~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,
sorry about the delay but I needed to check the pre release version with the online version – The pre release version was much better with a far fullers story, more MEPs mentioned and considerably more quotes from Sinclaire but having been bumped from last week due to a technicality I guess Guy was on weak ground to fight for the full 1,500 words!
At least this leaves him with enough for a double page spread adding in the future material already written.
EU cash snatchers
Tory and Labour MEPs in sneaky new exes ploy
SNEAKY British MEPs are claiming cash for a day’s work in Brussels before scuttling to the Eurostar minutes later and travelling HOME.
We caught Tory Robert Sturdy and Labour’s Peter Skinner turning up at the Euro parliament at the crack of dawn to punch their card to grab £258 daily expenses.
Whistleblower... Ms Sinclaire
 Whistleblower… Ms Sinclaire
The allowance from struggling taxpayers is supposed to cover the cost of them attending official business in Brussels.
But our investigation found these grasping Euro MPs didn’t stick around.
Instead they jumped into a plush official car, with their suitcases in tow, and arrived at the Eurostar terminal less than 45 MINUTES later before heading back to Blighty.
And they’re not alone. Hordes of foreign MEPs are at it too.
This will outrage hard-working Brits who hand over £8.5BILLION a year to Europe – £137 per person – to pay for these pampered politicians. And it will be a huge embarrassment for Prime Minister David Cameron who in 2008 stepped in to clean up his party’s expenses system in Brussels.
He said at the time: “Just as I expect our MPs to adhere to the highest standards, so must MEPs. The taxpaying public have a right to know how their money is being spent and politicians have a duty to ensure it is spent properly.”
Disgusted West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire agreed to expose her fellow Euro politicians – who earn £80,955 a year NOT including expenses.
Working with her, we filmed on Fridays in the parliament buildings of Brussels in Belgium and Strasbourg, France. We found members from all over Europe exploiting the signing-in system.
Greedy MEPs were QUEUEING outside the Attendance Office even before it opened at 7am.
Of the 160 Euro MPs we filmed signing in before 10am, more than a third – 54 – arrived with overnight bags and suitcases. At least 25 left parliament shortly after.
Of these, we caught nine arriving at the airport shortly after, ready to fly home, as well as our Brits on Eurostar.
Ms Sinclaire, who runs campaigns from her website www.yourmep.org, said: “It’s a disgrace. On a Friday, when parliament is virtually closed, MEPs still sign in for their £258 and then head straight for the exit doors.
“Many people don’t earn £258 a week, but some MEPs claim it for a day when they’re in for barely an hour. Taxpayers should know how their cash is being spent.”
In Brussels, East of England Euro MP Mr Sturdy, 66, signed for his daily expenses at just 7:18am. And balding South East MEP Mr Skinner, 51, was close behind his pal, signing in at 7.40am.
The pair arrived at Brussels Midi station together at 8.04am, jumping out of a chauffeur-driven people carrier in good time for the 8.29am Eurostar. Two hours later we caught them at London’s St Pancras station.
The Brits were caught on camera two days ago, but on other days of filming we found a string of MEPs turning up early to claim their cash in Brussels.
It was still barely light on January 28 when Polish Euro MP Jolanta Hibner, 60, wheeled her suitcase into parliament to sign in at 7.58am. We pictured her at Brussels Airport just 22 minutes later, ready to fly home.
Another Polish MEP, Adam Gierek, 72, signed in at 8.01am with a colleague. We captured him stepping out of a chauffeur-driven car at the airport at 10:51am. Then Portuguese Euro MP Ilda Figueiredo 62, signed the register at 8:20am before being spotted at departures at 10:04am.
And Spanish MEP, purple-haired Eider Gardiazabal Rubial, 35, wheeled her suitcase to the Attendance Office at 9:56am, before being seen at the airport at 10:20am.
In Strasbourg, despite screens showing no official business on January 21, dozens of MEPs claimed expenses in the early hours.
We caught Polish Euro MP Danuta Jazlowiecka, 53, signing in at 9.21am, wheeling a suitcase. Then, at 9:42am – just 21 minutes later – she arrived at Strasbourg airport.
There are only 134 days of official parliamentary business – which does NOT include Fridays – in a year, worth £34,538 in daily allowances. By also signing in on the 37 Fridays, each MEP can trouser £9,537 extra.
Mr Sturdy said he worked late on Thursday night and that a power failure at King’s Cross would have made getting home difficult. He added: “I’m signing in because I’m doing my job. As vice chair of international trade I have a lot on at the moment.” He admitted he “often” signed in on Fridays.
Mr Skinner said: “It is often the case I will work six days on the trot, some of which will be spent in the constituency. My first duty is to represent people across the South-East which is sometimes best done face-to-face”
But EU rules state the allowance which they claimed is supposed to cover expenses like accommodation and meals incurred by attending official meetings away from their home country on the day signed for.
Ms Jazlowiecka’s aide told us: “It is not breaking rules to sign in and leave.” And Ms Figueiredo’s spokesman said it was up to parliament to determine what she could claim.
Hi,
the visit to London & day and 1/2 of campaigning was a really good investment for EUroRealism particularly as it is already paying off – The Sunday Times article is the product of an interview  with Marie Woolf and the interviews with The Express, News of the World, BBC etc. may well also pay dividends towards leaving the EU in the long run!
Also the visit to Tunisia had some well planned spin offs that will make huge differences for EUroRealism in the mid and long run – it was so much more valuable than the jollies featured in The Daily Mail this week!
Cameron to appoint new £1m-a-year MEP
With cuts beginning to bite, the government’s move to install a new MEP is labelled undemocratic and a waste of taxpayers’ money
The government is to install an extra Tory MEP at a cost of more than £1m a year, in a move that has been condemned as undemocratic and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
Foreign Office ministers are pushing through a law that will create a new seat for an MEP in the West Midlands constituency. The move follows a reconfiguring of seats in the European parliament that has given Britain the right to an additional MEP.
The government has decided the seat will go to a Conservative, based on the results of the last European election in the region, without holding a fresh election.
Opposition MEPs say the seat should only be created at the next European election in 2014. They argue this would be more democratic and would save money. An MEP costs about £1.2m a year in salary, office and staff costs, travel expenses, pensions and other allowances. The money will come out of the European parliament budget, which is partly funded by British taxpayers.
Nikki Sinclaire, an independent MEP for the West Midlands, called for the plan to appoint the MEP before 2014 to be scrapped. She said the money should be used to save services facing cuts.
“It is unbelievable when essential public services such as libraries and school maintenance are being cut to the bone that the government is legislating to appoint another politician,” she said.
Critics say that if a by-election had been held, the Tories would have risked losing in a region that also has significant Labour and UK Independence party support.
The new Tory MEP will take up his or her seat when all EU states have ratified the protocol. Britain is ratifying the change via the European Union Bill, now passing through parliament. The MEP is expected to take up the seat by early next year.
Yesterday, the Foreign Office said: “Like all member states, we agreed in June to ratify this protocol as soon as possible, to enable the additional MEPs to be returned to the European parliament.
“It is in no way a question of the government ‘appointing’ an additional MEP.
“The European Council outlined a number of ways that the 12 EU member states concerned could elect their additional MEPs. Like most other states who gain an additional MEP, the UK will do this by referring to the results of the last European parliamentary elections in 2009.”
The Electoral Commission said it had calculated where an extra MEP could be located, but the government had decided how the seat would be filled.
It said: “We recommended that the extra seat be allocated to the West Midlands region. That is where our remit ends.”
The commission chose the West Midlands because it has the highest number of voters per MEP of anywhere in Britain.
You can locate this story at CLICK HERE.
Here is the Tory list of PPC MEPs:
Philip Charles Bradbourn,
Malcolm Harbour
Anthea McIntyre,
Michael Burnett,
Mark Spelman,
Daniel Dalton
As the first two were elected as MEPs I guess the next in line will be Anthea MaIntyre as clearly the list as I tracked it was NOT in alphabetical order!
~~~~~~~#######~~~~~~~

There is also an 850 word story across two pages in The News of The World – which I have read but am unwilling to publish yet as I have NOT seen it on line as unlike The Times I do not have a pass for the pay wall 😉 I’m not much interested in voyeurism, I know few of the so called Seeelebritys, sport bores me rigid and the back biting and gossip is of no interest.

Eventually I get the interesting bits sent to me by friends on the paper eventually!

The advance copy and details seems very healthy publicity for Nikki Sinclaire, but I shall wait till I get the final .pdf and confirm no alterations have been made to the final Journalist copy.

#0283* – Why Farage’s UKIP is not fit for purpose by Dr. Eric EDMOND

#0283* – Why Farage’s UKIP is not fit for purpose by Dr. Eric EDMOND!

Clean EUkip up NOW make UKIP electable!

The corruption of EUkip’s leadership,
their anti UKIP claque in POWER & the NEC
is what gives the remaining 10% a bad name!
.
Why Farage’s UKIP is not fit for purpose by Dr. Eric EDMOND!
Do Not Forget The Author Was An Elected UKIP NEC Member!
Eric fell foul of Fasrage because he was not prepared to lie nor to collude in corruption!

To be fair Eric skilled as he is as a mathematician and an economist with experience as a Downing Street Civil Service Adviser AND as a senior executive of The Bank of England before his retirement whose wife is an NHS Consultant Head of Department in a major West Country Hospital; proved short of temper in dealing with fools and scoundrels of UKIP’s leadership!

Who on UKIP NEC has ever achieved anything of note that is of value?

.

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
Why Farage’s UKIP is not fit for purpose
UKIP needs more members, more talent and more UK effort to  even start on the road to getting our country back by repealing the 1972 European Communities Act. Since Farage and his Cabal have taken control of UKIP membership has fallen steadily, activists, the life blood of any political party who disagree with Farage  have been kicked out, and sycophantic placemen put into all the important party positions. No serious political party carries on like this. You only see this behaviour in cults where a gullible and uncritical membership are conned by, and blindly supports, a corrupt leadership whose only interest is in lining their own pockets.
Look at those at the top of UKIP enjoying a luxurious cosseted lifestyle set up by the EU but paid for ultimately by UK taxpayers. They are tame, pampered, toothless EU poodles kept in Brussels who give Barroso and the other Eurocrats democratic credibility by enabling them to claim they tolerate anti-EU parties. Its tokenism plain and simple. Ask the brothers or the sisterhood.
The lack of talent in the current UKIP leadership is staggering.
Look at the elderly, self satisfied Derek Clark, UKIP MEP for the East Midlands but seldom seen there. Under him UKIP in the East Midlands has gone from the strongest region in the country in the heyday of RKS to one of closed and zombie branches with a few deeply unhappy remaining members.
Its a microcosm of what is happening to UKIP over the whole UK. Godfrey Bloom UKIP MEP for Yorkshire is an embarrassment with his crass public behaviour.
Bannerman, Dartmouth and Farage are ex-Tories whose political ambitions were judged by the Tory party to be far in excess of their limited talents and deemed not to be worthy of a safe Tory parliamentary seat. Given the low standard of the average Tory MP that is a pretty damning verdict.
Honest and integrity can make up for lack of ability but even in that UKIP is lacking.
When was Andreasen last seen in South East region she was elected to represent?
Why does Trevor Colman sit in Brussels with Farage’s nasty neo-Nazi, mid-European associates.
How many relatives of UKIP members died at the hands of the Nazis in the Second World War?
Do the ordinary UKIP members know their cult leader associates with neo-Nazi parties in Brussels? I think not.
Nicky Sinclaire has shown how effective honesty, integrity and consistency can be in opposing the EU. Not surprising then she was kicked out of UKIP.
Why is Malcolm Pearson, Farage’s puppet leader of UKIP, a man who at the last General Election campaigned for the Tories, still in the UKIP ruling group?
Could this happen in any other party? I don’t think so.
Then we have ex-chairman Nuttall MEP who counts success as defeating the BNP for 4th place in elections. UKIP is supposed to be about getting us out of the EU and the best way to handle the BNP is to ignore them! Comrade Nuttall would do better to address the needs of the jobless of Merseyside and try and recruit them for UKIP.
There is also UKIP’s top management, Crowther and Duffy.
No significant management track record and no organisational ability seems to sum them up.
The current NEC is full of wannabe MEPs or more correctly wannabe on the gravy train who are therefore beholden to Farage for preferment.
There are many able and talented people who want us out of the EU but how many will want to join a cult party which measures its success by the leaders appearances and applause on Question Time.
Its only MPs in Westminster that can get us out of the EU. This needs organisation and hard work in local elections addressing the issues of jobs, schools and health that impinge on peoples lives and earns their trust to vote for UKIP when it matters.
It needs a leader who attracts people in, not one who kicks people out.
Until Farage and his clique go this will not change. UKIP numbers will continue to decline, the sycophants will squabble about getting onto the EU gravy train, the BBC will continue to massage Farage’s vanity with QT invites etc and UKIP will continue to slide into the garbage can of history.
I pray I will someday see our country free from the EU but clearly Farage’s UKIP will play no part in our freedom struggle.
Jane COLLINS to stand for UKIP in BARNSLEY – BUT….!
Based Upon UKIP Track Record with the present corrupt ineptitude of the clowns forming the leadership she will need exceptional luck!
.
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,
I guess for all the bluster and having had 13 unlucky years of the previous government with the catastrophic economic illiteracy and now The Boy King with his risible coallescence of the failed – failed to be elected as a government – now slashing the economy to pay of Labour’s bills and so incompetent they seem unable to get anything across to the electorate.
One would have thought there could be absolutely no better time for UKIP but after the farce of Oldham with UKIP’s high profile MEP candidate merely setting out to waste £50K+ just to beat the BNP by a whisker.
We now see UKIP in a local election slide relative to the election in June 2009.
(June 2009 – C 3107, Ukip 1573, Lib Dem 872, Lab 446, Ind 442, Shepway Ind 243).
C hold. Swing 1.9% C to Lab.
Further data CLICK HERE
Jane Collins may do a little better but will she increase UKIP’s 14 elected councillors – I doubt it based on UKIP’s uninspired results to date.
That said – Good luck Jane but to achieve ANYTHING you will have to distance yourself from the corrupt bufoons that are the present leadership team.
Friday 11th February 2011
A MINER’S daughter is hoping to make ‘a big impact’ in Barnsley as the candidate for UKIP in the Barnsley by-election.
 Jane Collins has been selected as the UK Independence Party’s candidate and she told the Chronicle she is standing because has a strong love for town and wants a chance to be the voice for people who live here. ‘Born and bred’ in Yorkshire, Jane was raised in Pontefract, her dad was a miner and she considers herself a ‘grassroots’ politician – not a career-climbing one.
“I think we will do very well,” she said. “The people of Barnsley have had enough and are sick of the present coalition.”If people here are very kind and give me their vote the one thing I am going to do is be a voice for Barnsley and speak for the people.”I want to ask them where their money has gone. We’ve got old age pensioners who are trying to survive on very little with more cuts on the way, yet there are chief executives of councils living on £200,000 plus but they do not seem to be having any cuts.”
Showing his support, Godfrey Bloom, MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, said Jane would make a great impact in Barnsley.”I think she has a good strong chance to make a great impact,” he said. “The town needs a change and it has come from years and years of contempt from what ordinary people think.  “I strongly believe we can change this.”

The Structure To Betray UKIP & The Conference VOTE 2010!!

~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,
when Nigel Farage was overwhellmingly defeated in the debate in favour of selling out to The EU and becoming effectively a Pan EU Political Party cypher you will recall he was overheard in anger hissing at Trevor Coleman (whether expediently denied at this late date for gain or not):
‘You just cost me a Million a year’.
We all knew this would be back to haunt the party as The EU has said only those who play by their rules and pander to their corruption will be recognised in their pretend parliament.
UKIP has NEVER landed a serious blow on the EU’s vice, corruption and malevollence in 17 years whether with blow up bull dozers, dressed as chickens, childish rants in the parliament for sound bites that do more harm than good in the long run.
But here we have the truth – the new puppet is promoting the issue for Nigel Farage to make an extra ‘Million a Year’ and for UKIP to give greater credibility to The EU – I guess the new puppet exp[ects to either take over Clarke’s position or Blooms before the next election to get his feet under the table so as to be top of one of the lists in the UKIP fix for MEPs – they can’t even practice democracy within their own elections and debates why would anyone want them as a government under this corrupt structure?
Following the debate and motion at the Party Conference in September it was agreed that no decision would be made on the issue of entry into a Pan-European Party without a full ballot of the UKIP membership.
At the meeting on February 7th The NEC agreed the program below in principle and it is now under way. The timetable for the consultation with the members being determined by the need to make a decision before the deadline in November 2011 for going into such a party, or not, in 2012.
March
Independence News published with opening 2,000 word statements and notification of the program for consultation with members
(i.e. intention to hold regional meetings and request for potential speakers to contact appropriate coordinator;
explanation that postal ballot of all members will be concluded in September immediately after the Annual Conference;
notification that the P-EP will be subject to a debate at main conference.
March/April
2,000 word statements and initial videos go online;
request for member’s letters and a facility to ask questions provided on line. (Letters restricted to 200 words and noted that they must not be libellous or contain inappropriate language or personal attacks).
May
Dates, venues and times for regional debates published in Independence Magazine. Notification of telephone phone-in also given.
Yes and No camps given on-line opportunity to respond to the top 3 questions asked on line or by letter since March.
A second short video could be added to website.
July/August
Regional debates with 30 second vox pop video clips (equal number from each side) posted onto the website. Each side to be allowed to hand out literature. Max 2 sides A4.
August
Pre-conference Independence Magazine, each side to be allowed one page summing up. Ballot papers sent out.
September
Main Conference Debate
Ballots to be returned by end of Month.
October
Results Announced.
Venues/dates for these debates will be arranged and funded by individual regions. This was put to the Regional Chairman’s’ meeting on Tuesday and they were asked to confirm which regions would be holding an event as soon as possible.
Dates and Venues need not be confirmed at this point. The number/locations of meetings for the Leadership Hustings would be the agreed starting point.
As the P-EP debate Umpire appointed by the NEC I agreed to chair the meetings which would have two representatives from each side on the platform. An opening statement from each side (10 minutes Max) followed by open floor for an hour then closing statements of 10 minutes from each side would give about a 90 minute program! There would NOT be a vote at these meetings as people may then expect that to have some weight at the final decision.
Trevor Colman MEP has agreed to coordinate the No campaign and I am awaiting a decision on who will fulfil this role for the Yes side. These two individuals will coordinate the speakers for their sides. The March Independence Magazine will include the fact that these debates are going to be held; a description of their format and an appeal for people who may wish to be on the platform representing the two camps to contact the appropriate coordinator.
Please note this is the outline program in principle. More details, like the actual ballot question, the mechanism for distributing ballot papers and how the count will be conducted, will be decided as the program develops. I am taking as my brief that when the ballot is held every member will be in a position to make an informed yes or no decision. The next stage is to arrange a meeting with the two coordinators to agree ground rules.
If you wish to contact me on this matter, please don’t hesitate to email me at paneuro@ukip.org.
10-Feb-2011 – Nikki SINCLAIRE MEP‘s PETITION for A REFERENDUM – hits Westminster
Battle Bus hits Westminster, tomorrow and Friday
PRESS RELEASE:
.
MEP BRINGS EU PETITION BATTLE BUS TO
HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT
West Midlands’ MEP, Nikki Sinclaire, is bringing her ‘Have Your Say’ Battle Bus to the Houses of Parliament on 10th and 11th February.
Since September of last year, the Battle Bus has visited over 30 towns and cities across the country. Ms Sinclaire’s aim is to get 100K signatures for her Petition for a EU referendum .
She wants to give British people the chance to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to being part of the European Union
Anyone under the age of 54 has never had the chance to vote on this issue which Nikki Sinclaire believes is wrong. The last time the UK held a referendum on the Common Market, at it was then known, was in 1975 – and even this was retrospective and based on lies admitted years later.
The aim of bringing the Battle Bus to Westminster is to get MPs from all parties to sign The Petition and encourage them to get their constituents to back The Referendum too.
It will be a great time to highlight The EU control over Britain as MPs will be voting on The EU aspect of Human Rights that will force Britain to permit Criminals in Prison to Vote in elections! Which according to all the polls is against the wishes of The Peoples of Britain.
Despite the fact that, if successful, the campaign outcome could put her out of a job, Nikki thinks people have the right to decide.
Commenting on the campaign, she said:
“This is an issue that must be resolved for over 20 years the debate has raged.
In that time opinion polls have shown that more and more people are opposed to Britain’s membership of the EU.
We desperately need a national debate on the pros and cons of our membership of the European Union. At the moment we have one foot in and one foot out.
This is detrimental to Britain’s interests.
I call on a binding referendum and the courage of our political leaders to abide by it.
It is called democracy and that is why I am taking my battle bus to the mother of parliaments in Westminster ”
Nikki Sinclaire MEP and her Battle Bus team
will be located in Old Palace Yard
Westminster (Opposite Palace of Westminster),
SW1P 3JY
from 9am to 5pm each day.
Hi,
it does seem like a busy week!
Tunisia flight from Brussels on Thursday – a series of meetings packed into 12 hour days and back to Brussels on Sunday evening via Geneva.
Monday in Brussels with Constituency work & then EU meetings and a Tunisia debrief in the evening!
Meet with one of the main high distribution Sunday papers Tuesday. Meetings in the EU and fly back to the Constituency office in the West Midlands for a staff briefing.
Home – fresh clothes catch up on correspondence and clearly post to blog.
Wednesday morning fly back to Brussels for more meetings and to finalise publication of the Tunisia report in a Brussels magazine. Then EUrostar to London to meet up with staff for a final briefing for Thursday and stay overnight with staff for an early start in Parliament Square.
But here is the outline Report on Tunisia from Sinclaire’s blog:
North Africa‘s First Revolution Very Fragile
Nikki Sinclaire MEP reports back on her visit to Tunisia.
Three weeks after the Tunisian people ousted President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, I was delighted to attend talks in Tunis with the new interim government as part of an ad hoc parliamentary delegation.
Nikki SINCLAIRE MEP & PM, Mohamed Ghannouchi of TUNISIA
The delegation met with Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi, the Foreign Minister, Ahmed Ounais, the Defence Minister, Abdelkrim Zbidi, and the Minister of Justice, Lazhar Karoui Chebbi. Unfortunately a meeting that had been scheduled with the Minister of the Interior could not take place. We were also able to meet with the leaders of the major political forces. We were very pleased to note the decisions taken on a general amnesty, legalisation of political parties and NGOs, accession to the Statute of the International Criminal Court, and to the UN Convention against Torture.
We also held meetings with representatives of civil society organisations, trade unions and professional associations. The importance of a strong civil society is generally considered a vital prerequisite in developing and maintaining a strong and healthy democracy.
Just as vital, is a free and independent media. After 23 years of authoritarian rule journalists in Tunisia are savouring their freedom, with many senior editors being pressured to resign in order to make way for the new order.
Our task was to ascertain how we could aid and show our support for the democratic process and to the 10 million people of Tunisia.
This revolution is the people’s revolution, and emanated from the utter despair that led a man, Mohamed Bouazizi on December 17th to burn himself to death. He wasn’t a terrorist; he did not want to harm anyone else, it seems that he felt that life without the oxygen of democracy was suffocating his core being.
Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, President of Tunisia ...Image via Wikipedia
President Ben Ali
Events culminated on January 14th in mass protests that led President Ben Ali to flee the country and to seek refuge in Saudi Arabia after 23 years of dictatorship.
It has been dubbed the Jasmine Revolution, in Persian ´yasmin´ means ‘gift of God’, but this revolution was a mortal one, a secular revolution borne of frustration.
During our visit, other than the occasional sighting of Army trucks, barbed wire and the curfew there was actually little evidence of revolution, and the infrastructure, electricity, water, food, petrol was all functioning. The delegation encountered some demonstrations outside government offices by people who were unhappy at the speed of new legislation on for example a General Amnesty to political prisoners.
The feeling amongst Civil Society leaders is that people were concerned about the sustainability of the revolution. They felt that although the head of the old regime was removed its body is still very much in place.
The Constitution the former dictator put in place in 1987 is still being adhered to and has allowed most of the old government to stay in place including the Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi. He explained his position, telling us that it would be wrong for him to desert a sinking ship. He paid tribute to the country’s youth, 35% of whom hold university degrees, extolling their patriotism and their confidence which he said would be needed in the immense task ahead.
Nikki SINCLAIRE & Lyadh Ben Achour Ch. TUNISIA Political Reform Commission
Because of the revolution, Tunisia’s international credit rating has been downgraded; the tourism industry that accounts for 17% of foreign currency and 40% of GDP has been devastated. The Minister of Defence, Abdelkarim Zbidi went to great pains to assure us that the situation was safe for tourists.
The Prime Minister told me that EU aid given to the old regime had been used on economic reforms but evidently the people of Tunisia did not see or feel the benefit. I am calling for an investigation into where this aid went, and how it was used.
Strikes are becoming a problem, as the people tired of being exploited on low wages are keen to exercise their new found freedoms. But with any freedoms comes responsibility, economic growth must be taken one step at a time and increasing labour costs are a threat to exports and to Tunisia’s vital service industry.
The Security situation in Tunisia is not critical but it remains uncertain. The Military played a pivotal role in the revolution and retains the trust of the people. I am minded of John F. Kennedy’s quote ´Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.´
The Minister of Defence, Mr Zbidi, who wants to resign his role as soon as possible, is keen to make sure the revolution is not stolen or abused during this `fragile and precarious period.´ He was critical of France as were others we met, and felt that the initial reaction of Sarkozy’s government was mixed.  He was also critical of the EU saying that it was “offering a little bit to eat with more later”, and referred to the slow and uncertain response by Cathy Ashton.
Mr Zbidi hopes that Tunisia will be given enhanced status with the EU as four of the six conditions were now validated. The death penalty and women’s rights of inheritance remain contentious issues. Addressing women’s rights is very important, as enhancing women’s role in society may be seen as a counter to the ever present threat of fundamentalism: the Islamist Party is amongst the best organised of political actors.
We met with the Minister of Justice, Lazhar Karoui Chebbi who told us that “Justice was the cornerstone of civilisation” He was keen that a new image of the country be transmitted with a strong justice system that guarantees the freedom of the citizens.
Nikki SINCLAIRE at One of the many meetings at The Presidential Palace Tunisia.
There are over 2000 magistrates in Tunisia, 1800 practising generally with 200 working on the Court of accounts or upper courts, and it is admitted that problems of corruption in the judicial system need to be addressed.
There can be no doubt that 23 years of Ben Ali’s regime will have an effect on future elections. However, in my opinion it would be impractical to wait for a new constitution to be formed before having full elections. Tunisia needs a reforming figure with an electoral mandate who can oversee the formation of a new constitution removing the shackles of the old, engaging with all sectors of civil society.
Whilst there is clearly just cause for optimism, we must not forget that more than 200 people have been killed during the disturbances that have accompanied this long-awaited transition towards democracy. It is important that those sacrifices were not in vain.
Tragically, there is still violence on the streets of Tunisia; during our visit four people were killed at a demonstration following an attack on a police station, and whilst travelling home on Sunday we learned of another death in the central town of Kebili.
That is a fact that should weigh heavily on France, Italy and other nations that supported the regime of Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.
Hi,
UKIP does seem to have an uncanny knack of attracting some vile people – not content with specimens like, Tom Wise MEP, Douglas Denny, Mick McGough, Mark Croucher, Annabelle Fuller, Andrew Smith, Derek Clarke MEP, David Bannerman MEP, Stuart Agnew MEP, Godfrey Bloom MEP, Marta Andreasen MEP – all of whom have proved to be liars, cheats and/or corrupt, with only 14 UKIP elected councillors and only 2 remaining MEPs who have not sold out to The EU and racism, anti Judaism and the gravy train corruption of The vile Pan EU Political EFD Group of EUro Trash – Even in Ireland UKIP has problems!
UKIP man supports Michaela rant girl
Sunday, 30 January 2011
Former newspaper photographer Susanne Morrison has been defended by a local politican after posting vile messages on Facebook about the murder of Michaela McAreavey.
UKIP Newry and Mourne councillor Henry Reilly says Morrison’s now infamous rants about Michaela’s murder were insensitive and shocked him when he first read about them — but he believes she’s been harshly treated for her mistake.
Last week Sunday Life revealed how Ms Morrison, from Rathfriland, posted disgusting messages saying the honeymoon murder — which had broadly united Northern Ireland in grief and sympathy for her husband and family — was a case of “karma”.
& The Not Very Funny Irish Comedian is backing The Not Very Honest Farage Party!
.
~~~~~~~~~~#########~~~~~~~~~~

Hi,

It seems that whilst Nigel Farage is in Finland campaigning for The Pan EU Political EFD Group and one of its least mentally sound members in a Referendum which Nigel Farage is on record as considering a complete waste of time – except we note when he can personally make money out of it (how much are The EFD paying him? It makes you wonder!).

I guess Farage has to go on a few jollies to justify all that extra cash he seems to be pocketing through the 4000 account and the like, which is for his MEPs but seems few get to see it!

Now I note that Frank Carsons is seemingly back on board – One bad Joke deserves another?

Comedian Frank Carson backing UK Independence Party

By Liam Clarke
Tuesday, 8 February 2011
Frank Carson

Frank Carson
Northern Ireland comic Frank Carson has pledged to fund Ukip ‘handsomely’
He’s been a legend on the comedy circuit for decades, best known for his stand-up routine of rapid-fire gags and corny catchphrases.
But now Belfast’s Frank Carson is set to turn his attentions to altogether more serious matters, pledging his support for the hardline eurosceptic United Kingdom Independence Party (Ukip) as they try to make a breakthrough in the notoriously closed shop of Northern Ireland politics.

The party is planning to field candidates in May’s council and Assembly elections.
Ukip’s leader Nigel Farage will be travelling to the province next week to open a new headquarters in Bangor and introduce several candidates.
He also claims that he will unveil a “high-profile defector” from another party.
The party’s policy in Northern Ireland includes reducing the number of MLAs at Stormont.
Speaking from his home in Blackpool, Mr Carson said he intends “knocking a few doors” for the party which he sees as providing an alternative to sectarian politics.
“People in Northern Ireland vote for their church, they don’t vote with their heads, it is ridiculous,” he said.
“I will be making a financial contribution. That is what I think they need most from me, so I will fund them handsomely.”
The entertainer has been a generous benefactor to many causes including the integrated education movement, to which he and his son Tony gave £150,000, and a hospice in Jarrow which is named after him.
A papal Knight of St Gregory in recognition of his support for Catholic church causes, he believes religion should be kept out of politics and is proud of his former membership of the Parachute Regiment. He jokes that he would support “an Orangeman for Pope”.
It is the first time the comedian has given his support to a political movement in Northern Ireland since the days of Gerry Fitt, the veteran Labour and nationalist politician who held a seat in the Lords until his death in 2005.
He described Fitt as a personal friend from the same dockland area of Belfast he grew up in.

“I’d like to cut the number of MLAs” he went on. “America has only 100 Senators for 309 million people but Stormont has 108 members for 1.7 million.”
He also believes £70m could be saved by leaving the EU and would be better spent on providing students with grants.
Ukip wants to shut the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies and send the members to Westminster where they would spend one week a month on Scottish or Welsh affairs.
Their manifesto proposes scrapping the Barnett formula which funds the other regional assemblies on the grounds that it “disadvantages English residents”.
Mr Farage added, however, that he would adopt a more cautious approach to Stormont because of the Belfast Agreement.

“We will spell out how this can happen next week but ultimately our view is that in all parts of the UK we have too many layers and too many politicians,” he said.
