UKIP hypocrites have tried to block a comedy act mocking the party – despite whingeing that political correctness could “kill all humour” in Britain.

UKIP’s deputy leader Paul Nuttall has written to the Arts Council and tour venues have been bombarded with complaints about Jonny and the Baptists, who are touring Britain with their “Stop UKIP Tour”.

Just days ago, the Sunday Mirror revealed how a comic told a string of jokes about foreigners at a UKIP fundraiser .

Party leader Nigel Farage hit back: “”We are heading down a road here where we would kill all humour in this country if we tear things to pieces.

“Enough is enough, let people tell their jokes.”

But Mr Nuttall fumed about Jonny and the Baptists: “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and UKIP is very much the party of free speech but I think it is wrong that taxpayers money is being used to back this production.

“This blatantly party political rubbish is being staged to coincide with the run-up to the Euro elections in May and I am appalled that one of the venues in the much lauded Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.”

The group says it gets no taxpayer cash.

The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, said it had complaints from “loyal customers” who’d never visited.
