to read the response.

By all means contact me if I can help you to clean-up UKIP and make it a force for good rather than a vicious squabbling and evil force for greed. The BNP in blazers using marginally more sophisticated techniques of bullying and lies to forward their better concealed racism, anti homosexuality, gender inequality and chavery, anti Judaism and self serving self enrichment at the expense of my Country.

I have always said I am happy to be cross examined on any of the details and facts I have presented over the many years that I have supported the principles that were the core of UKIP. I have offered to attend any formal or informal public meeting to address the facts and dispel the lies of those who have set out to protect their lies and self aggrandisement with hysterical and unsustainable fantasies about me (Just look on the internet and track down the weapons grade nutters desperate to keep their scams afloat by trying to defame me! Frankly one need only note their anonimity and obsessions to see straight through their self serving stories!).

Unlike the leadership of UKIP and their hirelings, lackeys and salaried praise singers.

Or for that matter if you have any information that may help clean-up UKIP to make it electable by informed people of ethics and morality rather than just the ill informed and disenchanted BNP supporters or disenfranchised Tory voters.

I have supported UKIP principles for many years now, it is just sad that they have increasingly lost sight of what ‘principles’ are and have become part of the problem with no part in the solution, as they squabble and berate to keep the snouts of their leadership claque enriched with their positions at the troughs on the gravy train feeding off the bribes and largesse of The EU.

They are considered an irrelevancy at best and an embarrassing joke by most of the media and have done a huge amount to harm themselves by letting people like Mark Croucher, Annabelle Fuller, Gawain Towler, Adrian Lithgow and the like act as their press spokesmen as they are largely held in contempt and are low lifes and proven liars as the media probably know better than most!

However one feels about UKIP you know as well as the media they have absolutely no one of any political competence and typical was the statement in their manifesto that they supported HS2 and then AFTER the consultation period was over and the public enquiry finished to see UKIP press idiots put out a press release band wagon jumping by Nigel Farage & Paul Nuttall who have been conspicuous by their silence yet now claim to oppose the HS2 is a measure of their risible incompetence.

Just as with Nigel Farage’s press release berating EFD members for supporting Andres Breivik and demanding an appology or he would suspend UKIP’s membership of The EFD Group.

We all knew this was just noise, he only threatened to suspend UKIP where if he had ANY principles and morality he would have shut the vile little group – and so it was proven – Mario Borghezio was suspended from The EFD and Francesco Speroni made no comment on his support – no apology has been forrthcoming and for all his big words and bluster Farage has done nothing beyond alienate his own better informed members.

It is all too clear that even though the EFD Group is steadily disintegrating with barely enough to members to meet their legal requirements there is no chance of risking losing the unaccountable income stream and bribes UKIP MEPs enrich themselves from, particularly Farage as they scrabble to find members to join their racist, xenophobic, pro EU membership, anti Jewish, holocaust denying, anti homosexual Pan EU band of BNP in Blazers that form the extremist EFD Group Farage leads.

With the Worcester City FC first team

A local politician has taken unprecedented steps to support all of her local non-Premier League teams in the 2011/2012 season.

Independent MEP Nikki Sinclaire has taken up sponsorship deals with 13 league and non-league football teams in her constituency, from the Championship to the Blue Square North, in a bid to back league football across the region.

As a huge football fan, Nikki has decided to show her support to the teams in her constituency and has arranged a number of sponsorship deals which will cement her as a politician who is fully behind local football.

One player from each of the teams will now be sponsored by Nikki Sinclaire for the season, and Nikki and her team are hoping that further links can be formed with the clubs throughout the season. Other planned sponsorship deals include match day sponsorships and match ball sponsorships.

Nikki will use some of the corporate benefits of the sponsorship packages to raise money for charity.

Since being elected as one of six MEP’s for the West Midlands region in 2009, Nikki Sinclaire has campaigned on a number of local issues including jobs, training, protection of greenbelt land and preservation of local communities.

Nikki Sinclaire is delighted to be working with the various local clubs and said “Football is one of the bedrocks of our community and engages people of all ages. I think this is a worthwhile endeavour and wish all the West Midlands clubs success for the forthcoming season”.

Well there are 10 quick reasons to wonder whose side The Farage Party is on!

I’m sure you can think of many other reasons why UKIP has been such an abysmal failure in British domestic politics – after 18 years they have under 30 elected seats out of some 19,500 available. One need only glance at the list of folk who have been driven out of the party to realise only the dross remain CLICK HERE

Why has Farage lied and abused Nikki Sinclaire MEP and lied about her on TV – was it because she is actually doing something to try to get Britain out of The EU – rather than swanning around on freebies like Stuart Agnew and Gerard Batten linking UKIP yet closer to The EFD CLICK HERE when Farage has already been forced to back down over his demand for an apology from Francesco Speroni MEP & Mario Borghezio MEP of The EFD for their support of Anders Breivik CLICK HERE for general info. I understand shortly Nikki Sinclaire MEP will be SHOWING she has well over 100,000 signatures already for her Petition for a Referendum which UKIP Leadership have actively tried to talk down and rubbish – as I recal UKIP spent over £250,000 of tax payers money under the guidance of Farage, David Lott and Mark Croucher organising a petition – The money was NEVER accounted, the petition was never presented and it was an abysmal failure with a rumoured signature list of about 14,000 which were then contacted to try to tap them up for money via Ashford where 85% + of the money was spiritted away unaccounted NEVER REACHING UKIP.

Strange that during that period Nigel Farage banked £1/4M off shore in The Isle of Man under ‘Farage Educational Trust’, Mark Croucher opened two pubs where due to his incompetence he failed and was forced to close and David Lott relocated to France citing tax savings!

But where was their achievement as a petition – yet they desperately attack Nikki Sinclaire for her success!

One really does have to wonder whose side UKIP are on!

UKIP: Nikki Sinclaire on the Referendum Campaign

Nikki’s battle to get Britain out of the EU continues to go from strength to strength. She has appeared on radio, TV and in the papers taking about her referendum campaign.

It came as no surprise to hear that Farage was extremly unhappy with this – his fragile ego won’t allow anyone to upstage him – and so sought to spike her guns by urging UKIPPERS to back the Daily Express Petition instead.

From the official UKIP website.

UKIP has thrown its weight behind the Daily Express ePetition calling for a referendum on the EU, with just 100,000 names needed before the Government considers a debate in Parliament on the issue.

UKIP Leader Nigel Farage urged all Party members and supporters to add their names to the ePetition as soon as possible.

End of quote.

It seems that the Farage Fan Club don’t even know why Nikki Sinclaire is still actively campaigning for more signatures having obtained the 100,000 required – all the more the merrier. I understand that initial dates for delivery of the signatures have already been discussed with Downing Street.

This during a period when despite Nikki Sinclaire agreeing not to take UKIP, Farage & Bloom to the High Court she has set aside her advantage with the Guilty verdict against UKIP and temporarily accepted the published apology from The Party whilst they try to negotiate a settlement.

Just how low can UKIP sink under Farage’s leadership and the crass bunch of amateurs and parasites he has gathered around him to make him look competent?

Campaign for an EU Referendum

Interestingly having put a large amount of her own money into the campaign we notice that Nikki Sinclaire has around 85,000 signatures and some of these have already been delivered under Parliamentary rules as the firts part of the petition to The Speaker’s Chair.

Others have copied her and even copied the name to try to gain cudos from her achievements and they have been made whilst under almost constant attack from The EU in the form of their agents in EUkip – who have defamed her, lied about her and eventually after being subject to a Guilty verdict in The Courts were forced to publicly apologise to stave off costly High Court Action for the time being – even then these supporters of the Gravy Train and their own snouts in the trough lack the ethics or the morality not to continue their childish antics.

May I congratulate Mike Nattrass, trevor Colman, Kate Hoey, Austin Mitchell, Richard Sheppard, Phillip Hollobone, David Bannerman and many other cross party members for their efforts and support of this campaign for a referendum which belatedly Dan Hannan and other friends of the EU such as Bob crow and his ilk plus many feeding at the troughs have decided to copy to try to help the EU and their income stream by trying to sabotage the campaign just as they tried with The Peoples’ Pledge.

Farcical wasn’t it to watch a gaggle of useless politicians so upset that they were not trusted to run The Peoples’ Pledge that they went off in a huff to try to help the EU by copying it.

It is good to see an MEP standing their ground against a Tory Council and showing up their complete ineptitude as here in discussion with Mike Bird the leader of Walsall Council.

Furthermore it is good to see an MEP actually doing what they were elected to do rather than merely riding the gravy train with their snout buried in the EU’s troughs!

• Bad blood in the Midlands where the scary 6ft4in tall independent MEP Nikki Sinclaire is going to war with Walsall borough council. The Tory-led authority has refused to let the former Ukipian park her mobile surgery/referendum campaign battlebus in the town square. It says she does not qualify for a licence because her activities don’t reach the standard of a public service. An affront against democracy, says combative Nikki. You are hindering me from being able to meet with my constituents. “I travel all over the constituency, which is one of the biggest, and Walsall is the only council to refuse me permission. I think the people are with me on this. I appeared on the radio with the leader of the council, Mike Bird, and one caller called him a little Hitler.” This will be a dirty fight, it seems.

I must admit neither do I, nor have I ever found Nikki Sinclaire MEP scary whatever her height but I do find a black man who writes for The Guardian on matters such as racism, prejudice, equality and the like scary when they make it quite so clear that they have absoluterly no understanding of the subject they write about and use pejorative and prejudicial language in their reports.

Is this a case of because he is black he can be pejorative and get away with it? I do feel that he would be the first one screaming for blood if someone pejoratively called him a nigger yet he seems to find it acceptable to call someone ‘scary’ BECAUSE as a woman they are considerably taller than him.

I have never in my life called someone a ‘nigger’, but then again I have never called a woman over 6 foot scary – I clearly am not as prejudiced or mean spirited as The Guardian or its staff seeking out cheap shots they can get away with and trying to pass them off as Journalism!

Nigel Farage, Leader of UKIP, today contacted Francesco Speroni, co-president of The Europe of Freedom and Democracy (EFD), a group in the European Parliament, to demand an immediate retraction and apology following his remarks and those of his fellow Northern League MEP Mario Borghezio.

The comments, both made in recent radio interviews, were in response to the tragedy in Norway where seventy-six people were killed by Anders Behring Breivik. If no retraction is forthcoming then UKIP will suspend its membership of the EFD group in which it sits alongside the Italian political party.

Borghezio, described the ideas of Breivik as “good” and “excellent”. Speroni has now said he believed Borghezio’s comments to be “in support of Western civilisation”. UKIP totally disassociates itself from the remarks of Borghezio and Speroni. The Northern League is due to meet tomorrow (Friday) to discuss the issue. In the meantime Northern League minister, Roberto Calderoli has condemned Borghezio’s remarks.

Nigel Farage said: “I find Breivik’s actions and idealogy of hatred totally repugnant. Anybody who would praise the political ideology of this mass murderer is morally and politically misguided. Consequently I have written to the leadership of the Northern League party to demand an immediate full retraction and apology. If my request is not met, then we will suspend our membership of the EFD group.”

Astonishingly even now UKIP leadership & its parasites JUST DON’T GET IT!

Read their statement which for all its belated bluster merely threatens to ‘SUSPEND’ its membership of the vile EFD Group which particularly My blogs and Junius have highlighted ever since before membership of the pro EU membership, anti Jewish, racist, xenophobic, anti homosexual group was first mooted have denounced as utterly untenable as partners for a British Patriotic Organisation of any description even if it did personally enrich some of its leadership and their sordid parasites.

We note that UKIP have not demanded the removal of the vile creatures who offered ANY kind of support to Anders Breivik – that his intellectual premises were far from original and some may have made sense is absolutely no grounds for UKIP leadership to remain in association with these vile creatures whilst hypocritically denouncing The BNP odious as they are and UKFirstParty for having rightly challenged UKIP’s corruption! However much UKIP leadership may have profited from membership of the EFD or any other PEPP.

It is noted that this faux morality was not only belated and completely inadequate but clearly self serving – perhaps UKIP would care to explain their ethical motivation which caused Farage to denounce the outrageous comments of Mario Borghezio and his allies pertinent to Anders Breivik whilst choosing to ignore the statement from the same source that North African Immigrants should be shot – Is this UKIP’s inate racism such that it is OK to shoot blackmen but not Norwegians or is it just yet another example of UKIP’s self serving corruption?

It may well be expedient for UKIP to note some of the very sound points made on this issue on their own in house forum where Rob McWhirter is not alone in praise of Nikki Sinclaire’s Press Comments long before Farage realised this was one offense too many and he had no choice but to mumble a somewhat mealie mouthed denunciation even though it will further damage his inciome and control through the 400 Account (formerly 4000 Account) and the EU budget for group international travel scams.

Any help you can give will help as not only does it keep the issue of The EU in the forefront of public minds but also it ensures we can move closer to a Referendum on In/Out of the EU.

Obtaining 100,000 signatures is no guarantee of a referendum but it will clearly ascertain if the co-alition government is honourable or deceitful as it was they who stated that 100,000 signatures would ensure a full debate in Parliament and it shows what the people of Britain want.

Will the Politicians act in what the people of Britain consider their own best interests and their fundamental human right of Self Determination or will our Politicians continue to betray us and our Country for their personal gain!

Press Statement by Nikki Sinclaire MEP

On the atrocities in Norway, and the response of the Lega Nord MEP Mario Borghezio

My heart goes out to the victims of the atrocities that took place in Norway last week, and to their families. There can be no excuses, no justifications, this was nothing but an act of pure and unmitigated evil.

In protest against violent right-wing extremism, I resigned from UKIP’s political group in the European Parliament, the Europe of Freedom & Democracy (EFD). I particularly cited the racism and homophobia prevelant in the Italian Lega Nord. As a result of my stand, I had the UKIP party whip withdrawn by the party leadership.

In the wake of this vile mass murder, one of those Lega Nord MEPs I particularly objected to, Mario Borghezio, a man with at least two convictions for racially motivated violence, including an assualt on a child, has gone on record as supporting the murderer Breivik. He stated that “One hundred per cent of Breivik’s ideas are good, in some cases extremely good. The positions of Breivik reflect the views of those movements across Europe which are winning elections.”

I now call upon UKIP MEPs to distance themselves from this objectionable political group, of which Lega Nord is not the only party to contain members with racial convictions. As 76 families mourn their loved ones, now is the moment for UKIP MEPs to take stock, and act on their conscience, rather than remain in a political group with such extremists, purely on the grounds that they can earn more money by doing so.

Notes to Editors: Nikki Sinclaire was elected as a UKIP MEP in June 2009. She sits on the parliament’s Human Rights Committee.

In January 2010 she resigned from the EFD group after her protests about far-right extremist elements were ignored by the party leadership.

Subsequently, Mike Nattrass, a UKIP MEP in his second term resigned from the EFD group for the same reasons as Miss Sinclaire.

More recently, Trevor Colman, also a UKIP MEP serving his second term resigned from the EFD group.

In 1993, Mario Borghezio was ordered to pay a fine of 750,000 lire following a violent assault on a Moroccan child in 1991. He appeared to justify this by alleging that the child was an illegal immigrant.

In July 2005, Mario Borghezio was found guilty of arson, having set fire to the belongings of some immigrants while they were sleeping under a bridge in Turin during a vigilante raid. For this he was sentenced to two months and twenty days imprisonment, which he avoided by paying a fine.

In September 2007, Mario Borghezio was arrested by Belgian police during an unauthorised anti-Islamic demonstration in Brussels.

Italy MEP backs ideas of Norway killer Breivik

An Italian MEP has described the ideas of Norway’s self-confessed mass killer, Anders Behring Breivik, as “good” and in some cases “excellent”.

Mario Borghezio, who belongs to the Northern League party, condemned Mr Breivik’s violence, but backed his stance against Islam.

The Northern League is a partner in PM Silvio Berlusconi’s government.

Mr Borghezio’s comments in a radio interview sparked outrage, with opposition calls for the MEP to resign.

Mr Breivik’s justification for killing 76 people was that he wanted to inflict maximum damage on Norway’s governing Labour Party because of its failure to clamp down on immigration.

“Some of the ideas he expressed are good, barring the violence. Some of them are great,” Mario Borghezio told Il Sole-24 Ore radio station.

He agreed with Mr Breivik’s “opposition to Islam and his explicit accusation that Europe has surrendered before putting up a fight against its Islamicisation”.

‘No excuses, no justifications’

The Northern League is an avowedly anti-immigration, regionalist Italian political party, key to the governing coalition, and known for its anti-Islamic rhetoric.

The controversy sparked swift reaction from fellow MEPs.

“My heart goes out to the victims of the atrocities that took place in Norway last week, and to their families. There can be no excuses, no justifications. This was nothing but an act of pure and unmitigated evil,” said Nikki Sinclaire.

Ms Sinclaire resigned last year from the European Parliament umbrella group, Europe of Freedom & Democracy (EFD), which included her UK Independence Party, as well as Italy’s Northern League. She cited the racism of Northern League members in making her decision.

“Mr Borghezio’s reported comments are shocking and, if accurately reported, reprehensible. They are in no way reflective of UKIP’s position or that of the EFD Group,” said a UKIP spokesman.

‘Create monsters’

But Mr Borghezio is not the only right-wing politician to express sympathy with the actions of Anders Behring Breivik.

A member of France’s far-right National Front party has been suspended after writing a defence of the Norwegian attacker on his blog.

Jacques Coutela described Mr Breivik as “the main defender of the West”, comparing him to Charles Martel, a seventh century leader who halted Islamic expansion in western Europe.

“The reason for the Norway terror attacks: fighting the Muslim invasion, that’s what people don’t want you to know”, read the post.

Mr Coutela stood as a National Front candidate in local elections in March.

“He was suspended today pending a party disciplinary committee,” said Steeve Briois, the Front’s general secretary.

Meanwhile, the leader of the English Defence League (EDL), Stephen Lennon, said the mass killing in Norway was a wake-up call.

“What happened in Oslo shows how desperate some people are becoming in Europe,” said Mr Lennon, who was convicted earlier this week of leading a brawl involving 100 football fans.

“It’s a ticking time bomb. If they don’t give that frustration and anger a platform as such and a voice – and a way of getting emotion out in a democratic way – it will create monsters like this lunatic.”

The EDL is also known for its strong stance against immigration.

Mr Breivik has posted admiring comments online about the EDL.

The League leadership is checking his claims to have contacts among its members.

another good article addressing the more serious aspects of The EU and its obvious failure.

It is patently obvious that The EU’s unelected leadership to dupe everyone into believing it is actually achieving something of value is in fact merely squandering a huge amount of OUR money extorted via taxation and buying a sordid form of Virtual Reality apparent growth which is being passed off as an achievement.

Clearly this is not an achievement of any value whatsoever it is just a con extending the area over which it is failing, to give a semblance of achievement, whilst bribing the politicians of adjoining areas with our money to justify their actions!

EU Enlargement: The Huge Pre-Accession Costs.

Nikki Sinclaire MEP argues that the pre-accession costs of Turkey, Croatia and Serbia means that EU is simply giving billions away in the hope of buying friendship and stability.

“There are certain factions amongst the EU political elite that are unlikely ever to accept Turkish accession. Whilst there certainly are social and economic matters that are problematic, the same could be said of any of the recent new member states.

In his 2004 report urging early accession of Bulgaria, which failed to meet certain criteria, Conservative MEP Geoffrey Van Orden seemed to suggest that the interests of the EU were best served by a prompt accession, and that the problems might therefore be overlooked.

So why is Turkey different? Of course, there is the matter of the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus, but Turkey would not be the only state to join the EU with unresolved border issues – Croatia has long standing disputes with Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Montenegro and yet that country is set for accession in July 2013. So are there other issues?

Personally, I don’t want to see any further expansion of the EU, but I don’t like to see racism being hidden behind so-called economic or social arguments. Turkey is a rising power, and its exclusion from the EU has led it to emerge as one of three main poles of power in Europe, the other two being Russia and the EU.

It is actually a sign of the EU’s impotence in foreign affairs that a bloc of 27 nations is unable to dominate its own political space.

We now live not only in a multi-polar world, but in a multi-polar Europe. As a result of Turkey’s increasing importance in its own right, support amongst the Turkish population for EU membership has almost halved to just 38%. €4.33 billion, a huge amount of money, has been spent by the EU on Turkey’s pre-accession preparations.

To exactly what end is this being spent? Will Turkey ever join the EU?

In 2007, Nicolas Sarkozy stated that “Enlarging Europe with no limit risks destroying European political union, and that I do not accept…I want to say that Europe must give itself borders, that not all countries have a vocation to become members of Europe, beginning with Turkey which has no place inside the European Union.”

Is Sarkozy really opposed to EU expansion as his words seem to suggest, or is he just opposed to Turkey?

Given its geopolitically strategic position, Turkey would be well advised to lean east, which it will probably do as soon as the EU stops giving it handouts. This would weaken the EU’s already vulnerable position regarding security of energy supply, and would greatly increase Russian domination in this area.

Croatia emerged from its post-conflict mode in 2000, the vital tourist sector is booming, and its institutions and civil society are being rebuilt, which explains the relatively modest sum of €748 million being spent on pre-accession arrangements over 4 years.

However, Croatia is recovering on its own, and looks to be the success story of its region. Ironically, whilst Croatia recovers, economic problems within the Eurozone have caused public support for EU accession to wane.

Accession negotiations with Serbia have yet to be opened, but the country is in receipt of considerable EU largesse; €1.9 billion, to be precise. Serbia has a larger population than Croatia – 7.3 million – a figure which includes the highest refugee population in Europe.

The Serbian economy is also performing well; indeed growth has at times been fractionally higher than that of Croatia.

There remain problems over Serbia’s relationship with Kosovo, but President Barosso has declared that the failure of Belgrade to recognise Kosovo is not a barrier to EU accession. Russia has been heavily investing in Serbia’s energy infrastructure – demand for energy is growing in Serbia.

Cynics might say that Russia is spending its money wisely, and will receive good dividends, both politically and economically, on its investment. The EU, on the other hand, is simply giving billions away in the hope of buying friendship and stability.”
