UKIP: Nikki Sinclaire Press Release

Press Release – 22 Feb 2011

The EU has no money – Its Official!

In response to a formal question, the European Commission has admitted that it has “No financial reserves…”. Nikki Sinclaire, independent MEP for the West Midlands, was shocked by the revelation.

“The Commission has actually admitted to me that neither it, nor the other EU institutions, have any financial reserves, and are effectively living from hand to mouth. In the event of member states failing to make their contributions on time, the EU institutions could find themselves unable to meet their considerable financial commitments.”

“This is in the context of an economic crisis, where certain member states are actually being bailed out by the EU, and with others looking likely to follow suit” she said. “Belgium, for example, is the home of the EU institutions, and its national debt has risen to 100% of GDP. It is effectively a bankrupt nation.”

Article 12 of the Council Regulation 1150/2000, however, allows for the Commission to spend money borrowed against future income. “It is a really perverse business plan that depends on being able to borrow from bankrupts”, said Nikki.

Nikki supports British cheeses in Strasbourg

Nikki Sinclaire MEP today gave her support to the £5.6 Billion British cheese industry in Strasbourg.

In 2009 the Sunday Telegraph reported that the UK imported 136,938 tonnes of cheddar the previous year , mostly from Latvia– a record amount equivalent to about half a billion 250g packs.

This is why Nikki  strongly supports the British Cheese Board’s “Check Your Cheddar” campaign, urgeing the British public to check the label of supermarket Cheddar to see where the cheese came from.If it didn’t say it was British then the odds were that it wasn’t!

In the UK we have 700 differently namedb chesses that are packed with essential vitimins such as B12 that help produce red blood cells.

It is astonishing how much more one can do as an Independent UKIP MEP not befouled by membership of the sordid EFD!

Interestingly you get £40K or so to spend on promotion and use of EU Parliamentary staff rather than a leader who controls ALL the staff and seems not to account for the £76K per MEP who is a member of his group.

It also means UKIP can if it wishes use its 6000 account money rather than it seemingly being used to bribe other members of The EFD to stay in the Group.

With about 30 members of The EFD where are the accounts for the £2,280,000 a year 4000 account?

Did YOU know an MEP is now costed at £2.59 Million a year? Can YOU name an MEP in UKIP YOU believe is worth £49K a week? Can you name ANY Politician worth that?

Did YOU know that in Strasbourg weeks there is no official business on Fridays so many MEPs stay in Strasbourg for the night life and secretaries on a Thursday night and sign IN (out) on the Friday trousering £280+ and until the next time (a month later) the lighting and heating is left on and the fleets of cars just sit idle and the building is staffed.

JUST SO STRASBOURG CAN CON THE TAX PAYERS OF THE EU?

What EXACTLY do UKIP MEPs do for their £50K a week?

Why have only Sinclaire & Nattrass published transparent accounts?

Do YOU believe the remaining UKIP EFD members are worth £1/2 a Million a WEEK?

Do YOU believe they deserve support?

Do YOU believe they are better or worse than the rest of the political pond life?

North Africa’s first revolution very fragile

Author: Nikki Sinclaire MEP
13 February 2011 – Issue : 922
Three weeks after the Tunisian people ousted President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, I was delighted to attend talks in Tunis with the new interim government as part of an ad hoc parliamentary delegation.

The delegation met with Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi, the Foreign Minister, Ahmed Ounais, the Defence Minister, Abdelkrim Zbidi, and the Minister of Justice, Lazhar Karoui Chebbi. We were also able to meet with the leaders of the major political forces. We were pleased to note the decisions taken on a general amnesty, legalisation of political parties and NGOs, accession to the Statute of the International Criminal Court, and to the UN Convention against Torture.

We also held meetings with representatives of civil society, trade unions and professional associations. The importance of a strong civil society is generally considered a vital prerequisite in developing and maintaining a strong and healthy democracy.

Just as vital, is a free and independent media. After 23 years of authoritarian rule journalists in Tunisia are savouring their freedom, with many senior editors being pressured to resign in order to make way for the new order.

Our task was to ascertain how we could aid and show our support for the democratic process and to the 10 million people of Tunisia.
This revolution is the people’s revolution, and emanated from the despair that led a man, Mohamed Bouazizi, to burn himself to death on December 17th. He wasn’t a terrorist; he did not want to harm anyone else, it seems that he felt that life without the oxygen of democracy was suffocating his core being.

Events culminated on January 14th in mass protests that led President Ben Ali to flee the country and to seek refuge in Saudi Arabia after 23 years of dictatorship.

It has been dubbed the Jasmine Revolution, in Persian ´yasmin´ means ‘gift of God’, but this revolution was a mortal one, a secular revolution borne of frustration.

During our visit, other than the occasional sighting of Army trucks, barbed wire and the curfew there was actually little evidence of revolution, and the infrastructure, electricity, water, food, petrol was all functioning. The delegation encountered some demonstrations outside government offices by people who were unhappy at the speed of new legislation on for example a General Amnesty to political prisoners.
The feeling amongst Civil Society leaders is that people were concerned about the sustainability of the revolution. They felt that although the head of the old regime was removed its body is still very much in place.

The Constitution put in place in 1987 is still being adhered to and has allowed most of the old government to stay in place including the Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi. He explained his position, telling us that it would be wrong for him to desert a sinking ship. He paid tribute to the country’s youth, 35% of whom hold university degrees, extolling their patriotism and their confidence which he said would be needed in the immense task ahead.

Because of the revolution, Tunisia’s international credit rating has been downgraded; the tourism industry that accounts for 17% of foreign currency and 40% of GDP has been devastated. The Minister of Defence, Abdelkarim Zbidi went to great pains to assure us that the situation was safe for tourists.

The Prime Minister told me that EU aid given to the old regime had been used on economic reforms but evidently the people of Tunisia did not see or feel the benefit. I am calling for an investigation into where this aid went, and how it was used.

Strikes are becoming a problem, as the people tired of being exploited on low wages are keen to exercise their new found freedoms. But with any freedoms comes responsibility, economic growth must be taken one step at a time and increasing labour costs are a threat to exports and to Tunisia’s vital service industry.

The security situation in Tunisia is not critical but it remains uncertain. The Military played a pivotal role in the revolution and retains the trust of the people. I am minded of John F. Kennedy’s quote ´Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.´
The Minister of Defence, Mr Zbidi, who wants to resign his role as soon as possible, is keen to make sure the revolution is not stolen or abused during this `fragile and precarious period.´ He was critical of France, and felt that the initial reaction of Sarkozy’s government was mixed.  He was also critical of the EU saying that it was “offering a little bit to eat with more later”, and referred to the slow and uncertain response by Cathy Ashton.

Mr Zbidi hopes that Tunisia will be given enhanced status with the EU as four of the six conditions were now validated. The death penalty and women’s rights of inheritance remain contentious issues. Addressing women’s rights is very important, as enhancing women’s role in society may be seen as a counter to the ever present threat of fundamentalism: the Islamist Party is amongst the best organised of political actors.

We met with the Minister of Justice, Lazhar Karoui Chebbi who told us that “Justice was the cornerstone of civilisation” He was keen that a new image of the country be transmitted with a strong justice system that guarantees the freedom of the citizens.

There are over 2000 magistrates in Tunisia, 1800 practising generally with 200 working on the Court of accounts or upper courts, and it is admitted that problems of corruption in the judicial system need to be addressed.

There can be no doubt that 23 years of Ben Ali’s regime will have an effect on future elections. However, in my opinion it would be impractical to wait for a new constitution to be formed before having full elections. Tunisia needs a reforming figure with an electoral mandate who can oversee the formation of a new constitution removing the shackles of the old, engaging with all sectors of civil society.

Whilst there is clearly just cause for optimism, we must not forget that more than 200 people have been killed during the disturbances that have accompanied this long-awaited transition towards democracy. It is important that those sacrifices were not in vain.

Tragically, there is still violence on the streets of Tunisia; during our visit four people were killed at a demonstration following an attack on a police station, and whilst travelling home on Sunday we learned of another death in the central town of Kebili.

That is a fact that should weigh heavily on France, Italy and other nations that supported the regime of Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.

Hi, this is an excellent article for EUroRealism as it has raised the profile of one of the most dedicated EUroRealists in The EU who I gather was able to make many clear statements of human rights issues including gender and sexuality the fundamental right of Self determination and the very important fact that without liberty and sovereignty there is no such thing as meaningfull democracy.

These facts are equally as pertinent to the situation in Egypt and the rest of The Middle East and North Africa.

However let us remember that it also pertains to these United Kingdoms where Sinclaire is actively campaigning on a cross party basis with other MPs and MEPs and now Peers to Petition for a Referendum in co-operation with The Referendum Pledge Campaign see: CLICK HERE

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,
a good little video sadly missing much of the punch for Northern Ireland but at least seemingly sincere and tells the key points well without sidetracking to idiotic manifesto fantasies.
I thought the most apposite comment was:
Leadership within UKIP & a display of how they act towards the electorate as a democratic organisation  – informing, asking, helping & listening to people but most of all integrity, probity & transparency the true values of a sovereign caring Britain.
For more of the same we can vote Lib.Lab.Con. Its not manifestos no one delivers, money no one accounts for, politicians no one cares about that are needed – it is clear honest, ethical leadership & people on the ground not poncing around abroad!
Such a pity there is still no sign of probity, leadership ability, consistency or a shred of decency amongst the leadership and their paid praise singers, singing for their salaries and status, and parasites many too ashamed to put their own name to their claims.
The self serving vitriolic back biting of the scum gathered around the UBend that traps the filth forming UKIP’s racist, xenophobic, sexually intolerant EFD supporting leadership are the tragedy of UKIP.
The members do all they can and look at the squabbling dishonest and corrupt shower that let them down – there are only 2 UKIP elected MEPs left, actively campaigning visibly in Britain who have the basic decency to refuse to support The EU policy of Pan EU Political Groups and morally and financially supporting the.sordid EFD.
UKIP is still too corrupt to honour its financial moral committments incurred through dishonesty and harassment. They just lack the ethics needed for leadership and clearly lack the basic honour code our politicians need if they are to make a change for Britain.
FIRSTLY – IF YOU have an electronic text of this video it would be appreciated.
Praise where it is due – Nigel Farage made an excellent speech in The EU faux Parliament last Wednesday it was great to see him – as ever the performer – this time he actually managed to act like a grown up and avoid childish ad hominem ranting!
Praise where it is due – just imagine how much UKIP could have achieved by now if it had ever had a laeader o0f any merit and it had distanced itself from the scum and parasites that are now gathered around Farage.
There is no doubt that Farage at his best as a performer is on a par as a speaker with people like William Hague and even Dan Hannan but without a clear and conmmitted leader of competence his efforts are of no real consequence – negated by the scum around him his parasites and sychophants.
Well done Nigel – now all that UKIP needs to have some relevance is a thorough clean-up and the removal of the filth like Mark Croucher, Mick McTrough, Marta Anreasen, Douglas Denny, David Bannerman, and all the other placements and the parasites and the recruitment of a strong and competent leader.
.
I have appended the following comment on You Tube, and I will stand by it in any arena, as a supporter of UKIP for over 15 years – unlike the mouthy self seekers, self serving, self enriching crooks who have seized control and debased its incredible potential leading to the loss of virtually every honest and reliable activist and every single political visionary or competent thinker leaving the sweepings of what was potentially our lifeboat with sordid nere do wells, liars and thieves like Stuart Agnew, Mick McTrough, Marta Andreasen, Lord Pearson, Douglas Denny, Peter Reeve, Derek Clark, Mark Croucher, David Bannerman and the rest of the scum that have betrayed us all and our peoples and principles.
My congratulations to Nigel Farage for THE most prescient political speech since Dan Hannan exposed Gordon Brown for the charlatan he is and The Chilcott Enquiry exposed Tony Blair as a liar, a cheat and potentially a war criminal for his lies and crimes against humanity.
If only UKIP had a leader to harness the undoubted abilities of Farage & divest itself of its vile parasites and its equally odious EU partners – The day that happens Britain will leave The EU within 90 Days.
Better Off OUT!
NIGEL FARAGE IN ANOTHER ATTACK ON BRUSSELS BUREAUCRATS
Story Image
UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage
SUNDAY EXPRESS
November 28,2010
By Ted Jeory
UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has become a Europe-wide internet sensation again for another attack on Brussels bureaucrats.
His speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday has made him a cult hero across the continent.
Almost 200,000 people have watched different versions of it on YouTube and it has even been translated into German.
In the speech, he asked Brussels’ “very, very dangerous” officials: “Who the hell do you people think you are?”
Speaking directly to Belgium’s EU President Herman van Rompuy – the man he notoriously likened to a “damp rag” and a “low grade bank clerk” – he said: “You’ve been in office for one year and in that time the whole edifice is beginning to crumble, there’s chaos and the money’s running out.
“I should thank you. You should perhaps be the pin-up boy of the eurosceptic movement.”
He told fellow MEPs to scour the faces of their colleagues in the Strasbourg chamber .
“Look at the fear, look at the anger,” he said. “Poor old [European Commission president Jose Manuel] Barroso here looks like he’s seen a ghost.
“They’re beginning to understand that the game is up and yet in their desperation to preserve their dream they want to remove any remaining traces of democracy from the system.”
Earlier, Mr van Rompuy had claimed that the crisis-hit euro had brought stability to the EU, but Mr Farage dismissed the boast.
“I suppose I could applaud you for having a sense of humour but isn’t this really just the bunker “Your “Your fanaticism is out in the open. You talked about the fact that it was a lie to say that the nation state could exist in the 21st century globalised world.
“Well, that may well be true in the case of Belgium, which hasn’t had a government for six months but for the rest of us, right across every member state in this union, increasingly people are saying we don’t want that flag, we don’t want the anthem, we don’t want this political class – we want the whole thing consigned to the dustbin of history.”
The Ukip leader then criticised Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn, for suggesting last week that Ireland should delay a proposed general election until its budget had been approved.
“Just who the hell do you think you people are?” he said. “You are very, very dangerous people indeed. Your obsession with creating this Euro state means that you are happy to destroy democracy.
“You appear to be happy for millions and millions of people to be unemployed and to be poor.
“Untold millions will continue to suffer so your euro dream can continue.”
He predicted that Spain and Portugal would soon need bailing out, but by that time, the pot of money would be exhausted.
“But it’s even more serious than economics,” he added, “because if you rob people of their identity, if you rob them of their democracy then all you are left with is nationalism and violence.
“I can only hope and pray that the euro project is destroyed by the markets before that really happens.”
Mr Farage’s previous outburst against Mr van Rompuy last February attracted by almost 600,000 views on YouTube and resulted in an official reprimand.
Hi,
It is quite astonishing that a consumate journalist like Nigel Fandale can write an essay of over 3,200 words about ANY individual and display just how clearly he perceives the subject of his essay as vacuous, and of no gravitas or visible competence beyond that of a self centered, self serving, dishonourable empty vessel.
To be fair Farndale does find Farage sociable – going on to portray him as little but a fool.
In an essay of this length in a broadsheet one would expect some revelation of values, vision, aim – even perhaps some thanks or inclusion of praise of his team – it is necessary to keep reminding oneself that the essay is about a supposedly leading politician on an income or at very least cost to the tax payer of over £1Million a year – yet the article portrays nigel Farage as of no greater worth to his party, our Country or the body politic than some footballer’s WAG.
Do read the article for yourself and draw your own conclusions:
Nigel Farage: born to rant
He’s compared a fellow politician to a ‘damp rag’, had an extra-marital fling – and survived a plane crash. How facing death has softened the UKIP leader – a little…
Nigel Farage
Even Nigel Farage’s enemies, of which he has an impressive collection, would have to admit that he has the recognition factor. Whether he is appearing on Have I Got News For You or becoming a YouTube hit after abusing the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, telling him that he has ‘the charisma of a damp rag’, among other ripe comments, the 46-year-old UK Independence Party MEP knows how to get noticed.
Nigel Farage being pulled from the wreckage by UKIP PR man Duncan Barkes and a passerby
Sometimes it’s for the wrong reasons, such as when he had an extramarital fling, or claimed £2million worth of EU expenses over 10 years ‘to prove a point’, but he seems to take the Wildean view that, for a politician at least, there is only one thing worse than being talked about…
Today he stands out because he is the only man in this country pub in Kent, his local, wearing a silk-lined suit and tie and, generally, looking like a commodity broker, which is what he used to be. (Tin and cocoa.) He has lived here, not far from the Battle of Britain airfield Biggin Hill, all his life.
‘I was christened in that church,’ he says gesturing at the spire outside. ‘You can be rooted, have a sense of where you come from and what your values are, without being parochial.’
His recognisability is one of the reasons why, when Lord Pearson resigned as leader of Ukip in August, all eyes turned to Farage. He had done the job before, resigning last year so that he could concentrate on trying to win a seat in Westminster. Ignoring the convention that the Speaker is normally returned unopposed, Farage stood against John Bercow and lost.
‘The one thing I couldn’t know was whether Cameron would endorse him,’ he says with elongated vowels that are a little like those of Frankie Howerd. ‘I thought he wouldn’t. I was wrong. I take chances. I rush into things. But I don’t regret things.’
Last week Farage was re-elected as leader of Ukip. His message to his troops, he says, is that they need to be more disciplined and better funded. Intriguingly, he compares Ukip to the Tea Party. ‘We’re not religious like they are and we’re not affiliated to the equivalent of the Republican Party, but in terms of the howls we hear from people who feel outraged that their voice is not being heard in Westminster, there is a comparison.’
Though Farage can rarely be accused of avoiding confrontation, he did brood long and hard over whether or not to stand as leader. ‘The internal squabbling can be very tiresome,’ he says. ‘But so many young people have told me I was the reason they joined the party that I feel it is my duty. But the main consideration, the reason I hesitated, was that I am still recovering from a pretty major accident.’
The qualifying ‘pretty’ doesn’t give quite the whole picture. On the day of the General Election in May, Farage even managed to upstage David Cameron when the two-seater plane he was flying in got tangled in the Ukip banner it was trailing and crashed shortly after take-off from an airfield in Northamptonshire.
Does he get flashbacks? ‘Sometimes.’ Trouble sleeping? ‘Never slept before, so that’s OK. It does come back to me occasionally. It wasn’t a good position to be in.’ He had a relatively long time to contemplate his fate that day. ‘I had about four or five minutes of staring death in the face. You almost adopt the 1916 subaltern mentality: if it’s going to happen, let’s get it over with quickly.
‘When the pilot said to me: “Nigel, this is an emergency”, I knew exactly what that meant. I could see the sweat on his temples and I could see him fighting to keep control. He said to me a couple of weeks afterwards that I had been very calm, but what else was I supposed to do? I reasoned that he didn’t want to die any more than I did, so if I was panicking or making calls on my mobile that would just make the difficult job the pilot had harder.’
If he had called someone it would have been his wife presumably? ‘Presumably, yes,’ he says with a laugh.
For all his epic rudeness on the political stage, Farage, in person, is a cheerful soul who laughs a lot and has a toothy cartoonish smile. He has something that he claims Van Rompuy lacks: charisma. But he seems to have no self-pity.
He remembers tightening his seat belt as the plane went into a dive. ‘The slowest bit was the time between the nose hitting and the plane rolling over, it must have taken three quarters of a second, yet I remember it vividly, that feeling of time slowing down. I can still hear that noise.
‘Bang! And as we were going over there was a flash of light and I remember thinking with shock: “My God! I’m still alive!”’ Then he realised he was trapped upside down in the wreckage. ‘Horribly disorientating. I could feel my chest was smashed in.’ (Later it emerged that his sternum and ribs were broken, and his lung punctured.) ‘Then I thought, I’m going to burn to death because I was covered in petrol, in my hair, everywhere and that was pretty scary I tell you. When the rescuers came and asked me calmly if I was all right they got an earful of Anglo Saxon!’
A photograph of Farage trapped in the wreckage, and another of him looking bloodied and dazed as he stood up for the first time soon swept the internet. Simon Pegg, star of the spoof zombie movie Shaun of the Dead, was joking, within hours, that there had been a swing to the Zombie Party.
Did that upset Farage? ‘No. I wasn’t bothered about it. Those photos capture the feeling of being smashed. They were quite intrusive though and if I had died there would have been a hell of a row. If I’d snuffed it in the ambulance. But I didn’t die, so there you are.’
Does he feel almost invincible now? ‘Well, I’ve had testicular cancer and been in a big car crash before but that was when I was younger. Look.’ He rolls up his trousers and points to a bulge of bone under the skin on his leg. ‘It was easier to bounce back from that.’ As for the cancer, which led to one of his testicles being removed, he says he doesn’t find it uncomfortable to talk about.
‘In fact, I think the more men avoid talking about it the more dangerous it is. But this plane crash was different. I have to be realistic. The back is really not good. It is hard getting through a long day. I look all right. I’ve lost weight. Got a bit of a suntan, but when I wake up in the morning and try and put my socks on, I am quickly reminded of what happened.’
He says his approach, now that he has been re-elected as leader of Ukip, will be that of the older boxer. ‘I won’t be as fast but I will be able to box cleverer. Mentally, I feel fine, though I dare say there are those who would question what my mental health was like before the accident!’ The raucous laugh again.
One way in which the accident changed him, he says, is that he thinks he is less impulsive now, less bullish. ‘And less ebullient. That has been tempered. I have been thinking about that because I have always been the most ridiculous optimist. When I was in the City I always thought the next trade would be the big one.’
Did he take stock of his life in those four minutes? He nods thoughtfully. ‘I did think, why is this happening to me? Have I been that awful?’
And did he conclude that he has led a good life? He thinks long and hard before answering, which is not typical. He is never normally lost for words, as those who have been on the receiving end of his articulate and often amusing tirades in Brussels know well.
‘I’ve never really set out to hurt anybody either physically or mentally,’ he says eventually. ‘Not really. Never stolen anything. I think I’ve been reasonably honest. Is that leading a good life? You can regret you didn’t do more for your children but, on balance, I think I’ve tried to do what I thought was right. I don’t feel ashamed of the life I have led.’
Broadsheet readers may have missed reading about it, but in 2006, Farage, who has been married twice and has four children, became the target of a tabloid kiss-and-tell when a woman from Latvia claimed she met him in a pub in Biggin Hill and then ended up back at her place having sex ‘at least seven times’.
The revelation led to the joke ‘Ukip if you want to’. So. The extramarital affair?
‘Well, we’re all human. There is a big difference between that sort of thing and being really bad.’ And the expenses scandal? ‘Well, that was nonsense. I was trying to make a point about the Brussels gravy train, but it didn’t work. None of it went to me. Most of it went on my staff, on administration.’
And the accusations of racism? I remind him of David Cameron’s dismissal of Ukip as ‘fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists’. ‘Yeah we constantly have to fight against that prejudice. It was a bloody stupid thing for him to say and he’s never repeated it.
‘What he was doing was insulting his own party because most of his members broadly agree with what we are saying about Europe, people like Norman Tebbit, who is very popular within the Tory Party.’
Has Farage ever used the N-word? ‘Not since I was 15, a kid in the playground at school when you were all roundly abusing one another. No, that was a myth put about by Dr Sked [disenchanted Ukip founder Alan Sked].’
The mainstream parties may unite in their attacks on Ukip, ‘the BNP in Blazers’ is one of the insults, but, as Farage notes, much of the abuse directed at the party comes from within. The most spectacular bit of in-fighting was started by Robert Kilroy-Silk after he attempted a coup and then left Ukip in a huff to set up his own party, Veritas.
Kilroy-Silk described Ukip as ‘Right-wing fascist nutters’. Farage, in turn, dismissed Kilroy-Silk as a vain, orange buffoon and a ‘monster’.
At this point in the interview, Farage asks me: ‘We are the same age, how did you find growing up in the Seventies with the initials NF?’ It is my turn to laugh. Yes, I agree, they were unfortunate initials, but growing up in rural Yorkshire they probably didn’t hold as much significance as they would have done for him growing up in south London.
‘Yes, I was very aware of them because I was at school not far from Brixton. [At Dulwich.] During the Brixton Riots the police used our school as their headquarters.’
But let us return to the question about his leading a good life. He has an unusually laddish reputation for a politician. Does he feel this compromises him politically? What, for example, about his professed penchant for lap dancing clubs?
‘Lap dancing? Don’t have the time these days, but I used to go to them. Like it or not, they are a fact of life. You are talking about normal behaviour there. Everyone does it.’
Do they? I never have. ‘Why not?’ Because it’s exploitative, demeaning for both parties and tantamount to prostitution.
‘Prostitution and lap dancing are not the same thing, they can be but not usually.’ But aren’t conservative-minded politicians like him supposed to believe in family values?
‘Yes, but I am also a libertarian. I think prostitution, for instance, should be decriminalised and regulated. I feel that about drugs, too. I don’t do them myself but I think the war on drugs does more harm than the drugs themselves. I am opposed to the hunting ban and the smoking ban, too. What have they got to do with government? The one thing I cannot be accused of is hypocrisy.’
Even though his extreme libertarianism must have frightened the Tory horses, he was, nevertheless, once offered a safe Tory seat. ‘It wouldn’t have worked though, would it? I wouldn’t have lasted a fortnight before having the Tory whip removed. Besides, I think I’ve managed to do more outside the Tory Party than in.’
He did start out as a Tory though. Indeed, being an aspiring Thatcherite he chose not to go down the university route, preferring instead to follow his father into the City and make his fortune. He worked there for almost 20 years before having a political epiphany the night Britain joined the ERM in 1990.
‘I was convinced it was the wrong thing to do.’ Then came the overthrow of Margaret Thatcher. ‘The way those gutless, spineless people got rid of the woman they owed everything to made me so angry. I was a monster fan of Mrs Thatcher. Monster. Hers was the age of aspiration, it wasn’t about class.’
The final straw for him was Maastricht. ‘I really worried. And I realised the views I heard in here, in this pub, weren’t being represented in Westminster. That was when I thought it was time I should enter politics and try to do something about it.’
He insists, though, that he is not a little Englander who is against foreigners per se, not least because his second wife, Kirsten, is German and their two young children are, or will be, bilingual.
But for all that, he does represent a party in the European Parliament whose sole desire is to get Britain out of the EU. And they have had some modest success. In the last Euro elections they did take nine seats in Brussels, which meant they beat Labour and the Lib Dems.
But now that the single currency has come unstuck, I ask, isn’t the war over? ‘Well, thank God it has collapsed,’ he says. ‘I used to wear the pound sign in my lapel every day but now I don’t. But this isn’t about the single currency anymore. The debate has moved on. It’s about taking back control over your working lives from Brussels.
‘Every day ordinary life in this country is affected by our EU membership, ordinary trades, not just farmers and fishermen. Nearly all our laws and regulations are now made for us in Brussels. And not only that, our membership of the EU costs us £40million a day.’
It is time to reload, his expression for a refill. How much does he drink? ‘That’s been diminishing for 20 years. Attitudes have changed. Because I like a couple of drinks with my lunch I am considered strange.’ Has he ever worried about alcoholism? His father, after all, had a drinking problem. ‘I’m lucky. I’m one of those people who can take it or leave it,’ he says.
In the pub, the locals all seem to know him. We talk about the recognition factor again and note that, such is the level of public ignorance or indifference about politics and politicians in this country, surveys show that there are even some voters who cannot say who the prime minister is.
Farage says this does not surprise him. ‘I mean, who is Cameron? What does he stand for? He’s so bland.’ He’s laughing as he says it.
‘Actually, he and I get on OK. We joined parliament at the same time and were on the same South East news programmes circuit. He was always nicking cigarettes off me. And he was the first person to send me a note after my accident. Same day. I really appreciated that.’
This makes you wonder whether Farage’s accident has mellowed him. After all, calling Cameron bland hardly counts as an insult by his standards. Ask van Rompuy. He probably still wakes up in a cold sweat at three in the morning thinking about the abuse he received from Farage on the floor of the European Council.
Rumpy, as Farage calls him, looked stunned at the time. ‘I just wanted to ask him who he was?’ Farage now recalls. ‘Who voted for him? I don’t use a script and the line about him having the appearance of a low-grade bank clerk came to me while I was listening to his speech.’
He used to think he was wasting his time there, doing those speeches in a parliament no one covers. ‘But then the YouTube thing has given me a new lease of life. It reaches big audiences.’
It sure does. One of the sites showing that clip has received around half a million hits and a clip of Farage putting the boot into Gordon Brown, also at the European Parliament, has had a quarter of a million visits.
‘Oh yes, well, Brown,’ he says. ‘Good God. He has no social graces. A non-person.’ So if Cameron goes to speak at Brussels as Brown did, should he expect a Farage barrage? ‘Bloody right. That’s what I’m there for. That’s what they vote for me for, to provide some entertainment. With the European Parliament stuff, I have tried to make it entertaining.’
Intriguingly, if you look on European versions of YouTube you will see Farage is always given the title ‘Oppositionführer’. ‘I know, I know,’ he says. ‘Great fun. It just means leader of the opposition.’ Would the Oppositionführer say he is now more recognisable in Brussels than the Führer, van Rompuy? ‘I don’t know about that, but if I am recognisable it is only because the others are so bloody awful, not because I’m good.’
He can still dish it out, it seems, post accident, and when I ask whether he can still take it he laughs again. ‘Whatever Mickey-taking you get on programmes like Have I Got News For You it is as nothing compared to leaving public school and going to work on the London Metal Exchange. There it was vicious, all day every day.’
He doesn’t want to go back to that old life, he adds, even if his new life does sometimes bring him unwanted attention. ‘The recognition is great until you are on the last train home on a Friday night,’ he says. ‘It’s the classic ‘‘I know you” moment. And there’s nowhere to hide! Generally when people do the ‘‘good on ya mate’’ it’s from people you are happy to have it from, cab drivers and so on.
But on that train when people have had a few drinks…’ He drains his glass, slams it down on the table and laughs again. Bloodied but unbowed.
I do not decry Nigel Farage’s abilities as a performer but I believe that Nigel Farndale has grasped the essence of the man as a politician, a leader or a man of gravitas and vision – Trying to fill his page clearly proved difficult and the flanneling has all the characteristics of a schoolboy punishment essay on the ‘Contents of a Ping Pong Ball’.
Hi,
In the light of the interesting article exposing UKIP MEP’s EU expenses fiddles – particulary those of John Bufton who seems to have been tossed to the wolves by Nigel Farage’s corrupt leadership team we note the desperate distraction technique so redollent of Annabelle Fuller, Mark Croucher and Gawain Towler in their underhand, duplicitous and creepy style as displayed by Septyk on Anthony Butcher’s squalid little forum as ever being used as a platform for lies and distortions.
Let us look at the information led on the forum in some detail – I have interleaved prefixed >>GL-W. and suffixed<< in black:
Subject: OLAF file OF/2010/0430 in assessment
Dear Ms REDACTED,
 >>GL-W. Ms. may be apposite but may also indicate a forgery as having checked with a mole in Sinclaire’s offices I am informed there is little or no likelihood of ANY Ms. on her staff being relevant! Whether the letter is a fake or tampered with by UKIP I leave it to YOU to decide<<
Recently you have contacted a memebr of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) informing about allegations involving a former MEP Nikki Sinclair.
>>GL-W. would OLAF comment on a serving MEP as a ‘former’ MEP? Could this be further indication of forgery on the part of UKIP parasites?<<
Since I have been appointed to assess the available information, I would like to meet you in order to collect and/or clarify the information you dispose.
Therefore, please let me know if you are available for the above-mentioned meeting, if you live in Brussel or abroad. In case you cannot attend to the meeting, please inform me about the following issues:
the period (from – to) in which you used to work for the MEP Nikki Sinclair;
Where exactly you used to work for the same MEP (complete address, floor, office number, telephone number)
Who used to work with you (name of colleagues – respective phone numbers) or who else used to work for the MEP Nikki Sinclair;
How much used to be your salary when you used to work for the MEP Nikki Sinclair. In which form your salary used to be paid (cheque, liquid, bank transfers).
>>GL-W. Surely OLAF would be well aware of payment methods and that ONLY Bank Transfer is used for salaries of this nature! I believe.<<
Thank you having contacted OLAF and I am klooking forward to hearing from you soon.
The Common Man has chipped in with its thoughts as quoted on Butcher’s sordid Forum:
The Common Man has had rather more success in discovering the number of the OLAF investigation which Ms Sinclaire is facing than convicted thief Mr Lance Watkins,
>>GL-W. well what interesting misinformation this Oh so Common lies this very Common Man tells!<<
who has been proclaiming her innocence
>>GL-W. which of course I have always posted in good faith as factual having checked in every way available to me and unlike the scum that post for UKIP I have made a point of using my own name to substantiate my comments AND have offered the right of anyone with accurate corrections to contact me to make such corrections – in well over 1,000 blog entries to date not a single solitary consequential error has ever been shown to have been accidentally published.
The Common Filth and very Septyk scum lacking the integrity to put their name to their scuttlebutt continue to lie and defame as they always have.
You will recall Mark Croucher maliciously harrassed me and others for using publicity photographs aeeking to bankrupt me with a liability of over £100,000 for using free distribution publicity photos on a non commercial blog – he was aided in Court by other scum in UKIP including Paul Nuttall & Clive Page – you will be aware the Court found against Mark Croucher and ordered Mark Croucher to pay costs which due to lack of morality, outright dishonesty and contempt for British justice this egregious piece of excrement Mark Croucher has failed to acquit his duty and honour his debts.
to the small number of people with the patience to read his drivel.
>>We note that clearly there are those who do read the tedious drivel!!! Frankly I care not howmany read the blogs I write as I am far more pleased to ensure the facts together with evidence are made a matter of record – as they clearly are. I am particularly surprised regarding the UKIP related blogs that there are so many people with any residual interest in their increasingly irrelevant posturings and the scum that so clearly remain supporting their corruption. <<
Admittedly, it is only one of at least three current investigations, but we are sure that the other numbers will be forthcoming shortly.
>>GL-W. As we know and have repeatedly shown Septyk and the very Common  friend are strangers to the truth on a regular basis and make no effort to act with any integrity or accuracy as they shelter in anonymity for their lies and distortions.
Should I find that OLAF have misinformed me and my contacts in The Payment Offices of the EU and my source within Sinclaire’s organisation have ALL lied to me and there is in fact a substantive case against Sinclaire I will of course publish as soon as I have verified the facts.
I do NOT believe that such investigation exists as I do not believe that my contacts are one fraction as dishonest as Septyk & Common Man have been consistently proven to be.<<
This particular investigation is now close to completion, and this may account for the delay in Ms Sinclaire having her collar felt: at least one other investigation is already complete, and the file has been passed to West Midlands police
>>GL-W. I have every reason to believe that this is just bluster and lies – especially in the light of this letter from OLAF:<<
12-Oct-2010
“Dear Ms. Sinclaire,
I apologize for not having contacted you earlier.
I understand from your telephonic message to OLAF Free Phone, that you wanted to be informed whether OLAF has opened an investigation into possible irregularites you may have committed as alleged by a former assistant of yours.
I can confirm to you that OLAF has not opened an internal administrative investigation into this matter.
Yours sincerely.
>>GL-W. This does rather show the dishonest misrepresentation of known facts by Septyk and their chum Common Man showing just what filth support UKIP’s leadership.
Had anyone doubted the scum that are UKIP’s parasites note Mike McTrough‘s conversation with itself when asking:<<
More to the point, after tonight’s Dispatches will she be vindicated by the public??….
>>GL-W. Clearly it would be welcome to UKIP leadership if the dishonest implications against Sinclaire were to harm her efforts to liberate Britain from The EU – a cause it would seem UKIP’s leadership have little interest in and we note Mick McTrough is not the only liar and cheat wheeled out to support UKIP as even the utterly corrupt and duplicitous Marta Andreassen was wheeled out!
McTrough the liar of Harlow; who published internal confidential correspondence of UKIP, for his personal gain, when in a position of trust; continued by asking:<<
Why wasn’t this published on October 13th ?
>>GL-W. that pertaining to OLAF’s letter assuring Ms. Sinclaire she is NOT under investigation.
I wonder if it had occurred to McTrough thast it was none of his damned business – it was UKIP which saw fit to act in apparent breech of the law in dismissing Nikki Sinclaire and discriminating against her due to her perfectly legal perversion as a homosexual.
The benefit of NOT publishing the letter concerned is obvious as shown by the FACT that it has exposed Septyk and The Common Slime and now McTrough for what they are!<<
See below for JUNIUS’ take on the posturing of UKIP leadership and the constructive efforts of Nikki Sinclaire:
UKIP: Nikki Sinclaire vindicated by OLAF
The usual disgusting Farage sycophants and ne’er do wells have constantly claimed that Nikki Sinclaire is under investigation by OLAF. This is a lie.
It is known that a vexatious complaint was made, by a former employee – allegedly one John Ison – but that this complaint was not pursued due to lack of evidence, and because of the circumstances surrounding the complaint. Mr Ison’s employment with Nikki Sinclaire was terminated in, shall we say, unpleasant circumstances, which involved breach of trust and the alleged “disappearance” of petty cash.
We are now releasing the text of an email received by Nikki from a Mr De Readt, an OLAF investigator, dated October 12th 2010.
This clearly shows that Nikki is NOT under investigation by OLAF. So the Farage sycophants can put that in their pipes and smoke it!
It tells us something about the integrity of those who made these vexatious allegations. We understand that these allegations were discussed by Mr Ison and members of UKIP’s NEC immediately before the September party conference in Torquay.
We have evidence of orchestration of these vexatious allegations.
The email from OLAF clearing Nikki is reproduced in full below. Draw your own conclusions about those people who claimed that Nikki was under investigation.
Dear Ms. Sinclaire,
I apologize for not having contacted you earlier.
I understand from your telephonic message to OLAF Free Phone, that you wanted to be informed whether OLAF has opened an investigation into possible irregularites you may have committed as alleged by a former assistant of yours.
I can confirm to you that OLAF has not opened an internal administrative investigation into this matter.
Yours sincerely.
it is astonishing what a disaster Nigel Farage has proved to be in his pretence that he leads UKIP.
It has clearly been a case that Farage has ensured no one of competence, gravitas or probity has remained in UKIP to challenge him – it seems very clear that he has poisoned the party.
As proof of this whilst ComRes CLICK HERE shows the overwhellming majority of people wish to leave the EU and on many aspects of EU politics the British people wish to disassociate – yet the best UKIP have been able to achieve in a General Election has been 3.01%, it is hard to put forward any concept of success forward for UKIP being anything other than an abject failure.
We note that even after a prolonged period of near unchallenged publicity from Farage’s idiotic involvement in a light plane crash [For the report see CLICK HERE] the resignation of his risible puppet Lord Pearson, the comedic value of Mad Monkton to two tedious months of stultifyingly boring run up to his coronation Farage has made virtually no impression on the body politic as clearly the public do not give credibility to this foolish little man.
The proof positive of the unarguable fact that the public do not trust Farage is that although a huge tranche of the electorate do not expect the contrived coalition will survive and yet they are well aware that Labour, due to economic illiteracy and political incompetence have left us with £8 Trillion of unsustainable debt [For details CLICK HERE] Farage has led UKIP over 17 years to the huge total of 4% trust by the electorate.
By ensuring there is no one of any gravitas, competence or ability in UKIP and one only needs to note the undeniably trash that has floated to the top in UKIP – not a single individual ANYONE of integrity could or would respect. Hence a mere 4% support amongst the electorate.
Hi,
it is sad to see UKIP saddled with Nigel Farage yet again – he has proved catastrophic in ever sense of the word as a leader – as a performer he had so much to offer – the glib tongue of the City Barrow Boy, the courage of a City Gambler using other peoples’ money, the disregard for any aspect of morality or decency a man utterly without honour or any kind of values to which any but an oik would aspire.
He has created a party in his own image – inconsequential, irrelevant and self serving a vehicle for enrichment and an obstacle to the liberation of these United Kingdoms – a micro cosme of The EU itself with the same dishonesties, frauds, bullying, intimidation, racism and natural prejudices – a vile party supporting a vile concept.
All so sadly predictable when you overly reward nere do wells, chavs and gutter snipes.
UKIP, Treason and Plot
NEWS: Electing Nigel Farage as UKIP leader will be an even bigger mistake than it was last time
No doubt, in picking the Fifth of November as announcement day for yet another of its leadership elections, UKIP was once again displaying the arch “sense of humour” which it, though not the rest of us, seems unable to resist. But the Tory Right needs to understand that UKIP’s set to become an even unfunnier joke, and that this will weaken still further Euroscepticism in the UK.
It’s apt – fitting would not be the right word – that UKIP’s joker-in-chief, Nigel Farage, looks set to be declared its leader, resuming a post which, in another “only with UKIP” quirk, he meekly surrendered just a year ago, conveniently before the general election. It could also only be with UKIP that we could witness a leadership contest during which the frontrunner has proceeded with apparent inevitability to the prize and yet, at the same time, has suffered grievous, even fatal blows to his reputation. This concerns all of us who would like to see UKIP mature into at least a voice of conscience on the Right, a prospect which frankly receded in the course of Mr Farage’s last stint in the job. Sadly, however, neither “maturity” nor “conscience” serve as les mots juste when we contemplate Nigel Farage. The party’s prospects of serving as such, let alone anything more, is likely to recede still further, should the once-and-future leader return, given what we have seen and heard in recent weeks.
Mr Farage’s eagerness to treat everything as a sort of silly jape – think Boy’s Own meets The Beano, his many declarations, prior to his previous election and, tellingly, again now, that he intends to “professionalise” his party notwithstanding – has long been to UKIP’s detriment, beyond the eyes of those in the media, usually sharing no actual affinity with the party, who consider him “good value”. Now, though, light has now been shed on the bumptious ‘Nigel Farage’ figure the press likes to exploit for its own, hardly Eurosceptic, purposes. Dismally this Nigel is some distance removed from the Woosterish image he likes to cultivate.
Farage has always brushed aside as sour grapes from the disaffected claims, or revelations, about an unpleasant quality to his political leadership. Yet in this latest UKIP leadership campaign something unexpected has happened, with at least two major attacks upon Farage coming from senior UKIP figures previously regarded as essentially sympathetic to him. The first of them, Douglas Denny, is on the party’s NEC, from where he has been one of Farage’s principal apologists. No longer. Two weeks ago, he wrote on a public forum that Farage, ‘stabbed the party in the back by abrogating his responsibility to the party as Leader – by not taking the party into the general election.’ The next day, Mr Denny went even further – much further – by stating that Farage is ‘prone to temper tantrums, bullying tactics and condescension to try to belittle those who oppose him’ and that he ‘has repeatedly ignored the NEC or attempted to by-pass what he does not like’; ‘has shown he does not have a future vision for UKIP’ and ‘is much too tied-up with Brussels and his fiefdom over there’. For the icing on the cake, Denny revealed that he had made these criticisms out of the public gaze on the party’s members-only forum, but that, even though he was on the NEC, the comments had been censored there.
A week later, Farage took another barrage, this time from within that Brussels fiefdom. His second critic, Mike Nattrass, is not only a fellow UKIP MEP; he is also a former Deputy Leader of the party. In a widely circulated email, Mr Nattrass made observations about Farage that were even more damning than those of Mr Denny.
Increasingly, I am hearing the word “Spiv” used to describe him … [He’s a] control freak. He grabs all UKIP publicity to the detriment of any other UKIP spokesperson or MEP. He employs assistants with the MEP’s budgets without allowing those MEPs any say … he does not like truth or competition.
That was only the start of Nattrass’ devastating attack. Farage, he said, has ‘the morals of an alley cat’; he has been ‘caught out with both hands in the till’ after breaking a UKIP MEPs’ agreement not to employ spouses and ‘secretly’ paying his wife out of his budget; he ‘has derailed every leader since the very first’, bar one; ‘the whole Parliamentary Group in the EU is run for Nigel’s financial and public image’; he has contributed ‘next to nothing’ financially to the party (a very interesting allegation, given that Farage once famously explained away his brag that he had received over £2million in non-salary expenses and allowances by saying he had used it ‘to help promote UKIP’s message’). For good measure, Nattrass also took aim at Farage’s ‘close friend Godfrey Bloom MEP’, who, he claimed, does ‘all the hiring’ and ‘is said to be banned by four hotels for urinating in the corridors’. Such is the volume of ‘professionalization’.
Despite all this – or perhaps because of it – Nattrass concluded that he expected ‘Nigel will be elected leader as no one else is effectively allowed to stand without a spin campaign against them.’ As disturbing evidence of this, he added that he ‘found allegations of fraud were brought against me when I stood for Leadership. They melted away afterwards and had no foundation in truth, but they did the job intended’. Then, breathtakingly, Nattrass stated that, in contrast to the fake charges against himself, ‘Nigel has had a number of very real cases against him.’ Whatever the substance of these charges, in a normal, even, professional party, the would-be leader might have been expected to keep the lid of the petrol can, but as if to prove that, at the centre of any UKIP firestorm, one will find Nigel Farage, he promptly proved at least two of Nattrass’ accusations. First, in an astonishing act of petulance, by publicly falling out with fellow leadership candidate and MEP, David Campbell Bannerman, over the latter’s quite legitimate complaints about Farage’s planned appearance on Question Time in the middle of the campaign. Indeed, Mr Farage went as far as to roar at the BBC microphone helpfully put in front of him:
Mr Bannerman clearly thinks that his own ambition and his own ego matter more than the interests of the party. Frankly, I am appalled by that. I think that the act of getting hold of Question Time and saying it was all wrong and against party rules was just an act of envy.
If irony survived Kissinger’s Nobel Peace Prize, this charge, from this source, will undoubtedly have finished it off.
Could anything else go wrong for Mr Farage during this fortnight from hell? Amazingly, yes. The next leaked email came from the keyboard of one Sharon Bonici, who it transpires is a Maltese socialist with strong links to Farage (try to keep up: this is UKIP), whom he has entrusted with the setting up of his latest Brussels project, a lavishly taxpayer-funded pan-EU party. The email confirms this ambition of Farage, executed in the face of an overwhelmingly supported motion at the recent UKIP conference not to establish any such thing without the explicit approval of UKIP’s membership.
While Farage defying his members is standard-issue behaviour, what’s truly toxic for any British Eurosceptic who thinks that UKIP under Farage is worth even a protest vote is whom he has already signed up to this latest costly project. Top of the list is his alleged fixer, Godfrey Bloom. No surprise there perhaps, but go further down the list and one finds representatives from the Sweden Democrats, a party born out of the Swedish neo-nazi movement, and the extreme-right Flemish party, the Vlaams Belang, with proposed additions from Geert Wilders’ party in the Netherlands and Italy’s notorious far-right Lega Nord, with the latter of whom Farage has already closely embroiled UKIP in the group he leads (jointly with the Lega Nord itself) in the European Parliament. That group, the ludicrously styled Europe of Freedom and Democracy (EFD), has been the subject of much controversy within and outside UKIP over the past year, not just because of the membership of the Lega Nord, which has countless allegations of racism and paramilitary violence stacked up against it, but of various other far-right parties as well, including the Danish People’s Party, the Slovak National Party and Greece’s Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS). The leaders of the last-named claim 9/11 was a Jewish conspiracy and were properly condemned by the US State Department in 2005 as an ‘extreme right-wing party (which) supports virulent nationalism, anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia’. They’re also into their seventh year propping up Nigel Farage’s Brussels fiefdom. For understand this, Farage’s hegemony within UKIP stems directly from the powerbase afforded to him by this EP group. In other words, if you think that Nigel Farage is wrecking British Euroscepticism, it’s the EP’s money that lets him do so. Funny that.
Disgust over the EFD’s composition caused one UKIP MEP, Nikki Sinclaire, to leave it, closely followed by Mike Nattrass, but while Farage subsequently withdrew the UKIP whip from Sinclaire in Brussels and has tried to hound her out of the party altogether, he has thus far left Nattrass’ status intact, fearful of the latter’s clout within the party, not least in terms of his generous funding.
Despite all this controversy, and despite always rubbishing the suggestion that the EFD has far-right elements, Farage now seems not to care as he desperately tries to move into open electoral alliance at pan-EU level with partners whose extremist credentials are in no doubt at all. It will be interesting indeed to see who else now slithers out from under the EU’s rock garden to join Farage’s grand project. The Bonici email suggested that one of the pan-EU party’s first campaigns would be ‘to generate 1 million signatures to be able to instigate a pan wide European referendum [sic] on Turkey. The idea is to use the million signature clause according to the Lisbon Treaty.’ By a strange coincidence, three days before this email was sent, Austria’s far-right Freedom Party organised a two-day conference in Vienna, to organise an EU-wide referendum on Turkish EU entry, using the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty regarding a million signatures.
Attending the Freedom Party’s conference were parties remarkably similar to those on the Bonici email – far-right politicians from Vlaams Belang, the Sweden Democrats, the Lega Nord, the Slovak National Party and the Danish People’s Party, the latter represented by one of the EFD’s leading MEPs, the appropriately named Morten Messerschmidt, who, amongst many controversial moments in his delightful career, said in 2006
I think we need three sets of rules of immigration. One for Europeans, who will be regulated by EU-law. One for people from the rest of the Western World, including parts of East Asia, South America, etc. And then a third set of rules for the third world, who in general do not really offer anything we can benefit from, speaking of education, labour craft and knowledge.
This is the coalition which Nigel Farage has been carefully and quietly cultivating across the Channel for many years, whilst an indifferent British press have looked the other way. One school of thought holds that Farage has been indulged deliberately, to some extent, to thwart the BNP, but with friends like these, what exactly has been the point?
UKIP can perform a valuable service to Britain: they can keep the Tory Party, if not honest on Europe, then at least rather more honest than leaders like David Cameron and John Major would prefer to have it. With Nigel Farage leading them, whatever threat UKIP poses, it won’t be an honest one.
